Biggie’s Mom Has Lil’ Kim Removed From Monica Single

Read more:

Newlywed R&B star Monica has found herself in the middle of a family feud. The ATL  singer recently collaborated with Rick Ross, Missy Elliott and Lil’ Kim for the single, “Anything.” The song samples David Porter’s “I’m Afraid the Masquerade Is Over” used for the Notorious B.I.G’s classic “Who Shot Ya?” and the Queen Bee cribs a few lines from the Biggie hit in her verse. (Listen below) According to Monica’s twitter account Biggie’s mother Voletta Wallace has stopped the single from being released because Lil’ Kim appears on the song. As custodian of Biggie’s estate, Ms. Wallace approves any samples of her late son’s music. “I am just finding out what has happened to my single and myself & Missy are beyond hurt that @LilKim was removed. She’s our friend, a legend,” Monica wrote. “Lil Kim will get the respect she deserves at all cost. The clearance was revoked and I’m fighting to get it reinstated by the Biggie Estate.” Ms. Wallace and Lil’ Kim have been engaged in a very public feud over the past few years, most recently over Kim’s portrayal in the biopic Notorious . Based on Monica’s tweets, the song would not be cleared unless Lil’ Kim’s vocals were removed. Despite her displeasure, Monica maintained her respect for Ms. Wallace and did not take sides, insisting that she “respects all parties involved” and hopes to have the song reinstated with Lil’ Kim featured. Lil’ Kim has taken the high road thus far simply writing, “I want ya’ll to know that Missy Elliot and Monica Brown have been going hard a s mothaf*cka for this situation. I love them so much! We are planning something even BIGGER for you guys.” WARNING: EXPLICIT CONTENT What do you think? Should Biggie’s mom let this one go or do you think she did the right thing blocking the record? Honor International Kissing Day With the Screen’s Greatest Kiss

Apparently today is International Kissing Day, a global extension of the quasi-holiday founded in the UK before spreading its germy brand to foreign shores. We’re all stuck with it now, but you know what they say: When life throws you lemons, watch Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman in the greatest kiss ever captured for the screen. Or… something.

New Tupac Tracks Dis B.I.G., Diddy, More

Two new posthumous songs take aim at Dr. Dre, Nas, Mobb Deep, De La Soul and others. By Rob Markman Tupac Photo: Chi Modu Tupac Shakur ‘s rigorous recording habits ensured that the late rapper would continue to make a musical impact, even in the afterlife. Since his death in 1996, fans have been treated to albums worth of posthumous ‘Pac records, but the two records that leaked onto the Internet late Tuesday night are sure to cause a stir. A far cry from Shakur’s uplifting tunes like “Changes” and ” ‘Til the End of Time,” the two new tracks, “NY 87” and an alternate version of the little-known “Watch Yo Mouth,” take aim at East Coast rap artists like the Notorious B.I.G., Diddy, Mobb Deep, Nas, De La Soul and former ‘Pac ally Dr. Dre. Both songs appear to have been recorded circa 1996, when ‘Pac was in a feud with Diddy’s Bad Boy record label and various other New York artists, including the Notorious B.I.G. It was around this time when Shakur recorded and released his two most famous dis tracks “Hit ‘Em Up” and “Against All Odds” from his The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory album, which he recorded under the alias Makaveli. While “Watch Yo Mouth” is being touted as a new track, the song popped up online over two years ago. The version that was leaked this week has an alternate beat behind it, but the words remain the same. On it, the fiery Shakur begins with a barrage of Dr. Dre insults: “He ain’t made a beat in six years, swear he the sh–/ Won’t get no record sales suckin’ Nas’ di–.” Nasty Nas also gets thrown under the bus as ‘Pac compares the two rappers’ record sales. De La Soul, Wendy Williams, Diddy and the Notorious B.I.G. all get ridiculed. Even in his lyrical tirade, the rapper attempts to downplay the much-hyped East Coast/ West Coast beef of the mid-1990s by chanting, “For my n—as on the east side” throughout the song. “NY 87,” however, is a different story. Featuring raps by Tha Dogg pound (Daz and Kurupt) and Threat, the bass-heavy dis track starts with a monologue from DJ Quik declaring, “Them n—–s on the East is the enemy.” Though the track is being labeled on the Net as a ‘Pac track, it is Tha Dogg Pound who are prominently featured. Appearing only on the last verse, ‘Pac doesn’t name-check any artists, but he does spit, “Move mother—-ers ’til they feel me/ It’s West Coast n—a, f— New York, now did everybody hear me?” As of now it is unknown who released these tracks and why. The timing comes a little more than one week after Dexter Isaacs spoke to AllHipHop.com about his involvement in the 1994 robbery and non-fatal shooting of Shakur and after the hip-hop community celebrated what would’ve been Tupac’s 40th birthday on June 16. Many have speculated that the feud between Tupac and Biggie is what led to the deaths of both rappers. Those rumors have never been confirmed. What do you think of these two posthumous Tupac songs? Derek Luke Talks About His Film Career And Crossing Over To TV [INTERVIEW]

Link:

By Makula dunbar Laid back, witty and direct, Derek Luke is as composed off-camera as he is on. Still early in his career, Luke has managed to snag top roles and appear in some of the most memorable films and shows of the previous decade. Antwone Fisher, Glory Road and Notorious are only a few of his many acting conquests. Now, in a pursuit to continue living outside of the movie box, Luke is furthering his television career via season three of TNT’s medical drama ‘HawthoRNe,’ premiering June 14. Already an actor who has broken genre barriers of TV, film and beyond, Luke shares his recent experiences, short-term goals and hopes for the future. You were previously involved in another medical show, ‘Trauma’. Was ‘HawthoRNe’ something you always wanted to do or did it just happen? In film, I hadn’t yet had a lot of offers to play a doctor, so it’s actually really cool getting this chance. As I continued doing film, some characters like playing a doctor became consistent in TV. I believe a medical show is such a good structure for television. What are you anticipating most regarding season three of ‘HawthoRNe’? I’m anticipating the quote from TNT (laughs). No, I’m anticipating the new characters, faces and a great storyline. The storyline as far as my character touches on being on a professional, a father and a husband at the same time. I’m looking forward to addressing topics like that and just having fans and audiences respond to situations that are perhaps true to them. You play a surgeon on the show. What was the most difficult thing about preparing for your role? One of the most difficult things about ‘HawthoRNe’ in general was when I signed up the show was already in the process of filming. As soon as I said yes, I had less than a week to actually prepare. It was exciting and organic because I had to prepare as I went. It was just fun working on the human body. We had scenes where we did different medical procedures and I learned so much about the human body and the sophistication of it. It’s really like a computer than man has been unable to duplicate. Jay-Z And Gwyneth Paltrow Swap Interviews

Pair posts Q&As with one another on their respective websites. By Alvin Blanco Jay-Z and Gwyneth Paltrow Photo: Dave M. Benett/ Getty Images Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Grammy-winning rapper Jay-Z come from different worlds, but that didn’t stop them from the becoming BFFs. The pair have performed together — as have Jay-Z and Gwyneth’s husband, Chris Martin — in the past. And on Tuesday (April 12), the two buddies traded questions with one another on their respective websites. Hova interviewed Paltrow on his recently debuted lifestyle site Life + Times ( LifeandTimes.com ), and Paltrow interviewed Hova for the GOOP.com online newsletter she launched in 2008. The Q&A on Jay-Z’s site is titled “Straight Outta Compton?” It turns out the actress with the singing chops got turned on to N.W.A. in Los Angeles while she was still in high school. “I first was exposed to hip-hop when I was about 16 (1988) by some boys who went to college,” Paltrow said. “The Beastie Boys were sort of the way in for us preppie kids. We were into Public Enemy, Run-DMC and LL Cool J. But then I went to L.A. the summer between my junior and senior years of high school and I discovered N.W.A., which became my obsession. I was fascinated by lyrics as rhythm and how Dre had a such different cadence and perspective from say, Eazy-E, who I thought was one of the most ironic and brilliant voices hip-hop has ever had.” While Jay-Z’s line of questions aimed to discover the root of Paltrow’s musical tastes and affection for hip-hop music (she prefers the Notorious B.I.G. over Tupac Shakur), the actress’ inquiries for the rapper focused on his new website and his personal inspirations (Jean-Michel Basquiat, Muhammad Ali and Mario Batali among them). But any sense of journalistic impartiality went out the window with her last question: “You are the coolest man on Earth, how the f did you get like that?” To this Hov answered, “I’m around great women, starting with my mom. Women keep men cool. The hotter the chick, the cooler the guy … that sounds like a really bad rap line!” Related Artists Jay-Z

Jimmy Fallon’s “Dance Avenue” Spoofs “Soul Train” [VIDEO]

Here is the original post:

On last night’s episode of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon , Jimmy and the gang poked fun at Soul Train by showing a pre-taped sketch called “Dance Avenue” that spoofed the legendary Soul Train Line. Jimmy and members of Late Night ‘s house band, The Roots , participated in the sketch by donning Soul Train inspired costumes and dancing down the line.  The Roots’ ?uestlove , an admitted Soul Train geek, certainly had his hand in making this spoof as authentic as possible.  Keep an eye out for such Soul Train staples like a dancing Asian lady, and a random dancer wearing an E.T. costume.  Honorable mention definitely goes to The Roots’ Black Thought in his captain’s outfit. We also gotta give props for the song the band recorded specifically for the show, “Doing Lines,” an obvious double entendre referencing the Soul Train line and the ever-present 80′s drug of choice, cocaine.
