Drake ‘OK’ With Being Dropped From Kanye West’s ‘All Of The Lights’

‘Kanye’s creative process is ever-changing,’ Drizzy tells Shade 45. By Alvin Blanco Drake Photo: MTV News Even if Drake and Kanye West aren’t best friends, Drizzy still counts the Chicago rapper/producer as one of his musical idols. Drake dropped into Shade 45’s morning show Thursday (December 9) and chatted it up with host Elliott Wilson on a variety of topics, including being removed from the final version of Yeezy’s “All of the Lights.” An early version of the song, whose crowded guest list includes Elton John, La Roux’s Elly Jackson, Charlie Wilson and Ryan Leslie, had previously leaked that included Drake, but the Toronto rapper is nowhere to be found on the version that appears on West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. “Kanye’s creative process is ever-changing,” Drake said, adding that he doesn’t know why he was removed. “We make music differently. I make what comes to me and I hate changing it, whereas ‘Ye will change something 30 or 40 times to get it perfect. To each their own, and the change was to put all those people on it, and I wasn’t one of them. That’s completely OK.” Since Drake came to national prominence with the release of his So Far Gone mixtape, the MC has been compared to West — not just for his introspective lyrics, but for his overall sound as well. Back in August, Drake’s main producer, Noah “40” Shebib , relayed a story about Kanye West cursing him out for using his production style. Add to that mix the fact that Drake and Kanye have appeared on relatively few songs together — including “Forever,” with Lil Wayne and Eminem — and conspiracy theorists feel there must be tension between the two. “I can never sit here and tell you that’s not one of my idols, that’s not one of my favorite rappers,” Drake said of Kanye during the Shade 45 interview. “Whatever energy I’ve ever felt is irrelevant. When you ask me, ‘What do I think of Kanye West,’ I’mma always have something positive to say.” The host then interjected by asking, “But sometimes the energy is not always where you want it to be?” “I feel like we can co-exist,” Drake answered. “I feel like hip-hop is broad enough that we can both exist and give great music without feeling like it’s one or the other. I might be the only one that feels that way, though.” Drake stressed his reverence for Kanye West. At only 24 years old, the Canadian MC said he missed the Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac era, and Yeezy is a personal favorite artist whose career he can personally trace since its inception. B.o.B, Paramore And Bruno Mars’ VMA Medley: Making The Show

MTV News was in the rehearsal for the collaboration — and for B.o.B and Hayley Williams’ first meeting. By Jayson Rodriguez Hayley Williams of Paramore and B.o.B perform onstage during the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards Photo: Jeff Kravitz/Getty Images LOS ANGELES — B.o.B , Bruno Mars, and Paramore could teach a class in chemistry. The three acts blended together like they were one touring group during their medley performance of “Nothin’ on You,” “Airplanes” and “The Only Exception” at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night. It was the first time that the artists all came together in one setting, but during their rehearsal over the weekend , B.o.B , Mars, and Paramore singer Hayley Williams were playful and relaxed, which certainly helped set the tone for the big night. B.o.B and Mars’ sweet “Nothin’ on You” served as a dramatic introduction to Sunday’s performance, but when the pair rehearsed the number the day before, they were having plenty of fun, as they took turns trying to upstage each other with covers of songs by Drake and the Notorious B.I.G. Between takes, they also dished out a Jeffrey Osborne-like rendition of “Nothin’.” Mars began singing the tune in a low register, and B.o.B followed suit before the duo broke out laughing. The good vibes bled into the next portion as well. “Where are you guys?” Williams could be heard asking over her microphone. Although she was onstage with Mars and B.o.B, they were in the foreground and her view of them was obstructed by a pillar. Upon hearing her, B.o.B proceeded to make a beeline over to the Paramore frontwoman. Williams and B.o.B scored a top-five hit with “Airplanes,” and the track’s video earned multiple VMA nods, but the two had never physically worked with each other until the rehearsal . “We finally met for the first time,” B.o.B told MTV News on Saturday, turning to the camera excitedly, after hugging Williams. “I hope I don’t mess up.” “I’m gonna trip and fall,” Williams responded about their big performance. “Catch me, please!” Nobody fell, obviously, and the trio lifted one another up during the soaring medley, which was one of the night’s highlights. The Moonmen have all been handed out and the stars have gone home, but there’s plenty of 2010 MTV Video Music Awards news, interviews, behind-the-scenes scoop, party reports and more still to come, so keep it locked on MTVNews.com. VMA White Carpet Covered In Plastic Until Stars Arrive

Staging supervisor Aaron Chawla has steam cleaners, vacuums in place in case of unexpected stains. By Kara Warner VMA white carpet Photo: Jonathan Goldner / MTV News With the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards mere hours away, everyone here at MTV is working overtime in preparation to make this year’s show the best and brightest ever. Earlier this week, the white carpet crew (a team of about 55) started assembling the soon-to-be star-studded area, built to capture this year’s theme, “Hollywood Mansion.” Crew members pulled 16-hour shifts during the five days for the five days leading up to the show. On Saturday, nearly 600 feet of white carpet were rolled out and promptly covered in plastic in order to prevent any unwanted sullying. Staging supervisor Aaron Chawla said he won’t be removing it until the last possible minute before the VMA Pre-Show begins. In the event of any unforeseen spills or stains, Chawla assured us his team has plenty of tools in place for quick fixes, including vacuum cleaners, Resolve, steam cleaners and, if all else fails, props that can be creatively placed over any stubborn markings. The worst possible substance to come in contact with the white carpet? Chewing gum. Adam Stewart, production manager for staging and light, agreed that gum is a challenge; he also mentioned colored liquids as potential hazards. He hopes that if celebs bring liquid refreshment along with them for their walk (

B.o.B Predicts VMAs Will Be ‘One Hell Of A Show’

‘I really want to see what everyone has up their sleeve as far as performances go,’ MC says. By Jayson Rodriguez B.o.B Photo: MTV News B.o.B is not only taking the stage to perform during the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards , but the Atlanta rapper is up for a number of awards himself, from Best Male Video to Best Hip-Hop Video. So while he sits in the house at the Nokia Theatre, he’ll have a front-row seat to take in the show. Although Florence and the Machine are favorites of the “Nothin’ on You” star, he told MTV News he’s looking forward to all of the performances. From Drake to Usher to Justin Bieber, B.o.B said he thinks everyone is going to deliver. “I really want to see what everyone has up their sleeve as far as performances go,” he explained. ” ‘Cause for me, I take performing very seriously. So I can bet everyone else is like that. So it’s gonna be one hell of a show.” B.o.B has had a good year, as the upstart MC scored a #1 debut album and three top 10 hits, “Nothin’ on You,” “Airplanes” and “Magic.” The lanky lyricist will take the stage to perform “Nothin’ on You” with Bruno Mars and then “Airplanes” with Paramore’s Hayley Williams. The Saturday rehearsal with B.o.B, Bruno Mars and Williams was relaxed and filled with plenty of impromptu moments. Bruno Mars and B.o.B each busted out into covers, of Drake’s “Find Your Love” and the Notorious B.I.G.’s “Juicy,” respectively. And B.o.B and Williams, who had recorded “Airplanes” separately and later shot their parts for the video at different times, met for the first time . Tune in tonight for the 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards, broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles! The party starts with MTV News’ VMA Pre-Show at 8 p.m., followed by the main event at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
