Race Matters: Georgia Residents Outraged After Receiving Invitations Join The Hatin Azz “White-Hooded Clan”

Georgia Residents Find Unsolicited Invitations To Join Hate Group On Their Lawns Local residents in Newton County, Georgia are in an uproar after unknown solicitors littered several Newton County front yards with fliers inviting community members to join a local hate group. Newton Citizen South Newton County residents notified the Newton County Sheriff’s Office Monday morning that unwelcome fliers were being distributed in their neighborhood. NCSO Public Information Officer Deputy Courtney Morrison said a homeowner living near County Line Road called around 10 a.m. to report that sometime between 6 p.m. Sunday night and 9 a.m. Monday, a flier had been left at the entrance of her driveway that contained an invitation to join the “clan.” The flier was enclosed in a plastic bag with a rock inside to weigh it down. It had a drawing of a robed klansman standing in front of a tree with writing that said, “Join the K*K — Loyal White Knights…” The Newton County Sheriff’s Office is currently monitoring the situation … the fliers are being reviewed to make sure they don’t contain any inappropriate information or threats,” Morrison said. “As far as we know, there are no active triple K chapters in Newton County and these fliers seem to be based out of North Carolina.” #Morrison said the Sheriff’s Office had recovered three other versions of the flier — one that reads, “Help Save Our Race” and shows a clansman in front of a Confederate flag; one with a clansman on a horse with a torch; and another one with a clansman on a horse holding up a cross that reads, “White Pride = White Power.” All have the same contact number and website reference. SMH. These fools need to either have a seat or get a hobby that doesn’t involve being a racist idiot.

A “Lil Positivity”: Florida Airport Worker Returns Lost iPad And $13,000 And Then Gives Away Reward Money… Would You??

Do the right thing! Florida Airport Worker Returns Money And iPad A cleaning service worker who returned an iPad containing $13,000 in cash he found at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport was honored for his honesty at an award ceremony Wednesday morning. Via NBC Miami reports: Patrick Morgan was working an early shift at the airport last month when he came across the iPad that had been left behind at a bar in one of the terminals. When he opened the case, he spotted the big wad of cash. “I opened it first and I see the money and I closed it back,” he said. Morgan, of Patrick’s Cleaning Service which works for Sunshine Cleaning Systems Inc., immediately turned in the iPad and cash to the airport communications center and Broward Sheriff’s Office substation. Minutes later, the owner, who had returned from a trip to Las Vegas, came back to the bar and Morgan told him where he could find the money and iPad. The iPad owner gave Morgan a $60 reward, which Morgan passed on to a homeless woman. At Wednesday’s ceremony, the Broward County Aviation Department honored Morgan for his honesty and hard work, and Sunshine Cleaning awarded him $625, which is equal to one week paid vacation. He says he’ll keep it. What a cheap SOB. $13k in cash and an iPad and he only gives the guy $60. Talk about paying it forward. The world needs more people like Patrick Morgan.

The Lowest-Grossing Film Of 2012 Made Less Than $300. Wait, What?

2012’s lowest-grossing film has been revealed, and people, this one kind of hurts. [ Related: Domestic Box Office Rises In Dollars And Audiences In 2012 ] The Christian Slater horror film Playback gathered an astonishing $264.00 – yes, that’s two hundred and sixty four – in theaters. Well, theater, to be exact; it only showed for one week in a single cinema. The figure gives Playback the honor as 2012’s lowest grossing film of the year. It earned $252.00 on opening night and just 12 dollars more during the following week, after which it was pulled. It has since made its way to VOD via Netflix and Amazon Prime. That has got to hurt, but when your career includes Gleaming the Cube and Hard Rain , at least you’re probably prepared for the emotional toll. Still, it makes me wince, even 20 years later, every time I’m reminded that I once actually liked Christian Slater movies. At least Heathers and True Romance still hold up*! As 2012 comes to a depressingly apocalypse-free conclusion, it’s not surprising that we’re seeing the last, painful lists of ignobility slipping out at the last minute. What better way to prepare ourselves for the new year than by embracing obstacles head on. If yesterday’s news of the most pirated movies proves that a bumper crop (cash-wise) for Hollywood doesn’t mean there still isn’t a problem with pilfered films, today’s offers unexpected confirmation that F. Scott Fitzgerald might have been right about there not being any second acts in American lives. At least for formerly successful actors. So at least we can all take comfort that our English teachers may have been onto something after all. * Well, True Romance, at least.

You Can’t Be Serious: 200 Utah Teachers To Be Given ‘Concealed Weapons Training’ In Wake Of Sandy Hook!?!?

This sounds like a safe idea… According to The Daily Mail , Utah lawmakers aren’t too happy about the planned weapons training convention that’s set for tomorrow: The Utah Shooting Sports Council has said they usually gather around a dozen teachers each year for training to carry concealed weapons but this year demand skyrocketed after the tuition was offered for free. The powerful lobby claims that the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Connecticut has been the catalyst for the massive interest, but Carol Lear, a chief lawyer for the Utah Office of Education said that the move was a ‘terrible idea.’ Arguing that teachers could be overpowered for their guns or misfire causing an accidental shooting, Lear said: ‘It’s a horrible, terrible, no-good, rotten idea.’ More than 200 Utah teachers are expected to pack a convention hall on Thursday for six hours of concealed-weapons training as organizers seek to arm more educators in the aftermath of the school shooting carried out by Adam Lanza in which 27 people, including 20 first-grade children died. The Utah Shooting Sports Council said it normally gathers a dozen teachers every year for instruction that’s required to legally carry a concealed weapon in public places. The state’s leading gun lobby decided to offer teachers the training at no charge to encourage turnout, and it worked. Organizers who initially capped attendance at 200 were exceeding that number by Wednesday and scrambling to accommodate an overflow crowd. ‘Schools are some of the safest places in the world, but I think teachers understand that something has changed – the sanctity of schools has changed,’ Clark Aposhian, one of Utah’s leading gun instructors, said Wednesday. ‘Mass shootings may still be rare, but that doesn’t help you when the monster comes in.’ Gun-rights advocates say teachers can act more quickly than law enforcement in the critical first few minutes to protect children from the kind of shooting that left 20 children and six adults dead December 14th at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. We understand wanting to feel safe but how would you feel if this was your kids school?? Images via tumblr

Ryan Freel Found Dead; Ex-MLB Star Commits Suicide 36

Former Major League Baseball player Ryan Freel was found dead Saturday at the age of 36. He died of a self-inflicted shotgun blast in his Jacksonville home. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was investigating the death as a suicide. The scrappy, versatile Freel played eight seasons in the majors from 2001-09 with Toronto, Cincinnati, Baltimore, the Chicago Cubs and Kansas City. After appearing in nine games with Toronto in 2001, he played for the Reds from 2003-08 before spending 2009 with the Orioles, Cubs and Royals. “The Reds family is deeply saddened to hear of the death of Ryan Freel,” the team said. “His teammates and fans loved him for how hard he played, and he loved giving back to the community. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.” It’s unclear why Freel tragically took his own life. Freel was a career .268 hitter in 594 big league games, stealing 143 bases and splitting time between second, third and all three outfield positions.
