‘It sends Michael off in a good way,’ director Paul Feig reveals to MTV News of bumbling Dunder Mifflin boss. By Kara Warner Steve Carell Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Ever since Steve Carell announced his plans to leave “The Office,” his fans and fellow castmates have been lamenting the impending departure of Michael Scott, the bumbling Scranton, Pennsylvania-based boss Carell has made famous over the course of seven seasons. But no matter how loud the protests or how many tears are shed, the end has come. According to frequent director Paul Feig, Carell and Co. filmed Michael Scott’s last episode of “The Office” last week. “It’s exactly what you would want it to be,” Feig told MTV News at the PaleyFest reunion event for his cult-favorite TV show, “Freaks and Geeks.” “It’s emotional, but it’s funny. It’s just a really nice mix and it sends Michael off in a good way. I’m thrilled with it,” he added. “I think fans of the show will be really happy with it.” Speaking to that emotional aspect, Feig went on to say that there were plenty of tears shed on set. “Half the time we were bawling and half the time we were trying not to laugh and ruin takes,” he admitted, adding that the presence of Will Ferrell helped keep things from getting too weepy. “The hilarity index is up even higher,” he said. And judging from the reports we’ve received from castmembers, Ferrell us up to his old comedic tricks for his four-episode

We’re fast approaching the point of too much Kardashian (quite frankly, I think we may already be past that point). Seacrest and minions need a new formula, because the current one of Kim plus Kourtney and too much of Scott Disick isn’t working. Once upon a time Kris and Co. were a guilty pleasure, and we’d happily wait around for Khloe to tip Kourtney upside down like a teapot.

‘Idol’ puts up biggest non-sports Thursday ratings numbers since 2007. By Gil Kaufman Steven Tyler holds up his swear sign on “American Idol” Photo: FOX Simon who? Perhaps putting to rest any fears that “American Idol” would nosedive without iconic judge Simon Cowell, Thursday night’s first elimination episode of season 10 put up some stellar numbers for the singing competition. On a night when most of the competition on rival networks consisted of reruns (including, count ’em, six episodes in a row of “The Office” on NBC!) after the vaults were emptied last month during sweeps, “Idol” raked in 25 million viewers to win the ratings crown. In fact, the impressive numbers for “Idol” gave Fox the most-watched non-sports Thursday night number of any network over the past four years. The two-hour extravaganza, which not only shaped the top 10 , but also featured six performances by singers vying to score three wild card spots — not to mention the debut of judge Jennifer Lopez’s “On the Floor” music video — was a 29 percent increase of last season’s first elimination night, according to Billboard With an 8.1 rating in the 18 to 49 demo, numbers were also up 13 percent over last Thursday’s “AI” episode. As you might expect, ratings climbed during the pivotal final half-hour of the broadcast, going from 25.96 million between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. to 26.66 million for the final half-hour. The good ratings news bodes well for the start of live competition next week, when new judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez will have to finally show their stuff during two real-time broadcasts a week after charming viewers during the season’s pre-taped episodes. Insiders say film could get nominated in documentary category at next year’s Oscars. By Gil Kaufman Justin Bieber in “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” Photo: Paramount Pictures The kid is hot. First, Justin Bieber became the first person since, well, himself to land two albums in the top five on the Billboard 200, and now his 3-D movie, “Never Say Never,” has vaulted into the #3 position on the list of top-grossing documentaries of all time. According to Box Office Mojo , “Never” has grossed $64,162,036 to date, putting it on track to possibly overtake the #2 doc of all time, “March of the Penguins,” which grossed more than $77 million. It’s unlikely to knock off the top documentary of all time, Michael Moore’s 2004 flick “Fahrenheit 9/11,” which rolled up $119 million, but with the “Never” director’s cut re-release last weekend (which brought in another $9 million), Bieber is positioned to conquer yet another medium. In his run to the top, Bieber has leaped over such lauded and popular docs as “Super Size Me,” Madonna’s “Truth or Dare,” Moore’s “Bowling for Columbine,” former Vice President Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” and the nature flick “Earth.” It also took the crown for the biggest opening weekend of any documentary , with a $29.5 million first weekend, squeezing past the $23 million open of “Fahrenheit.” Hollywood may end up catching Bieber Fever as well, with The Hollywood Reporter asking in a recent article whether “Never” could land the 17-year-old phenom a spot at the Oscars next year. A source told the trade magazine that “Never” had serious buzz at some post-Oscar parties thanks to its healthy grosses, which have impressed some Academy members. “You’d be surprised at the caliber of people who came up to Justin at the Vanity Fair party at the Sunset Tower, most of whom had seen the movie and loved it,” said an unnamed insider. “There was even talk of putting it up for an Oscar next year in the documentary category. People appreciate that it’s not just a kids’ movie.” The article mentioned that Bieber was one of the brightest stars at the Fair party, chatting up Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger and working the room like a pro. ‘Anchorman’ star currently scheduled to appear in only four episodes. By Brian Warmoth Will Ferrell Photo: John Sciulli/ Getty Images Even if Will Ferrell doesn’t join “The Office” as a permanent cast member, his stint as a Dunder Mifflin branch manager already seems to have made an impact on the cast. Rainn Wilson confirmed the nature of Ferrell’s performance in the NBC series, which will soon see its figurehead, Steve Carell, depart, but Wilson also seemed a little star struck. “We’ve been doing a ton with Will Ferrell, and it is so cool,” Wilson told MTV News on Saturday night at the Independent Spirit Awards. “I just keep thinking, ‘I’m acting with Will Ferrell! This is so awesome!’ And he’s the nicest guy: just a sweetheart and so much fun.” Carell will leave a Michael Scott-sized hole when he exits the show at the end of the season, and Ferrell wanted to be a part of his “Anchorman” co-star’s final performances so much that he requested the part himself. His four-episode arc won’t install his character as the new man in charge, but it will showcase an epic fail on Scott’s part as Ferrell’s character asserts himself. “He is the new manager that Michael Scott has brought in to replace him, but we kind of swiftly realize that that’s a terrible idea. Terrible,” Wilson said. For now, exactly what Ferrell has been doing to warrant such reviews and possibly make Michael Scott look like a good management choice by comparison remains largely a mystery. More guest stars are expected to show up as Carell prepares to dedicate more of his life to making films, but it will be hard for anyone to stand toe-to-toe with Ferrell’s comedic talents. Ferrell’s effect on Wilson, meanwhile, should at least be potent enough to carry Wilson’s character (Dwight) well into the post-Scott era, however long that turns out to be. Whether a new actor emerges to take control of the company or one of the show’s other stars rises to the position, having the man who played Ron Burgundy in the same room as Carell for a while seems to be good for morale. Who do you think should play Michael Scott’s replacement? Tell us below!
