According to Popeater.com , Oprah feels a little pressure from her OWN Network and the struggle to secure viewers that she doesn’t want to do anything that might hurt her chances in getting potential viewers. The insider stated: “Unlike in 2008, when a drop in ratings didn’t matter as much for the queen of TV, Oprah is now fighting every day to get people to tune into OWN. Helping a friend keep the most important job in the world is great, but making sure her OWN network thrives is now her priority.” The “Oprah Show” dropped in ratings in 2008 after she announced that she was backing then Illinois senator Barack Obama. These ratings showed that her audience had fallen by about 2 million viewers since 2005. Now with OWN’s ratings not being extremely high, the company reportedly doesn’t want to take any chances in losing any of the viewers they currently have. Sigh. *After announcing her line of nail polish with OPI last year on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” tennis star Serena Williams is reportedly set to debut the collection in time for the French Open in May. The line, called Glam Slam! France collection, is comprised of two shades – Spark de Triomphe in glittery silver and Rally Pretty Pink. Each color comes with a Shatter polish which provides a broken or shattered effect as it dries. “Whether I’m on or off the court, style is important,” said Serena. “In addition to watching the runways for the latest trends, I think it’s important to add my own unique elements. “With the new White and Red Shatter, I can customize my nails for a high-fashion take on the classically elegant silver and sunset shades in the Glam Slam! France collection.” Katy Perry and Justin Bieber have also released nail polish collections with OPI.
Commitment is a word that drives people. It is the moments in which you become the most resolute about a decision or choice. What do your choices or non choices say about you? Many of us struggle with making commitments. Many of us do not honor our commitments. It is when we embrace the strength of our word do we become the person that we are destined to be. There is a wonderful in Matthew 5:37: Simply let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one. How many times have you wished that you could be stronger in w hat you would or world not do. Begin with this prayer: Lord, I give myself to You, whatever the cost may be. Take every aspect of my life and use me for Your Kingdom to glorify Your Name. I’m not here on earth to do my own thing, to seek my own fulfillment or my own glory. I’m not here to indulge my desires, to increase my possessions, to impress people to be popular, to prove I’m somebody important, or to promote myself. I’m not here to even be relevant or successful by human standards. I’m here to please You. To live like this, I yield myself to You, to know You, to love You, to obey You, and to grow in your Holy fear. I desire to become a person who understands and lives in reverent awe of You. I’ll do anything that You want me to do, go anywhere that You want me to go and say anything that You want me to say. Father, there isn’t any gift that You have for me that I don’t want. If You want to use me in a way that I’m not used to, I yield myself to that. Today, I affirm my love for You, my God, and I choose to live and minister in Your way. I trust You, Lord, to do that which I cannot do for myself. Teach me, guide me, and empower me to fear Your name. Today is that chance. You can start right here and now. Try this prayer for 40 days and see what changes in your life. Oprah Winfrey is feeling like she was disrespected by the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin for granting Wendy Williams the first interview since her surgery. Sources say while Oprah, 57, gives Wendy, 46, credits for snagging the much-coveted sit-down with Aretha, she’s still “steaming,” and feels that Wendy’s show is “a long way” from hers, and criticizing it for being “silly and gossipy.” “Oprah is about as angry as can be,” said an insider. “This is the final season of her show, and she’s been pushing to land all the big ‘gets’ out there. Oprah is embarrassed that Aretha – a legend – chose Wendy, who is a relative newcomer in the TV talk show world.” “Oprah was not going to keep the whole interview on the illness, which she knows Aretha is reluctant to fully discuss,” said the source. “She was going to get Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and Berry Gordy, the founder of Motown Records, for a touching tribute. But instead, Aretha chose Wendy – and Oprah is NOT happy!” Aretha underwent surgery in December but has never publicly revealed the nature of her health issues. Oprah Winfrey’s school for disadvantaged girls in South Africa opened in January 2007 and is designed to prepare girls for future leadership in their communities. The school which cost $40 million to open, has been successful in educating young girls and preparing them for their future for the past few years. Unfortunately, it was reported that a former dorm matron at the school, Tiny Virgina Makopo, was accused of abusing students that the school and is set to go on trial this Tuesday for his reported actions. It is reported that Makopo, 28 years old, is going to plead not guilty to the charges of indecent assault, assault and criminal injury. Six teenage girls along with another dorm matron were abused over a period of four months while attending the school by Makopo, according to police. The prosecutor described the girls to be “very scared and emotional”. Oprah Winfrey is a victim of abuse herself, and felt deeply sorry for the situation at hand. She has apologized to the student’s parents and promised an overhaul of the school. The trial should run through August 1, 2011. Sandra Bullock, Jeff Bridges and Oprah Winfrey also will hand out Academy Awards on Sunday. By Aly Semigran Scarlett Johansson Photo: Frazer Harrison/Getty Images With the countdown to the 83rd annual Academy Awards in its final phase (there’s just five days left until the big night), there’s still news coming out about the ceremony: It was announced Tuesday morning (February 22) that actress Scarlett Johansson and funny man Russell Brand will attend the 2011 Oscars as presenters. Johansson, who appeared in last year’s hit “Iron Man 2” and is currently filming Cameron Crowe’s upcoming “We Bought a Zoo,” has recently been the focus of the media attention due to her divorce from actor Ryan Reynolds. Meanwhile, Brand, who wed singer Katy Perry last year and stars in the upcoming “Arthur” reboot with Helen Mirren, tried out his own style of edgy comedy during his hosting stint on the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009 and just this month on “Saturday Night Live.” This will mark the first Oscar appearance for the “Get Him to the Greek” star, who joked on his Twitter page Tuesday, “I am presenting an Oscar. I shall also choose the recipient. At last my work as Aldous Snow will be honoured, for best actor-ing.” Brand and Johansson will join fellow A-list presenters Sandra Bullock (last year’s Best Actress recipient will hand out this year’s Best Actor trophy), Jeff Bridges (2010 Best Actor winner to hand out the Best Actress award), Oprah Winfrey, Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Robert Downey Jr., Hugh Jackman, Reese Witherspoon, Cate Blanchett and Marisa Tomei, as well as two of this year’s Best Actress nominees, Nicole Kidman and Annette Bening. In her quest to close out Season 25 with a bang, Oprah offered Mike Vick the opportunity to solidify his comeback in America’s hearts and minds. And this fool is reneging on his acceptance of the invitation. Of all the moves Michael Vick has made, this is one of the more curious ones. He has bailed on Oprah. The Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback — the NFL’s comeback player of the year — canceled the taping of an interview (subject matter: doing time for his part in an illegal dogfighting ring, his return to the NFL, his work with the Humane Society and his future) — with the queen of gab. “After careful consideration, I will need to postpone the taping of the Oprah Winfrey interview. I admire and respect Oprah and hope to be able to participate in an interview in the future.” There’s a report out of Philly that quotes sources saying the Eagles pressured Vick to cancel. Maybe he decided it was a bad idea to do the interview so close to the Westminster dog show. Maybe it’s connected to getting the Eagles’ franchise tag. In any event, given that her show is going off the air, a rebooking might not be likely. Joe Flint of the Los Angeles Times thinks Vick is making the right move in keeping a low profile. “Going on ‘Oprah Winfrey,’ though, to be given some sort of blessing by the queen of talk is too much too soon,” Flint writes. “Part of what Vick needs to learn and show is humility, and going on a popular TV show to say look at me now is not humble.” We don’t know about that one. Crying on Oprah is NEVER a bad look for a celebrity. Source
