The police had to evacuate the entire place! Via ABC News : The Mall of Louisiana was evacuated Saturday night after a flash mob turned into an ugly brawl. Cellphone video captured the chaos as shoppers jammed escalators and ran for the nearest exits in Baton Rouge, the state capital. Employees at the mall were ordered to abandon their cash registers and evacuate immediately. The fight broke out in the mall food court, where 200 teens had gathered for a flash mob. “We think there was some sort of post on social media about a flash mob for tonight which drew such a large crowd of juveniles,” Casey Rayborn Hicks, a spokeswoman for the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, said. Hicks said deputies are investigating the events that led to the fight. The panic was especially acute, weeks after a gunman opened fire at an Oregon mall, killing three people, including himself, and injuring one. “Saw people running and screaming I turned around a girl told me someone has a gun I started running with them,” shopper Missy Melancon wrote on Facebook. No injuries or weapons were reported, though nerves were rattled. “Never been that scared in my life,” Juston D’Nea Millet wrote on Facebook. “People were running everywhere. It was like a movie, but you were in it.” SMH. We thought the hype around flash mobs had finally worn off. Images via youtube/facebook
Uhmmm… WTF?? Now they’re comparing gun ‘ discrimination ‘ to our struggle? Via The Raw Story : The former president of the National Rifle Association invoked both conspiracy theories and racial discrimination to decry a potential ban on assault weapons on an NRA radio show Friday. “Banning people and things because of the way they look went out a long time ago,” Marion Hammer told host Ginny Simone. “But here they are again. The color of a gun. The way it looks. It’s just bad politics.” According to Media Matters, Hammer’s interview was in response to Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-CA) proposed ban, which is based on a firearm’s capacity, rather than its appearance. However, Simone encouraged Hammer’s inaccurate claim. “They even admit this is about banning the ugliest guns, it’s about cosmetics and it has nothing to do about how a firearm works,” the host said. As Feinstein explained in a press release last month, her proposed ban — a revival of legislation she authored that was in effect from 1994 to 2004 — names specific types of “military-style” weapons, while exempting both legally-bought weapons and weapons specifically used for hunting. Hammer said the previous law “paled in comparison” to Feinstein’s new proposal, a response to last month’s mass school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, in which the gunman used an AR-15 assault rifle, among other weapons. “We’ve tried to tell people that in order to control the masses they have to take your guns,” she insisted. “We saw it in Cuba. I mean we have so many Cuban-Americans who understand. But there are just too many people who don’t believe it can happen here. And I hope they are right, but in order to keep it from happening here it’s going to be a massive, expensive and long fight.” Seriously though?!?! You and your gun(s) need to take a seat. For the love of football , and saving face, PA Governor Tom Corbett has vowed to fight the NCAA’s sanctions against Penn State . According to CNN , he’s blasting the FBI report that was made earlier this year too: Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett announced plans Wednesday to file an anti-trust lawsuit against the NCAA over its sanctions against Penn State University following the Jerry Sandusky child abuse scandal. Last July, the NCAA levied unprecedented sanctions against the university, including a fine of $60 million. It also stripped 14 seasons of football victories from late head coach Joe Paterno. “These sanctions did not punish Sandusky,” or those who allegedly helped cover up his repeated abuse of disadvantaged children, said Corbett at a news conference in State College. He said they instead affect past and current students who were not part of the scandal. “I cannot and will not let it happen without a fight,” said Corbett, adding that the Sandusky case was a criminal matter and not a violation of NCAA rules. Corbett also called a university-funded review of the scandal led by former FBI Director Louis Freeh an incomplete report. Freeh’s 267-page review was released in July and blamed former university president Graham Spanier, Paterno, suspended Athletic Director Tim Curley, and ex-Vice President Gary Schultz for allegedly taking part in a cover-up to avoid bad publicity. The scandal led to Spanier’s ouster and shocked the nation after Freeh’s team concluded that the school’s top administrators had “empowered” Sandusky, the former defensive coordinator for the football team, to continue his abuse. The NCAA said in a statement Wednesday it was disappointed by the governor’s action. “Not only does this forthcoming lawsuit appear to be without merit, it is an affront to all of the victims in this tragedy — lives that were destroyed by the criminal actions of Jerry Sandusky,” said Donald M. Remy, NCAA executive vice president and general counsel. “While the innocence that was stolen can never be restored, Penn State has accepted the consequences for its role and the role of its employees and is moving forward. Today’s announcement by the governor is a setback to the university’s efforts.” Penn State also issued a statement Wednesday saying it remained “committed to full compliance with the Consent Decree, the Athletics Integrity Agreement and, as appropriate, the implementation of the Freeh report recommendations.” The fine is expected to be paid over five years and will fund an endowment with a mission of fighting child abuse and supporting victims. Pennsylvania’s U.S. House delegation objects to the NCAA’s plans to spend only 25% of those funds within the state. The delegation wants the association to spend all of the $60 million in Pennsylvania, according to a November letter to the NCAA. “While we fully support the stated purpose of the endowment, we believe its funds should be used solely for programs and organizations within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, where a need exists for the creation of prevention programs for abused children,” the letter stated. Sandusky, 68, was convicted last June on 45 counts of child abuse, ranging from corruption of minors to involuntary deviate intercourse, which were laid out in graphic testimony by his accusers over the course of the less-than-two-week trial. In October, he was sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison, meaning he’ll likely die behind bars. SMH. The NCAA’s sanctions were most definitely harsh, but then again, so was the corruption that took place for years. Do you think the Governor should take a seat and not dig this sh*t up again?? Does anyone respect freedom of speech anymore? San Francisco High School Student Suspended For Newtown Shooting Poem Via Examiner On Dec. 30 the “Today Show” reported the story about San Francisco high school senior Courtni Webb. Webb, 17, is facing “possible expulsion” for writing a poem about the Newton, Conn., Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Courtni wasn’t trying to be dark and depressed in her poem, but she didn’t write memorials to the victims either. Instead, Courtni wrote a poem about Adam Lanza and what she saw regarding his drive to a mass murder in a children’s classroom. She didn’t write about flowers and rainbows. She wrote, “They want to hold me back……I understand the killings in Connecticut. I know why he pulled the trigger…. society won’t take the blame. We’re full of a society of haters and blamers” What some might see as a child’s way of speaking out and dealing with such a tragedy, others are seeing as part of a zero tolerance approach to violence within Courtni Webb’s San Francisco high school. Webb didn’t turn the poem in as her assignment; it was something she had written for herself. However, the teacher discovered it in her personal notebook and turned it over to the principal. Webb’s mother thinks the school district is overreacting. For now, she is suspended until further notice. Courtni, who writes “all types” of poetry to express herself, told “Today” that she was just trying to express “her belief that tragedies in Sandy Hook happen because people feel helpless.” Peep the video of Courtni reading her poem below. How do you feel about Courtni’s writing? Was she wrong for writing such a poem? Was the teacher wrong for reporting her to the principal?? Image via YouTube

She embezzled the money to buy McDonald’s and Subway sandwiches. SMH. And according to The Huffington Post , this kind of theft is running rampant in our school systems: A former secretary at a New York City high school is facing $9,000 in fines for inappropriately spending public dollars, mostly on fast food and “dozens of visits to McDonald’s,” according to the New York Daily News. Kappry Vera resigned from Manhattan’s Urban Assembly School for Construction and Design in August 2011 when school officials started investigating her suspicious spending, according to the Daily News. The school’s principal noticed “questionable purchases” on the city-funded credit card intended for school purchases. The purchases totaled more than $3,000 in personal spending between August 2009 and May 2011. Vera dropped hundreds of dollars at joints like Subway and Burger King. Trips to McDonald’s, up to four times a day, totaled $765. Vera’s embezzlement charge comes nearly a year after Bronx principal Liza Cruz Diaz was removed from PS 31 over allegations that she stole about $5,000 from the school. Investigators said Cruz Diaz used some of the money to pay for her daughter’s “Sweet 16″ party and deleted financial records when she became aware of the probe. Employee siphoning of public dollars for private use plagues districts nationwide. A Pennsylvania audit of the York City School District last November found that the district misspent nearly $1 million in federal taxpayer money on items just sitting in storage. Items purchased by the district include 16 boxes of hula hoops, three greenhouses, Wii video game systems, dozens of laptops, expired tickets to Hersheypark, and 10 boxes of stopwatches. In Massachusetts, the state auditor has called for sweeping reform of financial accountability for the state’s 30 special education agencies after her office found several of the collaboratives had misused millions of public dollars. The most egregious offender was the Merrimack Special Education Collaborative, which auditors found to have spent $26.7 million in “inadequately documented and potentially unallowable expenses,” like $1,255 on alcohol, $18,284 on meals and entertainment, $142 for 30 pounds of swordfish for a special education director’s cookout, numerous purchases totaling $5,735 in golf-related charges, and $4,576 on vehicle expenses, including gasoline “for what appears to be a personal vehicle.” Damn…no wonder there’s never any money for science equipment or basic school supplies.
