Top 10 Reasons Hip Hop Has Changed And Isn’t As Potent As It Was In The 90′s [Video]

We here at Bossip loooove 90′s Rap and feel the whole rap game has died down. We’ve compiled a list of reasons “Hip Hop Has Changed And Is Not As Potent As It Used To Be.” #10:The internet. The internet is making bubble gum geeks into stars. I.E. Kreayshawn and others in her ilk. The internet lets anybody who wants to put out music… put it out at their own discretion which has lead to too much music being out there and folks having to have some kind of gimmick in order to make it. The gay rapper, the white girl rapper, the rapper that got his chain snatched on camera, that rapper that beat up somebody on camera, etc… etc. Also, people feel “why buy music?”

Big Boi Avoids Jail Time In Florida Drug Case

See more here:

ATL rap legend Big Boi has reached a deal on Florida drug charges that allows him to avoid jail time. The Associated Press reports that the OutKast rapper appeared in a Miami courtroom today as prosecutors outlined the deal. Big Boi (born Antwan Patton) will have to undergo three months of drug testing, perform community service and pay $2,000 in donations to charities. As we previously reported, Big Boi was arrested getting off a cruise ship in August after police discovered the rapper was carrying ecstasy, a cigarette roller with marijuana residue and the ecstasy ingredient MDMA. Big Boi had faced two felony drug charges. If he remains drug-free after three months of testing, those charges will be dismissed. Read more here. Big Boi, Freeway, Pill Encourage Prayers For Troy Davis

‘It’s just too much doubt,’ Outkast MC tells ‘RapFix Live’ of Georgia death-row inmate’s scheduled execution on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET. By Rob Markman Freeway Photo: MTV News With the planned execution of Georgia death-row inmate Troy Davis set for Wednesday (September 21), Big Boi and Freeway are asking people to pray. “The best thing to do is you gotta pray,” Big Boi said on Wednesday’s “RapFix Live” via Skype from Atlanta. “Anything is possible; we’re looking for a miracle right now.” In-house “RFL” guest Freeway agreed with the Outkast rapper. “I think Big Boi said it the best: The best thing people can do is pray for him, man. The power of prayer is unbelievable, man.” Davis’ lawyers have been fighting for a last-minute appeal on his behalf, hoping to be granted a clemency ruling that would spare him the death penalty after he was convicted in the 1989 killing of Georgia police officer Mark MacPhail, a crime Davis claims he did not commit. Big Boi has been supporting Davis’ family. And when he Skyped into “RapFix Live” at approximately 4:30 p.m. ET, just hours before the inmate’s scheduled execution, he told host Sway that he was at a rally outside the prison in Jackson, Georgia, where Davis is being held. “It’s a lot of support, a lot of people,” Big said of the rally. “They got over a million petition signatures saying they should commute his sentence or grant him clemency, so it’s an injustice for everybody right here, right now.” Pill, who first helped shed light on Troy Davis’ situation by flashing a “Justice for Troy Davis” poster in the video for his 2009 single “Trap Gon Ham,” also spoke his piece. “I think it’s an injustice,” the Maybach Music rapper told Sway via Skype. “I feel like somebody like Martin Luther King marched for things like this not to happen and it feels like it was pointless.” Atlanta-based Pill went on to compare Davis’ case with the controversial Casey Anthony verdict earlier this year. “He’s an innocent man, how can you kill an innocent man,” Pill questioned, “and you let a woman who you know killed her daughter walk free? That’s messed up.” Big Boi was a bit more measured with his words, pointing out that Davis’ lawyers have argued that new ballistics tests disprove the prosecution’s case and that seven of the nine original eyewitnesses changed all or part of their testimony in later proceedings. For the Outkast rapper, there just isn’t enough evidence. “It’s just too much doubt, all the way around it’s just too much doubt,” he argued. Big Boi Says Andre 3000 ‘Is In The Studio Right Now’

Outkast rapper teases the duo’s upcoming album during Labor Day show at New York’s Brooklyn Bowl: ‘Everything is all Gucci.’ By Jayson Rodriguez Big Boi Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage NEW YORK — Big Boi has been carrying the Outkast banner with pride even though the Atlanta duo’s last two projects — 2003’s bundled solos offering, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below and 2006’s soundtrack collection, Idlewild — haven’t exactly been the best representations of the group as a unit. On Monday in New York City, Big Boi once again did his best to make up for his partner in rhyme’s absence when he hit Brooklyn Bowl for a Labor Day set. “[Andre 3000] is in the studio right now,” he told the crowd, explaining that after he finishes with his own solo project, the pair will reunite for a new Outkast album . But as Big Boi performed the group’s hits, mixing in tracks from his Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty , the usual elephant in the room was that Andre 3000 seemed as distant as the videos projecting Three Stacks’ image on the venue’s big screens. Still, Big Boi powered through his Outkast set list, running through his verses from “Miss Jackson,” “Player’s Ball” and “Elevators” all sans an audio peep from Dre. Big Boi was efficient in his performance, moving nimbly from song to song; no complaints from the audience about the one-man show. “It’s so many f—ing songs,” Big Boi told his DJ, Swift. “I don’t care what you play.” “Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik” boomed through the house speakers, but Big Boi quickly moved onto material from his proper solo debut. “I know it’s been a minute,” Big said, in reference to the time between Idlewild and Sir Lucious Left Foot, which was released earlier this year after being stuck in limbo for a few years. “So just to give you some insight, we working,” he continued. “Everything is all Gucci. My thing is, I didn’t need to put out an album just because. It has to be about the music.” With that, Big kicked off “Shutterbuggg” , and the party officially began. “I keep it player while some choose to play it safe,” Big Boi rapped over the cascading beat. “Boy, check the r

Big Boi ‘Tinkering’ With Music For Next Outkast, Solo LPs

‘Whether I’m on the road touring or on the bus … just putting ideas down,’ the Atlanta MC tells MTV News. By Jayson Rodriguez Big Boi Photo: MTV News Big Boi finally delivered his long-awaited solo album, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, this week. But after taking three years to deliver the LP, is it safe for fans to assume Big’s next effort is just around the corner? Not exactly. The slick Atlanta MC says he’s started work on a follow up, Daddy Fat Sax, but between promoting his current collection and juggling a handful of projects — his next set, partner Andre 3000’s solo disc and another Outkast album — Big Boi is juggling a lot right now or, as he put it, “tinkering.” “I got about four, five songs that I’m tinkering with right now,” Big Boi told MTV News about Daddy Fat Sax, tentatively slated for a late-2011 release. “But at the same time, there’s a couple of records that we picked out for the Outkast record too. So while Dre is working on his records, we’re kinda, with Organized Noise, seeing what’s gonna go for the ‘Kast album. And at the same time, with the beats I already got, I’m just making the most out of my time, whether I’m on the road touring or just on the bus or whatever; just putting ideas down.” The Georgia rapper said this album showcases his sometimes-overlooked gifts as a solo artist (“I’m a master of my craft.”). Big Boi’s Sir Lucious Left Foot features collaborations with T.I., Gucci Mane and Janelle Monae, among others. Andre 3000, Lil Jon and Scott Storch provide production assistance on the set, and the Storch-produced lead single, “Shutterbugg,” has been getting rave reviews. Big’s recently dropped the video for his sophomore single, “Follow Us.” The July 6 album was a labor of love for the Outkast MC. Originally slated for release three years ago on Jive, where the duo is signed to as a group, Sir Lucious Left Foot got a new home after disagreements with his Outkast label led Big Boi to jump ship and ink a solo deal with Def Jam. “With this album right here, there was just a lot of label politics in the background that kinda fueled my fire,” Big Boi said of enduring multiple delays. “You not gonna tell me what I’m doing isn’t jamming. I know this is some of the best music I’m making in my whole life; I’m putting everything into it. I’m spending time away my family, my wife and my kids to record for three years and you don’t respect my craft? That kind of fueled everything.” What do you think of Big Boi’s solo album? Big Boi Proves He’s A ‘Master’ On Solo Debut Sir Lucious Left Foot

Long-awaited album, featuring T.I., Gucci Mane, YelaWolf and others, due out this week. By Jayson Rodriguez Big Boi Photo: MTV News Big Boi is a staunch defender of the Outkast legacy, but the slick Atlanta MC is also quick to clarify his own stature within the confines of the partnership. “Outkast is a supergroup,” he told MTV News on Tuesday (July 6), stressing that even when the duo aren’t together, they’re equally capable of delivering quality music. And right now, Big Boi is basking in the critical acclaim of his long-in-the-works proper solo debut , Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty. The project, which was originally slated to be released on Jive Records two years ago, is coming out this week on Def Jam Records. “It’s basically the same album. I could have been done, like, a year ago,” Big Boi said. “But being that we were having creative differences — you know, every time they rejected what I was doing, I would go back in the studio and work on more stuff. The last two songs, ‘You Ain’t No DJ’ and ‘Be Still,’ were the last two records, but everything else was already on there.” For Sir Lucious Left Foot, Big Boi assembled a ragtag collection of artists, from established talents like T.I. and Gucci Mane to upstarts YelaWolf and his own artist Janelle Monae. The result, however, is a cohesive collection that hinges on the Outkast sound but is still wily enough to venture into new terrain, as evidenced on the slinky track “Shutterbugg.” Big Boi said the set showcases his talent, which he feels is at its peak at the moment thanks to his solo effort. “It’s good. I started off 16 years old, I’m 35 now, I’m in my prime,” he said. “The whole Sir Lucious Left Foot thing, the simple way I can put it is like when Luke Skywalker became a Jedi. So I’m a master of my craft. As a producer and MC, I take the craft very seriously. We might be lurking in the shadows for a minute, but when we lurking we working.” Related Artists Big Boi

Ciara Says It ‘Feels Really Good’ To Get Andre 3000 On ‘Ride’ Remix

‘He is, from what I understand, very selective and … protective of his creativity,’ she tells MTV News. By Mawuse Ziegbe Ciara in “Ride” Photo: Jive Ciara has found a way to make her sexy single “Ride” even hotter: a collaboration with Andre 3000, one of the most sought-after MCs in the game. CiCi has recruited the Outkast rapper for a remix of “Ride,” which also features fellow ATLien Ludacris. But the diva didn’t land the collaboration alone; she brought in some music-industry bigwigs to help her out. “My team actually kind of helped put that together. My A&R [rep] Mark [Pitts] and [RCA/Jive Label Group Chairman and CEO] Barry Weiss, they kinda worked it out,” Ciara told MTV News about getting the MC, who is known for being selective when it comes to doling out features. “It was just a really cool thing for Dre to respond back and say he wanted to get on the record.” Ciara also revealed that the remix is not the first time she and the star tried to work together. “When I was doing [2006’s] Evolution, I wanted him to do something with me, and we never got to do anything,” Ciara said. “It’s just really great timing now that we get to do something.” Ciara followers are used to hearing the singer rock with stars who rep the A, like Luda and Young Jeezy, but CiCi said fans are getting something fresh with the 3000 collabo. “My fans are getting an unexpected treat with it. He is, from what I understand, very selective and … protective of his creativity, so it just feels really good to be able to rock with him,” Ciara said. There isn’t yet a release date for her next album, Basic Instinct, but the star said fans can look out for it later this year. “I’m really, like, 95 percent done right now with the record,” Ciara said. “You’re gonna be able to dance nonstop.” Are you excited to hear Ciara’s collabo with Andre 3000?
