Can You Ever Tell Your Friend What You Really Think About Their Relationship?

Hands up if you have sat, sympathetic look on your face, trying really hard to say something comforting to a friend who is dealing with what, the way she describes it, is a relationship problem as catastrophic as the sinking of the Titanic and as historically important as September 11? The first couple of times this happens, you do actually care, and you will happily sit up at three in the morning, trying to decipher her words through the sobs, and you do try to contribute something helpful, something supportive and something with definite anti-male undertones. The next few times, your patience is wearing thin, you are inwardly fighting the urge to shake some sense into her, slap her a few times, and scream ‘Wake up sista!!!!’. Instead, you calmly question her, ‘if he treats you so badly, why are you still with him?’, now obviously less comforting, but you believe anyway, more constructive. When that falls on deaf ears, and the next week she is right back with him and crying to you again, you try to tell it to her straight. You tell her that even though you might love him, you fight all the time, you are always crying, or angry, or hurt, and no, a box of chocolates, or a bouquet of flowers, should not be enough this time, regardless of the fact that it is imported Swiss chocolate, or your favorite long stemmed roses. You believe, with the overwhelming amount of evidence to support your theory, that they are not right for each other and you think that finally, you have gotten through to your friend and she now feels the same, and is on er way home to once and for all end the drama. Britney Spears Vs. Lady Gaga: Fans Weigh In

Fans are split between Gaga and Britney as 2011’s Queen of Pop. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears and Lady Gaga Photo: Getty Images On Monday, MTV News tried to forecast whether Lady Gaga or Britney Spears will be 2011’s ruling diva. And while our experts decided it was sort of a toss-up, commenters on our predictions had very strong opinions on that epic question. With nearly 1,500 posts between the Newsroom blog and the Gaga vs. Britney article , here are the results of fans’ votes on the matter. Spears won the poll on the Newsroom blog with more than 60 percent of the vote. Britney fanatics stated their overwhelming support for the singer. “The one and only legend Britney Spears from past to present, she’s the most popular on the planet,” Jojo wrote. “We the supporters love Britney Spears a lot. We buy her perfume, CDs … we are here for her. The legend is coming through.” Daniel wrote, “You never know what to expect from Lady Gaga but I think that THE REAL QUEEN OF POP is back … TEAM BRITNEY!” Meanwhile, commenter CrazySpears wrote, “I think GAGA is ok but people can never compare her with Britney … you know Britney is the Queen.” But Gaga’s little monsters were also out in full support of their mother monster. ” Born This Way will be the album of the decade and that’s a fact,” Little wrote. “2011 is Gaga’s year, again.” Imtherealbatman wrote, “LADY GAGA FTW! Lady Gaga is the shizz dude. She is going to win this war. I LOVE YOU LADY GAGA!” Another Gaga commenter, Carl, added, “WHAT COMPETITION IS THERE !?! Have you not seen the impact Lady Gaga has done to pop culture today?! Bringing dance music back on the scene, creating a buzz by standing up for gay rights, connecting to her fans in a way NO other artist has!?” In the end, commenter Kyle proposed that it’s really anyone’s game. “Well, just in case you were saying I’m not a devoted Gaga fan, you’re wrong. Born This Way is all I think about. But I love Britney just as much. And neither is superior,” he wrote. “They are famous for their own reasons and it doesn’t matter what they are. What matters is how much devotion and loyalty they get from fans. Britney’s fanbase has been and always will be huge. Just like Gaga’s is growing strong.” Who do you think will rule in 2011, Lady Gaga or Britney Spears? Tell us in the comments below! Jennifer Lopez Dishes On ‘Most Fascinating People’ Interview With Barbara Walters

Star credits ‘American Idol’ gig, new music and motherhood with landing her a spot on annual list. By James Dinh Jennifer Lopez Photo: WireImage Thanks to the upcoming season of “American Idol,” an impending new album and recently announced endorsement deals, Jennifer Lopez ‘s career is seeing a resurgence. So it’s no surprise that the pop star, who spent recent years lying low to raise her twins alongside husband Marc Anthony, nabbed a spot on Barbara Walters’ “10 Most Fascinating People of 2010” list. Speaking with WWD , Lopez credited her inclusion on the celeb hot list to a combination of personal and professional endeavors including “the ‘American Idol’ [deal to appear as a judge] and also being a mom and entering back in the scene with the album.” The singer also admitted that she felt the pressure from the news correspondent during the interview, which airs Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on ABC. WWD joked with the singer/actress about whether Walters asked her questions like “What kind of tree are you?” She replied, “She didn’t ask me that, but she did ask me some kind of an abstract question like that, where I was like, ‘You’re Barbara Walter-ing me right now!’ ” Lopez, who joins Steven Tyler on the “Idol” judging panel this season, has also been chosen as the new face for L’Or

Robert Pattinson Is ‘Extraordinarily Attractive,’ Admits Reese Witherspoon

Actress marvels at the ‘fervor’ around her ‘Water for Elephants’ co-star. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Reese Witherspoon Photo: MTV News Reese Witherspoon became a household name in the late ’90s with a string of scene-stealing turns in films like “Pleasantville” and “Election.” Around the same time, Leonardo DiCaprio was transforming from teen heartthrob to mature Hollywood A-lister, thanks to the nearly $2 billion dollar success of “Titanic.” Over a decade later, Witherspoon has been thinking back to that pop culture period. It’s the only way she can make sense of the overwhelming popularity of her “Water for Elephants” co-star Robert Pattinson . “The only thing I can compare it to is when Leo was in ‘Titanic,’ ” she told MTV News while promoting her upcoming movie “How Do You Know.” “It was that kind of fervor about a person. The women lining up outside the set — it was unbelievable — till 5 o’clock in the morning waiting to just glimpse him.” The Tennessee set of “Water for Elephants” was basically no different than what happens when the “Twilight” vamp goes anywhere. As director Francis Lawrence told us in the fall, “[E]very day there would be, like, 50 people [staked out] … . [T]here would be people camped out in the hallways of our hotel. All day, all night long, it didn’t matter. People were there to try to catch a glimpse.” Witherspoon, of course, got an up-close-and-personal glimpse of RPattz, and she was happy to report back to us: “He is extraordinarily attractive. I’m not gonna lie,” she said. “Robert is such a great guy from a great family,” she explained. “That’s the thing that’s so funny. He’s not really this bad boy; he’s just a great guy and really worked hard on ‘Water for Elephants.’ He really worked long hours, long days. He looks totally different in the movie.” Check out everything we’ve got on “How Do You Know.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .

Weezer Revisit Pinkerton At Second Of Two Shows In San Francisco

Band performed 1994’s Blue Album at previous night’s show. By Matt Elias Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo performs in San Francisco on Monday Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/ Getty Images Halfway into Weezer ‘s set on Tuesday night, frontman Rivers Cuomo was sprawled out onstage, basking in the overwhelming sense of adoration in the room. It was night two of Weezer’s Memories Tour stop in San Francisco, at the Nob Hill Masonic Center, and the band started with a 10-song set followed by their 1996 sophomore effort Pinkerton in its entirety (night one saw Weezer play its entire Blue album ). As loose and energetic as the previous night, Weezer’s second engagement was a nod to die-hard Weezer fans. The set included some rarities like 1995’s “You Gave Your Love to Me Softly” and “Susanne.” Band members shared vocal duties throughout the set — guitarist Brian Bell took over on “Pork and Beans” and bassist Scott Shriner on “Dope Nose.” And as he did the night before, drummer Pat Wilson donned a guitar during the first part of the set, with drummer Josh Freese taking over percussion duties. The fans also took part in the action. Rivers invited a trio of fans decked out in homemade Weezer Ts onstage for the rest of the audience to see. At another point, Rivers spotted a fan waving a homemade W flag and invited him onstage. They stretched it out for all to see, and Rivers then displayed it on the drum riser. When he wasn’t inviting fans onstage, Rivers Cuomo was running through the audience, high-fiving fans and climbing on theater seats. No one was left untouched — not even the venue staff. During “Hash Pipe,” Cuomo yanked a beanie off a petite female staffer, plopped it on his head for a bit, then stretched it out onto a beefy security guard’s dome. Intermission followed and Weezer’s unofficial fifth member, Karl Koch, helmed a slide show (just like on the first night), showing off gems from Weezer’s early days. The crowd swooned at the sight of one of Weezer’s first fliers from 1992, a photo of the band with Spike Jonze during the Pinkerton recordings, and also shared a collective laugh at a Rolling Stone magazine clipping that declared Pinkerton the second-worst album of 1996 (just behind Bush’s Razorblade Suitcase ). When it was time for the Pinkerton set, the album’s cover art hung in the background, Pat returned to his drum kit and Rivers returned sans glasses (and not looking much different than he did during his Pinkerton days). The band ripped through the album’s 10 songs, garnering even more sing-alongs than the previous night. Those in attendance were definitely a dedicated bunch. The feeling was mutual. On “El Scorcho,” Brian gestured to the crowd during the lyrics “I’m a lot like you,” summing up the sentiment of the night. As the rest of the band left the stage, Rivers closed out the show with his acoustic guitar on “Butterfly” (and Karl took a stab at drumming). As the song concluded, Rivers took one simple bow and exited the stage — capping off a splendid two-night engagement of the Memories Tour. Related Artists Weezer

How Not to Talk About Climate Politics

Photo via CO2 Post Yesterday, I wondered aloud whether there was any way to steer the general conversation about climate change away from the realm of political ideology — and the overwhelming response in the comments section left me even more bewildered than before. If anything, the response revealed that there is much work left to do to bring an even-keeled discussion about the science of climate change and potential so… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Chris Brown, Tyga Planning Fan Of A Fan Tour

Tyga explains success of ‘Deuces’ to Mixtape Daily : ‘The people chose the record.’ By Shaheem Reid Chris Brown and Tyga Photo: Courtesy of Young Money The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Chris Brown is in the #1 film in the country, “Takers,” and now that he’s done with Hollywood (for now), he’s going back to the lab. “Me, I’m definitely writing on other people’s projects. A lot of in-house stuff,” Brown said recently in L.A. “I got a lot of artists coming out. The single ‘Deuces’ features one of my artists K-Mac and Tyga [from Young Money]. I’m pushing forward. The movie’s out, so I’mma have fun.” “Deuces” is in the top 30 of Billboard ‘s Hot 100 charts and #1 on urban radio. The record’s success is simply due to fan support. It’s part of Brown and Tyga’s Fan of a Fan mixtape and skyrocketed once the video hit virally and on MTV Jams. “That was actually Chris’ idea,” Tyga told us about putting out a visual for the song. “I thought the record was dope. I thought it was dope for us to do that video. He got to explain his situation. It connects to his fans. His fans miss that from him. “I think the people chose the record,” Tyga added. “We put the mixtape out, and we asked them: What record do you like the most? They was like, ‘Deuces.’ It was always coming up. It was growing on YouTube as well, like 100,000 views a day on YouTube. It was his idea to shoot the video. My homie Colin Tilly, he’s done all my videos. He’s done everything. All my mixtape stuff to the bigger stuff I’m doing now. He got it right. It’s what people wanna see, what they wanna hear.” Despite the overwhelming success of Fan of a Fan, Tyga said he and Chris aren’t planning an official LP, but they are hitting the road together. “I don’t think you wanna drown people too much,” Tyga said about making a full album with Brown. “We’ve been doing a lot of stuff, though. He’s on my album. We’re actually working on a tour right now. A Fan of Fan Tour at the end of the year. It’ll be dope.” Tyga has an album coming out soon; it doesn’t have a release date yet. But his next mixtape, Well Done, will hit within the next couple of weeks. It’s going to be a Gangsta Grillz edition. “I feel like I had to deal with [DJ] Drama. He reminded of Wayne, when he did Dedication with him,” Tyga explained. “[Wayne] was going in on every beat. All the mixtapes I’ve been dropping, they’re close to albums. They’re more songs. They have more content. This one, I wanted to rap on everybody’s beat and murder every beat that’s out. It’s fun to do that. It’s easy. I can knock that out real fast. I think Drama is dope when you wanna link up and murder beats like that.” Some of the tracks Tyga is pilfering are Soulja Boy’s “Pretty Boy Swag” and Nicki Minaj’s “Your Love.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines .
