Miley Cyrus had a great time last night, celebrating the Oscars with boyfriend Liam Hemsworth at two locations: Elton John’s annual viewing party and then the subsequent Vanity Fair bash. But the singer/actress had anything but a great time prior to hitting Hollywood, Tweeting up a storm in response to a few seriously hateful individuals. “U have nothing better 2 do than hate?” Miley wrote in response to remarks (since deleted) that she “dresses like white trash” and is “so f-cking hideous,” adding: “That saddens me. Im surrounded by love Im sorry 4 whatever happened 2 make u so bitter.” Moreover, the barbs went far beyond commentary on Miley’s fashion sense (which has her beating out Kim Kardashian at the moment anyway. Take that, haters!) “I wont tolerate someone telling me 2 die,” Cyrus Tweeted, taking both the morons who made such threats and the social network itself to task: “Twitter needs to take some responsibility and make it a safe environment.” [Photo: WENN.com]
In his ninth time hosting the Academy Awards, Crystal isn’t planning to ‘go after people’ like some recent awards-show emcees. By Kara Warner 2012 Oscar host Billy Crystal Photo: FilmMagic Although Billy Crystal wasn’t the Academy’s first pick to host the Oscars this year, the veteran emcee is a breath of familiar air to Hollywood’s main event. This year marks Crystal’s ninth time hosting the show, and at age 63, he will be the oldest solo host of the event since Bob Hope in 1978 (Steve Martin was 64 when he co-hosted with Alec Baldwin in 2010). Coincidentally, the “When Harry Met Sally” star received a standing ovation from the Oscar audience last year when he appeared onstage briefly to honor Hope. While some awards-show hosts of late have ventured into taboo and risky territory (see: Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais ), Crystal has always carried out his duties with class and his own special brand of charisma, charm and wit. “It’s important that the show be good, and I take it really seriously,” Crystal told Entertainment Weekly about the pressures and importance of the job. “That whole concept of ‘I want to really go after people’ — I don’t understand that. Is it a roast or is it an awards show? Do you dislike these people? I have a different bar. If there’s a good target and they deserve it, you can kid them in the right way. But it’s not the place to go out there and hammer people, because who am I? There’s many times we’ve kicked out jokes because they were too personal.” It is very clear that Crystal will not be going for the jugular, which is more than fine by us, since the Oscars have a decidedly more serious and regal tone. This year’s ceremony will be helmed by a man who respects the industry and appreciates the pomp and circumstance of it all. And while we likely won’t witness any gasp-worthy jokes or quips, we can expect to feel warm and welcome via another one of Crystal’s lively movie montages at the start of the show, along with a few lighthearted tongue-in-cheek remarks that make us all feel like we’re in on the joke and invited to the party. From Justin and Selena to Justin and Jessica, MTV News takes a look at the hottest couples from the 2011 Academy Awards. By Jocelyn Vena Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party Photo: Craig Barritt/ Getty Images The Academy Awards happen to be one of the most glamorous nights of the year, filled with over-the-top acceptance speeches and crazy-expensive couture. It can also serve as the glitziest date night for some of the most famous people in the world. With this year’s Oscars only days away, we decided to take a look back at last year’s show and remember some of the most dazzling couples to hit the Oscar scene. A very pregnant Natalie Portman took the stage on Oscars night last year to accept her prize for Best Actress for her role in “Black Swan.” In between “thank you’s” for the Academy, her family and her fellow nominees, she also thanked her main man, and the father of her son, ballet dancer Benjamin Millepied. “I want to thank my parents for giving me the opportunity to work from such an early age [and] my beautiful love, Benjamin, who has now given me my most important role of my life,” she told the room. “Most importantly, my family, my friends and my love, thank you so much.” Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez looked like the young A-listers they are when they arrived at the annual Vanity Fair Oscar party, arm in arm. The night was filled with nuzzling, schmoozing and being in love. It also served as the most high-profile appearance the two had made in their time as a couple. Another Justin and his lady love also dazzled at the same bash. Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel chilled at the party, looking stunning in high-end fashion. The two may have broken up not long after the fete, but the photo remained a reminder of their often-speculated-about romance, before they got back together — and reportedly got engaged — later in 2011. “True Blood” stars Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer looked like the grown-up version of Justin and Selena (both guys donned formal wear and both ladies wore blood red). James Franco and Anne Hathaway may not have been romantically involved, but they were certainly trying their best to romance Oscar viewers as co-hosts. While Hathaway brought her high-energy theater-kid charm to the show, Franco opted for the type of charm we might expect from his “Freaks and Geeks” character Daniel Desario: low-key and a bit confused. An image of the late Whitney Houston is featured on the cover of a national tabloid that we wish not to endorse. The photo was allegedly taken inside the family’s private viewing on Feb. 17th in Newark, New Jersey’s Wigham Funeral Home. It shows Whitney Houston peaceful lying in her golden casket with her “favorite purple dress” and diamond earrings. The magazine claims she was buried in $500,000 worth of jewelry. RedFoo and Sky Blu throw epic house party in cartoon-like clip featuring David Hasselhoff. By Jocelyn Vena LMFAO Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images First they had us shufflin’. Then they introduced us to the wiggle. And for their latest video , for the club-thumping track “Sorry for Party Rocking,” the guys of LMFAO are throwing the ultimate cartoon-like house party. The clip, which premiered Monday night, opens with an older couple (played by LMFAO’s Sky Blu and RedFoo) arguing over the ruckus of a nearby house party, hosted by LMFAO’s very own Sky and Red. When the older gentleman makes his way over to the party to complain, he gets the door slammed in his face. Inside the party, the guys and their colorful crew are wearing their animal-print and neon-colored clothes, dancing and drinking the night away. When they refuse to shut down the party, the older man calls the police. But instead of shutting it down, they join the madness. So does everyone else: from pizza delivery guys and sexy nurses to truck drivers and David Hasselhoff (who appeared with the guys onstage during their 2011 American Music Awards performance). And, while the older man is trying to shut the party down, he finds his wife inside enjoying the festivities. Who could not be charmed by a house party thrown by Red and Sky? As the video begins to come to a close, RedFoo falls over from all the good times. When he is whisked away by an ambulance, he drops his phone, which is later picked up by someone who begins to party rock to “Anthem.” Christopher “Kid” Reid (from Kid’N’Play , who know a thing or two about house parties) arrives at the scene as the party seems to be winding down to complain about all the noise. In the final seconds, the video very quickly references the hospital scene that opens the group’s very memorable “Party Rock Anthem” video , where they fought off a zombie-like dancing epidemic. Perhaps this party had something to do with the origins of the plague in that video. Directed by Mickey Finnegan (who directed “Party Rock Anthem” and “Sexy and I Know It” as well as clips for Cee Lo Green and Soulja Boy), the whole video takes place in a world made up of cardboard cutouts and animations, making it a surreal escape. The video includes smooth dances moves from former “America’s Best Dance Crew” dance crews Quest Crew and the Beat Freaks. What do you think of LMFAO’s new video? Leave your comment below! As we’ve seen in his interview with Machine Gun Kelly or ScHoolboy Q, Hot 97′s Peter Rosenberg keeps it 100 whenever he provides his opinion on a subject. When discussing Nicki Minaj, there was no change in Rosenberg’s filter at all. I don’t know what Emmanielle Chriqui has been doing ever since her bit part on Entourage came to an end, but somebody decided it was a good idea to invite her to a party over the weekend. I couldn’t agree more, sitting around her house doing nothing can’t be good for her moral, she’s got to get back out there. I don’t know what the party is for, but she looks pretty good for an out of work actress.
R&B divas Brandy and Monica teamed up to perform their new collaboration single “It All Belongs to Me” for the first time on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”. The singers were supposed to perform the song last Saturday at the Clive Davis pre-Grammy party, but they pulled out at the last minute following Whitney Houston’s death. Earlier this week, the ladies shot a video for the single, which is set to appear on both of their respective album projects and is also now available on Itunes.
