Tragic News: Teenager From “Facebook Uncle” Video Shot And Killed In New Orleans

Sad, sad, news out of New Orleans. Remember the viral video of a teenager getting spanked on Youtube for his gang affiliations? Well, the once-comical story took a horrible turn. According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said Michael Taylor, 16, was found shot to death shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7 when deputies responded to a report of gunshots in the area. Taylor had been shot multiple times. Sgt. Larry Dyess, JPSO spokesman, told the Times-Picayune that authorities had no suspect or motive in the incident. Taylor’s mother, Kimberly Ward, told the newspaper that she kept strict tabs on her son, even making him stay on the sidewalk in eyesight of their home when he went outside. The night of the shooting, she said, Taylor received a text message from a friend at about 8 p.m. and went outside to chat. “She said she called him back inside a few minutes later to find out what was going on, and he told her he was just talking and went back outside. A few minutes later, her daughter received a text message saying that Taylor had been shot, and then another saying he was dead,” the newspaper reported. “Ward said she rushed from the house, driving around the neighborhood looking for her son, but didn’t find him until she was coming back to her apartment complex. That’s when she saw his body on the cold sidewalk, clad in the red sweatshirt she’d noticed when he left the house. “I came home and saw my son on the ground,” Ward said. There aren’t any suspects in the case. It’s just so sad. We thought that maybe the embarrassing video would help him get on the right path. This just brings tears to our eyes. Best Songs Of 2011

MTV’s Sway moderates a panel of our music experts as they count down the year’s top 10 bangers. By MTV News staff Rihanna Photo: Getty Images MTV’s list of the Best Songs of 2011 is like one of those old late-night commercials for awesome sampler albums: you’ve got your pop hit, a bit of rock, some hip-hop, R&B and a tune or two that you just can’t fully define, but which you definitely shook it to at some point over the past 12 months. Last week, MTV correspondent Sway Calloway moderated a spirited roundtable discussion with some of our very own experts: James Montgomery and Rob Markman (MTV News), Yomi Desalu and Malika Quemerais (MTV Music and Talent) and Tamar Anitai and Nicole Rosner (MTV.com). The panel managed to narrow it down to their top 10. While we’ll reveal #10 to #3, you’ll have to tune in to MTV at 4:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday night (December 14) to find out which songs snagged the top two spots. We will say that the year’s ultimate “Party Rock Anthem” made the cut, as did Rihanna’s waltz into the world of dubstep, a kitchen-sink empowerment anthem for anyone who’s ever felt marginalized, and an unexpected smash about a school shooting that is so catchy you might miss the sinister lyrics. Two of rap’s titans are also on the list, as is a pop princess who hopped on the Empowerment Express, an R&B singer who went the Dirty South route with two hip-hop icons, and a Latin rhymer asking for some eye contact over a club-banging beat. 10. “Firework,” Katy Perry Sure, its release as a single came in late 2010, but the true impact of “Firework” was felt in 2011. It rang in the New Year at #1, was Perry’s top single of the year and is nominated for the Record of the Year Grammy. More importantly, the song’s message touched fans all over the world as the pop star toured the globe. “I wrote this song for anyone who ever needed a song. To help them, to lift them up,” she told the crowd when I saw her at New York’s Nassau Coliseum this summer. The arena shook as every person sang along with her and pyro lit up the stage, raining down like a wall of sparklers. — John Mitchell 9. “Look at Me Now,” Chris Brown Tough, aggressive and completely unapologetic lyrically, Chris goes hard on the F.A.M.E. track, which also features rap heavy-hitters Busta Rhymes and Lil Wayne. Grinding production, bleeping noises and bumping beats answer Brown’s siren call about not really caring very much what anyone thinks about him and his bad-boy rep. Why? Well, mostly because he’s “fresh than a mother—-er.” Given Brown’s nefarious past, it was a catchy, bold, brash statement from one of R&B’s biggest young stars. — Jocelyn Vena 8. “N—as in Paris,” Kanye West and Jay-Z Kanye West picked a fitting Will Ferrell sound bite for “N—as in Paris,” but not even Yeezy could have predicted just how much his and Jay-Z’s second Watch the Throne single would get the people going. After leading with “Otis,” the Throne’s kinetic follow-up joint seems to be the ultimate people’s choice. The brash title and profane hook (“Ball so hard mother—-ers wanna fine me”) doesn’t exactly scream radio hit, but that’s exactly what it has become, peaking at #1 on the Billboard Rap Songs chart. The song has become so popular that Hov and ‘Ye have performed it as many as eight times in a single night during their WTT Tour run. Now that sh– cray! — Rob Markman 7. “Pumped Up Kicks,” Foster the People If you went to a rock club or major festival, turned on satellite radio, or visited any retail store that sells skinny jeans, you were likely entranced by the from the Los Angeles trio’s breakout hit “Pumped Up Kicks.” The combination of lyrics about a psychotic, gun-toting teen and cheery, New Wave-y bass bounce, seven-dwarves-worthy whistling, hypnotic electronic effects and former jingle writer Mark Foster’s dreamy falsetto vocals revived the feel of mid-1990s alt-rock. Plus, as it turns out, this potential one-hit-wonder ended up having plenty more to offer. — Gil Kaufman 6. “Give Me Everything,” Pitbull Pitbull is perhaps music’s most underrated hitmaker, but if 2009’s “I Know You Want Me” and “Hotel Room Service” weren’t enough to convince the naysayers, the Cuban pop-rapper’s omnipresent “Give Me Everything” should’ve done the trick in 2011. On paper, a song featuring Pit, Ne-Yo, Afrojack and sexy-siren Nayer might seem a bit all over the place, but by the end of the four4-minute, 12-second jam, it all worked out quite nicely. There’s a reason the one-night stand ode hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The energetic dance groove, rapid rhymes and the track’s infectious hook were choice ingredients for the perfect party record. — R.M. 5. “Born This Way,” Lady Gaga Quick, name another top 10 hit that seeks to empower the LGBT community, drag queens, the disabled or anyone who is “black, white beige, chola descent … Lebanese … orient.” You can’t, because nobody but Mother Monster has the cojones to release “Born This Way” as the first single off an eagerly anticipated sophomore album. The tune mixes soaring rhetoric with equally pulse-quickening beats. Of course, it was accompanied by a viscous-liquid-dripping seven-minute video that added to Gaga’s mind-tripping visual canon and further established her as one of the biggest triple threats in music. — G.K. 4. “Party Rock Anthem,” LMFAO LMFAO’s ode to being the life of the party is the definition of a guilty pleasure, and it was an instant hit, topping the charts and playlists. With a fist-pumping beat and lyrics that are nearly as silly as the leopard-print pants RedFoo and SkyBlu typically rock, “Party Rock Anthem” had everyone from your grandma to Justin Bieber “shufflin’. ” — J.V. 3. “We Found Love,” Rihanna Rihanna fully embraced EDM on her Talk That Talk single. Produced by Calvin Harris, “We Found Love” is a swirling party track about love and loss. It took pop’s obsession with dance music to the next level thanks to its killer production. Sparse at times and completely enthralling at others, “WFL” is sad and joyous all at the same time. A call back to ’90s raves, the song made pop lovers want to break out their glow sticks and just dance. — Jocelyn Vena We’ve counted down #10 to #3, but will Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” or Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass” come out on top in the final two? This Means War!!! Jennifer Williams And Evelyn Lozada Scrap It Up At Shaunie’s Bday Party

For those of y’all who thought we were playing when we said Evelyn Lozada and Jennifer Williams are no longer BFF’s , here’s an update that should let you know just how real it is. During Shaunie O’Neal’s birthday dinner celebration this weekend the two ladies allegedly came to BLOWS! Shaunie O’Neal had a belated birthday celebration in Miami over the past weekend, and an eye witness at the gathering claims there was a crazy confrontation between Jennifer Williams and her (former?) BFF Evelyn Lozada! According to the witness, as Shaunie was celebrating her birthday at Philippe Chow, guests Evelyn and Jen got into an intense verbal argument, which ended with Evelyn allegedly hitting Jennifer on the top of the head with a clutch purse! After more harsh words, the two were separated. We’re told VH1′s cameras were rolling and the entire incident was caught on tape. On December 10th Shaunie and Tami Roman, who is also a cast member, tweeted to each other about the party being “interesting and epic.” Viewers of the show have watched Eve and Jen’s close friendship slowly fall apart, namely due to the fact that Jennifer went public with some not so nice comments about Evelyn’s fiance Chad Ochocinco. Jennifer and Evelyn also no longer follow each other on Twitter. If you love drama, then you are going to love when the season debuts in February 2012. Calls to Jennifer and Evelyn’s reps were not returned. We spoke to a few sources of our own who confirmed that this one is TRUE! One insider said that when the drinks started flowing Ev began really acting up. Aw man! We know how fiesty she gets. Probably part of the reason folks love her so. Nonetheless, ladies that is no way to act at Philippe Chow. Them chicken skewers alone ought to be enough to strike up a peace treaty! We’re actually kinda sad to hear these girls haven’t been able to get past their differences. EvLo and Jenn were the OG Mean Girls. Hopefully by the time the reunion swings around they’ll have found some newbie to throw drinks at unite over! Source

Angelina Jolie Calls ‘Blood And Honey’ Crew A ‘Family’

‘We were all together presenting something that we felt represented a part of history,’ first-time director/screenwriter tells MTV News. By Kara Warner Angelina Jolie on the set of “In the Land of Blood and Honey” Photo: Ken Regan / GK Films In selecting a subject for her screenwriting and directorial debut, Angelina Jolie did not choose an easy one. While some first-time directors might have gone with a romantic comedy, small-scale film or mainstream subject to tackle, Jolie’s “In the Land of Blood and Honey” is a harrowing, unrelenting drama set against the backdrop of the Bosnian War that highlights the horrors of the ethnic conflict that has occurred far too often throughout history. The film revolves around the relationship between two Bosnians on opposite sides of the conflict, Danijel ( Goran Kostic ) and Ajla ( Zana Marjanovic ) and the devastating toll the war has on their lives. When MTV News caught up with Jolie, Kostic and Marjanovic recently, we asked what aspects they were able to enjoy during the filmmaking process, since so much of the work required of the cast and crew was intense and emotional. “When we were in New York [at the premiere], and we were all together presenting something that we felt represented a part of history and brought dialogue, we were together and we were a family, and I was extremely moved by that,” Jolie said. “That was the best moment.” Jolie tapped into “something that is very personal and very private and very fixed to the region,” said Kostic, a Bosnian Serb who experienced the conflict firsthand. “This [story] could be applied to that region, but equally can be applied worldwide.” Marjanovic, a Bosnian Muslim, recounted her favorite moment being her childhood friend’s reaction to seeing the film for the first time. “Her reaction was so interesting, because she came up and said, ‘I never really understood what it was about … it’s all so confusing, such a complicated area and region, and for the first time, I actually understood what was going on,’ ” Marjanovic recalled. Check out everything we’ve got on “In the Land of Blood and Honey.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

LMFAO’s ‘Party Rock Anthem’ A ‘Big Thing’ In 2011

‘I think for some of the critics, being #1 for six weeks in a row on the Billboard, people said, ‘Now this is a real thing,’ ‘ Redfoo tells MTV News. By Christina Garibaldi LMFAO’s Redfoo Photo: MTV News To say 2011 has been a big year for LMFAO is an understatement. They released their second album, Sorry for Party Rocking, in June, and from that album came the fist-pumping megahit “Party Rock Anthem.” The #1 song, from the electro-pop duo of Redfoo and SkyBlu, got all music genres (and dancing hamsters) to band together for some excessive party rocking. “Party Rock Anthem” achieved serious success in 2011, staying at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for six straight weeks and becoming the seventh song to spend at least 25 weeks in the top 10. It also came in at the #2 for the best-selling single of the year on iTunes, topped only by Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep.” The video for “Party Rock Anthem” caused a movement all its own, showing everyone how to shuffle and garnering more than 314 million YouTube views. Now they’re outdoing themselves with their latest single, “Sexy and I Know It,” which has reached #1 on the iTunes chart. MTV News caught up with Redfoo at Z100’s Jingle Ball concert on Friday, and he explained how the success of their chart-topping single has had such an impact on their career. “I think it just brought us into the households via the video, and it just got everybody more into dance music, because now they can shuffle, and so it was just a big thing.” Redfoo said. “I think for some of the critics, being #1 for six weeks in a row on the Billboard, people said, ‘Now this is a real thing.’ ” LMFAO don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. They will ring in the new year along with Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj in New York’s Times Square for the 40th annual “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.” What did you think of LMFAO’s big year? Republican Candidates Use “Nasty” Newt Gingrich’s Past Dirty Doggery To Knock Him Out That Number One Spot

Now that he’s become “Most Likely To Win The Republican Presidential Nomination,” Newt Gingrich is his party’s most hated. And it showed during the GOP’s debate last night. With only three weeks remaining before the Iowa caucuses open the Republican nominating contest, Mitt Romney raised questions about Mr. Gingrich’s temperament, saying that by making a claim in a recent interview that the Palestinians were an “invented people,” Mr. Gingrich had thrown “incendiary words into a place which is a boiling pot.” Mr. Gingrich took fire for most of the evening, at many points seeming to relish his new role as the leader in the field. He kept his sense of humor and his calm, even as he delivered several attacks of his own, particularly against Mr. Romney. But when the question of his two divorces and acknowledged extramarital affairs were implicitly raised, Mr. Gingrich listened as his opponents pointedly highlighted their long marriages. He conceded that voters would need to make up their own minds. “I think people have to render judgment,” Mr. Gingrich said. “In my case, I said up front openly, I’ve made mistakes at times. I’ve had to go to God for forgiveness. I’ve had to seek reconciliation.” In other words, if that’s all these other republicans have, they might as well tap out now. Most of them are starting to anyway… Source
