Leonard Myers Dies; Former New England Patriot Was 38

Sad news out of the sports world today, as former NFL cornerback Leonard Myers has passed away at the age of 38. Reports of Myers’ death were confirmed by TMZ just moments ago. Myers played his rookie season with the New England Patriots in 2001, the year that a young Tom Brady led the team to a Super Bowl victory over the St. Louis Rams. Myers went on to play for the New Orleans Saints, New York Jets, and Detroit Lions, but he would never again experience the sort of on-field success he enjoyed in that first year in New England. Myers experienced a string of bad luck after leaving football in 2005, following a brief sojourn in the CFL. That same year, he made headlines for selling his Super Bowl ring on eBay for $32,600. Myers had reportedly been battling cancer for several years at the time of his death. Before being drafter by the Patriots, Myers made a name for himself at the Univesrity of Miami as the team’s standout defensive back. A three-year starter for the Canes, Myers aided in the program’s historic rebound. The team went 5-6 his freshman year and 11-1 his senior year. Sadly, Myers would not experience the same level of success in the pros. In interviews, he often expressed his frustration with the Patriots coaching staff, who decided at the last minute to deactivate him prior to Super Bowl XXXVI. Myers says he was told he would start in the game, and it wasn’t until pregame warm-ups that Bill Belichick and company decided to remove him from the roster in favor of activating another offensive lineman. Those who knew Myers best say his disappointment at not realizing his boyhood dream of being able to take the field at the Super Bowl lingered for the rest of his days.  Most recently, Myers worked as he wide receivers coach at New Mexico Highlands University in 2015. Today, both Patriots and Hurricanes football fans are mourning Myers on social media. Though he may not have distinguished himself in the highly competitive world of the NFL, fans and teammates say his spirit and cn-do attitude made him a player they’ll never forget. These tweets demonstrate that apparently not only is Chris Long an incredible athlete, he’s also very FUNNY and an outstanding human. Do you agree with Long and other Patriots who have elected not to visit the White House? Do you think the players who do plan to attend should be ashamed?

Ben Affleck on F Bomb-Filled Interview: #SorryNotSorry!

Ben Affleck is really f-cking angry at the NFL over suspending Tom Brady for four games . And he doesn’t give a flying f-ck who knows it. On Wednesday night, Affleck appeared as a guest on the premiere episode of Any Given Wednesday. Sitting across from host Bill Simmons, Affleck was asked about the scandal known as Deflategate, a topic that just won’t go away for some reason. After initially having his suspension (for allegedly inflating footballs over league-mandated levels) overturned by a judge last season, Brady will have to sit out the opening quartet of games for the Patriots this fall. Many familiar with the case believe Commissioner Roger Goodell is on some sort of witch hunt against the star quarterback. And you can definitely count Affleck as being in this group. “Deflategate is the ultimate bullsh-t f-cking outrage of sports,” Affleck seethed to open the segment. He then went on to drop about 18 F Bombs over the course of the interview. “They haven’t done anything to address this crisis of domestic violence in the NFL, but the f-cking football better not be eight percent lighter,” Affleck said to Simmons, a fellow Boston native. He added: “If the NFL really knew how to test for steroids, there’d be no f-cking NFL.” Ben Affleck RANTS Against Deflategate (NSFW ALERT!) Check out the full interview above and perhaps you’ll be able to understand why some out there think Affleck was drunk for the Q&A. The guy sounds off his rocker! But Affleck said in a follow-up Tweet that he was simply fired up about a subject close to his heart. And he ain’t sorry! “For those of you keeping score at home, I gave exactly 18 f*cks about my Pats,” Affleck Tweeted on Thursday. “Upon reflection, 12 probably would have been sufficient. “We Boston fans have always been known for our subtlety. One of my favorite interviews; hope you get to see the entire episode. #GoPats.” Simmons also had the back of his fellow fan. “BTW – we taped AGW in the late-AM, Ben got fired up about DeflateGate during the convo, that’s it,” the former ESPN employee Tweeted, adding: “We Boston fans have always been known for our subtlety. One of my favorite interviews; hope you get to see the entire episode. #GoPats.” What do you think? Was Affleck, who has some mean things to say about Jennifer Garner , totally wasted? Or it Deflategate an absurd enough topic that it’s easy to understand how someone can be sober and still be this angry over it?

Tom Brady: NFL Upholds Suspension, Accuses QB of Destroying Evidence

Good news for fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Buffalo Bills, Jacksonville Jaguars and Dallas Cowboys: Your teams won’t have to worry about facing a title-defending Tom Brady early in the 2015 NFL season. (Although frankly, we doubt that’ll save you, Jacksonville.) NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has decided to uphold Brady’s four-game suspension that was handed down as a result of the quarterback’s alleged role in last year’s DeflateGate scandal . Brady and the Patriots have appealed, and even level-headed modern-day Solomon  Donald Trump believes Brady was treated unfairly , but in a move that’s surprised many, the league is sticking with its initial decision. In a statement released today, the NFL stated that one of the reasons it’s upholding the suspension is the belief that Brady intentionally concealed evidence by destroying a cell phone that was requested by investigators. “At the hearing, Mr. Brady testified that it is his practice to destroy (or to give to his assistant to destroy) his cellphone and SIM cards when he gets a new cell phone,” the statement reads. Of course, this is a common practice among public figures; the phone was destroyed before investigators requested it, and there’s no league rule against destruction of personal property. So needless to say, the appeal process is far from over, and the league will now likely face off against Brady and NFLPA in court. Let’s hope it ends better than the last time a Patriot went to court .

Bae Beef: Russell Wilson Reveals What Caused The First Fight Between Him And Ciara

Russell Wilson Reveals The Subject Of The First Fight Between Himself And Ciara Via Complex Ciara might be dating Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson right now. But back in January, the R&B singer took to Instagram and insinuated that her favorite NFL quarterback was Tom Brady. Shortly after the Patriots beat the Ravens to advance to the AFC Championship Game, Ci-Ci posted a video to IG and proclaimed that she would rep Brady “all day, every day” in it Wilson appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night and, while most of the interview featured him giving bland answers about his current contract situation and his baseball career, Jimmy Kimmel managed to get a little bit of a reaction out of him when he played Ciara’s video. Wilson laughed when Kimmel played it before admitting that he hadn’t seen the clip until recently. “That was our first argument,” Wilson said. “I saw that about a week ago.” Wilson also revealed that Ciara offered up a pretty lame excuse for why she made the video when he asked her about it. “Her response was, the following week she was cheering for the Seattle Seahawks and that she was rooting for us the whole time,” he said. “I don’t know.” Ratchet Take: Go #Patriots!! #Tombrady All Day Er Day

Woman’s Obituary Claims Tom Brady is Innocent

A Massachusetts woman has used her own obituary to stand up for Tom Brady. According to Patricia M. Shone of Auburn, Massachusetts, Tom Brady is innocent of any involvement in the now-infamous “Deflategate. ” The obituary says that Shone died on Monday with her family by her side.  It also mentions that the 72-year-old liked scrapbooking, weekly card night, and spending time with her family. And it says… “She would also like us to set the record straight for her. Brady is innocent!!” We aren’t sure if we agree, with Patricia.  May she rest in peace. Tom Brady was accused of deflating balls before the AFC Championship game, won by the Patriots en route to the Super Bowl title two weeks later. After an NFL investigation by Tom Wells found that the footballs were in fact deflated, and that the star knew it; Brady was suspended for four games. The New England Patriots were also fined $1 million and docked a pair of draft picks, although they still won their fourth NFL championship. In retrospect, the league could have saved a ton of time and money, had Wells simply consulted Patricia before she died.  View Slideshow: 16 Scandalous Sports Stories
