Robert Pattinson Says Playing Reese Witherspoon’s Love Interest Was ‘Bizarre’

Pattinson had been cast as his ‘Water for Elephants’ co-star’s son in 2004’s ‘Vanity Fair.’ By Jocelyn Vena Robert Pattinson on the “Today” show on Monday Photo: NBC On Friday, Robert Pattinson is running away and joining the circus. He stars as Reese Witherspoon’s love interest in the romantic drama “Water for Elephants.” And while this time around they’re playing lovers, in the past, Pattinson has played Witherspoon’s son. “It is very bizarre,” he said of the casting on the “Today” show on Monday (April 18). “I think that’s kind of bizarre [that] they cast me as her son,” he added, referring to the 2004 flick “Vanity Fair.” His part was later cut. In the film, Pattinson’s character joins the circus after his parents are killed in a car accident. But in real life, the “Twilight” star never romanticized about a life under the big top. “Running away and joining the circus? [No], the first time I went to the circus somebody died,” he recalled. “One of the clowns died; the joke car exploded. It was terrifying.” Pattinson, however, does have a more romantic view of the time period in which the film takes place. “I think that period, the ’30s, was the most exciting; the end of the Wild West,” he explained. “I always found it kind of interesting and then it turned into white picket fences.” He plays a veterinarian in the film, and he admits that while the old Hollywood maxim is “Never work with children or animals,” Pattinson sort of lives by the opposite. “I think it’s so much better. I like working with kids. I like working with animals,” he said, sharing one warning for fans: “The zebras are the ones to watch out for; always avoid zebras.” Pattinson hopes that as his career chugs along, he’ll still be able to get viewers in the seats, even in a post-“Twilight” world. “Who knows? I mean, you just kind of can’t predict what an audience feels,” he said. “I guess if you keep doing what you like doing, hopefully then one other person in the world will want to watch them.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Water for Elephants.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Robert Pattinson Says End Of ‘Breaking Dawn’ Shoot Was ‘An Anticlimax’

‘By the end of it, I think everyone was just like, ‘Ahhh, get me out!’ he says on ‘Regis and Kelly.’ By Eric Ditzian Robert Pattinson on “Live! With Regis and Kelly” on Monday Photo: ABC More than three years after he first stepped in front of the cameras as a golden-eyed vampire, Robert Pattinson wrapped production late last week on the “Twilight” franchise following the completion of the two parts of “Breaking Dawn.” So what did the cast and crew do to celebrate the end of a series that has thus far grossed almost $1.8 billion worldwide? Not much at all, it turns out. “It was a bit of an anticlimax. I finished on a night shoot and then flew right here,” Pattinson said Monday (April 18) morning on “Live! With Regis and Kelly.” “It was a very long shoot and we were working on it for eight months and it was hard. By the end of it, I think everyone was just like, ‘Ahhh, get me out!’ ” RPattz departed the British Columbia set and headed to New York for Sunday’s red-carpet premiere of “Water for Elephants,” his upcoming romantic drama co-starring Reese Witherspoon. That’s where MTV News caught up with both stars, during a live-stream interview outside the Ziegfeld Theatre. The next morning, Pattinson was up early and making the talk-show rounds, first on “Today” and then on “Regis and Kelly,” where guest host Seth Meyers not only asked the actor about his films but wondered if he’d ever appear on “Saturday Night Live.” “It’s terrifying. I couldn’t imagine,” Pattinson laughed, adding that he doesn’t consider himself funny. That sentiment jibes with what RPattz has previously told us about hosting the sketch comedy show. So despite online petitions and on-air pleas from “SNL” castmembers themselves, it doesn’t seem likely that Pattinson is going to take on hosting duties anytime soon. But you never know what’s in store for the guy now that his vampire franchise has come to a close. Even Pattinson joked that he’s got no idea what his future holds. “I don’t know who I am anymore,” he cracked. “I still haven’t really understood what it is not to be doing ‘Twilight’ movies every three months.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” and “Water for Elephants.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Actress talks to MTV News about fans’ dedication to co-star Robert Pattinson. While filming “Water for Elephants” in Tennessee last year, the Oscar-winning actress recalled to MTV News, “The women lining up outside the set — it was just unbelievable — till 5 o’clock in the morning waiting to just glimpse him.” So it must have felt a bit like d

Robert Pattinson Describes Wrapping ‘Breaking Dawn’ At ‘Water For Elephants’ Premiere

‘It was a mad rush to get here,’ actor tells MTV News. By Aly Semigran, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon at the New York premiere of “Water For Elephants” Photo: Matt Harper/ MTV News The stage was set on Sunday (April 17) on a beautiful spring evening in New York for the world premiere of “Water for Elephants.” The stars of director Francis Lawrence’s highly anticipated period drama, adapted from Sara Gruen’s best-selling book of the same name, arrived at the famed Ziegfeld Theatre to debut their film and greet hundreds of excited fans. Early to arrive at the premiere of “Water for Elephants” — which streamed live on MTV.com — were castmembers such as Christoph Waltz and Hal Holbrook. Of course, no one was a bigger draw than the film’s leading man, Robert Pattinson. Though, truth be told, many on the red carpet were hoping to get a glimpse of his larger-than-life co-star, Tai the elephant . No stranger to the mass hysteria he brings everywhere, Pattinson, looking dapper in a suit and tie, signed autographs and posed for pictures with the fans lined up across the even-busier-than-usual Manhattan street, many of whom had waited outside in rainy weather the day before. After RPattz spent ample time with frenzied fans, he — alongside leading lady (and newlywed) Reese Witherspoon — found a moment to chat with MTV News on the red carpet. When asked if this premiere felt different from the “Twilight” series premieres, the actor said with a laugh, “Well, not that different.” But despite their enthusiasm for the 24-year-old star, it seems the “Water for Elephants” groupies have been much more subdued than the Twi-hards throughout the whole process. While many fans waited near the set throughout filming, hoping to catch a glimpse of him, Pattinson told us, “They weren’t very scream-y,” adding, “They were very nice fans.” The cries of the very vocal “Twilight” fans will no doubt be heard now that the franchise has completed wrapping. The actor — who also told us that glitzy red-carpet premieres like these can feel like work but still be “kinda fun” — revealed he was whisked away from the last day of filming “Breaking Dawn, Part 2” to make it to New York for his new film’s big night. Pattinson, who said he left the “Breaking Dawn” set in Vancouver around 1 a.m. on Sunday, told MTV, “It was a mad rush to get here.” It was so tight, in fact, that the superstar was still filming some of his very last scenes as Edward Cullen. Pattinson said that while he was being taken away to go to NYC, the “Breaking Dawn” crew was pleading, ” ‘Come on, we need, like, one more shot!’ ” Still, despite wrapping up “Breaking Dawn” and premiering “Water for Elephants” within just a matter of hours, Pattinson called the whole whirlwind experience “very exciting.” “Water for Elephants” arrives in theaters on Friday, April 22.
