Randy Jackson Says Replacing Simon Cowell Will Be ‘Tough’

‘I’m just gonna miss sitting next to him, learning from him,’ Jackson says of departing ‘American Idol’ judge. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Tim Kash Randy Jackson Photo: MTV News Simon Cowell is singing his swan song as one of the founding judges on “American Idol,” and fellow original judge Randy Jackson said he will miss the Brit, even if he can be a grouch sometimes. “Listen, he’s my best friend … one of my best friends in the world,” Jackson told MTV News last week at the season finale of “America’s Best Dance Crew,” which Jackson executive-produces. “The guy is

American Idol Recap: Tim Urban Doesn’t Suck!

Tim Urban is a very nice guy, with a great smile and an even better attitude. But, let’s face it: the singer isn’t really American Idol finalist matieral. Heck, he’s scarcely American Idol semifinalist material, only advancing to the top 24 of season nine after another contestant got disqualified. It’s difficult not to root for Urban, however. Which made his rendition of “All My Loving” so refreshing this week. Not only did Tim avoid another embarrassing critique at the hands of the judges, he actually finished in the top three! Well, THG’s top three at least. Here’s how we’d rank last night’s Beatles-inspired performances: Casey James : Taking a page from the solo John Lennon catalog, Kara’s former crush put on a tender, touching rendition of “Jealous Guy.” Crystal Bowersox : She played a didgeridoo for “Come Together.” Yes, that’s a wind instrument. And playing it on stage made us love Crystal even more. Tim Urban: Did this rendition remind anyone else of The Plain White T’s? Great work all around. Michael Lynche: We still can’t envision Big Mike winning it all. Accompanied by a mini orchestra on stage, though, Lynche made his heart show through again with “Eleanor Rigby.” Siobhan Magnus: Look at that outfit (below)! Such a unique contestant, with a sound that also ensures she’ll stand out. Went with “Across the Universe.” Lee DeWyze : The judges loved his confidence, but we didn’t think it was Lee’s best performance. It’s a difficult, well-known song to try and cover. Katie Stevens: Great vocals, didn’t seem too old for a change… but Katie still doesn’t do it for us. She did change “Hey Jude” and made it her own, but that’s not always a great thing. Andrew Garcia: Considered “corny” by the judges. Can we all forget his Paula Abdul rendition weeks ago and just admit that Garcia won’t be around much longer? Aaron Kelly: Sorry. You’re cute, but that isn’t enough to make this version of “The Long and Winding Road” remotely memorable. Who was your favorite performer of the evening? Caresse Henry, Madonna’s Former Manager, Found Dead

She also managed Ricky Martin, Jessica Simpson, Joss Stone and Paula Abdul. By Jocelyn Vena Madonna Photo: Valery Hache /Getty Images Madonna’s former manager, Caresse Henry, has died at age 44, CNN reports. Henry worked with Madonna for about a decade, up until 2004, and has also managed a number of other artists, including Ricky Martin, Jessica Simpson, Joss Stone, Paula Abdul and Andrew Dice Clay. She is survived by her two children, Honour Kristen Norman and Ava Caresse Hinojosa, who both live in Los Angeles. Madonna’s publicist, Liz Rosenberg, released a statement to CBS News explaining that Henry “died suddenly” in Irvine, California, where she lived, on Wednesday. Funeral services will be held April 9 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Church in Westwood, California. “Despite rumors to the contrary, the cause of death has not been determined and is currently under investigation,” the CBS statement continued. In a statement to CNN, Rosenberg said, “The family has requested that their privacy be respected during this difficult time.” Henry also reportedly worked as a personal assistant to Madonna, and she’s credited as an artistic manager and executive producer on Madonna: Drowned World Tour 2001. According to various reports, Henry and Madonna parted ways in 2004 after rumors spread that Madonna fired Henry due to the pop star’s faith in Kabbalah; at the time, it was also reported that Henry quit. Musician Jimmy Demers, who was managed by Henry, wrote a piece for the Huffington Post remembering his pal. “I’m not sure what details led her to this dark moment of hopelessness, and I’m not sure there was anything anyone could have done to save her,” he wrote in response to reports that Henry had committed suicide, which has not been confirmed.

Paula Abdul to Star in Flash Mob Dance Show?

Paula Abdul may be insane. As in actually not of sound mind. As week ago, we were talking about her hosting Star Search . That sounded like a good fit for the former American Idol judge, but she turned it down. To host a new reality show based around flash mob dancing. Seriously. EW sources confirm that the project, which is being produced by the folks behind The Biggest Loser , would feature Abdul and dancing god Kenny Ortega ( High School Musical, This Is It ) choreographing mass dances in public locations. Try to refrain from laughing out loud if you’re at work now. An NBC insider stresses that a deal is far from done, of course, so she could still flake. We sort of hope for her sake that she does. Paula Abdul may want to reach out and grab some common sense if she is seriously considering this new career “opportunity.” [Photo: PacificCoastNewsOnline.com]

Paula Abdul Reportedly In Talks For Flash Mob Dance Show

Show featuring Abdul and Kenny Ortega was pitched to NBC, sources say. By Joel Hanek Paula Abdul Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images While Paula Adbul fans miss seeing her behind the “American Idol” judges’ table this season, there seem to be plenty of industry folks scurrying to find the right way to bring her back to the small screen. The latest possibility, according to Entertainment Weekly, is an NBC dance competition show that would incorporate flash mobs. Flash mobs, for the uninitiated, are typically large, unannounced spectacles in public places that, while choreographed, lead the audience to believe there is an element of randomness and spontaneity for the routine. Unnamed sources told EW that Abdul would team up with fellow renowned choreographer Kenny Ortega , best known as the director of Disney’s “High School Musical” franchise as well as the helmer of Michael Jackson’s final opus, “This Is It.” Variety reports that 3 Ball, the producers of the hit reality-competition show “The Biggest Loser,” are behind the show pitch. Since leaving “American Idol” last year, Abdul has been rumored to have her name attached to many projects, but nothing has been confirmed. After the announcement that Simon Cowell would be leaving “American Idol” after this season to adapt an American version of his hit U.K. show “The X Factor,” many thought that Abdul would be a natural fit to judge the new singing competition. But there has been no official word on that front either. Most recently, reports surfaced last week that ABC had been in talks with Adbul to reboot the famous television franchise “Star Search” — a show on which artists like Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears had appeared as children. That story was never confirmed, and the singer allegedly passed on the project. Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.
