There Goes The Neighborhood: Real Estate Website Uses Racial Stereotypes To Help White People Find “Perfect Neighborhoods”

SMFH ! A website called Picket Report marketed as a new online research tool that helps home buyers find their “perfect neighborhood” has been forced to remove a controversial section which apparently racially stereotyped various neighborhoods: Picket Report offered the section as a way for househunters to discover more about areas they might like to live in, but was quickly accused of insensitivity owing to the race- and class-related descriptions it provided. The section was later removed from the Detroit-based start-up after an embarrassing article published on real estate website Curbed Detroit. When the zip code for Detroit’s poorest neighbourhood – 48208 – was plugged into the website, several shocking descriptions popped up. Neighbours in these areas were labelled things like ‘Soul Survivors – Older, down-scale African-Americans, singles, and single parents established in modest urban homes’ and ‘Cuidad [sic] Strivers – Mid-scale Hispanic families and single parents in gateway communities.’ The word for city in Spanish is actually spelled ‘Ciudad.’ Other social pariahs singled out were ‘Hard Times’ (‘Older, down-scale and ethnically-diverse singles typically concentrated in inner-city apartments’) and ‘Rolling The Dice’ (‘middle-aged, mid-scale income singles and divorced individuals in secondary cities’) WTF?! And you thought gentrification was bad. Source More On Bossip! Cheese So Hard… That Isht Cray! Arrest Made In 16-Year Old Phylicia Barnes Murder Case: Sister’s Boyfriend Is The Suspect?? [Video]

Arrest Made In Phylicia Barnes Murder Case And Sister’s Ex-Boyfriend In Custody As Suspect Someone’s locked up now for the murder of Phylicia Barnes: For nearly a decade, Michael Maurice Johnson dated the half-sister of Phylicia Barnes. He went along on family trips, and played basketball with their brother. He was like family, and considered Phylicia a “little sister,” relatives say. He was also the last person to see the girl alive in late December 2010. Now Baltimore prosecutors have charged him in the murder of the promising North Carolina teenager, whose nude body was found floating in the Susquehanna River one year ago this month. In announcing the charge Thursday, authorities said very little about the case against Johnson, 28. He faces one count of first-degree murder, and officials declined to say how or where Phylicia was killed. Johnson was arrested late Wednesday outside his apartment after police said he tried to run from officers. “This was an enormous collaborative effort by all agencies involved,” Baltimore State’s Attorney Gregg Bernstein said at a news conference, where he was flanked by city police and state troopers. “We hope it provides some measure of closure for the family.” Johnson, who does not appear to have a criminal record, had been repeatedly questioned since Phylicia’s disappearance, but defense attorney Russell Neverdon said Johnson continues to deny any involvement. Neverdon briefly met with his client Thursday at the Baltimore City Detention Center. “He told me, ‘I’m innocent. I didn’t do anything wrong. I will fight this to the very end,’” Neverdon said. After 16 months of investigating, prosecutors obtained the grand jury indictment two days after the former lead detective in Baltimore, Daniel Nicholson IV, was suspended amid allegations that he conducted a rogue investigation to search for his own daughter. The teen went missing from Baltimore County last Friday and was later found unharmed. Neverdon, during a news conference in his lower Charles Village office, said he believes that police expedited their case because of the troubles Nicholson faces, and that the single-count indictment shows their case remains circumstantial. “Police had Mr. Johnson in their sights from the first day,” Neverdon said, noting that his client met four times with homicide detectives and submitted a DNA sample for testing. Johnson’s relatives were questioned and his car was searched, the lawyer said. “The police made good on their promise,” Neverdon said. “They told him during one meeting that it was only a matter of time before they got him.” Bernstein said Thursday that the allegations against Nicholson — whose squad attended the news conference without him — are a “completely separate matter” and will “absolutely not” impact the case against Johnson. “If I thought for a moment that the alleged activity impacted the case, we wouldn’t have brought it,” Bernstein said. Phylicia, an honor student who was set to graduate early from high school, vanished on Dec. 28, 2010, from the Reisterstown Road apartment of her half-sister Deena, while visiting from Monroe, N.C. Deena has said she met Phylicia about 10 years ago at a family reunion in Baltimore, and they reconnected about three years ago on Facebook. Phylicia visited Baltimore several times, and hoped to attend Towson University. Police have described the apartment as a “college house” that wasn’t always secured and said that up to a dozen people were in and out of it over the holidays. Phylicia’s mother, Janice Sallis-Mustafa, has accused the half-sister of condoning alcohol use and allowing men to come and go at the apartment. Baltimore Sun More On Bossip! ‘American Idol’ Report Card: Joshua Ledet Soars Again, Hollie Cavanagh Climbs

The top six tackled Queen songs and their own picks; here’s how they did. By Gil Kaufman Joshua Ledet performs on “American Idol” Photo: FOX It was clear from the opening medley on Wednesday night that Queen night was going to be a struggle for some “American Idol” top six. Ironically, it was the three leading contenders
, Joshua Ledet, Skylar Laine and Jessica Sanchez who seemed most uncomfortable, which did note bode well for the evening. With the only real sort of-rocker, Colton Dixon
, booted last week, that meant it was do-or-die time for anyone hoping to make it to next months’ finale. And despite a shaky start, Ledet may have punched his card to the finale, where he is likely to face slow-and-steady Phillip Phillips, while Sanchez and Laine just kind of coasted. Despite what Steven and Jennifer said time-and-again, none of these performances are likely to go into the “Idol” all-time vault, but a decent night all around. So, who deserves a coronation? Who fell down and broke their crown? Read on for our “American Idol” report card! Joshua Ledet : Once again, Ledet nailed it, taking a song that could have seriously tripped him up and wrestling it to the ground with some old-school soul. The bass-slapping Sam Cooke run through “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” was crazy good and the vintage mic was a real nice touch. This dude’s got it so in the bag that he sang an obscure India.Arie song, “Ready For Love” that features the lyric “respects the spirit world,” and he still killed it (softly). The only way this guy doesn’t make it to the finale is if his voicebox has a run-in with Metta World Peace’s elbow. A Jessica Sanchez : “Bohemian Rhapsody?” Wow, really Bebe? The Polly Pocket diva picked the dragon slayer and, well, brought a dagger to a sword fight. The first part sounded like a Beyonc

Nicki Minaj to Twitter: Good F-cking Bye!

Twitter, you no longer have Nicki Minaj to kick around. On Sunday, following an exchange with a fansite that leaked one of her singles online, the hip hop star shut down her account with a very simple message: Like seriously, its but so much a person can take. Good f-cking bye.” Minaj had been one of the most popular celebrities on Twitter, amassing more followers than Oprah. With this move, though, she’s only the latest in a long line of stars to at least take a break from that online world. Chris Brown has deleted his account on more than one occasion, while John Mayer, Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato have all dropped out here and there, as well. All eventually returned, however. Will Nicki do the same? Only time, and fan pressure, will tell! [Photo: WENN.com]

In 1998, when he created and produced the Donny & Marie talk show, I realized that was truly the hardest working man in show biz. And, now in 2012, I will always remember him as one of the most honorable men in show business. Thank you, Dick, for every great way you encouraged me in my career. You are loved.” President Barack Obama: “With ‘American Bandstand,’ he introduced decades’ worth of viewers to the music of our times. He reshaped the television landscape forever as a creative and innovative producer. And, of course, for 40 years, we welcomed him into our homes to ring in the New Year. But more important than his groundbreaking achievements was the way he made us feel — as young and vibrant and optimistic as he was. As we say a final `so long’ to Dick Clark, America’s oldest teenager, our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends — which number far more than he knew.”

My name is Lexi and I’m 13. I never thought that I would…

My name is Lexi and I’m 13. I never thought that I would ever write a B ieber Experience but here it goes! I found out that Justin was going to be in Florida at a school near my house due to Pencils of Promise. I then told my mom and she said I couldn’t go. The next day I convinced my mom and she finally said yes! I went outside of the school at around 12 and waited until 1:30pm. Since 1:00pm, everyone was saying, “That’s Justin” or “Maybe thats him.” Then finally this gold GMC truck came and someone put down one of the windows. Then everyone started to scream and run. I was right IN FRONT of Justin! As soon as I got there, he held my hand. He didn’t say anything to me but he just held my hand! I was the closest to him! He then asked, “Does anyone want an autograph?” Obviously everyone screamed! He grabbed my Sharpie and he was still holding my hand at the same time. Then he dropped the Sharpie! He then said, “Sorry no autographs” and I saw that Pattie as staring at me! I was star-stuck. I could say a word other than, “OMB! OMB!” All of a sudden Moshe started to drive. We all chased the car. My friend and I cut through the grass and we got to the other side first. Everyone saw me crying and so did Justin, but since he was in a rush, he couldn’t do anything! Then I screamed “Justin” and did he the peace sign! Then all of the Beliebers were crying and we were all comforting each other. We were all exchanging pictures and everything! As soon as we got back to the front again, I started to cry even more. I ran to my mom and thanked her! All the news stations and newspapers came and interviewed us. I was all over the TV. My Bieber Experience was unreal! I think I’m dreaming still thinking about it. He was even hotter in person, he is amazing! Thank you Justin for making my dream come true! To all of the Beliebers who haven’t met him yet, your day will come and cherish every moment! -@ImmaBelieber1JB View original post here: My name is Lexi and I’m 13. I never thought that I would…
