For Discussion: Slim Thug Supports Abortion Saying, “It Ain’t Good To Have A Baby And Not Be With The Father,” Is He Wrong?

Slim Thug Book “How To Survive In A Recession” Includes A Chapter Supporting Abortion We’re not saying rappers aren’t allowed to take a crack at social commentary, but let’s face it — this isn’t Slim Thug’s strong suit. Slim stopped by 97.9 in his hometown of Houston to discuss his latest project — a book called “How To Survive In A Recession.” The book — which consults a grand total of 0 financial experts, draws on Slim’s personal experience as a person who is “cheap.” And along with all his thoughts on how to save up, he also has a full chapter devoted to the topic of “Abortion.” When H-town radio host JJ asked him what that chapter had to do with everything else in the book he said “I think abortions is necessary on some occasions.” Here’s the quote that has been floating around from the book: People are against abortion, but I think it ain’t good to have a baby and not be with the father. My mother, she took care of me but she worked 7 days a week, 12 hours a day and I seen how much of a struggle it was. It was so hard coming up, I don’t even know who my daddy is….So, I don’t like that. A kid deserves both parents in the home, so if you ain’t gon be with somebody i don’t think you need to have a kid with them….even though I got 3 baby mommas.. (laughs)….it ain’t easy and it ain’t right …but we good. The book also includes quotes from Slim Thug saying: “I ain’t saying wait 3 or 4 months. If it’s immediate, it’s like birth control to me.” While we agree that it’s preferable to raise a child with both of his and her parents, do you think Slim’s comments could be taken to mean that women who don’t have a partner should not be parents and should look to abortion as a means to handle any and all unwanted pregnancies? Do you have a problem with what Slim Thug is saying or do you agree with him? And how should his kids feel about his opinion since he’s not with their mothers? Does Slim Thug just need to have a seat and stop talking about social issues? Y’all remember what he had to say about black women a few years ago, right? SMH. Source Instagram

Conor Kennedy and Taylor Swift: Totally Dating!

Conor Kennedy may need to be on the lookout for future songs penned in his dishonor… because the 18-year old son of Robert Kennedy Jr. and Mary Kennedy is totally dating Taylor Swift! Consider the evidence: On July 25, Swift and Kennedy were spotted chowing down pizza in Mount Kisco, New York, walking out of the establishment”hand in hand,” according to a People Magazine source. A few days later, they dined with friends in Cape Cod, with Taylor reportedly cozying up to Conor and “smiling a lot,” onlookers say. Ironically, Swift had previously been linked to Patrick Schwarzenegger , a distant relative of Conor’s, after photos captured her hanging out with Arnold’s son during July 4 weekend. But she was actually spending time over that holiday with Kennedy. On December 3, meanwhile, the connections will continue: Swift will be honored by the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights due to her commitment to social change, notably her work against bullying and LGBT discrimination. [Photo: WENN.com]

Swiss Soccer Player Booted From Olympic Games After Calling South Koreans A “Bunch Of Mongoloids” On Twitter!

Another one bites the dust… Swiss Olympic Soccer Player Sent Home After Racist Tweets About South Koreans Less than one week after after a female Greek Olympian was dismissed from the games, Swiss Soccer Player Michel Morganella was sent packing for racial slurs he used in a tweet after a loss to the South Korean team. Translated from French, Morganella’s tweet said he wanted to beat up South Koreans, that they should “burn” and that they were a “bunch of mongoloids.” Last week, Greek triple jumper Voula Papachristou, a right-wing political supporter, was expelled by Greek athletic officials after she mocked African immigrants. Offensive remarks are in breach of the International Olympic Committee’s code of ethics. In Morganella’s case, he “discriminated against, insulted and violated the dignity” of the South Korean team, as well as the nation’s citizens, Swiss committee chief Gian Gilli said Monday in a statement at a news conference. Morganella later apologized through a statement released by Gilli: The 23-year-old player later released a contrite statement through Swiss Olympic. “I am sincerely sorry for the people of South Korea, for the players, but equally for the Swiss delegation and Swiss football in general. It’s clear that I’m accepting the consequences”. “After the disappointing result and the reaction from Korea that followed, I made a huge error,” Morganella added. Gilli said the player had been “provoked” by comments sent to his Twitter account after the match. Still, the Swiss team leader acknowledged that Morganella had to be sent home under the terms of the International Olympic Committee’s code of conduct, which requires athletes to show mutual respect. “In this case, we felt we have no alternative,” Gilli said. This jerk really has no excuse, especially since everyone already saw that Greek chick kick rocks last week. SMH. Ho Sit Down. Source Source2 WENN

For Discussion: NAACP Creates 61-Page HIV And AIDS Manual For Black Church Leaders To Share With Their Congregations

NAACP Creates HIV Manual for Black Churches Houston pastor Timothy W. Sloan has felt for years that he needed to talk about HIV and AIDS with his congregation . But he worried the 3,000 mostly African-American parishioners at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Humble, Texas, could be offended and leave the church or curtail their giving. “On a scale of 1 to 10, it was a 6,” he said of his concerns. Then, a year and a half ago, he joined a group of pastors organized by the NAACP to write a manual for church leaders like himself on talking to their congregations about a disease that has a disproportionate effect on the black community. Sloan spoke to his congregation about the issue soon after. They surprised him with a standing ovation. Now, Sloan hopes others can use the manual he helped create to talk to their congregations. This month, the NAACP released it and a 61-page activity manual at the group’s convention in Texas. Shavon Arline-Bradley, the director of health programs for the NAACP, who helped oversee the manual’s creation, said it makes sense for the nation’s largest civil rights organization to be involved in the discussion of HIV and AIDS. “People look at us as just civil rights, and what they’re missing is that health is one of the most pressing civil rights issues of our time,” Arline-Bradley said. Religious leaders who helped with the manual said black churches have been reluctant to talk about the disease. That’s in part because the topic is wrapped up with sex and homosexuality, often taboo topics in the church. “Sex is not something church people like to talk about. It’s something they like to do,” said the Rev. Joseph Smith, the assistant to the pastor of the Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Va., and one of the people who worked on the manual. Despite the squeamishness, the NAACP said black churches can play a role in combating the alarming impact of HIV on the black community. African-Americans make up almost half of all new HIV infections, and blacks are less likely to get treatment and more likely to die of complications from AIDS than any other race. The guides suggest pastors talk about HIV in sermons, connect their churches with groups that serve people with HIV, promote safe sex and access to condoms, and organize church-based HIV screening drives. The manual also includes facts about the disease and passages from the Bible to serve as inspiration. Discuss… Source

The Side-Eye: Frank Ocean Called The “Gay Rosa Parks” For Coming Out the Closet

Frank Ocean ’s coming out of the closet continues to be one of the most talked about subjects in music. And although many in the African American community are happy that Frank has decided to be honest about his sexual preference, many are outraged about the comments of one writer who has labeled Frank as the gay Rosa Parks and leader of music artists coming out of the closet. The writer claims: …Rosa Parks, who was down with the NAACP, was heralded as a heroine of the Civil Rights Movement for her unwillingness to give up her bus seat to a White man as she rested on her weary feet on that fate-filled day in a 1955 Alabama. But her move was a well-timed act as well, as it was a supremely strategic move. Enter Claudette Colvin. Before Rosa Parks, there was Claudette Colvin. Colvin was a 15-year-old G from what I’ve gathered. She was a young, scrappy, and militant kid when she refused to give up her seat to a White person, a full nine months before her elder counterpart, Parks. Colvin was studying the injustices that were going on in 1955, analyzing the life of Black leaders and was ready for whatever was to come. In her 2009 book, Claudette Colvin: Twice Toward Justice, she explained why Parks was selected. To NPR, she said, “Her skin texture was the kind that people associate with the middle class. She fit that profile.” Parks was also the secretary for the NAACP and had the backing of the local chapter to start the boycott that would cripple the racist busing system. So, Frank Ocean is the Gay Hip-Hop Movement’s Rosa Parks, whether dissonant voices admit it or not. Rosa Parks wasn’t the first to get arrested for not giving up her seat. But, she was the first, some say, to fit an ideal that matched the delicate needs of the Dr. Martin Luther King-led push for equal rights. And, like Parks, Ocean is relatively safe, whereas Colvin was a militant that eventually relocated to Harlem in the midst of a cultural revolution living among the likes of Malcolm X We’re not too sure about this comparison. Why does Frank even have to be the “gay Rosa Parks?” Can’t he just be black man, who’s gay who just got tired of lying about who he was to other people? Do you think Frank’s decision to come out the closet lends itself to the Civil Rights Movement? Source

On Sunday the 15th of July, I met and hugged Justin. I’ve…

On Sunday the 15th of July, I met and hugged Justin. I’ve waited so long to be able to do this. Unfortunately I didnt get a photo with him but the photo of him walking is the one I took after he hugged me. I couldn’t get a photo because there were too many girls and he was going back to eat his lunch.  My 2 friends and I went up to Melbourne hoping to see him, I never actually thought we would met him though. Originally we were going to the Langham Hotel but we got a call from our friend who was at the airport saying he changed to the Olsen Hotel . She was told by Channel 7. When we got there, there was only about 5 other beliebers. We waited about 30 minutes until he arrived. We saw his car drive in but we couldn’t see him because the windows were very tinted. We started singing his songs out the front for about half an hour and then we saw Moshe. We asked if he could come down and see us but he said he was sleeping. We were waiting out the front and then a car pulled up and Scrappy got out. He was so funny. Then another car came and out came Kenny, Dan and Alfredo. THEY WERE SO NICE , all of them and Alfredo was adorable. We got photos with them all. We couldn’t believe we met Justin’s crew! We also saw Alison, his dancers a couple of other people and Scooter but he didnt get out of the car. Then heaps of girls started arriving.. LIKE HEAPS. Then we went into the restaurant to get something to eat and drink becasue we hadn’t eaten all day . After we went in, they locked the doors, we didnt know why though. All of Justin’s crew was sitting like a couple tables away from us. 10 minutes later, JUSTIN AND SELENA came down. We all got up and ran over but Kenny told us to go away which was fair enough. He was so beautiful, he looks much older in person too. We were all like crying and hyperventilating at our table. Then he got up to meet some of the fans outside. I went through the lobby and was waiting there for him to come back in and when he did, he walked staright past me. I like jumped on him and put my arms around him and he put his around me too. I seriously didn’t know what was happening. Then we went back to the reatruant and just sat there drinking our hot chocolates staring at him. It was the best say of my life. I never thought this would happen to me, honestly and if you haven’t met Justin, don’t give up. – @ChillsWithBiebs Originally posted here: On Sunday the 15th of July, I met and hugged Justin. I’ve…

Voula Papachristou: Booted from Greek Olympic Team for Racist Joke

In fewer than 140 characters, the 2012 Olympic dreams of Voula Papachristou have been dashed. Greece’s triple-jump champion has actually been removed from her country’s national team just days prior to the Opening Ceremony in London because she posted the following Tweet on July 22: “With so many Africans in Greece .. At least the mosquitoes of West Nile .. will eat homemade food!” With backlash building and rebuke of this tasteless joke strong, Greece has announced that Papachristou will not compete at the Games due to “statements contrary to the values and ideas of the Olympic movement.” She has since issued her own statement/apology: I would like to express my heartfelt apologies for the unfortunate and tasteless joke I published on my personal Twitter account. I am very sorry and ashamed for the negative responses I triggered, since I never wanted to offend anyone, or to encroach human rights. My dream is connected to the Olympic Games and I could not possibly participate if I did not respect their values. Therefore, I could never believe in discrimination between human beings and races. I would like to apologize to all my friends and fellow athletes, who I may have insulted or shamed, the National Team, as well as the people and companies who support my athletic career. Finally, I would like to apologize to my coach and my family. Do you think this was a proper punishment for Papachristou?
