Who would have ever of thought that tights with the feet cut out would become a billion dollar idea?! A product promising to help people look thin has given its inventor a big fat wallet. Sara Blakely, the founder of ubiquitous shapewear company Spanx, debuts on one of the covers of Forbes’ new Billionaires issue as the youngest self-made woman to earn the big “B” title at age 41. The entrepreneur who failed her LSATs twice and couldn’t even get a job playing Goofy at Disney has come a long way. Via HuffingtonPost reports : Florida native Blakely started her first business in 1990: a babysitters’ club. But Spanx famously began when Blakely, at age 27, cut the feet off a pair of pantyhose to wear under her cream-colored slacks for their figure-flattering properties. “I needed an undergarment that didn’t exist,” she told Forbes. While holding down a day job, Blakely worked tirelessly to build her Spanx empire, shipping items in the wee hours of the morning and aggressively approaching Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus to start stocking her products. Today, Spanx is run by a team of 125 and sells 200 products in 11,500 stores in 40 countries. Blakely has also netted a variety of celebrity fans, including Octavia Spencer, who says she wears three layered pairs on the red carpet, and Melissa McCarthy, whose pair got her into a particularly embarrassing moment. Hey everybody. My name is Angeliesse and I am 15 years old. Let me just start off by saying that I never thought that I would be able to get a picture with Justin. I had seen him at many different events before, but a picture with him just seemed impossible. To everyone who is losing hope about getting to meet Justin, DON’T. You HAVE to believe because it CAN happen. Okay, so mybieberexperience started on February 12, 2012 when I had found out that Justin was in NYC . I was a little scared about going to see him because the last time I had went to one of his events, I got trampled on and I now need surgery on my back. I thought to myself, “It’s worth it if you get to see Justin” so I quickly became determined to see him. The next day my friends and I decided not to go to school and we went to Justin’s hotel. We got to the hotel at around 8am and an hour and a half later, we saw Justin’s Escalade come up and soon after Justin and Selena were walking out of the hotel. Selena quickly went into the car, but I was able to get a picture with Justin along with two other people. Before I got my picture, I said Hi to Moshe, who was holding Justin’s laptop that said ‘swag’ in big letters on the back of it . I told Justin I liked his laptop and he just smiled. Justin was in a bit of a rush so after I got my picture with him, he had to go into the car. While he was in the car, this guy kept on banging on the window. Justin opened the door and said, “Stop it!” , but the guy kept on annoying him, so Justin once again opened the door and said, “Can you just stop it!” This annoying dude did not respect any of Justin’s wishes so finally Justin opened the door again and said, “Go away!” Everyone knew that this guy was making Justin mad, so my friend Emily decided to make the guy stop by pushing him and said, “JUSTIN SAID STOP, ALRIGHT!” Hopefully Justin saw because the guy actually stopped after that. What can I say? BELIEBERS GO HARD! My friend Reiko, Emily and Ryan hadn’t gotten their picture, and I wanted to see Justin again so I decided to stay outside with them for the rest of the day. While we were waiting for Justin, Moshe came out, and he was SO CUTE! We asked him where Justin was and he said, “Justin is working” with his cute little accent. At 1 o’clock, Allison came out of a car, and began to walk her dog , we all noticed her and it was kind of funny because she looked a little scared of us at first, but we didn’t want to bother her, so we just said was Hi and then I also said that her dog was cute and she said Thank You. At around 2:30, we saw Justin’s car come and Justin came out, but he was on the phone and wasn’t able to take pictures with any of us but he said, “I’ll be out later”. At 3:30 we saw Kenny who was SUCH a sweetie pie! I asked him for a picture and he put his arm around me while my friend Reiko took the picture. Afterwards I said, “Kenny! You smell so good!” and he mouthed ‘thank you’ to me but he couldn’t really talk since he had his mouth wired (I assumed it was because of his surgery). At around 4 Moshe came out of Justin’s car with a box of pizza. Throughout the entire day we had all been arguing about how to pronounce his name, so I asked him, “Moshe! Can you just make a clarification here?! How do you pronounce your name?!” and he laughed and said, “You pronounce it Mo-she” and I said thanks and he went inside. At 4:30 Justin came out. I tried to get a second picture with him but I wasn’t able to get one because people were crowding him, and he even asked everyone to step back he said, “Can everyone please just step back. I’m claustrophobic”. Everyone moved back, and many girls were able to get their pictures. When he was done, he was rushed into his car. I quickly went up to the window of the car and put my hand up and started waiving. Justin who was now on the other side of the car, came to the side I was on, and put his hand to my hand and smiled. My heart melted. Later that day Justin also tweeted about the fans he had met that day, and just knowing that he was talking about me and my friends made me FREAK OUT. I did all of this with a back in need of surgery, and when I got home that day I was in so much pain, but thinking about how Justin looked at me, and how close I was to him made me feel better because this was literally the most happiest moments of my life, and was worth it all to me. For people who say Justin is rude to his fans, he is NOT. He is the sweetest person in the world, and he really cares about every single one of his fans. ‘I don’t like to be the center of attention anymore,’ she tells Elle U.K. By Jocelyn Vena Ashley Olsen on the April issue of Elle U.K. Photo: Elle UK/Alexei Hay While her little sister Elizabeth Olsen is currently Hollywood’s “It” girl, one half of the Olsen twins, Ashley, has announced that she no longer has plans to act. “We worked non-stop until we were 18,” the fashion mogul said in an interview with Elle U.K. “Then we decided to take a break and go to school — and that was when we decided to question whether we would carry on in entertainment. It was time to step behind the process. I wanted to work on other things. It doesn’t mean I’m not interested in Hollywood, I like the way it operates and the people who are involved and the sense of possibility. But if I ever do get back in, it’s not going to be as an actress. It just felt right to move away.” It seems her focus will be on her three fashion lines with Mary-Kate, and perhaps a move behind the camera. “I don’t have to be a pretty face,” she said, reports E! News . “I’ve done that, but now it’s important and liberating to be on the other side of the lens. I don’t like to be the center of attention anymore. “We are perfectionists,” she added about her work as a fashion designer. “We’ve always wanted to be closely involved with everything, totally hands on — that’s why it works. If we step away, it stops working. I know it sounds controlling, but that’s how it has to be.” At the end of the day, MK and Ash still seem to share a similar work ethic. “We’re attracted to different things, but we arrive at the same place,” she said. “I think we’re probably unaware of how intuitive it might seem from the outside. The Jonas Brothers promised they’d be hitting the studio very soon, and it seems they are men of their word. This week big bro Kevin tweeted out some footage of Joe and Nick in the studio whipping up some musical ear candy that will surely delight their fans. While there’s no certainty that the teased track will make their next studio release, the song certainly does blend the guys’ love for mixing genres, touching on soul, rock and disco. When Nick dropped by the MTV News offices recently, he said that when this next album drops, all bets are off as to what it will sound like. “We have spoken about it, and the thing we’re doing which is different to any record we’ve made in the past is we’re saying, ‘Anything goes, let’s just vibe out, listen to a million songs, write a million songs and see what we’re feeling most.’ Our statement, as a band, for this record has to be really strong. We feel like we want to deliver the best record we can.” Individually, the guys have been busy churning out albums, but there hasn’t been a proper JB album since 2009, when they dropped Lines, Vines and Trying Times. The guys are well aware that the music scene is vastly different three years later. “We pay attention to it, definitely,” Nick said. “That’s part of your job as an artist, too, is to be aware of what other people are doing. … We pay attention and have been paying attention just to see where we want to fall. But first we just want to write great songs, and as far as how it sounds, that’ll come second.” There has yet to be a release date for the album, but the Jonas Brothers have teased that it may drop before the end of the year. The hashtag #JonasBrothers2012 attached to the studio video may be the best hint so far. “We don’t know how long it’s going to take us to write this record,” Nick warned. “It may take a couple weeks, it may take months, it could take years, but we’re ready to go on that journey. It’s been a while and there has been a lot of growth as individuals and musically as well. We’ve all gone on our journeys musically. In footage from her MTV documentary ‘Stay Strong,’ the singer/actress explains the meaning behind her ink. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato in “Demi Lovato: Stay Strong” Photo: MTV Demi Lovato ‘s moving MTV documentary, “Stay Strong,” was named after the her two wrist tattoos, which pay homage to the mantra her fans would tell her while Lovato was in treatment. And in a special extra bit of footage, the singer/actress breaks down the meanings behind all of her ink. “I have about nine or ten tattoos. So, I have a lot of tattoos. The very first tattoo I got, I was sixteen. And I got ‘You make me beautiful’ on my ribs,’ she explains about the lyrics from the Bethany Dillon song “Beautiful.” “It’s one of my favorite songs ever and I got it because I was dealing with self-image issues.” Demi went on to tell the story behind her second tattoo, a feather behind her ear. “I got it a Warped Tour on a tour bus, and that just was stupid.” And that’s not the only tattoo she got on a bus at Warped Tour. Another year, she got a tattoo of a kiss mark on her wrist. “It’s my friend Heidi’s lips,” Lovato explained. “And then I have feathers down my ribs,” she said of another set of tattoos. “I have a cross on my hand and then I have ‘peace’ and ‘rock’n’roll’ on my fingers. My dad doesn’t know, but he’ll find out now.” While all of her ink means something to her, it’s the ones she got in the last year that really speak to her journey, such as the one on her right arm that reads “faith.” “It’s a matching tattoo with one of my friends I met in treatment. I didn’t think I was going to come out of treatment with a new best friend, but I did and obviously I believe in faith. Faith has gotten me to where I am today.” And Lovato shouts out her Lovatics, not only with the words “Stay” and “Strong” scrolled across her wrists, but with one other tattoo. “I got ‘Stay’ and ‘Strong’ on my wrists, and these actually were really meaningful to me,” she said. “My fans constantly said it the entire time I was in treatment … and while they said it they would also put a little heart. I have a signature heart that I dot my I’s with. So my fans would draw it on their wrists every day until I came out of treatment. And I thought, ‘What better way to thank them?’ That’s a connection I have with my fans I don’t see with many other people. And it’s really cool that I have that; it’s really special.” So, will she get more ink? “I have to stop!
