Ryan Gosling Drives Away With Three MTV Movie Award Noms

The actor’s busy 2011 could earn him a trio of Golden Popcorn statuettes. By Amy Wilkinson Ryan Gosling in “Drive” Photo: Bold Films In between brokering peace in New York’s East Village , suffering a snub at the hands of the People ‘s Sexiest Man Alive nomination committee and giggling over his own Internet meme , Ryan Gosling somehow found time to release three well-received films in 2011. So it should come as no surprise that the actor acquired a number of nods Monday when the 2012 MTV Movie Awards nominations were announced. The 31-year-old racked up three nominations: Best Male Performance and Best Gut-Wrenching Performance for the action flick “Drive” and Best Kiss (along with co-star Emma Stone) for the romantic comedy “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” Gosling’s other 2011 film, “The Ides of March,” was not nominated. Gosling is no stranger to MTV’s Golden Popcorn, having won a statuette in 2005 for Best Kiss with his “Notebook” co-star (and former girlfriend) Rachel McAdams. Their onstage re-creation of the smoldering smooch is still one of the Movie Award ceremony’s most memorable moments. This year, however, Gosling and Best Kiss co-nominee Stone face stiff competition in the form of “Twilight” lovebirds Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, who’ve won the honor three years running. Elsewhere, Gosling will face Bryce Dallas Howard (“The Help”), Channing Tatum and Rob Riggle (“21 Jump Street”), Tom Cruise (“Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol”), and the women of “Bridesmaids” for Best Gut-Wrenching Performance, while Daniel Radcliffe (“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2”), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (“50/50”), Josh Hutcherson (“The Hunger Games”) and Channing Tatum (“The Vow”) will be his competition for Best Male Performance. Nadya Suleman in Debt at Least $500,000 For Legal Fees, Insurance, Utilities, DirecTV

Nadya Suleman, a.k.a. Octomom, says her financial woes are so far beyond terrible, she owes between $500,000-1,000,000 to various creditors. Octomom filed for bankruptcy yesterday, claiming she has $0-50,000 to her name. Combined with 14 mouths to feed, that’s what we call bad. Fortunately, she gets all the premium channels though. Game of Thrones is not to be missed, even if your kids can’t go to the bathroom indoors. A list of creditors lining up to get paid by Octo include: Orkin Pest Control Roberto Robles Gardening Services William F. Turner Attorney at Law The California DMV Farmers Insurance Verizon City of La Habra Water Dept. So Cal Gas Company So Cal Edison Company Superior Court of California DirecTV Nadya Suleman claims she has already completed a debt education course, as required from every individual who files for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Not that it’ll do her a lot of good until she has money coming in (just wait for her erotic solo effort ), but Octomom says she took that class online. Presumably before Verizon turned off her service.

Selena Gomez Embraces Role Model Status, Racy New Role

Selena Gomez is no longer a Disney actress. That will become especially apparent in early 2013 when Spring Breakers hits theaters. In the film – which Selena described as “racy” this week in a radio interview with Elvis Duran – Selena joins a bikini-clad Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Benson as young women who get in trouble with the law, only to then get bailed out by a drug dealer and forced to do some of his dirty work. This one is for you, Justin Bieber … “The movie is different,” Gomez said in that same interview. “I will be 20 this year. I am an actress; I love my job. I want to do things that are gonna challenge me and push me and make me think, ‘Oh, this is different, this is interesting, the script’s great.’ Harmony [Korine], the director is amazing and I got to work with a great cast, so it is what it is.” Included in that cast is James Franco. “He’s great. He’s very smart. I was completely intimidated,” Gomez said of the former Oscar nominee. “He gave me things that pushed my performance. I really, really appreciated it.” Selena also appreciates her fans, as well as her status of a role model. She says she embraces it. “In some aspects I’ve given that title and I take full responsibility for it,” Selena said. “I worked for Disney Channel. My show was the best thing that happened to me. “I got to have a great fan-base. There were girls, who were my age, 16, when I started and now they’re 19, 20, with me so we kind of grew up together. So in a way, some of my fans have already grown with me.”

Usher To Preview Looking For Myself At Off-Broadway Show

Singer tells MTV News ‘Fuerza Bruta’ matches the ‘more artistic’ music on his upcoming album. By Jocelyn Vena Usher Photo: Todd Williamson/ WireImage This Saturday (and this Saturday only), Usher will appear in New York City’s “Fuerza Bruta,” an off-Broadway show where no one speaks, but the story is told through bright lights, music and dancing. In the lead role of Running Man, Usher will also use the show to preview his June album release, Looking for Myself. Fans in the audience will likely get closer than they’ve ever been to the singer, as the audience stands during the performance, becoming another member of the company. With several weeks until his album release, Usher explained to MTV News at a rehearsal why he wanted to use this show to preview tracks. “I felt like the natural elements as well as the emotion of ‘Fuerza Bruta’ would definitely speak or be significant to some of the stories and I guess hopefully a connection [was there],” he explained of tying this performance to his album. “When we began to explore different directions [for the performance like] maybe we use some of their music, maybe we use some of mine … and before you knew it the idea came together. We tried it, I got on Running Man and it worked.” The show will stream his entire album, which drops June 12, and he thinks the mind-bending artistry of “Fuerza Bruta” works with the sound he’s created on it. “This is more artistic of an album than I’ve had in history,” he said. “And I felt like yeah, it would be a lot for me, but I was willing to at least try it. There were many times I had seen the show and I only hoped that I would be able to make it happen.” Related Artists Usher

Happy 70th Birthday, Barbra Streisand!

Barbra Streisand turned 70 this week. Seventy! The star marked the milestone with a party to remember in Malibu, Calif., on Tuesday, celebrating with close friends and enjoying a performance by Johnny Mathis. The legendary singer-actress was joined at Taverna Tony by 80 guests, including John Travolta, Warren Beatty, Pierce Brosnan and Keely Smith, Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw, her stepson Josh Brolin and Diane Lane, Kenny G and Donna Karan. “It was an intimate magical event with only very close friends, people I’ve known and loved more than 20 years,” Streisand personally told People . “The highlight of the night was my son’s film that he made for me. People kept asking, ‘Who’s that singing?’ And when I said it was Jason, everyone was blown away by the soulfulness of his voice. Quincy Jones wanted to sign him on the spot.” “All my friends made it an evening full of surprises for me, flying in the remarkable Israeli mentalist Lior Suchard and gifting me with the performance of my favorite singer, Johnny Mathis, and many, many more highlights.” Happy birthday to one of the greats! In her career, Barbra has won two Academy Awards, eight Grammy Awards, five Emmy Awards and a Tony Award, one of a select few entertainers who have ever won all four. Not a bad resume. ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ Trailer: Five Kick-Ass Moments

Duke goes early and so does London in the brand-new trailer for ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation,’ from ‘Never Say Never’ director Jon Chu. By Josh Wigler Dwayne Johnson in “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” Photo: Paramount Crashing through the sky comes the fearful cry of Cobra, but I feel no fear at the laser-blasting terrorist organization’s coming arrival. For one, we all know the Joes have this battle in the bag. For another, there’s a second “G.I. Joe” movie heading our way in just two short months, and by the looks of it, it’s the movie that fans have always wanted. Bring on Zartan, Firefly and the rest of them, I say! Cobra Commander and his minions are out in full force in the brand-new “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” trailer that arrived Tuesday (April 24) courtesy of Machinima . Featuring an introduction from leading man Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the two-and-a-half minute trailer embraces everything we loved about that first “Retaliation” spot and ups the ante considerably. Keep reading for the five scenes from the trailer we were most excited to see. The Duke Of Hazard “Just don’t kill Duke. That’s really my only request,” MTV.com reader Adam wrote in response to the arrival of the first “Retaliation” trailer some months ago. Unfortunately, Adam, I don’t think your wish will be granted: Rumors have long been swirling about the early exit of Channing Tatum’s “Rise of Cobra” hero, and his limited appearance in the “Retaliation” trailer only fuels that fire further. If there’s a silver lining, it’s that Duke appears to have grown among the Joe crowd quite a bit since last we saw him. He’s got a strong relationship with Roadblock, so much so that he happily volunteers to babysit his fellow Joe’s little girls for a weekend. Duke might not last long in “Retaliation,” but expect his departure — however it comes — to weigh heavily on Roadblock as the film unfolds. The Country Is At War There’s only one man who could destroy G.I. Joe in one crushing move, and The Rock voted for him. Viewers well know that the president of the United States is Zartan in disguise, using his influence to push Cobra into the public eye and assert its dominance over the globe. If you thought the rise of Cobra meant the death of the former president, however, you’d be mistaken: The trailer reveals that the real president (played by “Pirates of the Caribbean” veteran Jonathan Pryce) is still alive, if not exactly well. Two Cases of Thin Mints With few allies left to turn to, Roadblock takes his surviving Joes — Flint and Lady Jaye — and teams up with the reclusive General Joe Colton, the man who started it all. The hero, played by action legend Bruce Willis, has gone from complaining about his high cholesterol to demanding Girl Scout cookies in this newest trailer. And he wonders why his blood pressure is all out of whack! London Bridge Is Falling Down “Rise of Cobra” saw the destruction of the Eiffel Tower. It looks like London’s going to undergo a similar “everything must go” sale when “Retaliation” rolls around. What, you really thought that President Zartan wanted world peace? He and the Cobra gang are behind the massive terrorist assault on the United Kingdom, and it’s going to be up to Roadblock and his pals to prevent further destruction from happening. Ninja Wrap So. Many. Ninjas. But never enough ninjas. There is no such thing, as Snake Eyes and Jinx battling an army of sword-wielding Cobra loyalists on the side of a mountain will surely tell you. Recently, Chu revealed that a nine- to ten-minute, dialogue-free ninja battle would occur in “Retaliation,” and going by the previous trailer and this latest one, it looks like this snow-covered mountain is where it’s all going down. Awesome. What do you think of the new “G.I. Joe” trailer? Sound off in the comments below! Check out everything we’ve got on ” G.I. Joe: Retaliation .” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Related Photos “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” Character Photos Cast of G.I.
