Seems that Lil Wayne and Baby are snatching up new artists, getting ready to saturate the industry even more with a full roster. Mind you they already have Nicki Minaj, Drake, Bow Wow, and Tyga. They recently Busta Rhymes, Mystikal and now the newest edition Christina Milian. Sources say that Lil Wayne confirmed Milian by making an announcement during Grammy weekend. (Hmmmmmm, I wonder what her baby daddy, The Dream-songwriter/producer, has to say about it). Lil Wayne made the informal announcement this weekend while at YMCMB’s pre-Grammy party at Paramount Studios in Hollywood. “I got the beautiful Ms. Christina Milian with me tonight. Ya’ll make some noise for Ms. Christina Milian. Young Money Christina Milian!” Christina Milian confirmed the new deal via Twitter with the statement: “The answer is….Yes. Let’s Get To Work! I Heart You Guys.. It’s Now or Never. :*” Her first YMCMB release dropped this morning. Titled “Mr. Valentine,” and it shows Christina giving some latin flavor while singing seductive over a pop beat. ‘I can’t wait to unwrap it. I like it like it like it..‘ Via NecoleBitchie.com Follow me twitter.com/JazzyMcBee Yay or Nay for “Mr. Valentine”?
Okay so um, Nicki Minaj probably made history for the worst Grammy performance EVER! First she shows up on the red carpet with a Pope (he’s wearing all-white of course) while she poses in an all red cape (assuming she’s the devil, I really have no idea..*shrugs*) But fast-forward to the performance, thinking Nicki would perform one of her hits and just kill it, she performed some type of demonic ritual/exorcist on stage. Everything went left field, leaving viewers baffled, confused, and disgusted. “Nicki chatted with Ryan Seacrest and explained the concept behind her Grammy performance as well as her decision to walk the red carpet with a Pope. She also spoke on what it was like to work with an icon like Madonna for the Superbowl as well as her initial disappointment in M.I.A for flipping the bird during the half-time show.” On why she walked with the religious figure on the red carpet He is major part of the story and the movie that I’m writing about one of my alter egos. His name is Roman. Basically the religious figure is there because he was called on by Roman’s mom to rehabilitate him. On her Grammy “Red Riding Hood” outfit I wasn’t going to do the red carpet. I was backstage preparing to have my performance outfit and not do a carpet and go and sit down. My people wanted me to do it. I had this amazing robe made for me by Versace sent from Milan. I said, “Oh, my God I have to wear this. They were so generous. They sent me so much stuff and I was originally going to wear it during the performance, but when I got it, it was a little heavy for the performance. I said, “Hey, it’s only one way to do it and that’s the red carpet.” On The decision to perform “Roman Holiday” First of all, The Grammys chose ‘Roman Holiday.’ The producers of the Grammys came into the studio, and they heard ‘Roman Holiday’ and I could not play them another record after they heard that. They went crazy. I could have chosen to do a no-brainer pop song, but I can’t do it anymore. I have to stay true to what I’m doing. Seeing how comfortable I was last night, I was like, “Oh, my God”, this was the best choice because my fan base, the Roman Empire and the Barbz they understand every single thing that I’m doing because Roman was created two years ago. Roman isn’t something new just coming out. I’ve been writing the story for a very long time and yesterday was his coming out party. Laurianne [Gibson] is such a good friend of mine and she did an amazing job bringing my vision to life. It was very literal if you know who Roman is and what he’s all about but if you don’t know the Roman character then you have to kind of digest it. On the concept of the performance I had this vision for him to be sort of exorcised—or actually he never gets exorcised—but people around him tell him he’s not good enough because he’s not normal, he’s not blending in with the average Joe. And so his mother is scared and the people around him are afraid because they’ve never seen anything like him. He wanted to show that not only is he amazing and he’s sure of himself and confident, but he’s never gonna change, he’s never gonna be exorcised. Even when they throw the holy water on him, he still rises above.” On Working with Madonna for the Super Bowl Meeting Madonna changed my life. Working with Madonna changed my life. Rehearsing with Madonna for two weeks changed my life. You look at these amazing women you have to realize that a lot of work goes into this. I for the first time refused to do anything. I didn’t go to any parties. I didn’t do anything. This performance was it. This is the first performance that I’m proud of in my entire career because I saw Madonna’s outcome when she sacrificed, and how she rehearses and rehearses. Everyone there was like, “Oh, my God we got it” and she was like,” No, I want you to know this choreography in your sleep.” You know what? We did know it in out sleep by the time we got on the Super Bowl stage. When I saw that, it inspired me so much… the same way [Lil] Wayne started really becoming a beast as a rapper. The Madonna situation inspired me to give it my all in terms of rehearsal and in terms of bringing my vision to life. In terms of you know what, “Hey, I’ll pay for this performance myself because it means that much to me.” On M.I.A. flipping the bird during the half time show My first feeling was disappointment only because of my respect for Madonna. Even though I’m a coco lady too but I would never be able to do it off of the strength of Madonna. There are fines that goes into these things so I just thought “Oh, my God I hope they don’t penalize Madonna.” In hindsight, Madonna knows what kind of artist M.I.A is and it was her decision to take that risk with all of us. She [Madonna] has done some crazy things to become the icon that she is, and I think that’s why she was able to forgive M.I.A…. Me personally, I couldn’t see myself doing that. Just out of respect for Madonna, because I just wouldn’t want any backlash coming back on Madonna. Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj had some words on twitter for folks that weren’t happy with her Grammy Awards performance (some went as far as calling her a devil worshipper). She tweeted: Were they offended by ‘the devil inside’??? Shut-up & watch the movie bitch! #ThrowsPopcornATtheBackOfYoHeadHoe! lmaoooooooooooooooooooooooo Not, 2, Not 1…I wish I at least had a point five percentile worth of f*cks to give right now. Twitter followers debate about the performance, while one hip-hop expert tells MTV News it signals Minaj’s ‘push for pop.’ By Rob Markman Nicki Minaj performs at the 2012 Grammy Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Nicki Minaj’s Grammy performance Sunday night (February 12) was spirited, to say the least. Beginning her set with the “Exorcism of Roman” mini-movie, Minaj unleashed her alter ego onstage in a horror-themed backdrop and debuted her “Roman Holiday” single. It was the most elaborate of the night’s Grammy performances and has everyone talking. AllHipHop.com founder Chuck Creekmur thinks the performance will be among the most-talked-about tomorrow. “I definitely felt like she was reaching out to the mainstream with this performance, trying to make that full leap into the pop world,” he told MTV News. “She’ll definitely have people talking. Obviously, we’ve seen this before with Madonna and Lady Gaga — especially Gaga.” Video: Watch Highlights From The 2012 Grammy Awards Nicki’s fanatic following on Twitter was in full support of Minaj’s display. “@NICKIMINAJ that is a monumental M4L for you and us. I’m in love with your performance,” @SlickerGuy tweeted. Others weren’t as turned on by the Harajuku Barbie’s set. “Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj, I’m all about expression, but it has gone overboard. Love Adele cause her focus is on music, not controversy,” @thekatiestevens wrote. “I liked Nicki Minaj’s performance. Too many people be sipping on that hater aid! Hahaha,” @_lookslikeali wrote, responding to all the negative comments. While he did praise her for pushing the envelope, Creekmur thought Minaj was slowly shifting out of the hip-hop universe for poppier pastures. “One part theater and one part music — it just felt very much like she almost abandoning her hip-hop roots and really making a push for pop,” he said. “Not necessarily in a bad way, but definitely a concerted effort; when you’re making the leap and you know you’re not coming back.” Stick with MTV News for all the news on Whitney Houston’s tribute, the Grammy red-carpet fashion , Grammy winners and more until the hangover wears off! ‘It’s amazing for our scene to finally get the respect that I think it deserves,’ Guetta tells MTV News. By Zachary Swickey deadmau5 performs at the 2012 Grammy Awards Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images While grandparents around the world celebrated the reunion of the Beach Boys at the 54th annual Grammy Awards , fans of electronic dance music held their glow sticks high after the dubstep movement’s leader, Skrillex (24-year-old Sonny Moore), took home three Grammys out of his impressive five nominations — not to mention the live performances from David Guetta and deadmau5 during the telecast. Skrillex — who went from fronting a screamo punk band to being a digital DJ in a few short years — managed to snag awards for Best Dance Album, Best Dance Recording (for “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites”) and Best Remix (for his “Cinema” collaboration with Benny Benassi). He lost out on his other two noms, for Best New Artist (folk crooner Bon Iver took that one ) and Best Short Form Music Video (a sweeping Adele nabbed that). Check out our top 10 EDM artists of 2011! EDM’s road to the mainstream hit a high also thanks in part to the particularly awesome pairing of Lil Wayne and Chris Brown for “I Can Only Imagine” with the turntables helmed by French super-producer David Guetta, who at 44 is finally getting some Stateside love (let’s not forget his other ridiculously catchy single “Memories” with Kid Cudi and current chart-dweller “Turn Me On” with Nicki Minaj). “It’s like having a rave outside the Grammys, and I love it!” Guetta told MTV News when asked about his performance before the show. Guetta was happy the EDM community is finally getting some Grammy love, saying, “It’s really exciting, because they wanted to acknowledge electronic dance music, and I think it’s amazing for our scene to finally get the respect that I think it deserves.” An even more surprising performance came from the Foo Fighters and their electronic-music breakdown courtesy of scene icon deadmau5 (many female fans in the crowd could even be seen donning neon “mau5-hats”) for the latter half of their hit tune “Rope.” “deadmau5 is maybe the only EDM artist I know, because we did a bunch of festivals over the summer, and for whatever reason, he would be headlining over there while we were headlining over here,” Grohl told MTV News. “I guess people thought that our audiences would split, but our audiences are compatible in a way, because what he does … rocks.” deadmau5 returned the gratitude to the Foo Fighters, telling us about their performance: “It was actually really well thought out over a month or so. Dave [and the Foo Fighters] were a natural choice for me, because I love their music.” Stick with MTV News for all the news on Whitney Houston’s tribute, the Grammy red-carpet fashion , Grammy winners and more until the hangover wears off! Dave Grohl especially excited about Best Hard Rock/Metal win for ‘White Limo’: ‘That’s kind of the coolest song we’ve ever written.’ By Kara Warner, with reporting by James Montgomery Foo Fighters win Best Rock Performance at the 2012 Grammy Awards Photo: Getty Images Music’s biggest night has come and gone , with Adele and the Foo Fighters walking away with the most Grammy loot. Although Adele bested the Foos with her six Grammy wins compared to their five, the rockers owned the night in their own way, including their part in a tribute to electronic music that also featured David Guetta, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown and deadmau5 . When MTV News caught up with the band on the Grammy red carpet — when they had already won four trophies, including Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance for “White Limo,” Best Rock Song for “Walk,” Best Rock Album for Wasting Light and Best Long Form Music Video for “Foo Fighters: Back and Forth” — we chatted them up about their pre-show wins, specifically the Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance trophy, which frontman Dave Grohl had expressed earlier was the one he wanted most. “We got it!” Grohl said. “I feel so bad for the Dream Theater guy, because they actually had a metal performance, we didn’t, but it’s awesome. That’s kind of the coolest song we’ve ever written,” he said of the edgy “White Limo.” Producer Butch Vig fondly recalls his Wasting Light sessions with the Foos to MTV News. The bandmembers were very relaxed and unaffected by their wins. When we mentioned that their fourth win for Best Rock Album is now the most any rock band has won, they were completely surprised, but grateful nonetheless that they could sit back and focus more on their own performance and the EDM tribute versus the awards. “It’s kind of nice. Now we can just sit there and play and not worry about Grammys anymore,” Grohl said. “I think if we win them all, we look like di–s.” Video: Watch Highlights From The 2012 Grammy Awards Grohl said the band was amped up for their EDM performance with deadmau5 not only because he made a really “clever” remix of their hit “Rope,” but because the onstage collaboration was so unexpected. “We’re going to begin with our [version of ‘Rope’] and kind of mash up and transition into his,” Grohl said. “It’s so un-us, though, when you hear it that it’s awesome,” drummer Taylor Hawkins chimed in. The two weeks leading up to the Grammy Awards are when we finally get a good idea of who’s performing and who’s presenting. This year’s Grammy Awards, which is this Sunday at 8 p.m. on CBS, will feature about 22 songs being performed. The executive producer of the show says it’s going to be “one of the biggest shows” in the history of the Grammys. Chris Brown, Tony Bennett, and Carrie Underwood are the most recent performers who have been added to the lineup. This will be Chris Brown’s first Grammy performance in three years after he was arrested for assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna at a pre-Grammy party in February 2009. He is nominated for three awards at the 2012 Grammys, including Best R&B Album for F.A.M.E. The Foo Fighters will participate in a “special performance highlighting dance/electronica music” at Sunday’s show and will collaborate with an unlikely crew that includes Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, David Guetta and Deadmau5. All five artists are nominated for Grammy Awards this year. Tony Bennett will duet with Carrie Underwood and Alicia Keys will lead an Etta James tribute alongside Bonnie Raitt. The Grammys announced last week that Adele will make her first performance after undergoing vocal-cord surgery. Previously announced Grammy performers include: Katy Perry, Jason Aldean, Kelly Clarkson, Glen Campbell, The Band Perry, Blake Shelton, Coldplay, Rihanna , Bruno Mars, Paul McCartney, Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift.
