‘I found it incredibly exciting seeing Dan playing such a mature role,’ screenwriter Jane Goldman tells MTV News. By Kevin P. Sullivan Daniel Radcliffe Photo: Stephen Lovekin/ Getty Images Later this month, Daniel Radcliffe will leave the friendly ghosts of Hogwarts behind in favor of a much darker haunting. His first major post-“Potter” role comes with the adaptation of Susan Hill’s beloved Victorian ghost story “The Woman in Black.” The film represents a major challenge for Radcliffe and his star persona. It’s his biggest movie release as a mere leading Muggle, and fans want to know: Can “The Woman in Black” help Radcliffe make the all-important leap from child star to adult actor? “Woman in Black” screenwriter Jane Goldman thinks so. “It’s an extraordinary achievement,” she said. “I think we were all just blown away by his performance. I think that’s going to be pretty exciting for his fans.” Goldman recently made a name for herself penning some of the most successful comic book adaptations in recent years. Her writing credit appears on “Kick-Ass” and “X-Men: First Class,” as well as spy thriller “The Debt.” Radcliffe’s role presents something entirely different for the actor, who, believe it or not, plays a father and widower in the film. This stark change really stands out for Goldman, considering that Radcliffe played a younger character in the last few “Potter” films. “In a sense, with the last few years of ‘Potter,’ he was playing younger than he is,” she said. “He is a young man, but he also threw himself totally into this [‘Woman in Black’] role, and the fact that he’s so believable as a widower and as a father [is impressive].” What excited Goldman most about Radcliffe’s performance was the maturity he brought to it. “I found it incredibly exciting seeing Dan playing such a mature role,” she said. “I think that will be a fun and really interesting thing for his audience to see. By Jocelyn Vena Emma Stone Photo: Fotonoticias/Getty Images Emma Stone is ready to ride in a “Little White Corvette” in her next flick. “The Help” star is attached to the comedy, for which she’ll reportedly make $1 million up-front, Deadline reports. The story, which returns the actress to her funny-lady roots, follows two siblings who find cocaine in their dead father’s old Corvette. They attempt to cash in on the million-dollar bundle when they head down to Miami to sell it off. The part of her sibling has yet to be cast. Stone has been interested in the project, for which she will also serve as executive producer, since mid-2011. Production is scheduled to begin this summer. Until then, comic book fans everywhere are looking forward to seeing her take on Gwen Stacy in “The Amazing Spider-Man” ; she’ll also reconnect with her “Crazy, Stupid, Love” co-star Ryan Gosling in the period drama “Gangster Squad.” Both films are out later this year, and both are fighting it out in the MTV Movie Brawl 2012 . As awards season rages on, Stone’s breakout film, “The Help,” continues to generate buzz. The movie and its stars are up for five awards at the Golden Globes on January 15, including Best Motion Picture – Drama; Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama for Viola Davis; Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for both Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer; and Best Original Song – Motion Picture for Mary J. Performing live on New Year’s Eve, Cee Lo Green made a seemingly minor change to the lyrics to John Lennon’s classic song “Imagine” that caused a big uproar. Shortly before the ball dropped, Green changed the lyrics from “Nothing to kill or die for, and no religion too” to “Nothing to kill or die for, and all religion’s true.” This didn’t go unnoticed by many fans, upset with the change. In response, Cee Lo Tweeted, “Yo I meant no disrespect by changing the lyric guys! I was trying to say a world were u could believe what u wanted that’s all.” That did little to comfort angered Lennon lovers, who lashed out on Twitter. Rapper 50 Cent, never one to be accused of family friendly entertainment, saw half of his performance bleeped out, but still rocked the house on The X Factor finale. Astro may not be the inaugural X Factor winner , but the young rapper did make his way onto the finale, rapping alongside Fiddy. That’s a feat in and of itself! Also, L.A. Lakers guard Derek Fisher introduced Mr. Cent, his good friend, and other Lakers – Matt Barnes and Steve Blake – also made it up on stage somehow. We can’t explain it either.
