Saints Merchandise Toes Copyright Line

Filed under: NFL Fans, Super Bowl, Sports Business and MediaNEW ORLEANS — We’ve all seen them, those enterprising individuals who camp out at sporting events and concerts and sell unlicensed bootleg merchandise for much cheaper than what’s available legitimately. And usually, the homemade merch is hilariously bad, tacky screen-printed designs on t-shirts that feel like they’re made out of thin paper towel, mostly only available in XXL.This phenomenon has always intrigued me. Who buys these things? In New Orleans the answer is, apparently, almost everybody. Because despite a mini-controversy in which the NFL tried to crack down on unlicensed merchandise using the “Who Dat” refrain so ubiquitous in the city, and then backtracking to state they’d only be cracking down on merchandise that pairs the phrase with NFL trademarked terms and logos, stores are taking advantage of the leeway generously and creatively, selling t-shirts that get the point across while side-stepping anything that can legitimately get them in any legal hot water. And they’re selling. I’ve seen far more of these on people than any jersey or NFL licensed t-shirts. Below, a sampling.

Kelly Rowland and Her Shitty Implants in a Bikini of the Day

Kelly Rowland got the shitty end of the deal with that whole Destiny’s Child shit, not that she didn’t make great money doing the whole Destiny’s Child shit, even though no amount of money would be enough to stomach hanging with Beyonce and her bullshit over the course of a bunch of years, but because her partner went onto have a solo career and acting career, becoming this phenomenon all while Kelly Rowland is stuck training for the circus because that’s the only place a clown like her can get work. The real confusing thing in all this, and what makes this story even more outrageous is the fact that Beyonce was the fat one and everyone knows the fat friend is the one who is supposed to be stuck on the backburner and ignored until one night when she finally stands up for herself and asks her skinny friend to leave one guy for her for a change, and that dude just happens to be you, forcing you to go home with the fat manager and not the chick you initially planned on going home with.

Cities of Refuse

I’ve mentioned before on my blog about the giant mound of trash twice the size of Texas floating around in the Pacific Ocean, but only as part of another blog. Since National Geographic wrote about it today, along with some of the first documentation of the phenomenon, I thought I’d bring it up again. Here is a link to the National Geographic article. Here is a better picture of it. The floating plastic trash creates a hazard for aquatic life and consumers of aquatic life in the area, and represents 10% of the total worldwide plastic thrown away each year. No one knows how deep the marine dump is. The Scripps company is funding the effort to document to floating island of garbage. For those of you unfamiliar with Scripps, they own HGTV, several magazine holdings, and a news station and news paper in almost every state. They own a station in Tulsa and a paper in Muskogee here in Oklahoma. I am interested to see where this project leads in the future. If you assume we can ever even stop the annual input of plastic to this contribution, you still have the problem of what are we going to do with what is already there? Will we tie it together and create new land masses? The cities of the future? Or will we put it in a rocket ship and blast it off into the sun. I would love to be a part of this project, but barring that, I am excited to at least see someone researching it finally. Continue reading
