ChitChatter: Doting Daddy Hov Has Inspired Rapper Theophilus “Snuffleupagus” London To Have A Baby

Aw isn’t their bromance sweet? Jay-Z Inspires Theophilus London To Have A Child Jay-Z is even inspiring fatherhood in Theophilus London . The hip-hop artists were spotted hanging out at private Meatpacking club Soho House Thursday night. During the conversation, Jay must have been talking glowingly about his 8-month-old daughter, Blue Ivy, because London posted on Twitter around midnight: London told us he and Jay had gone to the roof to catch the sunset and the full moon and ended up talking about “life on all aspects.” Jay will rock the Benjamin Franklin Parkway at the two-day “Made in America” festival with Budweiser this weekend in Philadelphia, where Pearl Jam, Skrillex, Janelle Monae, Passion Pit, Miike Snow, Calvin Harris and others will also perform. Jay’s wife, Beyoncé, is also rumored to make a special appearance as well. London will be there, too: “got invited by Jay to see him play in philly bruh. real is real,” he tweeted Thursday night. Lupe Fiasco Explains Why He Called Obama A Terrorist And “A Great Speaker, But Kills Little Children”

Lupe Fiasco sat down to talk about his controversial viewpoints and his upcoming album, Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1, this week. Known to be apolitical and someone who doesn’t vote, Lupe considers himself “a stone-cold subversive”: This time, “the plot,” as Lupe calls it, is to release the album’s first installment in September and the sequel in early 2013, with several singles hitting airwaves along the way. “It’s meant to tell the great American experience, touch on my ideas, my very rough, very unfinished, unpolished thoughts and feelings about America: American history, American culture, American society, American beauty, American food. You’ll see that laced throughout the album,” he said. If the first two joints, “B!tch Bad” and “Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free),” are any barometer, the rapper’s reputation for blistering social and political commentary will remain intact. No hoes, kush and rims here, thank you. If you know his music, you probably recognize him as a gifted lyricist with a wide range of beats and a penchant for material that can go a little over listeners’ heads. It’s not that he’s condescending; he wants their heads a little higher. Those who know him only through headlines and sound bites may be more familiar with his Occupy Wall Street participation or his occasional inflammatory remark — such as when he called the president “the biggest terrorist” last year. Asked to elaborate, Lupe said there was a lot of backlash to his comment — especially from a hip-hop community that generally stands behind the country’s first black president — but his barb was more directed at the Oval Office rather than any particular man who has occupied it. “I think that American presidentssss,” he said, hissing to emphasize the plural, “that position in itself, as well as American foreign policy, it has terrorism in it. CIA agents going to overthrow certain governments — they’re using terrorist tactics. They’re not going in there like, ‘Hey, you wanna have some cake?’ “ “I don’t think it’s being unpatriotic,” he said of his stance. “This nation was founded by rebels and revolutionaries, and its flags were carried across the battlefields by people who were very, very against the status quo and who questioned and criticized. I think it’s following that tradition, but I think we’re in very sensitive times.” Not only did he decline to waver on his incendiary assessment of the commander in chief, but the day after explaining the aforementioned remarks, he described Obama as “someone who is a great speaker, but kills little children,” during an interview with a Philadelphia radio station. We got to respect his stance on Politics and the fact that Lupe has stayed true to his roots since the original Food and Liquor dropped back in ’06. He touches on the striking level of violence going on in the country right now, especially amongst youth: What often seems like savagery among urban youth can often be attributed to a lack of conflict-management skills, he said, and it’s troubling how much of the violence in American cities can be traced back to base aggression and materialism. Rap isn’t solely to blame, he said, but it often reinforces many of the inner city’s most cancerous characteristics. “What’s the biggest commercial for aggression, sexuality and materialism? What gets pumped into these kids’ heads?” he asked in a veiled shot at his musical genre. “Taking someone else’s girl, which is so laissez-faire in hip-hop, will get you killed in the streets, but it doesn’t seem to be an issue when you hear it on the radio.” It’s an interesting notion, that hip-hop should have a conscience, and it’s not something you hear from within the industry, at least outside the likes of Common or Talib Kweli. Perhaps it’s just another example of how Lupe isn’t your typical rap star. This is Lupe’s fourth album and it’s set to drop September 25th. Source Images via WENN/Facebook

POLL: Should Mitt Romney Release More Tax Returns?

It’s an issue Democrats will not let go of, and one even many Republicans now believe must be addressed: Mitt Romney has released tax returns from 2010 and 2011. But he has so far refused to delve further into his past, raising questions about what sort of loopholes or offshore accounts the Presidential candidate is hiding. “We’ve given all people need to know and understand about our financial situation and about how we live our life,” Ann Romney said today on Good Morning America. But even prominent conservatives such as Haley Barbour think Romney ought be more forthright, and a USA Today survey of 539 adults show one-third of Republicans agree . It hasn’t been the best week for Romney. He was booed during an NAACP after making a comment about Obamacare . Where do you stand on the tax return issue? Should Romney release more documents?

Paul Williams Still Alive: The Grammy and Oscar Winner Shares His Top 10 Movie Songs

Throughout the ’70s and into the first part of the ’80s, it was hard to ignore singer/songwriter/actor/sometimes talk show host and best-friend of the Muppets Paul Williams. He won Grammys and even an Oscar for hits he wrote including “We’ve Only Just Begun,”, “Rainy Days on Mondays,” “Evergreen,” “Just an Old Fashioned Love Song” and “Rainbow Connection.” Barbra Streisand, The Carpenters and even Kermit the Frog are among the artists he wrote super-hits for. Below, Paul Williams gives us his top ten movie songs of all time and dishes insight on Stephen Kessler’s documentary about him, Paul Williams Still Alive , about his raging ascent and crashing fall and return to form… Johnny Carson first brought the artist onto the Tonight Show as the swinging ’70s were just beginning. He did television, movies, concerts. If there was a group of “It-guys” in that crazy decade, Williams would surely have been a part of that cadre of people at the center of all that spectacle. But as the ’80s wore on and into the ’90s Paul Williams all but disappeared from the center of it all. Drugs and booze did him in for a while, though he came roaring back though via a less flashy route. Enter fan and Oscar-nominated filmmaker Stephen Kessler. He had long been a fan of Williams as a teen growing up in Queens, NY and his songs which he described as about “depression, loneliness and alienation,” and set out to find Williams and make a documentary. Williams said ‘yes’ but he was hardly a willing participant, at least initially, as Williams told Movieline. “By the time I decided to go along, he had spent a lot of time and a lot of money. I didn’t want to flat out say no and didn’t know how to say no.” Williams added that he thought there was nothing worse than some older famous guy trying to reach for that last bit of notoriety. Kessler is very present in the film, which goes against most documentary standards unless you’re Michael Moore or Morgan Spurlock. With Williams reluctant initially to open up and only providing limited access, the story unfolds interweaving a treasure-trove of ’70s pop culture which Paul is at the center and Kessler’s desire to get at his core and open up. I’m an actor, I can ignore the camera if I want to. But it’s exhausting to try and pretend I don’t notice the camera,” said Williams. “I didn’t want to do that, it seemed ridiculous.” One thing cameras caught and the film surfaces, decades later, is footage of Williams, high, while doing late night talk shows. Now 22 years sober, it’s a painful reminder of his past life and he even said during the film that he didn’t want his daughter to see that. But he relents and said he hopes it will help others. “I became a shallow ride and my behavior was totally unacceptable. One of the best things I did was to say to keep that footage in the movie. I think by leaving in you get a sense of how bad it got,” he said. “[There is] a sense of real disappointment and leading edge of shame. In a certain context it’s hard to watch, but you get a sense that recovery works. You see the yin and yang of the whole deal and you see that now, my life is such a gift. I hope I can make a difference… I love my life. And I’m blown away by the reaction.” PAUL WILLIAM’s TOP 10 MOVIE SONGS: Rock Around the Clock by Bill Haley, Blackboard Jungle (1955) Main title theme by Elmer Bernstein, The Man with a Golden Arm (1955) Lose Yourself by Eminem/Bass/Resto, 8 Mile (2002) When You Wish Upon a Star by Harline/Washington Pinnochio (1940) The Man That Got Away by Arlen /Gershwin, A Star is Born (1954) With a Song in My Heart by Rodgers/Hart, With A Song in my Heart (1954) Somewhere by Bernstein/Sondheim, West Side Story Moon River by Mancini/Mercer, Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961) Alfie by Bacharach/David, Alfie (2004) Streets of Philadelphia by Bruce Springsteen, Philadelphia (1993) Born To Be Wild by Dennis Edmonton AKA: Mars Bonfire, Easy Rider (1969) And what are your favorites? Quote Of The Day: Miguel Warns Other Artists “Don’t Eff’ing Come Over Here ’Cause I Will Eff You Up”

My, my, such hostility… Miguel Warns Other Artists About Biting His Style Miguel has a stern warning for the competition: Stay out of his lane or he will “f**k you up.” The R&B crooner is taking a tough stance when it comes to his music and those who try to imitate his style. The 25-year-old is currently in the studio working on the follow-up to his 2010 debut All I Want Is You. “It’s definitely a progressive album,” he told Mina SayWhat on Philadelphia radio station Power 99. “I would describe it as being progressive in the sense that I’m taking a lot of my more alternative influences and incorporating them.” Over the past few months he released his trilogy of Art Dealer Chic micro EPs to give fans a taste of his new direction. “‘Adorn’ is a great segway because it’s very soulful, but still has some alternative elements,” he said. “I think that’s what makes it really cool. It’s a very honest representation of where I’m at, but it’s just a segway.” But those who attempt to adopt his sound should take caution. “I’m just gonna say, ‘Don’t nobody out there step into my fu**in’ lane. Stay where you’re at,’” he warned. “I’m a competitive person and what I’m saying is I’m solidifying my lane and don’t fu**ing come over here ’cause I will f**k you up.” He explained himself further. “I want everyone to express themselves in a unique way. I’m saying that in an aggressive way ’cause that’s how I really feel, but what I mean by that is find your own thing to do and create your own lane.” Don’t expect many features on his sophomore album. “I’m a man who wants to stand on his own two feet. I don’t need a fu**ing co-sign. I don’t need that shit,” he said, while adding, “I can’t tell you who I may feature on this next album, but I guarantee you that it will be unexpected.” While we love Miguel and his music, we don’t think he’s exactly the most intimidating person in the world… Image via WENN Via Rap-Up

Jay-Z Doesn’t Operate Outside Hip-Hop

‘I see myself as part of the collective of hip-hop,’ Jay-Z tells MTV News, saying his success is good for the culture. By Rob Markman Jay-Z Photo: MTV News Jay-Z ‘s career trajectory is something else. He was once a tongue-twisting underground MC who started his own Roc-A-Fella Records independently because he couldn’t secure a major-label deal. Now Hov is rap’s biggest draw, turning his multilayered bars into multimillion-dollar businesses. In hip-hop, where so much worth is based on the notion of maintaining street credibility, it would be easy for someone of Jay-Z’s stature to lose touch. “I’m not jaded by the whole process,” Jay-Z insisted when he spoke to MTV News out in Philadelphia to announce his upcoming Made in America music festival. On that day, Jay took the stage at the Philadelphia Museum of Art with the city’s mayor, Michael Nutter, which is nothing new. On his 2009 single “On to the Next One,” Jigga bragged that he had President Obama “on the text.” Still, the man who once battled DMX while standing on top of a pool table is not desensitized. “I’m a fan of the journey as well,” he said. To his credit, Jay has remained on top of his game on the road to becoming a global icon. Just this past weekend, he performed in Paris, where he and Kanye West rocked their infectious rap hit “N—as in Paris” 11 times in front of a star-studded crowd that included wife Beyonc
