New trailer hints that all is not well in Gotham City eight years after ‘The Dark Knight.’ By Kevin P. Sullivan Tom Hardy as Bane in the new “Dark Knight Rises” trailer Photo: Warner Bros. Some lucky Batman fans got a chance to check out the brand-new trailer for “The Dark Knight Rises” over the weekend, and now Apple has the first theatrical trailer for the entire world to see. The new preview gives us our best look yet at Gotham City eight years after the end of “The Dark Knight,” and things aren’t going very well. Gordon’s tenure as commissioner may be coming to an end. Selina Kyle warns Bruce of a storm on the horizon, and Bane shows a complete disregard for football field maintenance. Here are the five key scenes from the brand-new “Dark Knight Rises” trailer. Old Man Wayne While you may have watched the bootleg of the trailer a dozen times online over the weekend, a lot of the trailer’s details didn’t translate from the pirated copy. The most intriguing detail has to be the reflection in the dish cover. It clearly shows Bruce Wayne walking toward it with a cane. Spy footage from the set hinted that an injured Wayne would have a cane, but this is the first concrete proof. Is this Bane’s work, and how badly is Wayne hurt? This could be the end of Batman that’s hinted at in the trailer. Where in the World Is Bruce Wayne? The scene from the trailer that remains largely a mystery is the one where Wayne enters the hall of staircases and asks what the chanting means. We haven’t seen anything like this setting in the series yet, but Wayne’s clothes resemble the clothes he wears in the early scenes of “Batman Begins,” during his stint in the League of Shadows. We’ve all heard that the final film in Christopher Nolan ‘s trilogy will double-back and cover some territory from the first film. Is this our first look at the return of the League of Shadows? Are You Ready for Some Foootbaaa … OH SH–! Clearly the scene everyone will be talking about, in the football stadium, Nolan tries his hand at making a disaster movie. Nothing in the series so far compares to the earthquake in the stadium in terms of destruction. Bane succeeds where other villains haven’t, and this more or less confirms the presence of the much-discussed earthquake machine. While many had their doubts, no one can deny that Nolan handles an otherwise outlandish concept with a deft and cool hand. Now imagine that in IMAX! Oh Hey, It’s Tali, I Mean, Miranda Tate There she is, the most mysterious of the new characters, Miranda Tate. When Marion Cotillard signed on to re-team with Nolan, people cried foul. The press release may have said Miranda Tate, dutiful Wayne Enterprises employee, but hard-core fans smelled a red herring. This is the first time we’re actually seeing Cotillard, but the trailer doesn’t offer much. Who is Miranda Tate? It’s clear we’ll have to wait to find out. Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-BAT-WING Photos from the set gave us glimpses at Batman’s new aerial ride, the Batwing, but seeing it in action is a whole other monster. I can’t even begin to wrap my head around what that scene is going to be like. We know that several tumblers are involved. Bane is there, and at some point, Batman unleashes the Batwing on everyone. Even though fans knew about the Batpod before “The Dark Knight” hit theaters, its reveal ranked among the film’s best moments. Expect the same treatment for the Batwing. Check out everything we’ve got on “The Dark Knight Rises.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .
‘We want to make the same music. It’s definitely a very good experience,’ Drake tells MTV News. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Felicia “The Poetess” Morris Drake Photo: MTV News Drake and Rick Ross have a lot on their plates these days. But in between promoting Take Care and Rozay putting the finishing touches on his upcoming album, Drizzy hopes that the two MCs can finish up their collaborative mixtape Y.O.L.O. (You Only Live Once) . “Yeah, it only makes sense, so hopefully. I’m actually going to Miami to see him this week, sit down and work on God Forgives and just work on whatever comes,” Drake told MTV News of the tag-team tape while backstage Power 106’s Cali Christmas Concert on Friday night. “Me and him usually do a few songs, so we’ll see where they end up.” The two rap stars have paired on a number of fan favorites, like DJ Khaled’s “I’m On One,” Rozay’s “Aston Martin Music” and most recently “Lord Knows” from Take Care . For Drake it’s all about their comfort while recording together. “If I have chemistry with anyone in the studio it’s Ross. We want to make the same music. It’s definitely a very good experience,” he said. In a November interview on “RapFix Live,” the Maybach Music head assured that Y.O.L.O. was definitely coming. At the time, he was flirting with the idea of the project becoming an official retail release. “You know, Drake, I consider him a part of the fam. It’s not just music,” Ross said. “We stay in the studio, we stay on Skype.” Last week, Ross took to Twitter to announce his plans for a new solo mixtape as well. “It’s Official Drop’n New Mixtape!!! #RozayNewTape,” he wrote. Tina Knowles , mother of super-star Beyonce , officially filed for divorce from her husband Mathew ! The final decree of divorce was issued last month in a Texas court. According to TMZ Tina filed them on August 30. This comes after much speculation into the couple’s private life, which included Mathew fathering a child outside of his and her marriage. A paternity test eventually revealed that Mathew was indeed the father of his mistress’ baby. The documents state the reason for divorce being: “insupportable because of discord or conflict of personalities” … which “prevents any reasonable expectation of reconciliation.” RELATED: Mathew Knowles, You ARE The Father! This year’s show, airing at 9 p.m. ET/PT Monday on VH1, will feature Florence Welch and a tribute to Amy Winehouse. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: Getty Images Sunday night (December 18), some of the music industry’s most-soulful divas will be taking the stage for the latest installment of “VH1 Divas.” For some, like Kelly Clarkson , it’s a return engagement, but for others, like Florence and the Machine leading lady Florence Welch, it’s the chance to display diva-like prowess for the first time. Since the show kicked off in 1998, it’s had a long history of getting some of the biggest female performers in the world on the same stage belting out some of pop’s best tunes. That first show gathered Aretha Franklin, Gloria Estefan, Celine Dion, Shania Twain and Mariah Carey, quickly becoming a pop-culture milestone. It even prompted the ladies of “Saturday Night Live” to poke fun at the over-the-top singing styles and personalities of the women chosen for the show. In the 11 years since the premiere episode of the concert special, everyone from old-school belters to new-school singing sensations have been billed as “divas.” The show ran annually until 2004, after which it took a break for several years. By the time the show was re-launched in 2009, a whole new crop of pop superstars had emerged. In ’09, Kelly Clarkson, Jordin Sparks, Leona Lewis, Jennifer Hudson, Adele and Miley Cyrus proved their diva status, taking the stage and ushering in a new era. A year later, in 2010, Nicki Minaj, Sugarland, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Keri Hilson, Paramore and Katy Perry brought some new-millennium glamour to the show. That year, the show was dedicated to supporting soldiers and billed “VH1 Divas Salute the Troops” event. This year’s show, airing at 9 p.m. ET/PT Monday on VH1, will bring Clarkson, Welch, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Jill Scott and Jessie J to the stage. In a tribute introduced by Nas, Welch, Wanda Jackson, and Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings will honor late soul singer Amy Winehouse . VH1 also will pay tribute to the prominent birthplaces of soul music, including Chicago, Detroit, London, Philadelphia and Memphis, Tennessee. The divas are expected to pay homage to these cities and the genre with their own soulful tracks as well as some of soul music’s classic tunes onstage at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom. And the celebration is not exclusive to women: The Roots have been confirmed as the event’s house band, and ?uestlove is set to pull double duty as musical director. Boyz II Men and Travie McCoy also will perform. “VH1 Divas” airs at 9 p.m. ET/PT Monday on VH1. ‘It’s really special for me,’ Florence Welch tells MTV News of performing at ‘VH1 Celebrates Soul’ airing Monday at 9 p.m. ET. By Jocelyn Vena, with additional reporting by James Montgomery Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine Photo: MTV News Florence and the Machine , Wanda Jackson and Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings will all take the stage to honor Amy Winehouse at the 2011 “VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul.” Nas, a longtime friend of the late singer, will introduce the tribute at the show, which airs Monday night at 9 p.m. ET. Two of the “Rehab” singer’s most memorable tracks will be performed. Jackson and Florence and the Machine are set to team up on “Back to Black,” while Jones & the Dap-Kings will play “You Know I’m No Good.” Both songs are off Winehouse’s 2006 breakthrough album, Back to Black. Frontwoman Florence Welch stopped by the MTV offices on Friday (December 16), and we spoke to her about what it means to appear on the popular VH1 “Divas” series. “It’s a real honor, actually, to be counted amongst these amazing female performers,” Welch told MTV News. “It’s really special for me, because I am still a relatively new artist, and to be up there with these really established singers is amazing for me. … I’m really grateful.” This year, VH1 will pay tribute to prominent birthplaces of soul music, including Chicago, Detroit, London, Memphis and Philadelphia. The divas are expected to pay homage to these cities and the genre with their own soulful tracks as well as some of classic tunes, at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom. In addition to the trio of acts mentioned above, Kelly Clarkson, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson , Jill Scott and Jessie J are all set to hit the stage for performances. And the celebration isn’t exclusive to the ladies. The Roots have been confirmed as the event’s house band, and drummer ?uestlove will pull double duty as musical director of the concert. Boyz II Men and Travie McCoy are also on the lineup. Tune in to “VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul” on Monday, December 19, at 9 p.m. ET on VH1! Paris reveals best advice Michael gave her. By Gil Kaufman Paris Jackson appears on “Ellen” Photo: Warner Bros Paris Jackson will give her first-ever solo interview on Thursday morning (December 15) when she appears on “The Ellen DeGenres Show” to promote her upcoming acting debut. After a cloistered childhood, Paris, 13, the only daughter of late pop icon Michael Jackson , opened up to Ellen about her formerly sheltered life and how her dad’s music inspired her acting. In excerpts released before the airing, Paris explained that her dad helped her prepare for her upcoming first movie role, in which she’ll play Lundon in “Lundon’s Bridge and the Three Keys,” an adaptation of the fantasy series based on writer Dennis Christen’s novels. “When I was really little my dad was in the movie ‘Moonwalker’ and I knew he could sing really well but I didn’t know he could act,” she said. “I saw that and I said, ‘Wow, I want to be just like him.’ ” She said Michael also gave her at-home acting lessons. “We would do improv together. He would give us little scenarios. He would (say), ‘OK, in this scene you’re going to cry’ and I’d cry on the spot.” In one of the most (literally) revealing moments, Paris explained what it felt like for herself and her siblings, Prince and Blanket, to wear disguises for most of their young lives. “I’m like, ‘This is stupid. Why am I wearing a mask?’ But I kind of realized the older I got like he only tried to protect us and he’d explain that to us too,” she said. The masks, in fact, helped the three kids live as normal a life as they possibly could considering that their dad was one of the most-sought-after paparazzi targets on earth. “I do have like a regular childhood,” she said. “I mean, I’m treated the same. When I came to [my new school] they didn’t know who I was. I was like, ‘Yes, I have a chance to be normal.'” When asked if she realized how big a deal her dad was when she was a child, Paris admitted, “I just thought, ‘He’s got a few songs out,’ but I figured everyone did that.” In the action-animation hybrid “Lundon,” Paris will voice the lead character, a human, in a fantasy adventure in which “sea magic turns a dolphin into a human, a teenage boy into a dragonfly and a loving jellyfish queen into an evil fairy godmother.” Among the other voices in the movie are former CNN personality Larry King and his wife, Shawn, and ex ‘NSYNC member Joey Fatone. Paris told DeGeneres that her dad warned her before his surprise death in June 2009 that he would not be around forever. “He said, ‘If I die tomorrow always remember what I told you.’ I took his advice and I remembered everything he told me,” she said.
