Madonna Confirms Interscope Deal, New Single

Singer will drop official version of ‘Gimme All Your Luvin’ in late January. By Jocelyn Vena Madonna Photo: Getty Images After rumors hit the Net on Wednesday that Madonna had signed with Interscope , fans waited to see if the ink had really dried on the contract. On Thursday (December 15), a rep for the singer confirmed the industry chatter to MTV News. In addition to signing with the label, Madge will drop her still-untitled album by the end of March. Madonna has already completed work on the LP and her single “Gimme All Your Luvin” will be released by the end of January, according to a press release. A demo version of the song, featuring rappers M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj , leaked back in November. The three ladies recently shot a video for the track and made headlines when Nicki tweeted about a kiss she shared with Madonna on set. The three-album deal with Interscope marks the latest chapter in the Queen of Pop’s career. She’ll now be labelmates with the likes of Lady Gaga and Eminem. She’ll also stay in her 10-year 360 deal, signed back in 2007, with Live Nation for all merchandising and tour-related matters. “We couldn’t be happier to work with [Interscope’s] Jimmy Iovine, [Chairman & CEO, Universal Music Group] Lucian Grainge and the entire Interscope team,” Madonna’s longtime manager Guy Oseary said in a statement. “We anticipate a very bright future at our new home.” On Thursday, the newly signed Interscope Records artist became a Golden Globe nominee for her “W.E” track “Masterpiece.” “W.E” is Madonna’s directorial effort, and her tune made the cut for Best Original Song — Motion Picture. Mumford & Sons Reveal 2011 Artists Of The Year Picks

As MTV reveals our picks for 2011’s best artists, we ask breakout stars Mumford & Sons to weigh in on their favorites. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Matt Elias Mumford & Sons’ Marcus Mumford Photo: MTV News Mumford & Sons may have stumbled onto Stateside success in 2010 with their debut disc, Sigh No More, but in 2011, they not only grew comfortable with their newfound fame , they ran with it. Sigh was the year’s best-selling rock album (by a mile), and they nabbed four Grammy nominations — including Record and Song of the Year — for their song “The Cave.” So, as 2011 draws to a close, and as MTV reveals our picks for the Artists of the Year , we’re reaching out to a host of acts who not only dominated the past 12 months, but came to define them, for their takes on the year in music. And who better to ask than Mumford, a band that began 2010 as relative unknowns but wrap up 2011 as one of the biggest rock acts in the U.S. … with a hotly anticipated new album due in 2012. We spoke to Marcus Mumford and Ben Lovett about their favorite artists of the year, and in keeping with their breakout status, they chose a thoroughly under-the-radar act … and a rapper who busted through to the big time in 2011. Of course, they could only pronounce one of their picks’ names correctly. “Dawes are a really important band for us,” Mumford said. “You would say ‘Dawes,’ because you can differentiate between ‘Dawes’ and ‘Doors’ — more like ‘Pawn’ and ‘Porn’ — where we can’t, it’s just ‘Porn’ and ‘Porn’ to us, so you never know which one we’re talking about.” “I’ve watched the video for Tyler, the Creator’s ‘Yonkers’ 50 times this year,” Lovett added. “It’s f—ing amazing. Brilliant video.” They didn’t just stop there. They’ve already picked their favorite act of 2012 too, an up-and-coming Harlem rapper who they expect big things from next year. “I just heard an incredible song by Azealia Banks called ‘212,’ ” Lovett said. “[It’s] mind-blowing.” All this week, watch “AMTV” on MTV every day at 8 a.m. ET for our Best of 2011 lists. Then, come to MTVNews.com at 5 p.m. as we reveal our top picks of the year! Katy Perry Enlists B.o.B for ‘One That Got Away’ Remix

MTV’s Artist of the Year’s new record should be available for purchase next week. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: Steve Granitz/ FilmMagic Katy Perry has teamed up with B.o.B for a remix of her song “The One That Got Away” from her album Teenage Dream . Perry’s label, Capitol, has submitted the track to radio, and it should be available for Katy Cats to buy by next week, according to Billboard.com . Perry has achieved a record five #1 singles off the album to date. Michael Jackson is the only other artist to have done the same, with his Bad album. However, if “The One” goes to #1, Katy will become the first artist with six #1 Hot 100 singles off of one album. This is not the first time Katy has remixed one of her singles. Earlier this year, she worked with Kanye West on “E.T.” (the duo won a VMA for Best Collaboration for the video) and later, Missy Elliott got onboard a remix of Perry’s single “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.).” Perry’s chart dominance was one of the factors that helped make her MTV’s 2011 Artist of the Year . She also had the #10 song of the year with “Firework.” “Hi everyone at MTV! I just want to say thank you for this amazing award,” she said in a video message. “To be Artist of the Year , a whole 365 days, that’s pretty cool. I wasn’t really allowed to watch MTV growing up, so this feels really validating,” she said. “And I’ve had a fantastic year, a great tour and a great run, and you guys have been so a part of it and such a big reason why. So thank you so much. I really appreciate it.” Related Videos Best Artists Of 2011 Debate Related Photos Best Artists Of 2011 Related Artists Katy Perry B.o.B

Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga Top Google Zeitgeist Year-End Lists

Bieber named Google’s Most Popular Person of 2011, while ‘Born This Way’ tops Fastest Rising Songs chart. By James Montgomery Justin Bieber Photo: Getty Images Let this serve as undeniable proof that, regardless of search engine, Justin Bieber truly dominates the Interwebs. Having already been named Bing’s most-searched person of 2011 , on Thursday (December 15) Bieber picked up another e-honor, as Google unveiled its annual Zeitgeist site and, in the process, declared him its Most Popular Person of the year, besting Kim Kardashian and Lady Gaga to take home the title. Nicki Minaj and, uh, Casey Anthony rounded out the top 5. It’s a fitting way to cap off a year that saw Bieber beat Gaga in the race to 2 billion YouTube views, though perhaps the Mother Monster can take solace in the fact that “Born This Way” topped Google’s Fastest-Rising Song search list, ahead of “Watch the Throne” (which, you know, isn’t actually a song ) and Blake Shelton’s “Honey Bee.” Of course, not even Bieber could best Rebecca Black on Google’s Fastest Rising Searches, as the “Friday” sensation topped the list — which tallied worldwide searches — ahead of Google Plus, Ryan Dunn, Casey Anthony and “Battlefield 3.” Breakout star Adele also made huge headways this year, landing at #7 on the list and beating out Steve Jobs and the iPad 2. Not surprisingly, Black also came in atop the Fastest-Rising People list, besting “American Idol” champ Scotty McCreery and teenage bride/ pumpkin-patch enthusiast Courtney Stodden. But when it came to the year’s most-searched images, well, neither Bieber nor Black made the cut. Instead, folks were seeking pics of Charlie Sheen above all else, followed by “Planking,” “Kim Kardashian wedding” and a trio of hair-raising (or perhaps razing ) queries: “Tom Brady Haircut,” “Selena Gomez Haircut” and “Emma Watson Haircut.” Related Videos MTV First: Justin Bieber MTV News Extended Play: Rebecca Black Related Photos Justin Bieber Takes Over The Bodies Of Other Teen Idols The Evolution Of: Lady Gaga Related Artists Lady Gaga Justin Bieber

‘To be Artist of the Year, a whole 365 days, that’s pretty cool,’ she says in a video acceptance speech. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: Getty Images Katy Perry was everywhere in 2011, and thanks to that pop-culture takeover, she was named MTV’s Artist of the Year . The honor is the culmination of an insanely busy year for Perry, but she still found a few minutes to send a big “thank you” to everyone for her incredible success over the past 12 months. “Hi everyone at MTV! I just want to say thank you for this amazing award,” she said in a video message. “To be Artist of the Year, a whole 365 days, that’s pretty cool.” Perry beat out fellow superstars Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Rihanna and Lil Wayne during our Best Artists of 2011 debate, which makes the win that much more unbelievable for the pink-haired singer. “I wasn’t really allowed to watch MTV growing up, so this feels really validating,” she said. “And I’ve had a fantastic year, a great tour and a great run, and you guys have been so a part of it and such a big reason why. So thank you so much. I really appreciate it.” Perry was all over the radio in 2011, thanks to hit singles like “E.T.,” “The One That Got Away” and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.).” She appeared on the big screen in “The Smurfs” and the small screen hosting “Saturday Night Live.” She hit the road for her California Dreams Tour, kept us captivated with videos like the VMA-winning “Firework” and “E.T.” and always had us talking, whether it was about what she was wearing, tweeting or saying. And, oh yeah, “Firework,” also happens to be MTV’s #10 Song of the Year . As 2011 comes to an end, Perry will kick off the new year with Grammy nominations for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Firework.” Stick with MTV as we count down the Best of 2011 , including the top Artists , Songs , Live Performances and EDM Artists of the year.
