During his syndicated radio show on our sister station Majic 107.5 / 97.5, Steve Harvey called out Cornel West and Tavis Smiley for their poverty bus tour, while defending President Barack Obama. After a listener sent an email about the duo’s tour being a hustle , Harvey didn’t shy away for offering his own opinion — accusing West and Smiley for using personal vendettas to damage Obama’s name. “I was a huge fan of Cornel West,” he said. “[But] Tavis, I seen him coming a mile away. His anger started when he had a town hall meeting, President Obama couldn’t come because of the campaign trail and he sent Mrs. Obama. He has held that grudge ever since.” Harvey continued his rant by referring to Smiley and West as being affiliated with UTLO.org (which stands out for “Uncle Tom Look Out”). The Cascade United Methodist Church of Atlanta recently gave struggling Morris Brown College a lifeline, when they donated $22,000 to the historically black institution. The money, which was raised during a month-long fundraising effort, helped the school eliminate its hefty debt to the U.S. Department of Education. Rev. Dr. Marvin Moss said they couldn’t let a historic part of their community go by the wayside. “We recognize the historical significance of Morris Brown College to our community and the world,” Moss said in a statement. “We are grateful that our Cascade members have answered the call during these tough economic times. VH1′s “Do Something” Awards went down last night in Hollywood, California. The non-profit organization honors people under the age of 25 who have given back to their communities and beyond, and though some of our favorite celeb ladies didn’t make cut in terms of age, they still showed face. Kerry Washington wore a sheer & sparkly, printed asymmetrical mini while Kim Kardashian wore a form-fitting, cream-colored floor length gown. But it was Tyra Banks’ outfit that got us talking: while we love the color-block trend, we’re not so sure she pulled it off as well as Janet Jackson. We just can’t put our figure on it as to why.
Photos from the Pittsburgh set continue to reveal new bits of the Christopher Nolan flick. By Eric Ditzian The Batwing on the set of “Dark Knight Rises” Ultra-secretive “Dark Knight Rises” director Christopher Nolan has met his match in the city of Pittsburgh. The filmmaker is famous for keeping his actors on spoiler-dishing lockdown, with “Inception” star Joseph Gordon-Levitt once telling us how his boss “very specifically asked [him] not to talk about” the mind-bending thriller and Anne Hathaway joking about taking a blood oath not to reveal anything about her role of Catwoman. Check out photos of the Batwing on the set of “Dark Knight Rises”! But as “Rises” continues to shoot on location in Pittsburgh, almost every day brings a fresh batch of spoiler-filled photos and videos about the comic-book flick. The latest is the first glimpse of what appears to be the Batwing, the Caped Crusader’s signature aircraft. The aircraft appears to utilize fan-driven engines and be made of a series of interlocking plates, indicating that the ship may have some sort of shape-shifting quality. Such a transformational vehicle wouldn’t be out of place in Nolan’s Gotham City; in the “Dark Knight,” part of Batman’s Tumbler turned out to contain a hidden Batpod. A YouTube video from set shows the Batwing being driven down a street during the shoot, its massive body gyrating back and forth, a Batman dummy placed in the cockpit. In his many comic book, TV and film incarnations, Batman has long had an aerial vehicle. Tim Burton, in 1989’s “Batman,” introduced the idea of (and the name for) the Batwing. Nolan thus far has not delivered anything of the sort. “Dark Knight Rises,” however, seems to be utilizing a slew of vehicles for the film, from a bunch of camouflaged Tumblers to Hathaway’s Catwoman on the Batpod itself to this new aircraft. And while we know far more at this point about “Dark Knight Rises” than we ever could have expected, and certainly more than Nolan would likely prefer, there remains much we don’t know. Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch The Throne collaborative album released exclusively to itunes last week Monday August 8. According to several reports, the album has broken a itunes sales record. Jay-Z and Kanye beat out Coldplay for the best first week sales on itunes. Watch The Throne moved 290,000 copies breaking Coldplay’s previous record with their 2008 Viva La Vida album, which sold 155,000 copies. Jay and Kanye can really go on that joyride in the maybach stunt car for real now. “The View’s” Sherri Shepherd married fiance Lamar Sally over the weekend in Chicago. Sherri’s son Jeffrey walked his mom down the aisle for her second marriage. Sherri tells Life & Style magazine: “Second chances really do happen, and I got mine! I’m married now!” The bride wore a custom Rivini gown, and her bridesmaids, which included Niecy Nash, Kim Whitley and Elisabeth Hasselbeck, wore custom gowns made by Carmen Marc Valvo.
