Tyra Banks was spotted doing a photo shoot in NYC with four other models, looking crazy! Tyra was wearing a pink jumpsuit with words like “seven”, “zip-zap” and “tookie” written on it. She also wore knee-high boots. Tyra’s four models were dressed as I don’t know what. They wore afros, fake eyes and green outfits. Only one model was wearing heels. The other girls were in boat shoes and Tyra was climbing on streets signs looking like a straight up fool. I need an explanation for this! Odd Future MC’s ‘Yonkers’ video up for Video of the Year and Best New Artist. By Rob Markman Tyler, the Creator Photo: MTV News Who says Tyler, the Creator is a foul-mouthed malcontent? Well, the foul-mouth part is true, but when the Odd Future standout learned that his video for “Yonkers” received two MTV Video Music Awards nominations, he couldn’t have been happier, as seen in his Wednesday night tweets. “Video Of The F—ing Year. What The F—,” he wrote before tweeting that he was about to “Pass The F— Out.” Tyler’s self-directed “Yonkers” clip was uploaded to Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All’s YouTube page back in February. Now five months and 15 million views later, the black-and-white vid earned the Goblin rapper VMA nominations in the Best New Artist and Video of the Year categories. Simple-yet-effective, “Yonkers” starts off with the rapper seated on a stool, performing the song’s lyrics while playing with a large cockroach, which he later vomits. A visibly disturbed Tyler continues to rap the track’s second verse, stripping off his shirt then putting his neck in a noose. In the video’s shocking ending, the MC stands up on the chair and kicks the stool from under his feet as his legs dangle in a simulated suicide. “Damn, I’m Looking At The Video Treatment I wrote In This Blackberry Back In Jan. F—!” Tyler wrote beside a link to the clip. In all, the rapper/ producer/ video director fired off more than 40 reactionary tweets , even threatening to go on a killing spree if he lost Video of the Year to Bruno Mars. Still, through the profanity-laced celebration, Tyler is just overjoyed: “So F—ing Happy F—!!!” he tweeted . “I Cried Legit. Jared Leto tells MTV News the band will fly overnight from Ireland just to make it to the big show. By James Montgomery At last year’s Video Music Awards , 30 Seconds to Mars wreaked havoc on the white carpet , very nearly blinded drummer Shannon Leto with a “glitter bomb” and took home the award for Best Rock Video — all within the span of roughly three hours. Needless to say, it was a night they’ll remember for a long time. Now that their epic, ultra-NSFW “Hurricane” video has been nominated for a trio of awards — Best Cinematography, Best Direction and Best Editing — at the 2011 VMAs, how do they plan to top last year’s madness? Well, for starters, they’re going to show up. “I’m not sure if the technical awards are even on the show, but we definitely plan on being there. We’re in Ireland the night before, so it will be a last-minute sort of thing,” frontman Jared Leto told MTV News. “I’m not sure what’ll happen after that. But there’s no way we’d miss the show. It’s incredibly humbling and exciting to be acknowledged, especially for a very controversial clip like ‘Hurricane,’ that was banned from a lot of networks to start with. It’s great to have it come full-circle and be recognized in this way.” And that controversy — the “Hurricane” clip had to be drastically cleaned up to even be considered at most networks — is just part of the video’s mystique. Because more than any of the projects Leto pours his heart into, this one was a true labor of love. “It was a very DIY project. It wasn’t like, ‘OK, here’s your two days to shoot, you got your crew and everything’s professional.’ It was very much a guerrilla-style effort, very much a sculpture of sight and sound that we built, and it was great to go through that process that way,” Leto explained. “We shot three days in New York, and then I kept shooting and shooting and shooting. I shot many cities around the states and outside the states. We were editing on the bus. I had a great team of people that helped me on this and many other things. [Videos are] as important to us as the songs themselves. I spend as much time on these little mini-movies as I do on the songs themselves. “I wish there was an award for doing the most with the least. We would’ve won that one, for sure,” he laughed. “We ended up with almost a 14-minute piece, and then another seven to 10 other clips that explored other characters and themes in addition to the video itself.” So, yes, 30 Seconds to Mars will be there on August 28, when the VMAs air live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. And while they might not bring any glitter this time around, they’ll definitely be hoping to repeat the other part of last year’s show: winning. “Being nominated is great, winning is even better, but at the end of the day, it’s the work that’s really the most important, and the people who are enjoying it,” Leto said. “The acknowledgement of the project is really great.” The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT. With four nominations, Mars gives props to his choreographers, congratulates his competitors and urges ‘hooligans’ to vote. The singer/songwriter, who has been on an epic roll over the past 12 months, got some seriously great news when it was revealed that he scored four nominations for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards . The man behind Cee Lo Green’s epic hit “Forget You,” not to mention hits by Travie McCoy and his own smashes such as “Just the Way You Are” and “The Lazy Song,” was beside himself when the news hit, tweeting a series of responses to his first-ever VMA noms . “VMAs!!!!” he wrote just as the announcements were going out, followed by “4 Nominations!?!?!?! THANK YOU @MTV.” He also gave some serious props to the “America’s Best Dance Crew” troupe Poreotics, who appeared disguised as monkeys in his “Lazy Song” video, which was nominated in the Best Choreography category. “YO @POREOTICS – LAZY SONG NOMINATED FOR BEST CHOREOGRAPHY!! #VMAs #MoNKeySwAG!!” he wrote. ‘Nine? I thought that was a typo or something!’ the ‘E.T.’ star says after MTV Video Music Award nominations are revealed. Well, if you’re Katy Perry , that winning combination gets you the most nominations at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards . “I have nine nominations!” Perry shouted when she heard about her noms from MTV News’ Sway during Wednesday’s night’s (July 20) on-air nominations event. “Nine? I thought that was a typo or something! Oh my god, really? That’s the most nominations I’ve ever gotten for anything,” she added excitedly. Perry was in Seattle when we caught up with her as she took some time off from her busy California Dreams Tour to react to the news of her many VMA nods. So, what exactly is she up for? Perry will be competing for Video of the Year and Best Female Video for “Firework”; Best Pop Video for “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)”; and Best Collaboration, Best Art Direction, Best Direction, Best Editing and Best Special Effects for the Floria Sigismondi-directed “E.T.,” which features fellow nominee Kanye West. Her dreamy “Teenage Dream” clip even nabbed a nomination for Best Cinematography. “I’m so excited. I’m nervous like it’s my first time,” she said during the MTV.com live stream held backstage, where fans caught a glimpse of the pop star getting ready to take the stage. On latest Watch the Throne track, duo trade bars over soul classic ‘Try a Little Tenderness.’ By Rob Markman Jay-Z and Kanye West Photo: Getty Images Otis is back, Otis is back! The King of Soul may have passed 40-plus years ago, but Jay-Z and Kanye West have resurrected Redding’s spirit on a new track off their highly anticipated Watch the Throne LP . On Wednesday (July 20), Hov and ‘Ye’s “Otis” premiered on New York City DJ Funkmaster Flex’s Hot 97 radio show , and then spread throughout the Internet. “Otis” opens with a slowed-down refrain lifted from Redding’s 1966 version of “Try a Little Tenderness.” The musical icon wails, “It makes it easier, easier to bare,” shortly before the piano sample is chopped and reworked. As the bass line is ushered in and the drums drop, Jay shouts out, “Sounds so soulful, wouldn’t you agree?” before tearing into his boastful bars. “I invented swag, poppin’ bottles, puttin’ supermodels in a cab,” Hov rhymes before going on about his super-exclusive watch collection. Only eight bars pass before Jay tosses the mic to West, who picks up where his Big Brother left off. “Damn, Yeezy and Hov, where the hell you been/ N—as talkin’ real reckless, stuntmen/ I adopted these n—as, Phillip Drummond ’em,” ‘Ye raps, turning the fictional father from the 1980s sitcom “Diff’rent Strokes” into an actual verb. Another eight bars pass and Jay once again takes over, looking like “wealth” and contemplating calling the paparazzi on himself — he’s that rich. But despite the pair’s status in rap and their platinum success, this is no pop affair. There is no deep introspection, no intricate instrumentation, just a dusty hip-hop loop and street-bred rhymes. At one point, Jigga even threatens to murder anyone who takes issue with Kanye. Perhaps West describes it best when he spits about his “sophisticated ignorance,” and that’s just what Hov exemplifies on his last verse as he seeks political asylum for his murderous rhymes in Cuba. “Welcome to Havana, smoking Cubanos with Castro in cabanas,” he raps before volleying back to the Louis Vuitton Don, who channels Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock’s 1998 hip-hop classic “Top Billin’ ” when he delivers, “Jay is chillin’, ‘Ye is chillin’/ What more can I say? We killin’ ’em.” The Watch the Throne rollout has kept fans confused. With an unconfirmed August 1 release date and no certifiable radio hit in sight, fans can only use “Otis” and the previously released “H.A.M.” to judge what they might expect from the LP. The latter wasn’t very well-received, but if the latest leak is any indication, Jay-Z and Kanye West won’t be relinquishing the rap throne any time soon. What do you think of Jay and Kanye’s “Otis”? Perry nabbed nine nominations for the August 28 awards show, including bids for Best Pop Video, Best Collaboration, Best Direction, Best Special Effects and the biggie, Video of the Year, for her smash ” Firework ” clip. Close on her heels is another diva who’s had a breakout year: British songbird Adele, who rolled up seven nominations for her hit ” Rolling in the Deep ” from 21, the best-selling album so far of 2011.
