Sarah Palin Movie Coming Soon to Theater, Presidential Campaign Near You

For a while now, Sarah Palin has been the X-factor in the quest for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012. The former Alaska governor has a few hurdles to clear before officially declaring her candidacy — not the least of which is her abdication of her office in 2009 with more than a year left in her term, which raised concerns in the GOP about her ability to lead and/or follow through. But! That’s nothing a pro-Palin documentary — made with her cooperation and debuting next month — shouldn’t be able to fix.

Despite Kung Fu Panda 2, Female Animation Directors Are Few and Far Between

In this age of director-as-personality — witness Todd Phillips’ hilariously brash interview tactics as the most recent example of this phenomenon — it’s rare that a blockbuster hits theaters with someone anonymous behind the camera. Which is what makes the release of Kung Fu Panda 2 so extraordinaire. Despite being the sequel to one of the bigger animations hits of the last five years, precious little has been written about its director, Jennifer Yuh Nelson. Though that might have more to do with her gender than anything else.

Monsters University’s New Logo: A Little Sophomoric

I know everyone’s rankings of Pixar’s best movies are all wrong except mine, but I hope we can agree that Monsters, Inc. clocks in near the top of the list. Keep your self-important WALL *E and your maudlin Finding Nemo ; I think the imagination of Monsters, Inc (and that insane door world) bests them both. Now that you’ve agreed, let’s observe the logo for the 2012 sequel Monsters University . It better be temporary.

Even the most cynical among us are probably looking forward to seeing what Brad Bird can do with Tom Cruise and Jeremy Renner in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol come next December. Can the Pixar genius help resurrect Cruise’s career in ways that don’t involve Les Grossman? Will Renner provide enough star wattage to carry on the franchise himself? Will Tom Cruise affect a Russian accent at any time during the film to coincide with this uniform ? What will Simon Pegg be doing? Regarding that last one, the Paul star posted a picture to his Twitter feed that might help answer that query.

Is it too early to assume that Toy Story 3 will run away with this year’s Best Animated Feature Oscar? Well, let’s put it this way: If the Pixar blockbuster is somewhere in the middle of the Best Picture pack , and none of the other, just-announced 14 submissions for Animated Feature are even in the Picture conversation, that kind of invalidates the Animation competition as a whole, right?
