Glee, House and Fringe Highlight Fox’s Fall Premiere Schedule

Need further proof that the summer is over? Fox became the second network in seven days to announce their plans for what’s ostensibly known as fall’s “Premiere Week,” and despite the looming presence of the Major League Baseball playoffs, they’ll be launching most of their new shows and old favorites during the pre-approved starting week of September 20. For Gleeks, that means they’re only 10 weeks away from watching how Ryan Murphy may squander all the goodwill he’s gotten in the last year — fingers crossed for a previously unreported serial killer plot! The full Fox schedule after the jump.

Ridley Scott Plans User-Generated YouTube Documentary

Scott and director Kevin Macdonald will compile footage from users all over the world for ‘Life in a Day.’ By Eric Ditzian Ridley Scott Photo: Jim Spellman/WireImage After working with Leonardo DiCaprio, Denzel Washington, Susan Sarandon and Russell Crowe, Ridley Scott is gearing up for a new film project, and apparently he wants you to be his star. Really. Scott, in a producer role, and director Kevin Macdonald (“The Last King of Scotland”) announced on Tuesday their plans to team with YouTube to generate what they’re calling “the first user-generated feature-length documentary.” Called “Life in a Day,” the film will be made entirely of footage shot during the 24 hours of July 24, 2010. Anyone in the world can participate and then upload their content to YouTube.com/lifeinaday . Participants will be credited as co-directors if their footage makes it into the finished film. The doc will premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, and 20 of the participants will be flown to Park City, Utah, for the event. ” ‘Life in a Day’ is a time capsule that will tell future generations what it was like to be alive on the 24th of July, 2010,” Macdonald said in a press release. “It is a unique experiment in social filmmaking, and what better way to gather a limitless array of footage than to engage the world’s online community.” Scott’s production company has teamed with Rick Smolan, CEO of Against All Odds Prods., a California-based operation that helps execute large-scale global projects, to deliver cameras to remote areas of the world to guarantee that the doc will represent as wide a swath of the human experience as possible. “A vital part of our mission is to support individual storytelling around the globe and to provide a platform for expression and experimentation,” Sundance director John Cooper said. “This is a great way to engage the YouTube community and to provide festival audiences with something new and unexpected.” What would you film for your own “Life in a Day” movie? Are you going to participate? Talk about it in the comments. For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Feds suing to stop Ariz. immigrant law

The U.S. Justice Department is filing a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Arizona's tough new law targeting illegal immigrants. The planned lawsuit was confirmed to The Associated Press by a Justice Department official with knowledge of the plans. The official didn't want to be identified before a public announcement planned for later Tuesday. The lawsuit will argue that Arizona's new measure requiring state and local police to question and possibly arrest illegal immigrants during the enforcement of other laws, like traffic stops, usurps federal authority. Tuesday's action has been expected for weeks. President Barack Obama has called the state law misguided. Supporters say it is a reasonable reaction to federal inaction on immigration. added by: Stoneyroad

Susan Sarandon Toys With Ping-Pong Series

Nearly six months after her ping-pong debut on the Tonight Show , Susan Sarandon is making her new hobby the subject of a docuseries. The Oscar-winning actress told People about her plans to film the young players who frequent SPiN, a New York City ping-pong club she helped fund earlier this year: “We’re just in the early filming stages now. We want the tone of it to be funny and quite different than anything else that anybody’s seen before.” I guess this makes Gwyneth Paltrow’s taco-making tutorial almost seem relevant. [ People ]

Ten Stories In The News That The BP Oil Spill Is Overshadowing

Corporate media does it’s best to keep you uninformed… The mainstream media is running a 24 hour news cycle focusing purely on the BP oil spill, a disaster, as we have shown, that is being intentionally hyped in order to sell cap and trade legislation and moves to nationalize big business. In the wake of this, big important news stories are being overlooked. Here are just some of the stories, in no particular order, that you should be hearing on the nightly news, but of course, are not. 1. Israeli nuclear submarines positioned close to Iran: Three German-built Israeli submarines equipped with nuclear cruise missiles are to be deployed in the Gulf near the Iranian coastline. The first has been sent in response to Israeli fears that ballistic missiles developed by Iran, Syria and Hezbollah, a political and military organisation in Lebanon, could hit sites in Israel, including air bases and missile launchers. The submarines of Flotilla 7 — Dolphin, Tekuma and Leviathan — have visited the Gulf before. But the decision has now been taken to ensure a permanent presence of at least one of the vessels. ** 2. Iran war propaganda: US intelligence has shown Iran could launch an attack against Europe with “scores or hundreds” of missiles, prompting major changes to US missile defenses, Pentagon chief Robert Gates said on Thursday. The anti-Iran rhetoric has amplified following the revelation that many Bilderberg members, including Zbigniew Brzezinski, are now in favor of U.S. air strikes on Iran and are “leaning towards war,”. “Some of them in Europe are saying no we shouldn’t do it but most of them are in favor of American air strikes on Iran,” Bilderberg sluth Jim Tucker relayed from the recent meeting in Spain. “They’re tilting heavily towards green lighting a U.S. attack on Iran.” ** 3. The continuing economic slide: The greatest bankster heist in history and the looming greatest depression rumbles on. Gold has hit record highs as the dollar slumps and the Euro continues to face complete collapse. Unemployment figures in the U.S. are through the roof and U.S. consumer prices posted their largest fall in nearly 1-1/2 years in May. Rumours in Europe persist regarding an impending bailout for spain, while Russia says it is ready to found a “new economic world order“. ** 4. FCC ready to restrict the Internet: The federal government would have “absolute power” to shut down the Internet under the terms of a new US Senate bill being pushed by Joe Lieberman, legislation which would hand President Obama a figurative “kill switch” to seize control of the world wide web in response to a Homeland Security directive. Lieberman has been pushing for government regulation of the Internet for years under the guise of cybersecurity, but this new bill goes even further in handing emergency powers over to the feds which could be used to silence free speech under the pretext of a national emergency. 5. Obama/Blagojevich story As the Blagojevich trial continues and important details emerge, linking Obama to possible political corruption, Federal prosecutors are seeking a gag order to keep the ex-Governor and his lawyers from making public comments. ** 6. UN small arms treaty Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recently announced that the Obama Administration would be working hand in glove with the U.N. to pass a new “Small Arms Treaty.” Congressman Paul Broun warns that, “With willing one-world accomplices in Washington, D.C., gun-grabbers around the globe believe they have it made.” Broun characterizes the U.N.’s Small Arms Treaty as “nothing more than a massive, GLOBAL gun control scheme.” The treaty would force national governments to acquiesce to a global gun registry, while strengthening licensing procedures so as to make it almost impossible for a citizen to legally purchase a gun. It would also ban the private sale of semi-automatic weapons and ultimately lead to the confiscation and destruction of all “unauthorized” firearms owned by citizens. By encapsulating the gun grab within a treaty, the Obama administration could claim that no Senate approval is needed to authorize any such move against the right to bear arms – although whether a treaty trumps the Constitution is a very murky area of debate. ** 7. Mexicans riot in LA/Land given over to Mexico Violent scenes following the LA Lakers’ championship-clinching win over the Boston Celtics in the NBA finals saw angry mobs smashing their way through the streets waving Mexican flags as they went. Meanwhile, a massive stretch of Arizona has become effectively off limits to Americans, Prompting questions over whether the Obama administration is giving a major strip of the south-west back to Mexico. ** 8. Obama Plans To Sneak Through Carbon Tax By Stealth President Obama is planning to sneak through his job-killing, economy wrecking carbon tax by stealth according to the Washington Post, by passing a weakened bill and then adding in cap and trade provisions after the heat is off following the November elections. Described as the “lame duck climate strategy,” Obama is planning to secure enough votes in the Senate to pass a weakened energy bill and then drag out the conference long enough to ensure the stronger provisions contained in the original House version are added “after lawmakers have faced voters in November, thereby cushioning the vote’s political impact.” ** 9. Afghanistan Mineral Riches Story Is War Propaganda News that the U.S. has suddenly discovered $1 trillion-worth of mineral deposits in Afghanistan, and descriptions of the bounty as a “game changer” by the corporate media, represent nothing more than crude war propaganda designed to reinvigorate public support for a failing and ever more pointless occupation. The “newly discovered” riches have been known about since the 1970s and further revelations indicate that the Pentagon report cited by the New York Times as their source for the story did not even mention the untapped mineral deposits in Afghanistan. ** 10. Free Speech Gag Bill Moving in House H.R. 5175, The so-called DISCLOSE Act would severely limit the ability of political groups to communicate to their members and the general public. Politico reports that , the NRA bargained for an exemption for itself and other large, established groups while trampling the rights of private citizens, new political groups, like Ron Paul’s Campaign for Liberty, and other small organizations. As John Bresnahan reports, “The proposal would exempt organizations that have more than 1 million members, have been in existence for more than 10 years, have members in all 50 states and raise 15 percent or less of their funds from corporations… The NRA, with 4 million members, will not actively oppose the DISCLOSE Act, according to Democratic sources.” added by: im1mjrpain

Florida Gulf Oil Spill: Plans to Evacuate Tampa Bay Area Are In Place : Veterans Today

Hernando County Political Buzz Examiner By Maryann Tobin Note to readers: This reprint of Maryann Tobin’s news story has over 14,700 reads as of June 24th. UPDATED: June 14, 2010 Gulf Oil Spill 2010: Plans to evacuate Tampa Bay area are in place. As FEMA and other government agencies prepare for what is now being called the worst oil spill disaster in history, plans to evacuate the Tampa Bay area are in place. The plans would be announed in the event of a controlled burn of surface oil in the Gulf of Mexico, or if wind or other conditions are expected to take toxic fumes through Tampa Bay. This practice has been used by the US Forestry service, when fire and smoke threaten the health and well being of people. The elderly and those with respiratory problems would be more susceptible to health risks, in the event of a controlled burn. Estimates of the rate of BP’s Deepwater Horizon oil spill have varied. Independent scientists now suggest that the true spill rate, before the riser pipe was cut off in June, was between 20,000 and 50,000 barrels a day. Since the April 20th explosion, which resulted in the sinking of the Deepwater Horizon rig, there have been more than a million gallons of chemicals poured into the Gulf of Mexico in efforts to break up the spill. The chemicals have come under scrutiny because of their own toxic nature. It is not certain if the massive slick will have to be set on fire near Tampa Bay, but the possibility has not been ruled out. BP has been using controlled burnes as a way to contain the oil spill since the crisis began. Plans to do additional controlled burns around the well site were announced by Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen at a briefing in early June added by: Monkey_Films

Kristen Stewart Holds Out Hope For ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’

‘I’m booked for, like, the next six months, but it’s an incredible project,’ actress says at ‘Eclipse’ premiere. By Adam Rosenberg, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Kristen Stewart Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Plans for a Hollywood-produced adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s book “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” and its two “Millennium Trilogy” follow-ups — “The Girl Who Played With Fire” and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest” — have been ramping up lately. Producer Scott Rudin and filmmaker David Fincher are in pre-production for the first movie now and expected to wrap up the casting soon. One of the names mentioned as a contender for the lead role of Lisbeth Salander is “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart. When MTV News spoke to Stewart about “Dragon Tattoo” at Thursday night’s red-carpet premiere of “Eclipse,” she sounded as unsure as anyone else about who would star in the movie. But her own schedule might prevent her from taking on the role of the diminutive-but-tough-as-nails punk computer hacker. “I think I’m going to be working,” Stewart said. “I’m booked for, like, the next six months, but it’s an incredible project. I hope someone really cool does it, because I can’t wait to see it. But I don’t know if it’s going to be me.” Stewart said she hasn’t even met with Fincher. “I’m working, and he’s really busy,” she said. Stewart’s a realist though; she’s been in Hollywood for long enough to understand that things can change, anything can happen. “Who knows? Movies push all the time.” Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley and Natalie Portman have also expressed interest in starring in the adaptation of the Swedish thriller. According to TheWrap.com , Daniel Craig is in talks to star as Mikael Blomkvist, a journalist who’s hired to find a woman who has been missing for 40 years. “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” has already been the subject of an adaptation from Danish director Niels Arden Oplev. The critically acclaimed movie opened in Denmark and Sweden in February 2009 and was released in the United States earlier this year. Condom ‘with teeth’ a World Cup weapon

South African Dr. Sonnet Ehlers was on call one night four decades ago when a devastated rape victim walked in. Her eyes were lifeless; she was like a breathing corpse. “She looked at me and said, 'If only I had teeth down there,'” recalled Ehlers, who was a 20-year-old medical researcher at the time. “I promised her I'd do something to help people like her one day.” Forty years later, Rape-aXe was born. Ehlers is distributing the female condoms in the various South African cities where the World Cup soccer games are taking place. The woman inserts the latex condom like a tampon. Jagged rows of teeth-like hooks line its inside and attach on a man's penis during penetration, Ehlers said. Once it lodges, only a doctor can remove it — a procedure Ehlers hopes will be done with authorities on standby to make an arrest. http://edition.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/africa/06/20/south.africa.female.condom/index…. added by: TravG73
