Controversial college basketball standout Marshall Henderson has been suspended by the University of Mississippi for reasons not made public. Fox Sports hottie Erin Andrews promptly took a shot at the notorious hoops hothead on Twitter, and Henderson was none too pleased about it. There was no indication of how long the suspension will last or if Henderson, who would be a senior guard, will be allowed to play basketball next fall. While it’s not clear why he got suspended, Henderson was already considered one of the NCAA’s most abrasive players, so few were surprised. Erin Andrews certainly wasn’t, and the two traded barbs after the reporter re-tweeted a CBS report alleging that Henderson failed a drug test: USA Today recalls (via this great GIF) that Henderson executed an incendiary, mocking Gator Chomp during Ole Miss’ game against Florida this year. Andrews, a Florida graduate, was not a fan. Henderson has pledged to mock her a second time now … but it’s far from certain when he’ll get back on the basketball court in order to do so.

Vanderbilt Football Player Lets Teammates Assault Girlfriend Via Deadspin reports: While Nashville police have yet to release details of a sex crimes investigation that led to the dismissal of four Vanderbilt football players, allegations are starting to emerge through other channels. Former Volunteers quarterback Erik Ainge disclosed some of those details this morning on his Tennessee Sports Radio program, and they’re ugly. Ainge opted not to reveal any names, saying only that four players were involved and that after a night of drinking one player “allowed” the other three to rape his girlfriend. “They were out,” Ainge said, “they were drinking, boyfriend Vandy football player had sex with his girlfriend, then allowed his three teammates with him to also have sex with his girlfriend, and she did not want that to be the case.” The case is being taken seriously enough by authorities, certainly; the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is involved and testing evidence in its crime lab. Vandy recently suspended four football players amid a sex scandal… Vanderbilt announced the suspension of four players for a violation of team rules, seemingly connected to a sexual assault investigation into an incident that allegedly happened at a Vanderbilt dorm, at 5:30 p.m. Eastern on a Friday. According to NFL.com, questions have arisen over the recruitment of New York Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith, who dumped his agent soon after this year’s draft and signed with Roc Nation Sports . Under league rules, no one outside of a certified agent is permitted from meeting with prospective clients. But Smith’s adviser, John Thornton, has said Smith and Jay-Z “connected” during a recent visit, though he later claimed to have been misquoted. NFL is investigating shady Jay … NFL Investigates Jay Z’s Roc Nation Sports Recruitment With Geno Smith The NFL Players Association is investigating Roc Nation’s recruitment of New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith, according to union sources. The union is planning to send a letter of inquiry to Roc Nation Sports agent Kim Miale to gather more information about Jay-Z’s involvement in courting Smith. The recently instituted “runner rule” prohibits agents from having colleagues or friends who aren’t NFLPA certified agents present for recruiting meetings. Earlier this week, Smith’s adviser John Thornton, a former NFL defensive tackle, was quoted by CBS as saying “I was in those meetings, and Jay-Z connected with him on many levels.” Thornton later said he was misquoted. The real smoking gun might be a picture that Smith posted of Jay-Z and himself on Instagram during the quarterback’s recent re-recruitment process, which kicked off after Smith fired agent Jeff Nalley. Smith is Miale’s third client, per NFLPA records, following linebacker Brandon Hicks, who spent time in the Bills’ and Steelers’ training camps the last two summers, and arena league kicker Carlos Martinez. The NFLPA previously sent a letter of inquiry to CAA mega-agent Tom Condon after Condon signed Victor Cruz, who is using Roc Nation for his marketing. Via NYPost reports : A contrite Sergio Garcia sat before reporters in a hastily convened press conference yesterday in England and issued a public apology for racially insensitive comments he made about Tiger Woods at a European Tour awards dinner the night before. Garcia, whose feud with Woods became highly public and seemed to reach a boiling point two weeks ago when they clashed at The Players Championship, was jokingly asked at the dinner if he would invite Woods for dinner during the U.S. Open. In an attempt to deliver a funny response, Garcia said, “We will have him ’round every night. We will serve fried chicken.” The remark ignited a firestorm because of its racist connotations and led to Garcia’s apology. What kind of financial backlash ensues for Garcia is yet to be known, but his most prominent and highest-paying sponsor is TaylorMade-adidas Golf, and the company issued a rather open-ended statement that left the petulant Spaniard hanging. “Sergio Garcia’s recent comment was offensive and in no way aligns with TaylorMade-adidas Golf’s values and corporate culture,’’ the statement read. “We have spoken with Sergio directly and he clearly has regret for his statement and we believe he is sincere. We discussed with Sergio that his comments are clearly out of bounds and we are continuing to review the matter.’’ A TaylorMade source told The Post that Garcia earns slightly more than $5 million per year in his endorsement contract. Asked how “continuing to review the matter’’ should be interpreted, the source said it is possible the company would make a more definitive statement “by the end of the week.’’ The source, echoing what much of the sentiment around golf is, said, “[Garcia] says stupid things sometimes, but he is not racist. He’s just dumb sometimes, not a bad guy.’’ Garcia attempted to back up that notion with his profuse apology at Wentworth, where he is playing in the BMW PGA Championship. “To start with … I didn’t mean to offend anyone,’’ Garcia said. “I obviously was caught off-guard by the question, but I understand that my answer was totally stupid and out of place. I’ve had this sick feeling all day. Unfortunately, I said it. I wish I didn’t do it, but the only thing I can do is say sorry.’’ Garcia said he was not aware of the similarly insensitive Fuzzy Zoeller comments made about Woods at the 1997 Masters (when Garcia was 17) until he was informed yesterday. After Woods won the Masters in 1997, Zoeller said, “You pat him on the back and say congratulations and enjoy it and tell him not serve fried chicken next year [at the annual champion’s dinner]. Or collard greens or whatever the hell they serve.” In that fallout, Zoeller immediately lost his highest paying endorsement contract (K-Mart) and was skewered so severely that his career was never the same again. The next time Garcia and Woods will play in the same tournament together will be at the U.S. Open next month at Merion.
