‘James Bond 23’ To Return With Daniel Craig, Studio Says

MGM also announces a November 9, 2012, release date for the previously delayed ‘007’ film. By Kara Warner Daniel Craig and Sam Mendes Photo: Gabriel Bouys/ AFP There’s exciting news for James Bond fans! On Tuesday (January 11), after months of rumors about the fate of MGM — which owns the rights to the “007” franchise — the studio has given the 23rd film in the series a release date and secured “Casino Royale” and “Quantum of Solace” star Daniel Craig to suit up as Bond once again. According to Deadline , the still-untitled film will be released worldwide on November 9, 2012, with Sam Mendes directing a screenplay written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan. While plot details are, as expected, heavily under wraps, we already know that in addition to Craig’s return, Dame Judi Dench will reprise her role as M. “I think I’m going to be needed in spring of 2011,” Dench told MTV News way back in 2009. “That’s a message I got. It would mean I could do something at the end of next year, something else, maybe be in the theater.” Among the other players still to be determined are a likely Bond girl, played in previous films by the likes of Halle Berry (“Die Another Day”), Teri Hatcher (“Tomorrow Never Dies”), Denise Richards (“The World Is Not Enough”) and the woman who started it all, classic beauty-in-a-bikini Ursula Andress (“Dr. No”). With regard to villains, Michael Sheen’s name has been tossed in the mix for the role of Blofeld , a character perhaps more well-known these days as the inspiration for Mike Myers’ Dr. Evil in the “Austin Powers” movies. But there’s no rule in Bond films that says the villain has to be male — or that there will only be one. Who’s your pick for the next Bond girl or Bond villain? Tell us in the comments! University of Pittsburgh Fires New Head Coach After 17 Days Due To Baby Mama Drama

How you get fired on New Year’s Day, Craig??? Oh, you were choking your baby mama out. Former Miami (Ohio) University coach Mike Haywood was about to seriously come up career-wise, having landed a prestigious position as the head of the University of Pittsburgh football program… even though he was nowhere near as qualified as his predecessors. And then his baby mama stood up against his violent a** and f*cked EVERYBODY’s checks up. Pittsburgh fired football coach Mike Haywood on Saturday, saying he could not continue in the job he held for only 2½ weeks because of his arrest on a domestic violence charge. Haywood was released Saturday from St. Joseph County Jail in Indiana on $1,000 cash bond, said an officer at the jail who declined to give her name, after the charge was upgraded from a misdemeanor to felony domestic battery in the presence of a minor. Within hours of Haywood’s afternoon release, Pittsburgh put out a statement from Chancellor Mark A. Nordenberg, saying Haywood had been dismissed, “effective immediately,” and the school was reopening its search. “To be clear, the university’s decision is not tied to any expectation with respect to the terms on which the legal proceeding now pending in Indiana might ultimately be concluded,” Nordenberg said in the statement. “Instead, it reflects a strong belief that moving forward with Mr. Haywood as our head coach is not possible under the existing circumstances.” Pitt moved swiftly to oust Haywood following an arrest that sullied a university that is proud of its Big Ten-like academics. It also raised questions why Haywood — who had only two seasons as a mid-major head coach, including a one-win season — was chosen Dec. 16 following a brief search. Haywood was arrested about 3 p.m. Friday after a custody issue developed with a woman with whom Haywood has a child, police said. The unidentified woman told police that Haywood grabbed her by the arm and neck and pushed her as she tried to leave the home that Haywood owns in South Bend, Ind., where he once was a Notre Dame assistant. Assistant St. Joseph County Police Chief Bill Redman said the woman had marks on her neck, arms and back. Haywood’s hiring by athletic director Steve Pederson was greeted unenthusiastically by fans, boosters, alumni and students who questioned why a school with annual Top 25 aspirations hired him away from mid-major Miami (Ohio). Dave Wannstedt, forced to resign last month following a disappointing 7-5 season, had coached two NFL teams before his 2004 hiring. “This is a matter of real regret for the many people at Pitt who had looked forward to working with him,” Nordenberg said. “However, head coaches are among the university’s most visible representatives and are expected to maintain high standards of personal conduct and to avoid situations that might reflect negatively on the university.” Pederson emphasized Haywood would be a “role model” for Pitt’s players, most of whom wanted Wannstedt retained following seasons of nine, 10 and seven wins. But Haywood’s introductory press conference, in which he never mentioned the word winning but repeatedly emphasized that his players would be disciplined, dress properly and attend class, was met with a lukewarm response. Oh, so basically they were looking for a reason to fire you, and you handed it to them on a platter. You big dummy. Source

Make It Rain On Them Hoes: Mike Vick’s Redemption Is Complete

Video Game Vick ‘s comeback season just got a little sweeter. The Eagles’ quarterback, who sat out two seasons while serving a federal sentence for dogfighting, will start for the NFC in the Jan. 30 Pro Bowl in Honolulu. Vick was selected in a leaguewide vote by NFL players, coaches and fans. Vick made three Pro Bowls with Atlanta before he was suspended by the league and served jail time for running a dogfighting ring. This season, he has gone from a seldom-used backup to the NFC’s leading passer, the catalyst for Philadelphia’s dynamic offense. He wasn’t really interested in talking about the Pro Bowl after the Minnesota Vikings upset the NFC East champion Eagles 24-14 in the NFL’s first Tuesday game since 1946. “I’m not worried about the Pro Bowl right now,” he said. “There’s so many things going on in my head. I appreciate the Pro Bowl, but as of right now, I can’t even focus on that. It’s in oblivion right now.” Besides Vick, the Eagles had four other players selected. Atlanta, which leads the NFC with a 12-3 record, had the most Pro Bowlers with seven, including quarterback Matt Ryan, receiver Roddy White and defensive end John Abraham. New England (13-2), the AFC leader, had six Pro Bowlers, led by QB Tom Brady, the league’s top passer who will make his sixth trip to the game — provided the Patriots don’t make the Super Bowl. The game will be played the Sunday before the title game at Cowboys Stadium. Now all he needs is that first Super Bowl ring. And a puppy. Source

Why Did I Watch a Full Season of Survivor When All It Did Was Make Me Mad?

Survivor: Nicaragua concluded last night with an anticlimax: A competent, immunity-prone contestant won the competition and beat out two more scheming players. I’d praise the winner’s athleticism, but the mere fact that his cunning competitors lost is a bit depressing. Why do we watch this show when it just becomes a squatting contest among “less threatening” contenders? (Spoilers ahead.)
