Woman flogged in Sudan by laughing policeman cause outrage

Sudan's judiciary has launched an investigation into the public flogging of a woman after footage of her being whipped repeatedly by laughing policemen was posted on the web.The YouTube video shows an unidentified woman in a long black dress and a headscarf being ordered to sit down in a parking lot surrounded by policemen and bystanders who do not intervene.A uniformed policeman proceeds to whip her all over her body as she screams in pain and begs them to stop. A second officer laughs when he realises he is being filmed, before joining in whipping the woman, the punishment lasts a minute and a half.Flogging is fairly common is northern Sudan, where sharia law is often enforced arbitrarily. But the cruel and nonchalant behaviour of the security forces and the distress of the victim in this case caused a stir in the country and amongst Sudanese in exile, it has even attracted condemnation in some pro-government newspapers. added by: sbacker

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries dating

Kim Kardashian#39;s now dated 38% of the NFL and NBA. The incredible thing is she#39;s single-handedly changing the mindset of college athletes across the nation. Before Kim entered the scene, these football and basketball players wanted to get drafted so they could make millions of dollars and win a Super Bowl or NBA Championship. Well that didn#39;t last long. Kim Kardashian and Halle Berry#39;s ex Gabriel Aubrey already broke up. But don#39;t feel bad for Kim because she#39;s already “reboun

You Are No Longer Free To Move About the Country

Janet Napolitano said last month that we should expect to soon see tighter restrictions at bus, train, and marine transportation centers, too. Here's a report about TSA, Border Patrol, and local police setting up a checkpoint at a Greyhound station in Tampa. Note how quickly preventing a possible terrorist attack expands to include catching illegal immigrants, and preventing drug and what sounds like “cash smuggling.” (It's hard to tell from the audio.) Note also the complete and utter reverence the local news report bestows on these government agencies, who after all are merely “teaming up to keep your family safe.” A liberal blogger wrote to me in an email this week that libertarians who call the TSA pat-downs a violation of their civil liberties do a disservice to actual violations of civil liberties. It's not difficult to envision the day where anyone wishing to take mass transportation in this country will have to first submit to a government checkpoint, show ID, and answer questions about any excess cash, prescription medication, or any other items in his possession the government deems suspicious. If and when that happens, freedom of movement will essentially be dead. But it won't happen overnight. It'll happen incrementally. And each increment will, when taken in isolation, appear to some to be perfectly reasonable. added by: Darevalo

Singapore Polo Team’s Trunks "Inappropriate"

(AP) Singapore rebuked its national water polo team for wearing swim trunks that feature an “inappropriate” likeness of the city-state's flag. The trunks, which were designed by members of the men's team currently competing in the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, show the flag's white crescent moon jutting up from the groin area with five stars to the side on a red background. “Unfortunately the team did not seek our advice on the use of the crescent moon and stars when they designed their swim trunks,” the Information Ministry said in a statement Thursday. “We would have told them that their design is inappropriate as we want elements of the flag to be treated with dignity.” The ministry, which normally evaluates the use of the flag on uniforms on a case-by-case basis, declined to specify which part of the design was objectionable. The trunks sparked a controversy in the local media and on Internet message boards, with some offended by the use of the national flag while others were amused at the furor. Asian Games rules stipulate that a team's uniform cannot be changed in the middle of the tournament, so the government will allow the water polo players to wear the trunks when they play Kuwait on Thursday for fifth place. The team apologized and said it would retire the trunks after the Asian Games. “We didn't have the slightest intention to do anything funny on our trunks to insult Singapore,” team manager Samuel Wong, who helped design the trunks, told the Straits Times. added by: Itsbatman_Durr

From Dirty Politics to the Dalai Lama: Bob Ney on Beneficial Meditation

Photo: mrpattersonsir The Jack Abramoff scandal became the symbol of everything our government shouldn’t be. It represented the corruption of Washington and the lobbying players that had gotten a handle on those that we had elected to embody our values. Congressman Bob Ney pleaded guilty to conspiring to defraud the government and making false statements in the scandal and was sentenced to jail time. Thirty months later, fresh out of prison, his perspective had changed… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Hilary Duff in Some Leather Pants of the Day

Here are some pictures of Hilary Duff proving that leather pants lose their appeal when you wear a shirt that goes down to your knees like a pale skinned fat girl at the water park who doesn’t want to get burned or show the world her digusting fucking body….. Who cares about Hilary Duff, her hockey marriage or the fact her pussy and ass are used to boost team morale by getting gangbaned when not being used for new player initiation when not being used by her husband by dressing it up as one of the players to help get her husband off…. What’s really interesting is that if you look close enough you’ll see her sister Haylie “Bottomfeeder” Duff in what looks like a see through shirt way back in Hilary’s shadow, which I guess is where she’s most comfortable…cuz sometimes when you get the shitty genetics in the family, it’s best to ride the coatails….and the fact that she knows her place makes me think she also knows how to fuck well – overcompensating from a lifetime of feeling inadequate is always good times.

Introducing the SNL Scorecard: The Good, Bad and Ugly of Saturday Night

Saturday Night Live ‘s 36th season commenced last night with alumna Amy Poehler as host — Poehler’s first time in that role, making her only the fourth former female cast member to handle hosting duties. A lot of changes were made in the offseason: Abby Elliott and Bobby Moynihan joined the main cast; Will Forte moved on and Jenny Slate wasn’t invited back; Vanessa Bayer, Paul Brittain, Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah were all added as feature players. How did the new blood fare in their first episode? Not surprisingly, they weren’t seen much (though they did get a chance to briefly wave to the camera during the opening monologue… so that’s nice). Even more importantly, was SNL any good ? Movieline busted out its fresh new SNL Scorecard (along with the patented Not-Ready-for-Prime-Time-Player Relevancy Poll) to make sense of it all.

Jonathan Klein’s ‘Pajamas Moment’ Accelerated Alternative Media’s Growth

News consumers of America owe a debt of gratitude to Jonathan Klein. Really. Yesterday, NB’s Noel Sheppard  noted the ignominious end of Klein’s nearly six-year term as head of CNN/US. If there is an example of anyone who has overseen a bigger audience decline and loss of competitive position and survived so long, I don’t know who he or she is. Fox News, which first passed CNN in total viewers in January 2002 (interesting how this basic factoid is not at Fox’s Wiki entry ), now routinely trounces CNN and CNN Headline combined by a factor of 1.5 to 1 or more. On Thursday , Fox’s primetime audience of 574,000 was 75% greater than the CNN pair’s combined total of 329,000. But before he arrived at CNN to do his damage, Klein inadvertently did the nation a service. Klein’s accidental good deed took place during the Rathergate controversy in 2004. The “story” was that President George W. Bush had somehow received favorable treatment as a member of the Texas Air National Guard in the 1970s. A commenter at FreeRepublic questioned the legitimacy of story-related documents he was seeing on a CBS “60 Minutes” segment, and it snowballed from there. Ultimately, Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs reproduced exact replicas of the documents involved in Microsoft Word using technology that could not conceivably have been accessible to the controversy’s players on typewriters existing at the time, proving beyond any reasonable doubt that the crew at “60 Minutes,” including producer Mary Mapes and host Dan Rather, had either been duped or were knowingly promoting falsehoods. In the meantime, a swarm of center-right blogs found a wide range of other evidence poking other holes in the story and questioning the motivations of many who were pushing it. The episode quickly ended the CBS career of Mapes, and eventually led to Rather’s departure from the network. In the midst of all of this, Klein, who worked for CBS from 1982 to 1999 , appeared on Fox’s O’Reilly Factor as a “Former CBS News Executive.” He defended his former employer’s work thusly: It’s an important moment, because you couldn’t have a starker contrast between the multiple layers of checks and balances, and a guy sitting in his living room in his pajamas writing what he thinks. Klein was right of course, but not in the way he thought. The guys in pajamas were right, and CBS, despite its “multiple layers of checks and balances,” was wrong. Klein’s appearance brought further visibility to an already-growing blogosphere, helping to spur further interest in alternative media, thus accelerating its growth. To name just one example: In August 2005, the Media Research Center started NewsBusters.org with the help of Matt Sheffield, who had been running RatherBiased.com. Without doubt, something like NewsBusters would have eventually appeared, but it’s pretty clear that the Rathergate episode, Klein’s arrogant and embarrassing statement, and other blogospheric debunkings of establishment media stories during the 2004 presidential campaign hastened NB’s arrival. There’s also little doubt that what happened in the fall of 2004 inspired thousands of others to try their hands at blogging. Many of them, to Jonathan Klein’s sure chagrin, have since become key alternative media contributors. That’s why today, as I blog (in street clothes), I say to Mr. Klein: “Thanks, big guy. We couldn’t have done it as quickly without you.” P.S. It’s also interesting that Mr. Klein’s “Pajamas Moment” is “somehow” not present at his Wiki entry . Cross-posted at BizzyBlog.com .
