The corporation counsel, once they have the finalized and feel good about the numbers, will then send a letter to Jussie Smollett and his attorneys, trying to recoup those costs for the city.” Smollett could be charged upwards of six figures. Both the police department and Emanuel were reportedly very upset when charges were dropped against the actor earlier this week. Smollett only forfeited his $10,000 bond. Came In Handy: Fingerprints Helped Free A Man Serving 36 Years In Prison For A Rape He Didn’t Commit [Video]

Source: Milan Markovic / Getty Fingerprints Help Exonerate A Man That Spent 36 Years In Prison For A Crime He Didn’t Commit Free at last. Archie Williams spent almost 36 years in prison for a 1982 rape and assault case that he didn’t commit. He was finally released after being exonerated. According to NY Post , during his case, Williams’ family testified that he was indeed at home during the time that the incident took place, but the 12 members of the jury thought otherwise and found the then 22-year-old Williams guilty and he was sentenced to life without parole. Last week however, new fingerprint technology with a national database showed that the crime was committed by another man, Stephen Forbes. Forbes allegedly committed several other rapes around the same time and died in prison in 1996. Williams first requested that his fingerprints be run in the national database in 1999, but it was denied by prosecutors.   View this post on Instagram EXONERATED: Archie Williams is a free man after spending 36 years of a life sentence in jail for a 1982 rape and stabbing he did not commit, with the Innocence Project using new fingerprint technology to tie the crime to someone else. “You always fight for your freedom,” Williams said. #batonrogue #louisiana #la #wrongful #conviction #exonerated #innocent #jail #prison #law #justice #free #worldnewstonight A post shared by ABC World News Tonight (@abcworldnewstonight) on Mar 22, 2019 at 12:12pm PDT During Williams’ hearing, East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore III told him, “This is the right, honest, ethical and now factual thing to do. You are factually innocent, wrongfully convicted, and on behalf of the state, we apologize that you have suffered this.” Louisiana law says that Williams is only entitled to a maximum of $250,000 for his wrongful incarceration, roughly $7,000 for each year he was in prison.

This Is America: Former Pittsburgh Cop That Murdered Unarmed Antwon Rose Was Found “Not Guilty” By Jury

Source: Justin Merriman / Getty After Only Three & A Half Hours A Jury Acquitted The Cop That Fatally Shot Antwon Rose According to the NY Daily News , The former Pittsburgh cop that was charged with criminal homicide in the fatal shooting unarmed black teen Antwon Rose was found not guilty. The not guilty verdict came after only 3 & a half hours of deliberation from the jury. Michael Rosfeld was initially charged after giving multiple accounts of the incident that left Rose shot in his face, elbow and back last year. Rosfeld reportedly pulled over the car Rose was riding in on suspicion of having been in the area of a nearby shooting. The former cop initially told investigators that he saw “something dark that he perceived as a gun,” but he later said he didn’t see a gun “when the passengers emerged and ran.” Rose was shot while trying to run away before being handcuffed.

Scottie Deem: 90 Day Fiance Alum Sentenced to 20 Years for Child Molestation

In September of 2018, months after her initial arrest, Scottie Deem was indicted on 13 charges of child molestation . Scottie, the adult daughter of Angela Deem, had appeared alongside her mother on 90 Day Fiance: Before The 90 Days  and also multiple times on Maury . Now, she has been convicted  and sentenced — to 20 years in prison. Last year, Scottie entered a plea of not guilty, professing her innocence. According to court records obtained by RadarOnline , Scottie was found guilty of three separate counts of child molestation. Each charge carries a sentence of 20 years. However, the court clarifies that Scotty will be allowed to serve all three sentences concurrently. Her sentencing date was February 1 of this year. But anyone happy to see a convicted sexual predator kept off of the streets for decades is in for a disappointment. According to the same report, Scottie could be free sooner than anyone would care to believe. After only two years and one day, she may be allowed to leave prison — just 10% of the way into her sentence. From that point on, she would be on probation. Considering the crimes with which Scottie was charged and for which she has been convicted, this is … appalling. The damage that sex abuse can inflict upon a child lasts for longer than two years — or twenty. Scottie could be out as early as 2021. 34-year-old Scottie was arrested in September of 2017 after her victim’s grandmother contacted the police. It has not been officially confirmed if this arrest came before or after Scottie appeared alongside her mother on 90 Day Fiance: Before The 90 Days . The court accused Scottie of having sex with a young minor two or three times between July 1 and August 31 of 2017. In addition to being accused of various sex acts upon the victim, she was also accused of performing “indecent sex acts” in front of five other minors. There have been a lot of scandals on 90 Day Fiance , but those charges are particularly heinous. View Slideshow: 90 Day Fiance: Most Shocking Scandals Exposed! As we mentioned earlier, Scottie and her mother, Angela, have appeared on television before 90 Day Fiance . Two separate times, the pair appeared on Maury . Both times, Angela accused Scottie of lying, saying that her boyfriend Terry could not possibly be her baby daddy. Angela was accusing her own grandchildren of being the products of cheating. DNA tests in both instances confirmed that Angela was full of s–t and that Scottie’s boyfriend was the father. Of course, that was the boyfriend with whom she cheated with a minor when he was out of town, so … Angela’s doubts seem well-founded. Angela appeared on 90 Day Fiance: Before The 90 Days as a larger-than-life personality whose relationship didn’t seem to make sense. An African man named Michael doesn’t seem like a logical match for a 53-year-old Trump supporter. Some have suggested that their story is one of love reaching across a divide, or giving love a chance despite differences. Others have said that Angela’s history on Maury proves that she’s thirsty for fame, and that Michael just wanted a Green Card. View Slideshow: 90 Day Fiance Couples: Are They Still Together?

Even Co-Debtor’s family law attorney would not sign his name on such a claim. The police saw the claim for what it was and did not pursue it.” As previously reported , Campbell accused him of hiding money, threatening to keep their children from her, and was granted a restraining order this year after alleging Martin abused her “emotionally, mentally and physically” for years. Amid The College Admission Scandal, Let’s Reflect On The Black Teen Accused Of Cheating On Her SATs

More here:

T he news that an FBI investigation revealed dozens of wealthy white people paid big money to rig admissions procedures for their privileged kids to be accepted into top colleges rocked the entire country. One of the many stunts pulled by the accused, including actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin , was having their kids’ SAT answers changed. The aspect of the college admissions cheating scandal was quite ironic considering earlier this year a Black high school student was interrogated and shamed for improving her SAT score. See Also: Complete Timeline Of Jussie Smollett Investigation Let us remind you. Florida teen Kamilah Campbell was told her test scores were invalid after she improved her original score of 900. Campbell, alongside her lawyer, civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump , said she felt she was being accused of cheating by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), which oversees the SAT. “I did not cheat,” Campbell said defiantly during a press conference in Miami in January. “I studied, and I focused to achieve my dream. I worked so hard and did everything I could do.” Crump said in a statement, “ETS violated Kamilah’s constitutional right to be considered innocent until proven guilty and denied Kamilah due process.” “The family is demanding ETS release her test scores within the next two weeks so that colleges and scholarship committees can appropriately evaluate her applications,” the statement continued. “If not, Crump said the family will move forward with exploring every legal remedy available to give Kamilah the justice she deserves, including but not limited to pursuing litigation on the basis of a violation of her civil rights.” Campbell said an ETS employee told her that she scored 1230 on her second SAT testing, an improvement of better than 300 points. She got a tutor, “took online classes and she got a copy of a The Princeton Review prep book,” according to a CNN report . While neither Campbell nor Crump made any reference to race, it was impossible to ignore her being a Black woman, especially now with the current college admissions scandal. There is a long-lingering SAT achievement gap between Blacks and other races. “These gaps have a significant impact on life chances, and therefore on the transmission of inequality across generations,” according to research conducted by the Brookings Institution , a nonprofit public policy organization. Campbell was forced to retake the test and, of course, the College Board in Florida will not release her test scores. It is despicable that rich white people would use their privilege because they didn’t want their kids to work too hard. Then again, that has always been the American way.
