According to Racine Police , officers attempted to make contact with West who was on a bike but he fled. Following a short foot pursuit, the officer observed West was armed. 18-year-old #TyreseWest was the man shot and killed early Saturday morning by Mt. Pleasant police. Today, I went with West’s family back to the shooting scene — they have one burning question. Eric Giese, a 12-year veteran of the village’s Police Department. Giese has been a sergeant for a year and a half. He was placed on administrative leave immediately following the incident. On Thursday night, hundreds of people gathered at the corner of Racine and 20th streets to remember Tyrese . Community advocate Tory Lowe gave an emotional speech to the crowd, saying: “We want justice for Tyrese. We want answers, and the only way we’re going to get the answers is if we demand the answers. Tyrese was stopped for riding a bike,” Lowe said. “And he ended up with two shots in his head. How do we know that he got two shots in his head? Because the body was released to the family. This wasn’t told to us. We saw it.” Racine Police is still investigating the case. SMH
Source: NurPhoto / Getty Missouri’s Last Abortion Clinic Gets Their License Renewal Declined The health department in Missouri has officially declined to renew the license of the state’s last and only abortion clinic on Friday. This move could eventually make Missouri the first state in the U.S. without an abortion clinic in decades–But for now, the clinic will continue providing abortion services while a court injunction remains in effect. The state’s Department of Health and Senior Services announced that it wouldn’t renew the license for the Reproductive Health Services of Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region before a court hearing on Friday. The clinic’s license was set to expire on May 31, but a St. Louis Circuit Court issued a preliminary injunction that kept its doors open. That injunction will stay in effect until further ruling from the court, according to a judge in a hearing on Friday morning. “We will continue providing abortion care for as long as the court protects our ability to do so,” explained Colleen McNicholas, a reproductive health doctor at the St. Louis clinic. Earlier this month, Circuit Judge Michael Stelzer set a June 21 deadline for the state’s health department to decide whether to renew the clinic’s license. With the department’s decision not to renew on Friday, the judge must now decided next steps. At the hearing, Judge Stelzer said he would issue at least one more order on the case. “I can’t imagine that injunction can stand for too long,” said Rigel Oliveri, a professor at the University of Missouri School of Law. “That’s a tough spot for the court to be in, ordering a medical facility to be open when it’s been ordered to be closed for patient safety reasons.” Director of the Department of Health and Senior Services, Randall Williams, said Friday that the department chose not to renew the license after the clinic failed to address a number of issues raised by the state. “Access is always incredible important to us,” Dr. Williams said. “But, just understand, in the regulatory environment, our North Star is always the individual who’s getting patient care. We never let anything interfere with the basic patient care that a patient is receiving.” Ahead of this decision, the clinic announced it would no longer comply with a state regulation that Planned Parenthood said required doctors to perform two pelvic exams before an abortion. Dr. Williams said he would enact an emergency rule to allow the clinic to defer the additional pelvic exam. For years, state regulations have required patients receiving abortions to undergo a pelvic exam before the procedure. But recently, the clinic said, the state has required an additional pelvic exam to take place during state-mandated counseling sessions, which occur 72 hours before the procedure. Clinic doctors have described the additional exam as medically unnecessary. Missouri is one of six states with only one abortion clinic, including Kentucky, Mississippi, West Virginia, North Dakota and South Dakota, according to the Guttmacher Institute. Lawmakers in Missouri passed legislation last month that prohibited abortion after eight weeks of pregnancy, except in cases of medical emergency. More liberal state legislatures, like in neighboring Illinois, have enacted laws enshrining abortion protections in response to the possibility of more limited access to the procedure.
Source: S3studio / Getty Mother Arrested For Abandoning Her Boy In McDonald’s A mother in Phoenix, Arizona left her 9-year-old child alone at McDonald’s to gamble at a casino because, “he drives [her] crazy.” According to reports from Yahoo Lifestyle , 34-year-old Stacy Rupp dropped off her 9-year-old son at McDonald’s on Wednesday evening at around 8:30 p.m. before hitting Desert Diamond Casino, located about a mile away. An employee observed the unsupervised boy looking “dirty and disheveled” and ended up calling the police. While he was there, the staff gifted the young boy with a coloring book, ice cream, and cookies, read a police report. Officer Brandon Sheffert of the Peoria Police Department told Yahoo that the child was not upset. He said his mother dropped him off in order to gamble but noted, “She always comes back.” Her son had been left unattended for two hours. Rupp ended up arriving only minutes after law enforcement — and she came with excuses. According to the police report, Rupp first told officers she was grocery shopping at a nearby Fry’s Marketplace, but couldn’t provide any proof. She then proceeded to admit that she “messed up,” and went to the casino. “He drives me crazy and steals my money,” she said in the police report. According to AZ Family , court documents state that Rupp “did not provide a cell phone or any type of means of communication to the victim for him to get in contact with her in case of an emergency.” Stacy Rupp was arrested and charged with child abuse and endangerment. A future court date has been set for July.
Earlier this month, we reported on the sad news that Mary Duggar had passed away at the age of 78. Given her advanced age, it was widely assumed that the mother of Jim Bob had died of natural causes — but that later proved not to be the case. We now know that Mary Duggar drowned , and the exact circumstances of her accidental death remain unclear. No foul play is suspected, and the Duggars have every right to keep the details of their loved one’s passing to themselves. But given how publicly members of the famous family have lived their lives over the past 20 years, it stands to reason that some fans would be surprised by what seems to be a joint decision to keep the specifics of Mary’s fatal accident under wraps. Fortunately, the Duggars haven’t shied away from talking about Mary’s life, just her death. Jill Duggar was the first to pay tribute to her late grandmother. And while Jill’s eulogy to Mary created controversy due to her decision to monetize the post, the situation did not prevent other Duggars from following suit. The latest to honor Mary’s memory on social media is Anna Duggar. Anna posted a video of her grandmother-in-law interacting with her daughter Merideth: Anna Duggar Pays Tribute to Mary Duggar “As I’ve talked with my children this week about their special memories of Great-Grandma, Meredith said she was going to miss singing for Grandma,” Anna captioned the post. “Dithy has such a special love with Great-Grandma as she always enjoyed time with her and singing for her—Great-Grandma would give undivided attention and was her biggest fan!” she continued. “Somehow Grandma kept up with each of us and always took the time to make each birthday, recital, baby shower or any other event (and all the “uneventful” days in between) special—she mastered the rare art of consistent praise! She lived well, loved much and is greatly missed.” A touching tribute, to be sure — but some fans remained fixated on the mysteries surrounding Mary’s passing. “How did she accidentally drown?” one follower asked, point-blank. Not surprisingly, Anna never replied to the comment. We get the feeling the Duggars will continue to present a united front on this one. And unfortunately, we also get the feeling that fans will continue to pry into the matter. View Slideshow: Josh & Anna Duggar Expecting Again: Their Bizarre Journey to Baby #6
Nobody knows how to have a good time (and then get arrested for it) like Florida Man . But if you’re looking to liven up your summer pool party, definitely don’t invite Christopher Monnin. The 35-year-old Floridian was arrested for stealing dozens of pool floats around the Palm Bay area. Why pool floats? Well, to have sex with them, of course! According to the Miami Herald , the Palm Bay Police Department suspect Monnin is behind a whole crime wave of missing pool toys. An estimated 13 cases of stolen floats have been reported in the Palm Bay area just this year. “The city has been plagued with burglaries,” police told the Herald , During these burglaries, police explained, “the suspect cuts the screen or otherwise enters a victim’s back pool deck area and steals only pool floats.” That’s right, only pool floats. Florida man knows what he wants, and he wants a lot of it. According to the affidavit, Monnin broke into some of the homes multiple times, but residents didn’t report the theft to Police until the second or third instance. Police finally stopped Monnin as a suspicious person on Thursday, June 13, around 1:30 in the morning. At the time, Monnin was riding his bike down the steet with a white garbage bag full of deflated pool toys. At that point, it was a pretty safe bet that police had apprehended the correct culprit. To his credit, Monnin confessed quickly during questioning, stating that he had stolen “many floats.” Monnin added that he had been storing the stolen pool floats at a vacant house across the street from his own residence. We’d love to tell you that Monnin was simply gearing up for the pool party of the century, but this man does not have a pool, and the reality is much darker. Monnin allegedly told police he “sexually gratifies himself with the floats.” According to Monnin, he “does this instead of raping women.” This mind-boggling admission only raises further questions, such as, WTF, Florida man? In what way is a pool float a substitute for a human woman? What kind of floats has he been stealing? Does he have a type? We’re not sure we even want to know. Monnin soon led the police to the vacant dwelling he’d converted into his pool toy love shack. Here, police reportedly recovered roughly 75 pool floats of varying shapes and sizes, so let that sink in. This man was keeping a veritable harem of inflatable mates. Monnin’s collection of pool toys could fully stock the outdoor department of a store that only sells things no one should ever touch again. Police found several distinctive floats among Monnin’s ill-gotten collection, including a large yellow duck, and a float shaped like a piece of bacon. He also had a float shaped like a sliced watermelon, and a Shaquile O’Neil branded inflatable lounger, along with other lounge chair style floats. Monnin, already an ex-con with a history of burglary, may have topped his rap sheet with this ridiculous and troubling crime spree. But at least he was cooperative with police, and thankfully, he is not accused of actually raping any women. Monin was ultimately charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling, petit theft, and criminal mischief. He’s currently being held at Brevard County Jail, where his bond sits at $16,000. Monin’s reign of madness may have come to an end, but there’s plenty of summer time left for mre shenanigans from the Sunshine State. Party on, Florida Man. Sunday night's new 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After? was a drama-filled doozy. The biggest item was, of course, Larissa getting arrested for the second time for “domestic violence.” Fans have been suspicious about this incident since it went down, and now viewers are getting to form their own opinions. Chantel's visit to Pedro continues to not go very well. Paola is, bless her, losing her entire mind during this pregnancy, and Ashley is spiraling (with good reason) over Jay's cheating scandal. The hardest part to watch of the whole episode had to be Elizabeth and Andrrei, who keeps getting worse as the season goes on. 1. Colt and Larissa This time, the drama takes a serious turn, as fans witness the aftermath of a major blowout between this toxic couple. 2. Coltee has bad news “Larissa was arrested … again,” Colt tells fans. To those of us who followed this story as it was breaking last November, this is old news, but it’s still interesting to see the side of it that never made it to social media or police reports. 3. So what happened? Larissa and Colt had an argument after Colt had allegedly knocked over things in the living room. Larissa locked herself in the bathroom, and when Colt deactivated her phone, it sent her into a panic and she begged fans on social media to contact Colt to tell him to reactivate her phone (she was terrified). She could still access social media to plead for help. Someone called the police. 4. And yes, she was arrested We know that sometimes, people think that reality shows stage arrests for drama. This really happened. 5. For what it’s worth, they made light of it just weeks later Yes, they shared this photo last November, AFTER Larissa’s arrest. 6. Debbie was absolutely horrified Debbie had managed to stretch that umbilical cord far enough to leave on a trip. When she returned, she found the house damaged and the general aftermath of her daughter-in-law’s arrest. Colt was playing the part of concerned husband, and Debbie was furious. View Slideshow
Source: filo/Getty Images Memphis Protests Erupt After Brandon Webber Shooting Outrage erupted in Memphis, Tennessee last night over the shooting of a black man. Brandon Webber, 20, was gunned by down by US Marshalls Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force Wednesday after The Tennessee Burea of Investigation said he “rammed his vehicle into the officers’ vehicles multiple times before exiting with a weapon.” The 20-year-old father was reportedly wanted by authorities on multiple unspecified warrants. “Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 7 p.m., multiple officers with the United States Marshals Service – Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force encountered a male, wanted on multiple warrants, outside of a home in the 2700 block of Durham Street as he was getting into a vehicle. While attempting to stop the individual, he reportedly rammed his vehicle into the officers’ vehicles multiple times before exiting with a weapon. The officers fired striking and killing the individual. No officers were injured.” Despite his alleged warrants, Webber’s family is wondering why so much brute force was used. They tell local publications that he was shot between 16-20 times by authorities. There are also reports that his body was left out in the street drawing comparisons to Michael Brown whose lifeless body laid in the street for hours. After news broke about Webber’s death, a crowd gathered around the scene in Memphis’ Frayser neighborhood and police brought out batons and shields before dispersing tear gas. Memphis’ Mayor Jim Strickland said at least 24 law enforcement officers were injured and added that windows and police cars were damaged. He also praised the police for their response to the “riots” which sound more like a community in mourning and upset that Webber’s death marks the 22nd Tennessean shot by police this year. Community leaders like Tami Sawyer, Shelby County Commissioner and a candidate for mayor of Memphis, asked for a thorough investigation into the shooting and asked onlookers to be considerate of protestors’ feelings. Don’t judge Frayser without asking a community how it feels to mourn their youth over and over again. I f you thought there might be a chance of Jussie Smollett returning to Lee Daniels’ “ Empire, ” those days are are over. The director spoke out about accusations that Smollett staged a hoax and he held nothing back. See Also: Complete Timeline Of Jussie Smollett Investigation In an interview with Vulture, Daniels was asked if he was embarrassed that he public supported Jussie Smollett, “I’m beyond embarrassed. I think that when it happened, I had a flash of me running from bullies. I had a flash of my whole life, of my childhood, my youth, getting beaten.” He said that he would have never suspected Smollett to allegedly stage a hate crime and when asked if he believes there is doubt, Daniels explained, “Of course, there’s some doubt. I’m telling you that because I love him so much. That’s the torture that I’m in right now, because it’s literally if it were to happen to your son and your child, how would you feel? You would feel, Please, God, please let there be that glimmer of hope that there is some truth in this story. That’s why it’s been so painful. It was a flood of pain.” He also said, “We weren’t there. I can’t judge him. That’s only for the fucking lady or man with that black robe and God. I had to detach myself and stop calling him, because it was taking away the time I have for my kids, the time I have for my partner. It was affecting my spirit and other shows, everything.” Smollett’s career has taken a serious below. He is no longer being considered to play the lead role in the Broadway revival of “ Take Me Out ,” which is about a mixed-race baseball player. The role went to Jesse Williams . Considering what Daniels said, it appears Jussie may never return to “Empire.” He also wrote in a June 4 tweet , “Jussie will NOT be returning to Empire.” On Jan. 29, while walking to a subway, Smollett claimed two men yelled racial and homophobic slurs at him, investigators told The Hollywood Reporter . They allegedly punched and poured bleach on him while one of the suspects put a rope around his neck. As they fled the scene, Smollett told police they said, “This is MAGA country.” Smollett has maintained his innocence and all 16 felony counts against him were dropped. Source: SOPA Images / Getty We’re in an age where people are using their voices and dollars to demand visibility and recognition. When plus-size is “represented” in media or runways, it’s often a 12 or 14. While there is more visibility, it’s still limited. Plus size people of prominence get beauty shots, not body shots on magazine covers. Plus size models going down the runway are sans stomachs and flab. So when Nike quietly released a size 16/18 model in London’s Oxford Street store, most people were pleased. Source: Jeff Greenberg / Getty The plus size mannequin is not a new concept. You will see them in plus size stores like Lane Bryant and department stores that carry size inclusive brands, like Macy’s and Rachel Roy. The plus-size mannequin features thick thighs, a flat stomach simultaneously holding some fat, and soft arms. As a size 14 woman, with a body that is shaped similarly, I felt seen and celebrated. While weight and health is correlated (yes, it’s true that it is harder to recover from injury when you are obese), size and exercise are not. People of all size exercise and people of all sizes deserve high performance exercise gear. This mannequin is part of the revamped women’s space which is dedicated to “celebrating diversity and inclusivity of sport.” Plus size women are often intimidated at the gym, a phrase called gymtimidation. While the gym is a place to get in shape, women of a larger size are often stared at and made to feel uncomfortable. Hence reasons for places like Curves (a gym for women) or classes that are geared directly toward plus size women. How you look or what you wear can have an immediate effect on your self-esteem. Plus size women deserve, need, and want clothes that they can wear to help take care of their bodies and isn’t the same outfit that consists of a gifted t-shirt from an event or an outfit they wear to clean the house. The irony and energy that society always tells plus size women to “work out” is the same energy that people are using toward Nike, appalled that they would even consider “normalizing obesity.” Tanya Gold, a writer for the Telegraph, wrote a fatphobic op-ed entitled, Obese Mannequins Are Selling Women A Dangerous Lie . “She is, in every measure, obese, and she is not readying herself for a run in her shiny Nike gear. She cannot run. She is, more likely, pre-diabetic and on her way to a hip replacement. What terrible cynicism is this on the part of Nike?” This automatic stereotyping of larger bodies, without being a doctor or even knowing someone’s medical history is isolating and irresponsible. People that are upset seeing a plus size mannequin doing the exact same thing that you are upset that plus size people apparently aren’t doing is such backwards and problematic thinking. Throughout her article, her words are laced with fatphobic commentary like, “She heaves with fat,” illustrates a larger problem. We’re so careful about Black Lives Matter , focused on inclusion within the LGBTQTI community, however, when it comes to larger bodies, fatness is the misfit of marginalized communities. The plus-size population remains ridiculed, disrespected, and isolated. No wonder the community is so strong, at times, it’s literally all we have. The body shaming of an inanimate object illustrates a larger problem in society surrounding the idiosyncrasies surrounding plus size women and their bodies.
