Source: Natdanai Pankong / EyeEm / Getty Teen Girl Convicted Prison You may be asking yourself “ Wait, really ???” The answer is “yes.” According to DailyMail , a 16-year-old girl referred to only as “S.K.” has been convicted of child pornography charges in Maryland after she sent a video of herself giving an unidentified male some sloppy toppy. S.K. and her friends are said to have regularly sent each other non-sexual videos described as “silly” in the spirit of friendly competition. When S.K. sent a 1-minute video of herself inhaling an eggplant emoji, her friends not only shared it in school, but went and told the police! During S.K.’s initial trial back in 2016 both the state and the special court of appeals agreed that the girl had violated the law. ‘The state has an indisputable interest in protecting minors from exploitation ‘as subjects in pornographic material’ . . . whether at the hands of others or by their own conduct,’ wrote the chief judge. The Maryland Court of Appeals will make the final decision later this year after the girl’s lawyer argued that S.K. was not victim of a crime as she sent the sexually explicit video voluntarily. ‘The statute is intended as a vehicle to protect, not prosecute, minors victimized and exploited in the production of sexually explicit videos,’ Claudia Cortese defending wrote. Can you imagine having to register as a sex offender because you sent your own nudes to your friends?
Source: Kevin Mazur / Getty Witnesses Corroborate Jussie Smollett’s Characterization Of Persons Of Interest In Alleged Race Hate Incident The recent release of several hundred pages of internal documents related to the alleged racist attack against actor Jussie Smollett’s has raised questions about law enforcement’s narrative of the case after some witness statements appear to match the “Empire” actor’s story. Chicago Police released more than 400 pages of documents earlier this week that detail it’s handling of Smollett’s case , and at least two eyewitnesses told police that they saw men who fit Smollett’s descriptions of the suspects loitering near the scene around the time of the alleged incident, according to the documents, which were obtained by BOSSIP. A hotel security guard told police that he saw three men in dark clothing – and one of the men was white and wearing a facemask – near the scene around the time of the incident, the case’s papers state. And another resident who was walking a dog told police that she saw a white man smoking a cigarette with a rope poking out from underneath his coat. The witness said the man appeared to be waiting for something, and his clothes appeared wet. Source: Brandon Caldwell / Radio One Houston Cops accused Smollett of staging the alleged attack to help advance his career and later charged Smollett with making a false police report. The District Attorney’s Office eventually dropped the charges. Smollett and his legal team weren’t aware of the details in the documents because the District Attorney’s Office and his lawyers did not exchange evidence before Smollett’s charges were ultimately dropped, a source with direct knowledge of the situation told BOSSIP. Nevertheless, our source said Smollett’s story hasn’t wavered, and while his camp isn’t worried about his career, there is a concern that his community and advocacy work has been overshadowed by the case. “It got political and it got bigger than him,” the source said. “It’s the years of advocacy, the things he’s been doing for his community and people of color that goes away and it’s not fair.”
T he city of Chicago is still hungry for Jussie Smollett . Therefore, a judge ruled to unseal the documents in his case — however, it’s only the documents from the perspective of the corrupt Chicago Police Department. One revelation is that the home of the Osundairo brothers was packed with drugs and guns. See Also: Complete Timeline Of Jussie Smollett Investigation TMZ reports they had a vault of guns that included the following: — a hipoint model C9, 9MM caliber semi-auto pistol — 9MM caliber magazine with live rounds — 45ACP caliber magazines — Boxes labeled Remington 22 Rounds — a box labeled Hornady 00 buck shotgun shells No wonder on what these guns were for or if the guns were legal. The site also says, “They found a paper packet containing 2 small plastic bags with white powder, but there are no specifics about what that white substance was.” The report also claimed that one of the brothers sold weed to the “ Empire ” actor but this was already reported back in February . Abel and Ola , who have never commented publicly on their involvement in the case, reportedly have not been able to land an agent since the Smollett case went public. Originally, their fitness training business was skyrocketing but “many of their potential clients turned out to be feigning interest in getting in shape and were really looking to get details on Jussie’s case.” Other damning information about the brothers has surfaced in April. It was reported that Olabinjo Osundairo was charged with attempted murder in 2011. He reportedly reached a plea deal “with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to aggravated battery; he was sentenced to two years of probation and ordered to pay a $674 fine.” As for Smollett, his career has also taken a hit. He is no longer being considered to play the lead role in the Broadway revival of “ Take Me Out ,” which is about a mixed-race baseball player. The role supposedly went to Jesse Williams . There have also been several reports that he will no longer be on “Empire” but his contract is still in place. On Jan. 29, while walking to a subway, Smollett claimed two men yelled racial and homophobic slurs at him, investigators told The Hollywood Reporter . They allegedly punched and poured bleach on him while one of the suspects put a rope around his neck. As they fled the scene, Smollett told police they said, “This is MAGA country.” Smollett has maintained his innocence. Source: Paras Griffin / Getty Lil Durk Wanted For Shooting In Atlanta The Atlanta Police Department wants to have a lil talk with Lil Durk. According to TMZ , 12 is hot on Durk’s heels as they believe he has something to do with a shooting that took place a few months ago. Back on February 5, APD responded to a man who was shot in in the parking lot of Atlanta’s famous fast food restaurant The Varsity. The victim survived his gunshot wounds. Witnesses say that the man was in an argument with two other men. It appears that the cops think Durk was one of those men. There is currently an arrest warrant for him and there are a LOT of charges: …criminal intent to commit murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and another charge of associating with a criminal street gang to participate in a crime. Source: Jub Rubjob / Getty Viral Video Of Black Man Running From Police Sparks Controversy There’s a war going on online , no hot take is safe from. Early this morning, rapper and activist @Tef_Poe posted a video of a young black man escaping police arrest and doing the Jesse Owens on a couple of cops who weren’t paying attention. That video was reposted by Marc Lamont Hill with a caption that triggered a great many people. Check it out below. View this post on Instagram Legends are born every day. Be inspired. (NOTE: This post has sparked a lot of conversation. Some are celebrating this man’s escape. Others are saying it’s irresponsible to run from police, as they could have shot him in the back. This discourse is fascinating, as it prompts a series of questions for me: How do you resist unjust laws? Why do we accept and normalize the entirely illegal act of shooting as suspect as they run away? How do we create strategies of resistance that allow our children to still survive and come home? What is it about this video that makes so many folk want to cheer this young man on?) A post shared by Marc Lamont Hill (@marclamonthill) on May 25, 2019 at 4:30am PDT The outraged folks argue that this video is dangerous and that Black people should not be encouraged to run away from police as they might be shot. Those who disagree retort that they were THRILLED to see the young man escape the pigs and rightfully note that we’ve seen many, many, MANY Black people comply with law enforcement and STILL be killed. Where do you stand on this issue? Do you see an inherent danger “promoting” people to run from police? Should Black folks just do everything police say in order to stay alive? Let us know what you think down in the comments.
Days after Maleah Davis’ stepfather was arrested and weeks after she went missing, Texas authorities confirmed that they are searching for the 4-year-old near a haunted house in Texas. According to FOX 26 , Texas Equusearch coordinator confirmed that they are looking for the child near the Creepy Hollow Haunted House in Rosharon where Derion Vence was arrested in connection to the case. Apparently, Vence is familiar with that area because he worked as a mail carrier in the town from 2017-2018. “All we look for is something that doesn’t fit in,” Jack Boggess with Texas Equusearch told FOX 26. “We look for clothing, shoes, whatever. Just something that doesn’t fit in, and that’s what we key on.” KHOU reported that Vence’s mother-in-law claims that Vence once told her that if he killed anyone he would hide them in Rosharon because no one would ever find the body. Search for Maleah Davis: A deserted haunted house in Rosharon is the scene where Equusearch is currently looking for any evidence of the missing 4-year-old girl. They tell me law enforcement pointed them in this direction. pic.twitter.com/SqerNhegt3 — Ivory Hecker FOX 26 (@IvoryHecker) May 14, 2019 On Saturday night, Vence was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence—a human corpse— after investigators discovered the young girl’s blood in his home and reviewed surveillance footage that shows the 26-year-old walking out of his apartment carrying a heavy laundry basket. It’s been nearly two weeks since Vence claimed that a group of Latino men kidnapped Davis when they were on their way to pick up Davis’ mother, Brittany Bowens, from the airport. He told authorities that he stopped to fix a flat tire when the men came and knocked him out. According to Vence, the men took Davis, but left Vence’s 1-year-old son him. A taxi driver later found Vence’s car in Missouri City on May 9. Last week, Bowens and her lawyer made some serious accusations against Vence, claiming that he was upset with her because she broke off their engagement. That, and he may have been molesting her daughter. “On the day that Brittany left to be with her sick father — her dying father — to be with family, there was a huge fight between her and him,” Quanell X, her lawyer said in a press conference on May 10. “He was hurt, he was angry, he was upset,” adding, “She told him she was giving back his ring and that she was not going to marry him. I believe that caused him to snap in anger. There is a reason to believe, based on what I know now, there’s issues of him possibly molesting young Maleah.” Despite having suspicions of possible sexual abuse, Bowens never reported it to the police. But KTRK reported that in January 2019 Davis and two other siblings were removed from her home as CPS investigated allegations of physical abuse related to a severe head injury she endured. Yet, the children were returned the following month when it was determined that Davis’ injuries were the result of a fall. Meanwhile, law enforcement officials have not yet confirmed whether Davis has died, but investigators do not think she is still alive. Davis was last seen wearing a pink bow in her hair, a light blue zip jacket, blue jeans and gray, white and pink sneakers. If you have any information into Davis’ disappearance please contact Houston Police at at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS. Source: NBC The Village / NBC/Jerod Haynes The very first time I saw Jerod Haynes , I knew he would be a star. Per a friend’s recommendation, we met back in late 2013 when Jerod came in to audition for my MFA thesis film “Blame.” The minute he read those lines, it was clear he was meant to play the role of this young father at a crossroads: Either turn his son into the police for raping their neighbor or delete the only evidence of the assault on the teen’s cell phone. Despite the tiny budget for our 6-day shoot, Jerod never treated it like an amateur student film. Like a true professional, he came to set ready and delivered a beautiful performance filled with complexity, empathy and rawness. Everyday, I looked into that monitor and was blown away in awe. And having watched his work over the years, whether it’s on stage or on-screen, Jerod is truly a force. Now five-plus-years later, the Chicago native is starring in his first TV leading role in NBC’s “The Village.” On the drama, he plays Ben, a New York City police officer living in his parent’s Brooklyn apartment complex where his neighbors are more like his family. The more obstacles they all encounter in life, the more they grow together. For Ben, he is also juggling a lot—the death of his son, his mother’s battle with pancreatic cancer and falling in love with Ava, an Iranian immigrant who ICE wants to deport. That, and Ben is helping raise her son Sami. No doubt, the meatiness of a role like this is exactly what Jerod was made for. HelloBeautiful recently sat down with the rising star to talk about NBC’s “The Village,” being an African-American man playing a police officer and how therapy has helped him become a better actor and human being. HelloBeautiful: You were an athlete and then you became an actor. How did that happen? Jerod Haynes: I played basketball and even left college early to pursue it professionally, but my agent stopped answering my phone calls. [Laughs] So that dream never happened and I found myself stuck on my sister’s couch depressed. One day I Googled “depression” and it said something about acting classes, so I approached the Acting Studio Chicago . But I couldn’t afford the classes, so they worked out a barter system. I would take out the trash and do other things around the studio to get free classes. Soon, I realized that I really liked acting, so I took even more classes and auditioned for some plays, got guidance from people in the business and kept going with it. I started to see that as the window for basketball closed, another one opened. HB: OK, so I’ve had the privilege of directing you before, and listen…there were so many moments on set when I was looking into the monitor and was like “Damn, he’s really good.” At what point, did you realize that you were good at this? JH: Kellee, I’m still trying to figure that out! [Laughs] Honestly, sometimes I wonder if they are like, “What is he doing here? I want to say that I’m good, but that’s all subjective. But here’s what I do know. I enjoy this and I am just seeking to get better at it. HB: You have the ability to dig so deep within yourself with your role as Ben and in any supporting role you’ve had, like when you were on “Chicago Med” and your wife died and obviously “Blame.” You like to cry on-screen. [Laughs] JH: Ha! You know, this work teaches you who you really are. And learning who you are is the toughest task you can be given, because you see the good and the bad. You see your flaws up close and you really begin to understand what your triggers are, especially when the scripts require a high level of emotion and thoughtfulness. I started therapy and began learning why certain things affected me and what tools I need to have to work on them. Listen. Therapy works. Also, being able to articulate what and why something affects me in a scene has helped as an actor and as a man. I can read a scene and identify quicker with it and what it requires emotionally. HB: It’s so rare to hear a Black man speak so openly and positively about how therapy has improved their lives. Thank you for this, we need more to speak up. JH: Well, I wasn’t always that way, I won’t lie. But I got to a place where I kept hitting a ceiling and finally had to ask myself what was the worse thing that could happen by going to therapy? HB: Right, like the worse is that you get better? JH: Exactly. And like I said, it works. Source: NBC The Village / NBC HB: Shifting gears to “The Village,” what drew you to this role? JH: I remember reading the script and feeling like there was so much humanity in it. And in these times, we are seeing a lot of isolation and silence and people holding on to grudges. Yet, here is a story about this group of neighbors who try to understand each other and be there for one another. We all have a commonality of pain and that brings us together. You’re wounded, I’m wounded, so let me help you heal and vice versa. And these neighbors need each other’s help and can’t do it alone. Given how divided this country is right now, I was drawn to this story. “The Village” is the show we need now more than ever.

Source: Joe Robbins / Getty Cowboys Running Back Ezekiel Elliott Will Pay For Jaylon McKenzie’s Funeral Expenses This past weekend, the family of Jaylon McKenzie was struck with grief when the star football player was killed at a party. Now, Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is stepping in to cover the funeral expenses. According to ESPN , Elliott, who grew up in St. Louis, reached out to McKenzie’s family soon after the eighth grader died. He wanted to keep the matter between him and the family, but the Cowboys confirmed that Elliott was paying for their funeral expenses. “Zeke is really a special guy,” coach Jason Garrett said on Wednesday at the team’s sponsors’ golf tournament taking place at the Cowboys Golf Club. “He’s a great football player obviously, but he’s a really good person and that doesn’t surprise me one bit.” Garrett continued: “He’s just very generous. He’s got a great spirit about him. We see that every day as players and coaches. Anybody that’s been around him knows that, and it doesn’t surprise me one bit that he would get involved there. He’s someone that a lot of people look up to, a lot of people certainly in St. Louis and Missouri, Ohio State, all across the country. If you’re a fan of football, you know Zeke Elliott, and anybody who’s been around him on a daily basis knows what kind of person he is.” McKenzie’s mother, Sukeena Gunner, explained that her son was about to leave a party in Venice, Illinois when a fight broke out. According to Illinois State Police, McKenzie was hit by a stray bullet and eventually died at a local hospital. The eighth grader was already becoming a star athlete with college scholarship offers. He was also picked to compete in the All-American All-Star Game in Canton, Ohio, during the Pro Football Hall of Fame induction weekend. His sudden passing was truly a tragedy. Good to know there’s athletes out there supporting the family in their time of grievance.
