U.S. attorney Loretta Lynch has emerged as the top choice to replace Attorney General Eric Holder. Holder announced in September that he would step down…
Yeah, she went there. Just one day after Jessa Duggar bashed evolution and atheism on Instagram, she returned to the social media site to express an even more controversial view. Jessa, 21, and fiance Ben Seewald , 19, are in DC at the moment, and according to her page they recently paid a visit to the US Holocaust Museum. The future Mrs. Seewald was clearly moved by the experience, and with good reason. The museum brings to vivid life one of the most horrific tragedies in human history. Unfortunately, and all too predictably, the emotions that Jessa experienced at the museum inspired an lengthy, impassioned defense of her various political causes and religious convictions. None of which – at least as most people probably see it – have anything to do with the millions of lives lost in concentration camps in Europe during WWII. Jessa’s latest Insta-rant is too long to reproduce here, but she begins by saying, “I walked through the Holocaust museum today…very sobering.” So far, so good. She goes on to lament man’s inhumanity toward man and decry the horrors of racism. Then she begins to go off the rails, asserting that racism stems “from the evolutionary idea that man evolved from something less than human; that some people groups are ‘less evolved’ and others ‘more evolved.'” Say what?! Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald Photos 1. Jessa Duggar & Ben Seewald: So in Love Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald are now engaged to be married after an 11-month courtship. Here’s a gallery of photos of their love! We’re not sure what evolutionary biologists Jessa’s been chatting with, but the gist of the theory is that we all evolved from different species. There’s literally not a single reputable scientist on the planet claiming that “some people groups are ‘less evolved.'” But hey, if your head hasn’t exploded yet, don’t worry – it gets worse. Following a lengthy quote from the Book of Proverbs (We highly doubt Jessa abides by every law in the Old Testament, but that’s a conversation for another time.), Jessa mercifully wraps things up. But first, of course, she gut-punches you with nonsense one last time: “We must be a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. Because EVERY LIFE IS PRECIOUS #ProLife” That bit at the end was the first time that Jessa mentioned anything about abortion, and to be clear, we’re not attacking her stance on the matter. It’s a complex issue and not a debate we’re interested in wading into here. All we’re saying is, DON’T FREAKIN’ COMPARE ANYTHING TO THE HOLOCAUST! There. It’s that simple. It’s like using a racial slur or cat-calling a strange woman on the street. Just don’t do it ever, or you’re a jackass. Is that so hard? Anyway, you can watch 19 Kids and Counting online at TV Fanatic to see if you can find a scene in which Jessa says something smart. 9 Things BANNED in the Duggar Family 1. Dates Without Chaperones The Duggar parents often accompany their children on dates in order to maintain their “accountability” and “keep things from going in the wrong direction,” per Jim Bob. The girls are fine with this, as being alone with men puts them in grave “moral danger.” When the parents aren’t available, their older siblings will often tag along, making every date a group date and a family affair.
Chelsea Clinton is a mother for the first time. The global activist and former First Daughter, 34, welcomed a baby girl with her husband Marc Mezvinsky! “Marc and I are full of love, awe and gratitude as we celebrate the birth of our daughter, Charlotte Clinton Mezvinsky,” Clinton wrote late Friday night. Months after announcing she and Mezvinsky hoped to make 2014 the “Year of the Baby,” Chelsea, confirmed in April that the couple were expecting. “I certainly feel all the better whether it’s a girl or a boy that she or he will grow up in world filled with so many strong female leaders,” she said. Appropriately, Bill and Hillary Clinton’s only child made the announcement at a Clinton Foundation event for the empowerment of girls and young women. Her mom, the former Secretary of State, has been excited for the arrival, stockpiling kids’ books and planning to have a car seat in her own vehicle. “I want to babysit any chance I get!” the former First Lady said at a political gathering in September, “Bill and I are on constant grandchild watch.” Chelsea kept a busy pace at the Clinton Global Initiative just days before Charlotte’s arrival. Hopefully now she’ll get some well needed rest (just kidding)! New parent humor. Congratulations to Chelsea and Marc Mezvinsky on their new baby, and to these other celebs who welcomed kids in 2014 as well: Celebrities Who Welcomed Babies in 2014 1. Earlier this month, the entire Palin family was involved in a brawl at a party in Anchorage, Alaska. Even though she doesn’t read newspapers, family matriarch and woman who came frighteningly close to being our vice president -Sarah Palin – somehow found out that her family was portrayed by the media in a less-than-favorable fashion following the fight, and she’s madder than a bull moose with a burr on his butt, you betcha: “As you can imagine [my kids] and my extended family have experienced so many things that may have crushed others without a strong foundation of faith,” wrote Palin on her Facebook page. “I’m thankful for my friends’ prayer shield that surrounds, allowing them to remain their anchor. Thank you, prayer warriors!” Powerful stuff. Sounds like her family has been through a lot. Hey, you know who else has been through a lot? The people who were violently attacked by the entire Palin family at a party! Look, we weren’t there, and we don’t know what sparked the melee, but even the Palins aren’t denying that they used their prayer shields to bust into a party and start doling out ass whoopings to an unsuspecting crowd. Maybe it was justified – again, we don’t know – but regardless of the details, it’s not the sort of situation where you get to play the victim afterward. Now, if she wanted to write a woe-is-me post about the fact that no one is subscribing to the Sarah Palin Channel , that we could understand. All the “prayer warriors” in the world ain’t gonna save that mess. Sarah Palin Photos? You Betcha! 1. Sarah Palin in New York Sarah Palin poses here outside Fox News Studios in NYC. As previously documented, Ryan Gosling cried when he first saw his newborn daughter. But, trust us, they were tears of joy and happiness. “Ryan is madly in love with the baby,” a source tells People of the famous father adding that Eva Mendes adores her new title of “mom.” Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes Welcome Daughter The Internet was taken aback in July, of course, when news spread that Mendes was expecting her first child with Gosling. The stars had dated off and on since 2011, but not many people knew they were together, let alone preparing to be parents. So far, however, it appears as if Gosling and Mendes have created a strong, loving family for their newborn , who came into the world on September 12. “Ryan’s mom and Eva’s mom have both been helping,” the insider says. “They have both been great. The grandmothers are both very excited and both very hands-on – as much as they can be.” That’s always nice. It helps a lot to have grandparents involved in the lives of a baby. Mendes is “absolutely in heaven being a mom. She’s never been happier,” another friend tells the magazine. “She and Ryan are just in awe of this beautiful person they created. It’s a really special time for them.” That’s so great! We send our best wishes to the couple. Internet Reacts in Horror to #GoslingBaby 1. He’s shirtless. We’re sad.
Clear eyes. Full Hearts. Can’t believe this incredible throwback photo! In Senator Kirsten Gillibrand’s new memoir, “Off the Sidelines,” the politician talks about her life in and out of office, including her thoughts on the current system of government and many other personal tidbits. But whatever. No one is talking about that stuff at the moment. Instead, the Internet is focused on a picture Gillibrand includes in the book: It’s of her and her roommate for a study abroad trip at Dartmouth: yup, that’s actress Connie Britton! “We were quite adventurous,” Gillibrand told HuffPost Live of her time with Britton in China. “We’d spend every weekend going someplace new in China and seeing and experiencing different things.” Britton is best known for her beloved role in Friday Night Lights, but she also starred in American Horror Story Season 1 and you can watch Nashville online these days to enjoy her role on ABC as a country music singer. “One weekend, we went to the beach, this place called Beihai, and we had crabs and all the great seafood,” Gillibrand added as a fun story. “We got home, we were so sick, we were all just throwing up non-stop … and my most vibrant memory is being taken to the hospital on the back of a bike, as you’re heaving – Connie was sick; I was sick – and they gave us this vial of black liquid and it was toad venom and they said drink this.” That’s weird. But not as weird as seeing this image of the two together. We love it!!! Celebrity Throwback Photos: What’s Changed? 1. The Rock Throwback Photo Greatest throwback photo ever? A grand jury indicted Texas Gov. Rick Perry on Friday for abusing the powers of his office, but the longest-serving governor in state history denies any wrongdoing. Perry allegedly abused the powers of the governor’s office by carrying out a threat to veto funding for state prosecutors investigating public corruption. He promised publicly to nix $7.5 million in funding over two years for the public integrity unit run by the office of Travis County D.A. Rosemary Lehmberg. This threat took place after Lehmberg, a Democrat, was convicted of drunken driving last year, but refused Perry’s calls to resign from her position. No one disputes that Perry is allowed to veto measures approved by the Legislature, as he did in following through on his promise to axe the funds. By using public pressure to boast that he would do so as a means of trying to Lehmberg to quit, however, the grand jury felt he broke the law. Perry, 64, and his legal team adamantly disagree. Mary Anne Wiley, Perry’s general counsel, predicted he will be cleared of the charges against him, and thinks the exercise is largely a political stunt. “The veto in question was made in accordance with the veto authority afforded to every governor under the Texas Constitution,” said Perry’s counsel. David L. Botsford, Perry’s defense attorney, said he was outraged by what he called “political abuse of the court system” with “no legal basis.” Lehmberg, and the grand jury that indicted Perry, are based in Austin, which is heavily Democratic, in contrast to most of the rest of conservative Texas. Abuse of official capacity is a first-degree felony with potential punishments of 5-99 years in prison. Coercion of a public servant carries 2-10 years. In office since 2000, Perry isn’t seeking re-election in November as he readies for what many believe will be second run for the White House in 2016. When he ran for president in 2012, Perry plummeted from brief front-runner for the Republican nomination to national punchline after a series of gaffes. None greater than his infamous “oops” moment: Rick Perry Photos & Clips 1. Rick Perry Stumbles in Debate Rick Perry’s campaign for president is probably done for after this almost comically bad performance in last night’s debate. OOPS.
Former White House press secretary and outspoken gun control advocate James Brady has died at the age of 73, his family said in a statement Monday. The family cited “a series of health issues” for the long-time political spokesman and figure who was paralyzed during a shooting 33 years ago. “Over the years, Jim inspired so many people as he turned adversity into accomplishment,” the family said in the statement, referencing the attack. That attack was the 1981 assassination attempt on his boss, President Ronald Reagan. Brady went on to lead a gun control campaign that bears his name. The federal law that requires background checks be conducted on handgun buyers, The Brady Bill, passed in the ensuing years, to James’ great pride. “Few Americans in history as directly responsible for saving as many lives as Jim,” said Dan Gross, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. On March 30, 1981, Brady accompanied Reagan to a speech in Washington, D.C. John Hinckley Jr. opened fire on the presidential party, nearly killing the president. Reagan sustained a bullet wound in one lung, and eventually recovered; Brady sustained a wound in the head that paralyzed the left side of his body. Through therapy and a series of brain operations, Brady suffered constant pain as well as some slurred speech and partial brain damage, but he survived. Brady retained the title of press secretary for the remainder of Ronald Reagan’s presidency, even as others performed the duties of the office. Current White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Brady “really revolutionized this job” and set a standard that successors should aspire to. Brady “showed his patriotism and commitment to the country by being very outspoken on an issue that was important to him and that he felt very strongly about.” Celebrities We Lost in 2014 1. The mid-term election thirst is real… GOP Senate Candidate Says Congress Impeaching Obama Is Possible The 2014 mid-term elections are fast approaching and, as expected, some of the struggliest of candidates are doing any and everything to gain a few extra votes. via Think Progress A Republican senate candidate opened the door to impeaching President Obama on Wednesday, telling a local radio station that Congress “could go in that direction.” Rep. Jack Kingston (R-GA), who is facing off off against businessman David Perdue next week to secure the Republican senate nomination, is one of the few elected Republicans officials to endorse impeachment since former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin called on the party to embrace the measure earlier this month. “Not a day goes by when people don’t talk to us about impeachment,” Kingston told the Aaron McCready Show. “I don’t know what rises to that level yet, but I know that there’s a mounting frustration that a lot of people are getting to and I think Congress is going to start looking at it very seriously.” He added, “I mean, I think it’s possible, it keeps getting worse and worse. It could go in that direction.” Kingston’s primary opponent does not support impeachment. Do you think there’s a chance that President Obama could be impeached?
