Hit the Road, Barack: Newsweek Cover Calls For Obama Defeat

It’s not quite Time’s breastfeeding cover , but Newsweek is generating plenty of headlines with its new controversial cover story calling for President Obama’s defeat. The title says it all: “Hit the Road, Barack. Why We Need a New President.” Niall Ferguson delves a list of what he calls Obama’s broken promises and budget failures, advocating instead for the Republican ticket of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan. In a statement addressing the cover, Newsweek’s executive editor, Justine Rosenthal, said they wanted to give readers a taste of both sides of the aisle. “These are arguments; they aren’t just reported pieces,” she says. This certainly isn’t the first time Newsweek has had a controversial cover of late, having dubbed Obama “ The First Gay President ” earlier this year. The magazine’s penchant for buzzy covers extends beyond politics: Its most talked about may have been of Princess Diana and Kate Middleton . Regarding the Obama cover, you can follow the link to read why the publication feels we need a new president , though it’s really nothing new. If you think Obama deserves four more years, you know the counter-arguments. If you want him out, you’ll probably agree with the bulk of it. Either way, it doesn’t offer much in the way of compelling insight and appears geared more towards generating viral buzz than hard-hitting journalism. Decision 2012: Who’s got your vote?

Hank Williams Jr. on President Obama: We’ve Got a Muslim President and We Hate Him!

Ah, Hank Williams Jr. Guy really needs to join fellow musicians Ted Nugent and Dave Mustaine on a Anti-Obama Conspiracy Tour 2012. The sound bites would be incredible. At his concert Friday night at the Iowa State Fair – where Obama bought beers earlier in the week – Williams absolutely laid into the President on stage. What did he say, exactly? Following Williams’ song “We Don’t Apologize For America” a chant of “U-S-A, U-S-A, U-S-A” broke out amongst the crowd, according to the Des Moines Register . Hank told the crowd he was their mouthpiece, and said, “We’ve got a Muslim president who hates farming, hates the military, hates the US and we hate him!” The cheers that followed were loud and enthusiastic. A hard-line Republican, Williams was fired by ESPN last fall after dropped after he made similarly offensive comments about President Obama last year. Amazingly, Hank’s belief that Barack is Muslim (he’s Christian) is only the second most absurd thing we’ve heard a musician say about him this week. Did you guys know Obama staged the Aurora shooting ?!? [Photos: WENN.com]

Rick Santorum: Obama Forces Catholics to Sin!

Former Presidential candidate Rick Santorum claims that the Obama administration is forcing Catholics to sin, primarily with its health care law. At a campaign event for Mitt Romney, Santorum said that the President “is directly assaulting the First Amendment and freedom of religion.” “He is going to tell you what to do in the practice of your faith. He is forcing business people right now to do things that are against their conscience.” “If you’re a Catholic – you’ll have to go to confession … to confess that you are complying with a government program that is a sin in the Catholic church.” He was referring to Obamacare (a.k.a. the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act) requiring most employers to offer insurance that covers contraception. Claiming that President Obama forces Catholics to violate their faith , a common talking point among some Republicans, is a tough sell for several reasons: Studies indicate that many – some say as many as 98 percent – of sexually active Catholic women have used an artificial method of contraception. Churches are exempt from Obama’s contraception rule entirely and faith-based organizations that morally oppose it are offered a work-around. The Supreme Court upheld Obamacare ‘s constitutionality this year, which likely wouldn’t have happened if it violated the First Amendment. Romney enforced a similar contraception mandate as Massachusetts Governor. Those are just facts. If you want to debate Santorum’s logic on a philosophical level, other pillars of the GOP platform might also be affronts to his faith. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops lambasted Paul Ryan’s budget – which cuts assistance for the poor in order to offset tax cuts for the wealthy – this year. This summer, a network of nuns protested the budget, saying that “Catholic teaching is based on solidarity” and the proposed cuts “doesn’t pass the moral test.” Speaking of cut, have you seen Paul Ryan shirtless ? Colorado Shooting Victim to Dave Mustaine: You’re an Idiot

Dave Mustaine’s claim that President Obama is responsible for the Aurora, Colo., shooting tragedy last month are ridiculous, says victim Carli Richards. Richards, one of the 70 people who was shot in the theater that night (and one of the 58 to survive it), hit back at Mustaine’s conspiracy theory today. After hearing that Mustaine said Obama staged the Aurora shooting to push an anti-gun agenda, Richards said the rocker likely just wants attention: “Some people think the President is a good scapegoat but he didn’t shoot me,” she said. “It’s obviously absurd and people who make up conspiracies just want attention .” “Everybody is emotional at this time and needs to blame somebody I guess.” “I don’t think they realize the consequences of not being responsible for your own actions and James Holmes needs to be held accountable for his, to whatever extent the criminal justice system deems fit.” Speaking of the actual person responsible, Richards, 22, previously said she’d like Holmes to die a slow, painful death , as lethal injection is too humane. What do you think: Death penalty for Holmes? [Photos: WENN.com]

Report: Parents of Honey Boo Boo Investigated for Child Abuse

According to a new report in The National Enquirer , the parents of Honey Boo Boo aren’t just groan-worthy reality stars. There was a time when they were considered law-breaking child abusers. The tabloid claims that the Thompsons were visited by the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services in March, not long after a Toddler & Tiaras clip (below) aired of June Thompson giving her child “Go Go Juice” and roadkill for dinner.

Kelsey Grammer Blames Emmy Snub on Republican Political Views

Kelsey Grammer, the star of Boss on Starz, suggested last night that he may have been snubbed by the Emmys because of his Republican leanings. Grammer’s role as a ruthless Chicago mayor won him a Golden Globe, yet he isn’t even among the 2012 Emmy nominees , which Jay Leno was puzzled by. The Tonight Show host asked Grammer why that was. His response: “It may have to do with several things, honestly, but I think it’s possible… I mean, I am a… I’m a declared out of the closet Republican in Hollywood.” “Do I believe it’s possible that some young person, young voting actor – or even older voting member for the Emmys – would sit there and go …” “‘Yeah, that’s a great performance, but ooooooooooooh, I just hate everything he stands for?’ [Cue sarcasm.] I don’t believe that’s possible.” Grammer has won Emmys for Cheers, Frazier , and even The Simpsons , but he claims he only publicized his political views after his last win (2006). The rebuttal to Grammer’s comment is that no matter how good he is on Boss , it’s on Starz, and only has around 300,000 viewers per episode. It’s possible liberal voters don’t care for his politics, but how many even know that about him, let alone care? Enough to cost him an Emmy nod? Also, if any voters snubbed Kelsey for personal reasons (a big if), wouldn’t his ugly, public split with Camille Grammer be a more likely reason? You be the judge: Think Kelsey is snubbed because of his views?

Four More Beers: President Obama Grabs Some Buds at Iowa State Fair

With V.P. nominee Paul Ryan energizing the Republican base and Joe Biden trying to rile up … well, everybody, President Obama campaigned for reelection at the Iowa State Fair yesterday, making his case to voters the old-fashioned way: Giving away free beers at the Budweiser tent. Barack actually yelled to the crowd, “Hey, everybody who’s over 21, you gotta buy a beer!” Obama then bought 12 – two for himself, 10 for people in line behind him. Obama’s appearance was a poorly-kept secret, drawing thousands of fans, and creating security nightmares at the Hawkeye State’s popular annual event. But come on, a free beer from the Prez? Totally worth it. Watch a couple of videos of his visit after the jump … Obama at Iowa State Fair

Robert Pattinson Walks Red Carpet of Cosmopolis Premiere

After laying low for awhile, following the heartbreak brought on by Kristen Stewart’s affair , Robert Pattinson pulled double public duty last night. First, he appeared as a guest on The Daily Show , eating ice cream with Jon Stewart and refraining from any bashing of his lying ex-girlfriend. Pattinson then went straight from there to he Museum Of Modern Art in New York City, where he walked the red carpet of the Cosmopolis , which opens in select cities this Friday. Sources say the star looked “serious” at the event. But can you blame him? Click through pictures of Pattinson at the premiere below. We agree that he looks serious… seriously sexy!

Sarah Palin Not Invited to Speak at GOP Convention

Former Alaska Governor and V.P. nominee Sarah Palin will not speak at, or even attend, the Republican National Convention, she confirmed in a statement. “This year is a good opportunity for other voices to speak at the convention and I’m excited to hear them,” Palin, the star of the 2008 convention, said. “Everything I said at the 2008 convention about then-candidate (Barack) Obama still stands today,” the 48-year-old professional celebrity added. Palin’s apparent decision to steer clear of the convention marks a stark contrast from four years ago, when she took the presidential race by storm. Accepting the GOP Vice Presidential nomination, she electrified the party faithful and received widespread praise from previously skeptical pundits. That also turned out to be her high water mark, however, and her absence from this year’s event may indicate what a polarizing figure she’s become. Sources connected to both Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney’s camps said she backed out of the RNC altogether after not being offered a speaking slot. She said she supports Republican presidential candidate Romney and his running mate, Congressman Paul Ryan , but is focusing her efforts elsewhere. Big Republican names such as Chris Christie, Condoleezza Rice, John McCain, Marco Rubio and even Rick Santorum will speak at the convention. Romney will officially be nominated on August 30. Who do you want to win in 2012:
