Star Jones Tensely Reunites With Former “View” Co-Host On Camera

Excerpt from:

Star Jones appeared on “The Joy Behar Show” on Monday night to chat, for the first time since 2006, with her former ‘The View’ co-host, and you could see the tension in the air! Star was promoting her new novel “Satan’s Sisters,” which, appropriately, revolves around a daytime television talk show host. Wonder how much is fiction and how much comes from her real life? While meant to be promoting her new novel, Star did discuss her exit from “The View,” and even hinted at the possibility of returning to the program… but only as a guest. Star, who spent nine seasons on “The View” admitted that her last year on the show was torturous, “The first eight years were great, [but the last season was] miserable… It was probably the most emotionally destroying time.” When Joy claims that she left the show “angrily,” Star cuts in, saying she left “dramatically,” and she still maintains that she was fired from the show and that the network leaked information about her to the press. Star clearly still harbors some resentment to Behar – watch her facial expressions – calling her out for not reaching out when she underwent open-heart surgery last year. “You didn’t call, you didn’t write” Jones said, to which Behar apologized, and claims she “didn’t know.” Sure, she didn’t. Star claims that “elements” of Joy, and the other hosts, are in the novel, and judging by the way the two interacted throughout the interview, I’m not sure they’re the good elements! I’m definitely going to have to pick up a copy of “Satan’s Sisters” when it comes out. Jason Bateman Calls ‘Arrested Development’ Movie Plot ‘Incredible’

‘It’s everything you would want it to be and more,’ actor tells MTV News. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Jason Bateman Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Despite David Cross’ hilariously pessimistic outlook on the possibility of an “Arrested Development” movie, exec producer Ron Howard wasn’t kidding when he told MTV News that an adaptation of the TV series is “a real priority” for creator Mitch Hurwitz. How do we know? Well, aside from just really, really hoping he wasn’t kidding, Jason Bateman recently tossed us some info that indicates Hurwitz is very much plowing forward with a script — five years after the show’s cancellation. “For the very first time, [Hurwitz] sat me down last week to talk about what he’s got and where he’s going and what do I think,” Bateman told us while promoting his upcoming comedy “Paul.” “As a fan of the show, I was vibrating with excitement that he was pulling me behind the curtain.” Mind you, Bateman still hasn’t seen a single page of a script, but the mere fact that he had a meeting about the project was enough to encourage the actor that, at long last, an “Arrested” movie will actually become a reality. “I can confirm what his update was, which was that he is very deep into the work on it,” Bateman said. “The odds of him getting it done before the end of the year, as he says he wants to, are good.” So, um, what did Hurwitz actually dish about the story line? Bateman didn’t let any details slip out other than to say the concept is “incredible.” “It’s everything you would want it to be and more,” he added. “I really hope he finishes soon so we have a shot at doing it before the end of the year.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Paul.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Madonna’s Daughter’s Role In ‘W.E.’ Is Revealed

Lourdes plays ‘a super-cute, younger version of my character,’ co-star Abbie Cornish tells MTV News. By Eric Ditzian Abbie Cornish Photo: MTV News Madonna wrapped production on “W.E.,” her second directorial effort, in October, and now reports are suggesting she’s looking to premiere the movie at the Venice Film Festival, which takes place from August 31 to September 10. The film’s co-star, Abbie Cornish, not only confirmed the possibility of a Venice debut to MTV News, but also revealed the mysterious role Madonna’s daughter, Lourdes, will be playing. “I heard yesterday,” Cornish told us about Venice, while promoting her upcoming thriller, “Limitless.” “That’d be amazing.” “W.E” follows a “Julie & Julia”-esque dual story line, one featuring Cornish as a contemporary woman obsessed with the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and another focusing on the royal couple itself. News that Lourdes would appear in a small role surfaced last fall, when photos of the teen in a schoolgirl’s uniform popped up online, but until now the nature of her part was unclear. Cornish’s character, it turns out, has a deep connection to that of Lourdes. “She actually plays a younger version of my character,” Cornish said, adding that because they portray the same person, they never got to share actual screen time. “She’s a super-cute, younger version of my character.” “W.E.” marks Madonna’s second feature following “Filth and Wisdom,” which hit only a handful of theaters in 2008. The new project, the pop star turned filmmaker said last year, has been an obsession of hers even before “Filth and Wisdom” and took her two-and-a-half years to write. “I made ‘Filth and Wisdom’ because I realized that I didn’t really have a right to make a bigger film until I made a smaller film — and learned how to make a film,” she said. According to Cornish, though, the Queen of Pop is a born filmmaker. “Madonna is a natural director,” the actress told us. “It’s in her nature. She’s a Leo and she really represents the Leos very well. She’s a very smart woman, very well read. She really absorbs a lot about whatever she’s involved in. I think she really loves learning. It was interesting to see her evolve throughout the filmmaking process. She’s such a cool woman.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Lindsay Lohan ‘Will Be Going To Jail’ If She Accepts Plea Deal

Judge tells Lohan if she pleads guilty to theft charge, she will serve time for probation violation. By James Montgomery Lindsay Lohan (file) Photo: Pool/ Getty Images Lindsay Lohan arrived at Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday morning (February 23) facing the possibility of jail time, after being offered a plea deal related to her alleged theft of a $2,500 necklace on January 22. She left without accepting the deal, and with the prospect of jail still very much in the cards. Lohan, who wore a low-cut black top to the proceedings, was told by Judge Keith Schwartz that if she does accept the Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers’ offer to settle the case, she “will be going to jail.” According to TMZ , the deal is for six months of jail time. Schwartz — who would handle sentencing if she accepts the plea — let it be known that he wouldn’t allow her celebrity to affect his decision, telling her, bluntly, “I don’t care that you’re Lindsay Lohan. “One of the things about me is that I treat everybody the same,” Schwartz continued. “What I look to in sentencing is, ‘What is the prior record?’ In this particular case, there has been so much speculation in the press [that] I’m just going to tell you a couple of things: If you plead in front of me, you are going to jail. There might be an issue about the amount of time, but if the case settles here, you will be doing to jail.” Schwartz said that if Lohan accepts the DA’s deal — thereby pleading guilty to felony grand theft — she would be found in violation of her probation and would serve time. He also recommended a psychological evaluation of Lohan to help him determine an appropriate sentence. After posting bail on the felony charge, Lohan took to Twitter to proclaim her innocence, and, with attorney Shawn Holley at her side, she maintained that tact on Wednesday. All indications are she plans to stand trial on the charge and, if found guilty, could face up to one year in state prison. Lohan is due back in court on March 10. But before then, Schwartz instructed both attorneys to meet and discuss the possibility of accepting the plea. Related Photos The Highs And Lows Of Lindsay Lohan Related Artists Lindsay Lohan

Jay-Z Teams Up With Studio For ‘Annie’ Remake Starring Willow Smith

‘We’re developing a true superstar in Willow,’ Jay says in a statement announcing the project. By Aly Semigran Jay-Z Photo: Rob Loud/ Getty Images When Jay-Z sampled “It’s a Hard Knock Life” from the classic Broadway show-turned-movie musical “Annie,” who would have guessed it was simply a sneak preview of bigger things to come? It’s been announced that Jay has teamed up with Overbrook Entertainment, a film production company whose partners include Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, James Lassiter and Ken Stovitz. One of the first projects on the Jay-Z/Overbook agenda will, in fact, be remaking “Annie.” After rumors hit the Net about the possibility of the update, Variety confirmed Wednesday (January 26) that Sony will bring the reimagining of the musical about a spirited orphan to the big screen. Will and Jada plan to make a family affair out of this latest endeavor as their daughter, 10-year-old Willow Smith (who scored a massive hit this year with the infectious “Whip My Hair”), will play the coveted lead role. In a statement, Jay-Z said of the group’s latest venture, “The Overbrook Entertainment family and I have a unified vision,” adding, “We’re developing a true superstar in Willow.” Willow’s rising star (the pint-size singer recently tweeted, “Are you excited for my album?! It’s coming soon……..VERY soon!!”) prompted Columbia Pictures President Doug Belgrad to state, “The time is right to bring back ‘Annie’ to the big screen. We’re true believers in Willow’s talent and believe she will be perfect in this role.” Of course, this isn’t the first time Jay, Lassiter and the Smiths have teamed up, as the power foursome worked as co-producers on the Tony-nominated Broadway show “Fela!” Nor is it the first time Overbrook (which has pulled in a staggering $2.5 billion in revenue) will make a film featuring one of the Smiths’ children. In addition to releasing Will Smith’s blockbuster movies including “Hitch” and “Hancock,” their son Jaden Smith starred in Overbrook’s “The Pursuit of Happyness” and, most recently, a remake of “The Karate Kid.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Has Angelina Jolie’s ‘Cleopatra’ Found A Director In Paul Greengrass?

‘Bourne’ director is reportedly close to being signed for the movie. By Eric Ditzian Angelina Jolie in “Alexander” Photo: Warner Bros. For a hot minute, it appeared as though James Cameron would be switching up his directorial itinerary, sweeping into the world of ancient Egypt and helming the Angelina Jolie-starring “Cleopatra” before jetting back to Pandora for his “Avatar” sequels. Now it seems that Paul Greengrass — who, for a similarly hot, similarly short minute, was circling the director’s chair for the Cameron-produced “Fantastic Voyage” — will be taking on directing duties for “Cleopatra,” the 3-D adaptation of the current New York Times best-seller, “Cleopatra: A Life.” Deadline is reporting that producer Scott Rudin has said “we’re pretty close” to signing a director for the project and that sources tell the website filmmakers “like the idea” of Greengrass for the gig. Jolie, though, hasn’t yet discussed the possibility of Greengrass, who left the “Bourne” franchise late in 2009. “I hope to one day [play her], but we don’t have it all together,” Jolie told MTV last month about the film. “All the pieces are not together.” Sony is said to be eyeing a production start in 2011 and readily acknowledges that the budget will be massive. Rudin described the script, which has been penned by Brian Helgeland (who also wrote the “Green Zone,” which Greengrass directed) and is based on Stacy Schiff’s biography, as presenting “a completely revisionist Cleopatra, a much more grown-up, sophisticated version.” “She’s not a sex kitten, she’s a politician, strategist, warrior,” he went on to explain. “In the Joseph Mankiewicz movie, Elizabeth Taylor is a seductress, but the histories of Cleopatra have been written by men. This is the first to be written by a woman. It felt like such a blow-the-doors-off-the-hinges idea of how to tell it, impossible to resist.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Gwyneth Paltrow To Host ‘Saturday Night Live’

‘Country Strong’ star and musical guest Cee Lo will appear on January 15 episode. By Eric Ditzian Gwyneth Paltrow Photo: Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic After Jim Carrey opens up the 2011 run of “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, Gwyneth Paltrow will take over hosting duties on January 15, NBC announced on Tuesday (January 4). The appearance will mark the Oscar-winning actress’ third time hosting “SNL” and comes as she’s promoting her musical drama, “Country Strong,” which expands into a wide release this Friday. Paltrow will be joined by musical guest Cee Lo , whose hit single, “F— You,” she covered to wide acclaim on “Glee” last year. “I really am just flattered … that not only ‘Glee’ [covered it], but it was Gwyneth [singing],” Cee Lo told MTV News last November. “I didn’t realize when we first did the clearances for it. I just thought that maybe it would be sung by the cast, but [it] turns out to be her. I’m like, ‘That’s just, that’s too awesome.’ ” Paltrow has put her musical talents front and center in recent months. In addition to “Country Strong” and her turn on “Glee” (where she also performed a mash-up of Rihanna’s “Umbrella” and “Singin’ in the Rain”), the actress performed at the Country Music Awards in November and has already booked a return trip to “Glee.” She’s even discussed the possibility of making an entire country album. “I think if I was going to make a country record, it would be like a super-bare, kind of stripped-back kind of country,” Paltrow told MTV News. “Like a little bit of bluegrass-influenced kind of thing.” Related Videos MTV Rough Cut: ‘Country Strong’ MTV News Extended Play: Cee Lo Related Photos The Evolution Of: Gwyneth Paltrow Related Artists Gwyneth Paltrow Cee Lo Green
