Suspect?? Chancellor Of UNC–Chapel Hill To Step Down Amidst Cheating Scandal

For the love of sports, grades were changed without authorization and an ongoing investigation had already caused the schools football program to be put on a three-year-long probation and was banned from 2012 postseason play by the NCAA. Thorp, who became chancellor in 2008, notified UNC President Tom Ross yesterday of his intent to resign on June 30, saying it was in the best interests of the university, the school said today in a statement on its website. The resignation follows the results of investigations that found academic misconduct and unauthorized grade-changing in the college’s Department of African and Afro-American Studies. In March, the school’s football program was put on three year’s probation and banned from 2012 postseason play by the National Collegiate Athletic Association for rules violations including academic fraud. “I have pledged that we will be a better university, and I am 100 percent confident in that,” Thorp said in the statement. “We still have work to do, and I intend to be fully engaged in that until the day I walk out of this office.” The NCAA imposed the sanctions after finding a number of rules violations. The college sports governing body found that a former UNC assistant coach was paid by a former sports agent for access to athletes, and a former tutor wrote parts of class assignments for three football players. The tutor also paid for athletes’ airplane tickets and parking fines, the NCAA said. UNC produced a report May 2 after conducting its own investigation of the allegations. Thorp has commissioned three more reviews, the school said in its statement. Those will look at the new academic procedures and controls implemented at the school; whether academic misconduct occurred before 2007; and the future relationship of academics and athletics at the university. UNC’s board has also questioned Thorp about the resignations of fundraisers Matt Kupec and Tami Hansbrough, the mother of former UNC basketball star Tyler Hansbrough, according to the Charlotte Observer. The two school officers, who were known to be dating, stepped down after they were found to have questionable travel expenses, the newspaper reported last week. Thorp may have had to step down from his post as Chancellor but don’t worry…his azz gets to stay on UNC’s payroll. You see, he used to be a professor, researcher, AND chairman in the chemistry department so homeboy is getting his old job back. Do you think he did the right thing or he’s stepping down now before he gets linked to any of the shadiness that’s enveloped the campus?? Source Images via Twitter

Snoop Dogg Endorses Obama: He Cleaned Half That $h!t Up in Four Years!

Snoop Dogg / Snoop Lion has offered an official endorsement of President Barack Obama, laying out his arguments in concise, not entirely illogical fashion. At the Toronto International Film Festival, he made the case for giving Obama four more years in an expletive-filled, absurd, yet compelling manner. “We need to give Obama four more years,” he said. “Bush f*%ked up for eight years, so you gotta at least give him eight years. He cleaned half the $h!t up in four years.”

Kanye West Raps to Mitt Romney: Pay Your Taxes!

Poor Mitt Romney. First, it comes out that Nicki Minaj is actually not voting for him in November. Now, in the track “To the World” (off the compilation album “Cruel Summer”), Kanye West takes a shot at the Republican nominee for President by hitting him where it counts: In Romney’s tax returns. “Mitt Romney don’t pay no tax,” West decrees in a line from the single, following that quip with: “Mitt Romney don’t pay no tax.” Yes, again. We think he has a point he wants to make. Listen for yourself:

Elsewhere In The World: Jamaica Offended By Zimbabwe President’s Remarks On Their People Being Drunks And Chronic Heads…”Black Men Should Stick Up For Each Other”

Jamaica Offended By Mugabe’s Remarks On People Being Drunk And Lazy Comments by an African leader portraying the men of Jamaica as chronic drunkards and unambitious pot smokers have become the talk of towns across this Caribbean island. People are debating the matter on street corners, in letters to the editor and on radio talk shows. In unscripted asides during a roughly three-hour speech last week at a research exposition, Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe said Jamaican “men are always drunk,” have no interest in higher education, and people freely smoke chronic. “The men want to sing and do not go to colleges, some are dreadlocked. Let us not go there,” Mugabe told the crowd at the University of Zimbabwe in Harare. His comments in a mixture of both English and the Shona language were corroborated by The Associated Press after speaking to several reporters who attended the gathering. Over the years, Mugabe has repeatedly made disparaging remarks about dreadlocked Rastafarians, whom he once described as having “moths and mud” in their hair. Rastafarianism, best known for its ritual use of chronic and the dreadlock hair style worn by followers, emerged in Jamaica in the 1930s out of anger over the oppression of blacks. A small minority of Jamaicans are adherents. Glen Harris, a laborer and father of two children, said he felt irritated when he heard about the Zimbabwean president’s chiding remarks on a local radio program. Like the large majority of Jamaica’s population, Harris is black. “This is an African leader talking like this? Black man should stick up for each other. We’re all Africans,” he said on a Kingston street of low-slung concrete buildings and sheet metal fences. Although some foreigners have an image of Jamaica as a laid-back, sun-soaked slice of paradise where unhurried people smoke marijuana without a care, marijuana use is illegal and many islanders are socially conservative churchgoers who quietly endure stereotypes of their country. Still, a few Jamaicans aren’t aggrieved with Mugabe, who received a top government honor during a 1996 visit. They note that their island is the largest producer of marijuana in the Caribbean and that far more women graduate from university than men, and say Mugabe may have a point, even if he was being overly broad by disparaging Jamaican men. “Is President Robert Mugabe really on to something? Certainly, his observation that our ‘universities are full of women’ while our ‘men want to sing and do not go to colleges’ is a truism, which none can deny,” Northern Caribbean University administrator Vincent Peterkin wrote in a letter to the editor of The Jamaica Gleaner newspaper. Jamaican Information Minister Sandrea Falconer said Wednesday that the foreign affairs ministry, led by A.J. Nicholson, was still trying to confirm if Mugabe made the remarks. “I know his ministry is still trying to authenticate the source, and after we will respond,” Falconer said in a brief phone interview. In a written statement, Nicholson stressed that “Jamaican men and women from all walks of life have made valuable contributions to national development and have made their mark on the world stage.” Thoughts?? Shady Azz BP Oil Attempts Beach Cleanup After Hurricane Isaac–Asks Permission To ‘Deep Clean’

Yeah…go ahead and tell us one more time that you cleaned all that isht up! This just sounds like another PR scheme to us. BP PLC says it wants to aggressively clean up buried oil exposed on Louisiana’s beaches by Hurricane Isaac’s churning waves. The company wants to dig deep into beaches and remove oil buried since a BP well blew out on April 20, 2010, leading to the nation’s largest offshore spill. But digging deep can bring its own problems — it can be harmful to creatures that live on beaches or feed on them and it also may lead to erosion by loosening up sand. Erosion is a constant worry in Louisiana because the state is losing land at an alarming rate. Mike Utsler, the president of BP’s Gulf Coast Restoration Organization, said Tuesday the company has asked the Coast Guard and state and local officials for permission to do the “deep-cleaning.” In case you didn’t know, BP is still the largest fuel supplier to the U.S. Military. The Gulf-Killin’ company received 49 percent more in defense contracts this past fiscal year…making a 33 percent profit to $1.35 billion! Guess we can all sleep a little better at night knowing BP will do a good job…they’ll know exactly where to look since they’re the ones that buried all that “black gold” there in the first place!
