Bozell Statement on Networks’ Lack of Coverage of Racist Remarks from NAACP Speaker

Managing Editor’s Note:   Earlier today, Media Research Center President Brent Bozell demanded that the media cover the explosive video footage of an NAACP banquet speaker admitting her racist views and abuse of power that led to her resignation as a Department of Agriculture official yesterday. The full text of that statement is found below: The liberal media are deliberately spiking the shocking video that reveals an NAACP banquet speaker admitting her racist views and actions. We’ve waited a full 24 hours to see if any coverage of this exposé would surface.  So far, nothing but crickets. The ABC, CBS and NBC evening and morning ‘news’ shows have all failed to even mention the damning video admission that is dripping with disdain for white people and that caused the official to tender her resignation. Worse yet, it comes from the NAACP, the same organization that has feverishly accused the Tea Parties of racism. The thoroughly untrue accusation against the Tea Parties has been propped up and propelled by the incessant reporting of these same networks. Yet they decide to thwart this story about the NAACP. The only thing more newsworthy than the charges of racism are the hypocritical charges of racism.  The media must report this scandal.

‘Today’ Declares Itself a Gay ‘Ally,’ Will Permit Same-Sex Couples in Wedding Contest

NBC proved that it will respond quickly to charges of bias – at least if the charges come from a left-wing activist group. When NBC announced the “Today” show’s annual summer wedding contest, the network made it clear homosexual couples would not be eligible since New York does not license same-sex marriages. The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation issued a press release condemning the decision and urged its members to complain to the network. After a meeting between GLAAD and NBC officials Thursday, the network announced it was reversing its decision . The “Today” show said its intention was neither “discriminatory” nor “exclusive.” NBC reminded viewers of its inclusion of same-sex couples in 2005, noting that “Today” is a “longtime supporter” and “ally” of the LGBT community. Appeased, GLAAD praised NBC for “living up to its own high standard of fairness.” To further accommodate its allies in the gay community, NBC extended the contest application deadline to Monday, July 12, and promised that future wedding contests “will be inclusive of all couples.” The contest, which has aired for 11 years on “Today,” gives viewers the chance to vote for one couple to have a wedding celebration professionally planned for them and broadcast live on “Today.” This is not the first time NBC has proven itself biased in covering the gay lifestyle. In August 2008, NBC Universal took out a full page ad in the program for the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association convention declaring, ” Your Victories are Our Victories .” When the California Supreme Court rules laws banning same-sex marriage were unconstitutional, NBC’s Pete Williams declared on the May 15, 2008, “Nightly News” that it was a “huge victory for advocates of gay rights.” Most recently, in April 2010, NBC announced a partnership with gay magazine The Advocate.

‘Eclipse’ Director David Slade Reveals Kristen Stewart’s Deleted Scenes

‘There’s a lovely scene between Angela and Bella where they’re just two girls getting along,’ filmmaker says of possible ‘Eclipse’ DVD bonuses. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz David Slade Photo: MTV News Last November, “New Moon” director Chris Weitz told us that the DVD release of the second film in the “Twilight” franchise would deliver 20 minutes of deleted footage for hungry fans. But when the disc dropped in March, no such scenes were included on virtually any available version . Weitz eventually copped to the mistake, but “Twilight” fans might remain wary about promises of deleted scenes for the DVD of “Eclipse.” So approach director David Slade’s statements with both the usual enthusiasm and abundant caution, because he’s promised MTV News that the DVD will definitely contain deleted scenes — and at least two will feature Kristen Stewart’s Bella Swan. “There’s a lovely scene between Angela and Bella where they’re just two girls getting along and they’re just talking about girl stuff, about jealousy,” said Slade of the two high school friends. “Bella’s so completely and utterly wrapped up in all of this stuff — that Angela has no idea about — [and Bella] is blind to the basic human stuff in front of her. It’s a lovely scene, and I’m sure it will be on the DVD. It just stopped the film dead. The film had a pace and it just stopped dead.” Indeed, there is very little in “Eclipse” of Bella in her high school setting: one or two scenes in the cafeteria, a brief graduation scene, and not much else. Rather, the movie focuses on the Bella-Edward-Jacob love triangle and the growing threat Victoria and her army of newborn vampires pose to the community. With a film that runs just over two hours, a director is simply forced to make tough choices. “It was one of those things we ended up reluctantly removing, but it will be there for later, for prosperity,” Slade said of the scene. Aside from Bella and Angela’s conversation, Slade admitted that not much was left on the cutting-room floor. “There’s not much fat,” he said. But there is a touching scene between Bella and her father that fans can get excited to see. “We did this one scene of Charlie just telling Bella how proud he is of her, which was wonderful and really touching,” Slade said. “But again, it just kind of stopped you.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . By Jocelyn Vena Rihanna Photo: Christopher Peterson/ FilmMagic Rihanna has canceled her July 2 concert at the White River Amphitheatre in Auburn, Washington, which was scheduled to be the opening night of her tour, according to the Auburn Reporter. A press release from Live Nation states that the date had to be canceled due to “production changes.” That means Rihanna’s Last Girl on Earth Tour will now kick off on July 4 in Vancouver. The paper didn’t have information on what the production changes entail. Refunds will be given for the show in Auburn at point of purchase. The July 22 show in Phoenix and the July 24 show in Dallas have also been nixed. Nicki Minaj was originally scheduled to be one of the opening acts for the tour alongside pop party girl Ke$ha. But, Minaj had to back out of the tour in order to work on her album. Travie McCoy is slated to take her spot. Ke$ha told MTV News that Minaj’s exit was a “bummer,” but the “Tik Tok” singer had big plans for what she wanted to wear on the tour. “I want to wear a lot of laser beams,” she said. She added that her show will be one big party. “It definitely is going to have, like, a dance-party vibe,” she explained. “I just want it to be really, really fun. Let’s just say I can’t disclose, but I have, like, a really, really awesome thing that’s going to happen … and you can only understand it if you see it in person.” By press time, a rep for Rihanna had not responded to MTV News’ request for comment about the cancelation. Media Continue War against BPA; Claim It Causes ‘All Sorts’ of Health Problems

Toys, food, packaging. Chemicals are in them all. The media make a living by sensationalizing the potential dangers of just about everything in our modern world. Bisphenol-A (BPA), a chemical found in many plastic items, was no exception . The news media have been scaremongering about BPA for years, even going so far as to compare it to tobacco at one point, but a cautious tone from the government and left-wing junk science prompted recent hyperbole from reporters. Reuters warned of a ” potential carcinogen in my soup ,” June 9. News website Newser.com took the fear-mongering a step further calling BPA ” a known carcinogen ” in a May 19 story about the “dangerously high” levels of BPA in canned food and drink. But according to the American Chemistry Council, a trade group representing the chemical industry, BPA is not a known carcinogen. Its website says “based on sound, robust scientific evidence, some government bodies around the world have concluded that BPA is not carcinogenic in humans .” The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) latest report on BPA, a chemical used to harden plastic and a primary ingredient in the plastic resin that protects the flavor of food in metal cans, said that studies “have thus far supported the safety of current low levels of human exposure to BPA.” New results from the National Toxicology Program caused FDA to request more research about the effects of BPA and recommended “reasonable steps” to “reduce” exposure, particularly in infants and children. FDA made it clear that BPA has not yet been proven harmful to humans at current levels. Scientific evidence hasn’t prevented the news networks from trying to scare the public away from BPA. In an interview on the Feb. 25 CBS “Early Show,” food critic Katie Lee told co-anchor Harry Smith to avoid plastic containers for leftover food because they usually contain BPA. “And that’s been shown to cause liver disease, heart failure, all sorts of things,” Lee claimed. Smith chimed in saying, “I think it’s already been banned in Canada.” Smith was wrong about Canada – they didn’t ban the chemical outright, rather they banned the chemical from use in baby bottles. Neither Lee nor Smith consulted any scientists, or mentioned anything about the many studies that have confirmed the safety of BPA. Health News Digest pointed out that more than 5,400 scientific journal articles have been published on the safety of BPA. The FDA has deemed BPA safe for years, only choosing to caution people about “some concern” relating to children and infants in 2010. The FDA made it clear that more research was needed before the agency would decide to regulate the chemical. But that hasn’t stopped the network news media from warning viewers not to use BPA products because they “cause” health problems. Jeff Stier of American Council on Science and Health reacted to the May 2010 canned good study saying, “Of course BPA is ‘linked’ to obesity and cancer, because these people linked it. There’s no causal relationship, but you can say there is a link between anything you want, just based on animal studies.” A Junk Science Study Stirs Up Media against BPA In May 2010, the left-wing, pro-regulatory group U.S. PIRG sent out a press release about the National Workgroup for Safe Markets’ study of canned foods and drinks in which they claimed “alarming levels” of BPA were present in common canned foods. “BPA is a synthetic sex hormone and exposure to low doses has been linked to abnormal behavior, diabetes, heart disease, infertility, developmental and reproductive harm, and obesity, which raises the risk of early puberty, a known risk factor for breast cancer,” the PIRG released claimed. That press release also touted liberal Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s, D- Calif., support for legislation to ban BPA in cans and other food and beverage containers. Feinstein is trying to add an amendment to ban BPA to S. 510, the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act . The media quickly repeated the scary study’s findings that BPA was found in 92 percent of canned goods tested. Reuters hyperbolically headlined its story: “Waiter, there’s a potential carcinogen in my soup.” CBS “Morning News” warned that “A new study finds food and drink from metal cans may be contaminated with a chemical linked to a number of disorders. And some lawmakers want the chemical banned.” While CBS’s Sandra Hughes mentioned that the study was tiny – only 50 cans were tested – she expressed no skepticism about the results on May 19. Her story was also stacked against BPA with two interviewees in favor of avoiding canned foods or banning the chemical, and only a statement from the Chemical Industry Council. On May 18, CNN took the study seriously enough that Elizabeth Cohen impractically advocated that people should “start your own garden” just before saying that the people who wrote the study “think that a lot of BPA can make you infertile.” Robert L. Brent, MD, PhD, D.Sc., and adviser to the American Council on Science and Health condemned the study as a lot of hype designed to frighten the public. Brent said, “The National Workgroup for Safe Markets publication wasn’t intended to educate the public about risks, but to frighten unsophisticated scientists and the public. We should respond to such garbage with good science.” He explained that human exposure to BPA has “been exhaustively studied.” After mentioning different studies that have bee done, Brent said “the important point is that human serum concentrations of BPA are very, very low, far below any expected toxic effects.” “The overwhelming scientific evidence points to the conclusion that at current human exposure levels, BPA is not toxic – and specifically is not linked to the myriad diseases outlined in the National Workgroup for Safe Markets report released earlier this week,” Brent concluded. Coca-Cola also hit back against the study telling Reuters, “A person weighing 135 pounds (61 kg) would need to ingest more than 14,800 12-ounce cans of a beverage in one day to approach the FDA’s acceptable daily limit for BPA consumption.” But Reuters buried Coca-Cola’s statement and other information about the large amounts of BPA that would have to be ingested to be compared to rodent tests, waiting until the 38 th paragraph of its 55 paragraph story to bring it up. BPA Scare: 2008-2010 Journalists have hyped the dangers of BPA for years, despite evidence to the contrary. Back in April 2008, NBC’s “Today” warned about the reproductive dangers of ingesting BPA from reusable plastic water bottles. NBC had already campaigned against ordinary plastic water bottles, arguing that they were bad for the environment. But the miniscule levels of BPA found in reusable water bottles is thousands of times less than what levels linked to rodent health problems, according to Dr. Gilbert Ross of ACSH. But that didn’t stop “Today” from warning against many types of water bottles, including the popular Nalgene brand. “[I]n the meantime, you can always check that number on the bottom [the indicator of what type of plastic used is],” reporter Michelle Kosinski said, “or just go back to old-fashioned glass.” Some reporters have advocated a return to glassware without stating the obvious inconvenience (try biking with a heavy glass water bottle) and danger (glass shatters). In 2009, the crusade against BPA continued. MSNBC’s Dr. Nancy Snyderman, raised concerns about BPA saying “It’s a synthetic estrogen that some scientists believe can be linked to everything from breast cancer to obesity. We associate it with plastic water bottles, but now Consumer Reports says that BPA is even in canned foods.” But even Snyderman had to admit the study was inconclusive and based on “soft science.” Her guest New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof continued to hype the danger by comparing BPA to tobacco: “To me, it feels a little bit like tobacco in the 1970s when, you know, there is growing evidence and scientists understand the causal pathways and we don’t entirely understand at what dosage and at what stage of life those adverse consequences really build up.”  Like this article?  Sign up  for “The Balance Sheet,” BMI’s weekly e-mail newsletter.

Second Oil Rig has been leaking in Gulf since April 30th

In the wake of yet another possible oil spill in the Gulf region, the United States Coast Guard has decided to launch an investigation into the dark waters surrounding Taylor Energy Corporation's Ocean Saratoga rig, resting only 40 miles away from the Deepwater Horizon rig. Though the rig has been leaking since at least April 30, the rig's owner, Taylor Energy Corporation, and operator, Diamond Offshore Drilling, are both declining to comment. Taylor's spokesperson Denise Fields told Huffington Post that the company would be issuing a press release this afternoon. Mobile, Alabama's Press Register reported that a 10-mile long slick emanating from the rig is visible from space. Earlier today, Mother Jones's Kate Sheppard reported that John Amos of West Virginia-based nonprofit SkyTruth, was the first to notice the spill, observing an oil slick eleven miles off the coast of Louisiana. After viewing satellite images of the reported second spill, Amos concluded that the Deep Water Horizon and the Saratoga spills are independent of one another, meaning the Gulf cleanup situation may be getting worse before it gets better. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/06/08/ocean-saratoga-another-oi_n_604812.html http://blog.al.com/live/2010/06/another_gulf_oil_spill_well_ne.html added by: jeffissleeping

Crazy Christian Blames American Idol Ratings on Ellen’s Sexuality

American Idol experienced a decrease in ratings this season. New judge Ellen DeGeneres is a lesbian. Clearly, says Gary McCullough, the director of the Christian Newswire , these two facts are related. In a press release today, he wrote: I am confident that the producers of American Idol will… find a dozen other reasons for the drop in ratings. After all, what successful television producer could have a clue what wholesomeness is as long as they see promoting homosexuality as a virtue. If one of the judges was an abortion activist, or a political right winger and continued to insert comments in line with their activism, the same criticism would be true, and the show would suffer. What a great point. Ellen once joked on air about having loved a woman – that’s the exact same thing as a pro-choice judge telling a contestant: “You really killed that song, the same way women across the country should be free to kill their unborn babies.” McCullough added: Network television producers may or may not stop promoting homosexuality; but for certain they will learn to keep homosexual activism separate from the cash-cow of “family entertainment.” There is of course the insane possibility that Hollywood will forsake ratings… and continue down the path of change. Perhaps next we will see the pro-pedophilia group NAMBLA use its influence in Hollywood to have Dancing with the Stars seat Roman Polanski as a judge. Yes, he just compared homosexuality to pedophilia and statutory rape. This genius makes unassailable arguments. There’s no way season nine ratings were down because the contestants were boring, and the key demographic for Idol – a singing competition whose main, highly-rated season eight attraction was Adam Lambert – is clearly people that have a problem with gays. What do you think? Did Ellen’s sexuality contribute to the show’s lackluster ratings?
