Prosecutors to Seek Murder Charge Against Bruce Beresford-Redman

It won’t be long until former TV producer Bruce Beresford-Redman is arrested for killing his wife. According to the suspect’s attorney, Jaime Cancino Leon, prosecutors will make their decision early next week – and the most likely charge will be first-degree murder, stemming from the death of Monica Beresford-Redman last month in Cancun. Cancino told TMZ he’s displeased with Mexican officials because it’s easier for them to simply charge his client than actually investigate the case. “Bruce has never had the chance to defend himself,” the lawyer said. “They didn’t even give him the chance to participate in the investigation.” If a Mexican judge determines there’s probable cause to charge Beresford-Redman, he’ll likely get extradited to that country. A conviction of of first-degree murder there results in a prison sentence of four to 20 years.

Paula Abdul Has Got to Dance

Not all viewers believe this season of American Idol has been a bore. But we can all agree on one thing: it’s been far less nutty than seasons past. That’s because Paula Abdul couldn’t reach a new contract with Fox last August and walked away from the show. However, there’s good news on the slightly insane judge front: Abdul is returning to reality TV! She’ll serve as producer and lead judge on Got to Dance , a CBS competition that premieres in early 2010. According to a press release, the series will cover everything from “ballroom to break dance, bhangra to ballet, and tap to tango.” Rambling, incoherent critiques and a lot of comments on the contestants’ outfits? Don’t worry: Paula will have all that covered, too.

‘Teen Wolf’ Gets A Reboot In MTV Series

The show, which starts production this summer, is a darker take on the high school werewolf story. By Kara Warner Tyler Posey Photo: 3 Arts Entertainment Young men who spontaneously transform into wolves are hot right now, especially in the age of “Twilight.” Now, MTV is getting into the shape-shifting business with a modern spin on the cult-classic ’80s hit “Teen Wolf.” The series is said to be a departure from the film — a campy comedy that starred Michael J. Fox — and is described in a press release as a “sexy thriller set against the drama of high school life with a forbidden, romantic love story at its core.” The series centers on Scott McCall as the quintessential outsider, struggling to be recognized in a way that takes him out of high school anonymity. One night, his best friend, Stiles, convinces him to go into the woods to join a police search for a dead body. Scott ends up being attacked by a creature in the darkness, narrowly surviving with a vicious bite in his side. When he wakes up the next morning, he is greeted with strange surprises and a life that will never be the same. “We are always up for creative challenges at MTV,” said Liz Gateley, MTV senior vice president of series development. “We loved the conceit of the original film and knew the title had a great hook. The creative challenge was to take that title and reinvent it as a horror series for the MTV audience. It combines romance and high school to make ‘Teen Wolf’ the perfect thriller for MTV.” “Teen Wolf” stars Tyler Posey (“Maid in Manhattan,” “Brothers and Sisters”) as the newly bitten werewolf; Dylan O’Brien is Stiles; Crystal Reed is the mysterious new girl in town, Allison; and Tyler Hoechlin (“Road to Perdition,” “7th Heaven”) is the older and possibly dangerous werewolf, Derek Hale. “Teen Wolf” is slated to begin production this summer for 12 one-hour episodes. Are you excited to see a new spin on “Teen Wolf”? Let us know in the comments!

Gucci Mane To Be Released From Jail Wednesday

MC is expected to hold press conference immediately after his release. By Jayson Rodriguez, with additional reporting by MTV News staff Gucci Mane Photo: Rick Diamond/ Getty Images Gucci Mane is set to be freed from prison on Wednesday, just six months into a one-year sentence for a parole violation , and a rep for the MC told MTV News that the rapper will hold a press conference immediately upon his release. According to a spokesperson for Georgia’s Fulton County Jail, however, the rapper’s release time on Wednesday is yet to be confirmed. The spokesperson told MTV News on Tuesday (May 11) that Gucci Mane will be subject to routine check for any warrants that may have been issued during his incarceration. Pending the result of the check, he will be free to walk out of the facility. The actual time of his release, though, will be determined based on the backlog of prisoners also being released on that particular day. Gucci was sent to prison in November of last year after violating his probation for a second time, resulting in him being forced to finish a suspended sentence that he had already served six months of in 2008. Upon his last release from jail, the rapper picked up his frantic work pace and once again hit the mixtape circuit hard , increasing his profile to its highest point and resulting in a nod on the 2009 MTV News’ Hottest MC list. During his imprisonment, Gucci Mane has kept himself just as busy. His most recent album, The State Vs. Radric Davis was released to critical acclaim and another project, The BurrrPrint 2HD, was partially recorded behind bars and presented via his new label, 1017 Brick Squad. At press time, the nature of the rapper’s press conference was unclear; it’s believed Gucci Mane will address the recent firing of his manager and booking agency. Both entities drew fire in an that alleged improper business tactics. In a press release earlier this month, Gucci Mane announced the formation of a new team that will guide his career, consisting of First Avenue Management, the CAA agency, and business manager David Bolno.
