After all, if it’s not actually her naked body up there on the screen, why would she be so nervous about seeing it?: “I was completely watching [the movie] and having fun, and when the swimming pool scene was coming, I panicked,” Silverman told the press the morning after Take This Waltz ‘s Toronto Film Festival premiere. “Then, when it came, and I saw my full frontal, I had an actual heart attack — and I’m proud to have done it.” Score one for the true believers. These kids were having WAY too much fun. This could be the plot for a movie, “Fast and Furious Canada,” or maybe “Fast and Furious, the Young and the Rich.” Police in British Columbia say they impounded $2 million worth of high-end vehicles this week after witnesses reported the 13 cars racing on a metro Vancouver highway at speeds of 125 mph (200 kph). The high-end race cars included a Ferrari, Lamborghinis, Maseratis, an Audi, an Aston Martin, Nissans and a Mercedes, according to a Royal Canadian Mounted Police press release. Two of the racers would run side-by-side to block other traffic going in their direction on the highway while the others cars would take off in a race, witnesses told the RCMP. “These drivers seemed to be looking for attention. Well, they definitely got the attention of police,” Cpl. Holly Marks, spokesperson for the Lower Mainland District Regional Police Service, said in the press release. What the racers, who police said are all under age 21, won’t get is harsh punishment. “Each driver will be charged with Driving without Reasonable Consideration and receive a violation ticket with a specified penalty of $196. Additionally, these drivers will be responsible for all associated towing and storage charges,” according to the RCMP press release. The Police say they never actually caught the drivers so no additional charges can be brought. But the question that they never answered is, how the hell they impound the cars if the drivers were never caught? Source
Because of an early-morning badge snafu, I was unable to catch the press screening of Roman Polanski’s Carnage , the movie I was most looking forward to seeing here in Venice. Add that to the fact that I arrived here too late to see The Ides of March , and it’s a double bummer. But my consolation prize was not bad — at least in a so-bad-it’s-almost-good kind of way: I did get to see Madonna’s W.E. , which is in some ways just the kind of movie you’d expect from an artist who once, with a delightful lack of irony, declared herself a material girl.

By James Montgomery Britney Spears Photo: Getty Images I’m not sure how many times this has happened to you, but when you’re in the middle of recording voice-overs during the Video Music Awards and all of a sudden you get an email from the assistant of your bosses’ boss telling you that you have to interview Britney Spears in her dressing room in 10 minutes — man, that’s weird. Because it’s Britney Spears. One of the hugest pop stars on the planet, constant target of the tabloids, decided enigma. She’s not exactly forthcoming with the press (for reasons that are certainly understandable) and not particularly interested in sitting down for a chat — especially when said chat is supposed to take place in her dressing room, surrounded by her team of publicists, makeup artists and friends. Needless to say, the odds of the whole thing going down in a ball of flames are pretty high. And yet, there I was on Sunday night, winding my way through the backstage corridors of the Nokia Theatre, the VMAs literally happening all around me, on my way to meet Britney. Armed only with an email (and a rather paltry level of security clearance), I talked my way past the stone-faced security guards — who, it should be noted, didn’t seem to believe that I was about to interview Britney Spears either — found my way to her dressing-room door and awaited further instructions. As I stood there, my mind raced: What, exactly, was I going to ask her, anyway? And, perhaps more importantly, what is she really like? After a few minutes, the door swung open, one of her publicists poked his head out and told me, quite matter-of-factly, “Britney’s ready.” I entered the tiny dressing room, scanned the faces lining the walls (publicist one, publicist two, manager Larry Rudolph, makeup artist, sister Jamie Lynn) and suddenly came face to face with Britney herself, eyes wide and sparkling, head cocked slightly, big smile on her face. I noticed the tiny pair of red dice she has tattooed on her left wrist, the hem of her black dress, the way she crossed her ankles. And then, I noticed she was looking right at me. “Hi, I’m Britney,” she said. No kidding. I am happy to report that Britney Spears is a very nice person; she is funny and carries herself with a relaxed grace that belies her superstardom. We spoke about her VMA tribute — during which she spent much of the time praising others — and how, even after winning a boatload of awards, she’s still blown away each and every time her name is called. Shoot, we even laughed about Lady Gaga’s alter ego, Jo Calderone (“She’s definitely in character,” Brit laughed). In fact, the thing that struck me the most about her was her quick wit: She cracks jokes like they’re going out of style. And while I guess you could say that I learned an awful lot about Britney on Sunday night, the biggest lesson was probably this: Basically everything you think you know about her is wrong. It’s sort of a shame she doesn’t do more interviews, because, really, I think most folks would leave feeling the same way I do. Then again, I can understand why she doesn’t. It’s sort of an uphill battle at this point. Regardless, interviewing her was definitely a highlight, and not just because she’s press-shy. It most certainly ranks as my greatest VMA moment, even ahead of the pre-show I hosted live Sunday night. So the next time you get a panicked email and an invite to sit down with Britney, I highly recommend you respond immediately. It will definitely be worth your time. Prosecutors trying to convict Dr. Conrad Murray of involuntary manslaughter want to make sure the trial does not become about Michael Jackson’s personal life. In particular, they want the judge to disallow all testimony related to allegations of Michael Jackson molesting children, and to block a potentially key witness. Steve Robel, a key Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s investigator in MJ’s 2005 molestation trial, is on the witness list compiled by Dr. Conrad Murray’s team. Dr. Murray’s trial is scheduled to get underway next month . Prosecutors want all references to molestation barred from Murray’s trial, on grounds it has nothing to do with MJ’s death and would merely inflame the jury. Also, prosecutors have also asked the judge to block the testimony of doctors who treated Jackson but were not involved in his care at the time of his death. This is a major issue that could dramatically alter the case. Why? The defense will argue at least nine other doctors addicted MJ to meds – including Propofol – and are responsible for the condition Michael was in. Murray, therefore, cannot be held responsible for what happened. Judge Pastor has not ruled on the motions, but what he decides on that point could be critical in determining how Murray’s defense takes shape. Pastor has, however, determined that the Murray jury will NOT be sequestered during the trial, as he does not want jurors to feel like inmates. Pastor feels that even though Jackson’s death was incredibly high profile, measures will be in place to make sure the jury is not contaminated.
