Bristol Palin-Levi Johnston Engagement: Just For (Reality) Show?

Yesterday, we reported the joyous engagement of the previously-engaged, then estranged, then reconciled tandem from Alaska, Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston . It’s a wonderful thing, couples doing what it takes for love, for a child. But given who we’re talking about, there are cynics who suspect other motives at work. Seriously, when’s the reality show announcement? Next week? The week after? We stress again, this is just a rumor started by cynics. Yet it wouldn’t shock us. Think Bethenny Getting Married meets Northern Exposure meets the RNC! Gawker floats the following theory : “Within the next 4-6 weeks Palin’s PR people will releases news that Bristol and Levi will ‘star’ in a new reality show.” “All about young parenting. And yes, they will also work up to a wedding.” One they will remain abstinent prior to, of course. Because they’re like that. “This is part of the planned ‘story arc.’ Levi will be promoted as young, decent, salt of the earth guy. Bristol will be seen dealing with ‘challenges’ of young motherhood.” “Willow will be on a lot, maybe some Piper thrown in. They’ll attempt to boost rankings the first few episodes by having Sarah cameos, but the rest of the time will be a ‘conservative young marrieds who just happen to already have a baby’ theme.” Is such a scenario that crazy? Think about it. Levi’s on the hook for $1,700 a month in child support – or like $3,000 per month before taxes – a sizable sum even if he weren’t tied to the state of Alaska or lacking for a college degree. We’re just saying. The reality show would give him a salary, get the Palins get off his back, and get everybody on the same page as far as hyping the mythical exploits of Sarah Palin and her brood. Foolproof if you think about it. Reality show or not, will they last?

Coral Reefs More Diverse, and Fragile, Than Previously Thought

Even coral that looks the same, new research shows, may be part of a completely different species. Image credit: Wikimedia Commons Some types of coral are abundant across reefs—turning up in a wide range of depths. Researchers have long assumed that this demonstrated versatility of the species—something that could be useful when rebuilding reefs damaged by pollution, bleaching, and other climatic events. New research, however, has shown that these corals are not homogeneous. Instead, they consist of a variety of distinct and highly-specialized species—a finding that could have seriou… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Real ID Act of 2005 – Yesterday’s Law, Today’s Problem

By David P Shirk A third of the people seem to be indifferent to the laws and simply think of them as a mere annoyance. These people mostly accept the idea of laws as a necessary evil. Another third wholeheartedly support the laws, and constantly seek to make new ones to fit their idea of how the world should be. The last third are people who are sick of the restrictive laws as their daily lives continue to get more and more difficult to live in a legal manner. Depending on how observant and researched the people are typically determines which side they take. An example of this is found in an act of legislation called the REAL ID ACT of 2005. Originally passed through congress as HR 418, it never made it past the Committee on the Judiciary. So it was merely scaled down, placed into the more popular HR 1268 under division II, and viola – it became the law. Under Title I of the law, it removed exclusive power from the Attorney General in regards to granting asylum, and granted joint power to the Secretary of Homeland Securi……. http://www.peacefreedomprosperity.com/?p=3535 Image url: http://blog.case.edu/james.chang/2007/07/29/real_id_pic.jpg added by: shanklinmike

He explained to Rory Cellan-Jones the risks involved with the new technology including its effects on medical implants such as pacemakers. added by: Dagum

Donkey detonated on Gaza border

Animal dead, no human casualties; 200 kg of dynamite heaped on cart. A small Syrian-backed terrorist group in Gaza said its activists blew up a donkey cart laden with explosives close to the border with Israel on Tuesday, killing the animal but causing no human casualties. Abu Ghassan, spokesman for the terrorist group, said more than 200 kilograms of dynamite were heaped on the animal-drawn cart. He added that the explosives were detonated 60 meters from the concrete security barrier that separates the territory from Israel. The donkey was killed in the blast, but there were no reports of human casualties. Israeli troops routinely patrol the border, and impoverished Gazans often gather rubble in the area. The Israeli military confirmed the blast, but had no further comment. The IDF said Gaza terrorists also fired two mortar shells into Israel on Tuesday, which fell in the Netiv Ha'asara area without causing damage or casualties. Earlier this week, masked gunmen from an Islamist group torched a UN-run summer camp for children and teens in Gaza. The head of UNRWA in Gaza, John Ging, said the assailants tied up the guard, burned tents and vandalized bathrooms at the campgrounds. UN officials said the attackers left behind three bullets and a note threatening to kill Ging and others unless the UN cancels its activities for some 250,000 Gaza children. Two days before the incident, the previously unknown “The Free of the Homeland” group issued a statement criticizing the camp's organizer, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), for “teaching schoolgirls fitness, dancing and immorality.” added by: crystalman

Think Arizona’s laws are tough? Lets look at Mexico…

Perhaps we should adopt similar laws as to what's on the books in Mexico for legal/illegal immigration: – Illegal entry into the country is equivalent to a felony punishable by two years' imprisonment. Document fraud is subject to fine and imprisonment; so is alien marriage fraud. Evading deportation is a serious crime; illegal re-entry after deportation is punishable by ten years' imprisonment. Foreigners may be kicked out of the country without due process and the endless bites at the litigation apple that illegal aliens are afforded in our country (see, for example, President Obama's illegal alien aunt — a fugitive from deportation for eight years who is awaiting a second decision on her previously rejected asylum claim). – The Mexican government will bar foreigners if they upset “the equilibrium of the national demographics.” How's that for racial and ethnic profiling? – If outsiders do not enhance the country's “economic or national interests” or are “not found to be physically or mentally healthy,” they are not welcome. Neither are those who show “contempt against national sovereignty or security.” They must not be economic burdens on society and must have clean criminal histories. Those seeking to obtain Mexican citizenship must show a birth certificate, provide a bank statement proving economic independence, pass an exam and prove they can provide their own healthcare. – Law enforcement officials at all levels — by national mandate — must cooperate to enforce immigration laws, including illegal alien arrests and deportations. The Mexican military is also required to assist in immigration enforcement operations. Native-born Mexicans are empowered to make citizens' arrests of illegal aliens and turn them in to authorities. – Ready to show your papers? Mexico's National Catalog of Foreigners tracks all outside tourists and foreign nationals. A National Population Registry tracks and verifies the identity of every member of the population, who must carry a citizens' identity card. Visitors who do not possess proper documents and identification are subject to arrest as illegal aliens. http://www.onenewsnow.com/Perspectives/Default.aspx?id=992156 added by: occhipij
