Hate Crime: White Man In Maryland Allegedly Beaten And Robbed In Retaliation For Zimmerman Verdict “This Is For Trayvon!”

Ah boy, here we go… White Man Allegedly Beaten And Robbed In Retaliation For George Zimmerman Verdict Via NYDailyNews A white man was beaten and robbed by three black men in retaliation to the Geroge Zimmerman verdict, say investigators in the nation’s capital. The incident is being investigated as a possible hate crime. A Bethesda, Md., man was shoved to the ground on a tree-lined street of stately row houses in Washington’s Adams Morgan district early Saturday, police said. One of his three attackers screamed, “This is for Trayvon Martin” before they pushed and kicked him to the pavement and took his wallet and iPhone, investigators said. The man had facial cuts and other minor injuries, but refused medical treatment, police said. “There is no pattern in these types of crimes,” said police spokesman Araz Alali. “These attacks are outrageous; we are doing everything in our power to see that they certainly don’t occur. If they do occur, we are going to aggressively investigate them and bring people to justice.” The mugging took place two weeks after a Florida jury ruled that Zimmerman was not guilty of second-degree murder in the shooting death of 17-year-old Martin. Sadly enough, we knew this kind of thing had the potential to happen if a “not guilty” verdict came down. Come on people, attacking white people will not bring Trayvon back, and it damn sure won’t fix the problems that we are having with race relations in this country. Continue reading

Kate Middleton Post-Baby Body Media Coverage: Disrespectful to Women?

Is the media coverage of Kate Middleton’s post-pregnancy body, which became THE topic right after she gave birth to the Royal Baby , disrespectful to women? Since the moment she and Prince William presented Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge to the world, her figure became a talking point. Reactions to her appearance ranged from positive to negative to just plain curious. “Why Does Kate Middleton Still Have Her Baby Bump?” screamed one headline. “Kate Middleton’s royal baby post-bump is a boost of confidence for mums everywhere,” another said. “How can she look so pretty just after giving birth?” One fashion blogger wrote “in all honesty, the dress was not pleasing to the eye, neither was the stomach. I hope she gets her post-maternity bod soon.” Scores of Middleton-related search terms clogged the web, such as “diet,” “post baby bump,” “belly,” “stomach,” and “why does Kate Middleton still look pregnant.” Kate remains wildly popular, but could the whole thing signal that society’s obsession with her looks puts unrealistic stress on mothers and women? “The media’s neuroticism over Kate’s post-pregnant looks is brainwashing women,” human behavior expert Patrick Wanis told Fox News. How? He says that the intense coverage implies all women will be “judged and criticized unless they meet the new standard – unattainable perfection.” “The obsession with the perfect female body is spiraling out of control.” The same DAY she gave birth, a weight loss tabloid cover from OK! sparked outcry thanks to its “Kate’s Post-Baby Weight Loss Regime” headline. As for the medical reason her “bump” is still showing, experts say it takes around 10 days for a woman’s womb to contract back to its normal size. Many praised Kate for her “bravery” in challenging one of the taboos of pregnancy – the post-partum belly – and for not recoiling from the spotlight. Basically, she’s not image-obsessed and doesn’t care what people say, and certainly isn’t holding out for a huge tabloid photo spread a la Kim Kardashian . Just the same, when it comes to the media, critics say it’s all too much. “The focus should be on how she feels as a mother and the love and nurturing she will express as well as the bond between her and her newborn,” Wanis said. “Rather than whether or not she still looks hot. And hot for whom?”

Kate Middleton Weight Loss Tabloid Cover: Too Soon?

A tabloid is under scrutiny for a cover story about Kate Middleton’s alleged post-baby weight loss regime … released the same day she gave birth. The UK version of OK! came out Monday with a photo of the new royal mom on the cover and the headline “Kate’s Post-Baby Weight Loss Regime.” Promoting an interview with someone described as her trainer, the story claims Kate Middleton is “super fit … her stomach will shrink straight back.” Many people felt that the story was a little too soon (to say the least) and puts pressure on new moms to instantly lose the baby weight they put on. The cover quickly sparked a Twitter backlash, including from TV and radio presenter Katy Hill, who tweeted a photo of her own post-baby body. “I think all mums should boycott @OK_Magazine for this cover ONE DAY after Kate Middleton has given birth. REALLY? #RoyalBaby,” Hill tweeted. “New Mums. If the @OK_Magazine #Kate cover has made you feel bad, here’s me 2 months post baby. YOU MADE A HUMAN! x,” she added. Tamsin Kelly, editor of Parentdish, said: “For this magazine to be in UK shops on the very same day Kate left hospital with her baby is contemptible.” “Women who do get back in shape fast may have an entourage of trainers, nutrition experts and most importantly, someone to care for their baby.” The celebrity gossip publication responded in a statement, claiming it did not intend to offend anyone, but stopping short of issuing an apology. “Kate is one of the great beauties of our age and readers love her,” a spokeswoman for Northern & Shell, the parent company of OK! said. “Like the rest of the world, we were very moved by her radiance as she and Prince William introduced the Prince of Cambridge to the world.” “We would not dream of being at all critical of her appearance.” “If that was misunderstood on our cover it was not intended.” Sure thing, OK! Your heartfelt intentions will never again be questioned. On the bright side, nothing can take away from the grace and glow Kate while providing the world with the first Royal Baby photos Tuesday. We heart her.

Kris Humphries to Portray Himself on The Mindy Project

Move over, Kim Kardashian . Your ex is also about to make a splash on the small screen. Only instead of getting naked and taking it from Ray J, Kris Humphries will be making a guest-starring appearance on an episode of The Mindy Project Season 2. According to TV Guide, the Boston Celtics power forward will play himself. It’s unclear what brings The Hump into Mindy’s world, although the sitcom’s title character does often reference television and pop culture. Last year, fellow NBA players Amar’e Stoudemire and Danny Granger also stopped by the series, showing up at a club Mindy and her colleagues frequented. This gig will mark Humphries’ first acting role, though many believe he was merely reading from a script every time he appeared on camera during his courtship of Kim. Kardashian, meanwhile, has appeared on Drop Dead Diva and How I Met Your Mother and also helps anchor the legendary Ray J sex tape .

Kate Middleton Gives Birth to Royal Baby: It’s a BOY!

The royal baby is here! The royal baby is here! After many weeks of keeping the masses waiting on pins and needles and keeping us guessing as to her due date, Kate Middleton has given birth. She and Prince William have welcomed a baby boy! A royal aide just announced the joyful news moments ago with a proclamation signed by the doctors who delivered the little HRH Prince of Cambridge! Well, not SO little. His weight (8 pounds, 6 ounces) and the time of its birth (4:24 p.m.) were confirmed, along with the gender, via press release. An official gun salute in London’s Hyde Park is expected shortly, and the bells of St Paul’s Cathedral are already ringing in honor of the future King. Ever since Kate went into labor early Monday morning, Royal Baby Watch 2013 reached a fever pitch outside London’s St. Mary’s Hospital and worldwide. Now that it’s over, it’s finally cause for celebration. Kate Middleton and Prince William did not find out the gender beforehand, setting off a national guessing game (and online betting frenzy) for months. They kept all facets of her pregnancy as private and low-key as possible. When Kate and William did finally arrive at the hospital this morning, they did it their way, with no fanfare, no sirens and not even a police escort. Just a dark Range Rover and a shiny new Audi nosing their way calmly through the traffic-free streets of London after dawn, cagily evading the media. William has been by his wife’s side all week as they moved from Kate’s parents house to Kensington Palace, just a mile from the hospital, last weekend. Queen Elizabeth II now has three living heirs: Prince Charles, her eldest son, William, his eldest son, and the first-born son of William and Kate. And, Her Majesty gets to go on holiday without missing this now. Phew! Charles said: “Both my wife and I are overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandchild. It is an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine.” “We are so thrilled for them on the birth of their baby boy,” he adds. “We are eagerly looking forward to seeing the baby in the near future.” The official confirmation notice says very little, only that Kate was “safely delivered of a son” and she and the baby are doing well. Check it out: The succession rules were recently changed so that for the first time ever, Will and Kate’s first baby would become the heir(ess), regardless of gender. That was cool, but in the end, the traditionalists got their wish. Our heartfelt congratulations to Kate, William, their families and everyone in the UK on the most celebrated moment since Andy Murray won Wimbledon ! Just kidding. Although that was pretty cool to see, too. It is now hoped that the boy’s name might be announced as soon as tomorrow. The oddsmakers’ favorite is George … what do you think they should name him?   Albert Arthur Frederick George James Philip Edward Henry Something else (list in comments) View Poll »

Royal Baby Watch: Who Will Be the First to Know?

As the Royal Baby Watch enters its final hours with Kate Middleton in labor , onlookers across the world are wondering how they will know when the child is born. Assuming all goes according to plan with the delivery, Queen Elizabeth II will be the first person to receive word that the royal heir has been born. Unless she’s asleep, in which case no one will find out until she awakes. Pround papa Prince William will call his 87-year-old grandmother on an encrypted phone to let her know that Kate Middleton has given birth, reports say. But if the birth is in the middle of the night, he will not wake her up. Kate has been in labor since early Monday at St. Mary’s Hospital in London. Experts estimate that first-time mothers are generally in labor 12-24 hours. Queen Elizabeth, who returned to Buckingham Palace today from Windsor Castle where she usually spends weekends, says she’s quite anxious for it to arrive . Mostly because it’s exciting stuff, but a little bit because she’s going on her annual vacation next week to her Balmoral estate in Scotland. Naturally. Royal Baby Watch So how will mere mortals find out about the royal baby’s birth? Not from celebrity gossip sites breaking the news. If it happens in the next few hours and it’s still daylight, a royal courier will emerge from the hospital. With a police escort, the courier will head to Buckingham Palace to post a notice of the baby’s gender, size and weight on an easel at the palace front gates. If the birth comes at night, this will wait until morning. Long story short … there is no royal baby news until there’s a baby, at which point the royals themselves will break the news, as the BBC notes above. Still, pretty exciting stuff though, you’ve gotta admit! What do you think Kate Middleton is having?   Boy! Girl! View Poll »
