Jo Gilchrist, stricken by an infection contracted from a makeup brush, of all things, is reportedly paralyzed and told she may never walk again as a result. The Australian mother, 27, began feeling pain in her back in February, and soon lost all feeling in her lower body and legs and had to undergo emergency surgery. Doctors found that the partial paralysis was caused by a type of staph infection that is resistant to drugs, most likely contracted from the brush she borrowed. Gilchrist’s friend reportedly had a staph infection on her face, and it spread. “It started as a dull ache and I thought it was my bad posture,” Jo said. “But it got worse and worse and got to the point I had to call one of those doctors who come to you because I couldn’t get out of bed,” she recalled. “I rate the pain worse than childbirth; I literally thought I was going to die.” According to CDC, research about 30 percent of people with staph infections carry it in their noses, with most of these cases not resulting in infection. However, those that do cause infection can be extremely serious, even fatal. Doctors originally said Gilchrist might never walk again, however, she has been making incredible strides with physical therapy and intensive treatment. Last week, she posted a Facebook video of herself standing up and taking a couple of steps. Suffice it to say, she’s not giving up and going all out. “It’s been the hardest struggle I’ve ever faced” she wrote. “I have fought with everything I have to lead to this.” Even harder than the effort her recovery takes is being apart from son Tommy, 2, while she receives treatment at the Princess Alexandra Hospital Home. “I have pictures of him and his drawings all over the walls and I look at them every day,” she said, and holds out hope that she can return to normal someday. Father And Seven Children Pass Away In Carbon Monoxide Leak Truly sad story. A Maryland father attempting to provide heat for his family after the electricity in their home had been shut off passed away along with all seven of his children after the in-home generator he was using malfunctioned, sending fatal carbon monoxide fumes coursing through the house. Via DailyMail : A Maryland father and his seven children were discovered dead Monday afternoon from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by a generator they were using after the power company had cut off their electricity, according to relatives. The tragic incident took place in Princess Anne – a community of 3,260 in Somerset County, Maryland. Princess Anne police stated in a press release to Daily Mail Online that no foul play was suspected in the deaths. Officers who responded to the home in the 30500 block of Antioch Avenue entered the residence and found the eight family members dead inside. Bonnie and Lloyd Edwards, encountered outside the home by a reporter from The Associated Press, identified themselves as the mother and stepfather of Rodney Todd, 36, whom they identified as the adult who died. They said Todd had seven children, including five girls and two boys. Lloyd Edwards revealed that Delmarva Power had cut off the electricity to the house because of an outstanding bill. Edwards said, ‘to keep his seven children warm, [Todd] bought a generator. It went out and the carbon monoxide consumed them.’ Truly tragic story. Facial recognition has been utilized before in advertising, but in this case, state of the art technology does more than target people with the right products. A London advertising and marketing agency, WCRS, created a cutting edge billboard of a battered woman that “heals” as more people look at her. The tagline, appropriately: “Look at me.” Bruised Woman on Billboard Heals as Passersby Look at Her To coincide with International Women’s Day March 8, WCRS teamed up with Women’s Aid and Ocean Outdoor to create the cool digital billboard. Even cooler is the cause, ending domestic violence by bringing awareness to its victims, many of whom feel they can’t speak out or elect not to. The facial recognition technology amazingly recognizes when people are paying attention to the image of the woman, whose face changes as they do. As more passersby look at the ad , her bruises and cuts heal faster, perfectly illustrating the benefit of not turning a blind eye to this ongoing problem. The campaign is gaining global attention this week, although it already won an Interactive Award in the 2014 Art of Outdoor competition with a different model. Look at the video above. It’s awesome. Fox News Argues Frozen is Sexist “From what we’ve seen, it looks like Frozen depicts men as evil and cold and bumblers,” Doocy said to Concerned Women for America president Penny Nance. “What kind of message does that send?” Nance, a Christian women’s advocacy group leader, agreed with Doocy’s sentiments. “It’s not just Disney,” Nance said. “Hollywood in general has often sent a message that men are superfluous, that they’re stupid, that they’re in the way and if they contribute anything to the family, it’s a paycheck. And that is not true, and it is not good social science.” It’s about time someone focused on the plight of men in this country, don’t you think?!? Wale On Portrayals Of Black Women In Media Wale says he is weary of how Black women’s bodies have been reduced to azz-shots and weaves through the media and the popularization of social media. The rapper recently blogged about his frustrations, longing for days long gone when Black women could be sexy without taking their clothes off. As told to NecoleBitchie : I have honestly been sick and tired of our representation in the entertainment world. I feel like they curve “us” as a whole, then every blue moon they allow a pass for a Black person and we’re supposed to throw a party for it. My question is: What happened to Hollywood? I remember Lisa Bonet and a plethora of other beautiful Black women on “Different World.” I remember princess Jada [Pinkett]. I used to daydream about her. I was only in elementary school but when I first saw Jada I was in love. Nothing about this princess screamed, “Sex!” My mind was allowed to play with the idea of what lies under this fully clothed “around the way” girl. True, perhaps a child shouldn’t have such fantasies but that’s besides the point. Black women were represented in such a way that they were not hyper-sexualized objects created by doctors with the sole intent to take pictures, just to add on even more enhancements- be it Photoshop or an abundance of makeup with a sprinkle of good lighting. When Jeremih and I did a video for my single,”The Body,” it hurt my soul coming to the realization that there is hardly any positivity in Black Hollywood. Years ago I wanted to do a short movie for a single, with legendary director John Singleton. I’m not sure if he didn’t believe in me or if he plain old didn’t have the time to do it, but it never happened. Interesting… The rapper says his latest video for his single “The Body” was his attempt at counteracting some of the negative portrayals out there and to make brothers think of ladies a little differently than they do through IG filters. However, even if we were to do something that represented our culture, where would we start? Casting calls via Instagram? Today’s directors head straight to Instagram for their next star, with casting more or less being determined by how many “likes” a woman receives on the regular. “The Body,” was an attempt to get us, as Black people, headed in a more elevated direction. Mariah [the model I used in the video] kind of epitomized what I felt a normal beautiful “round the way” girl looked like. These days, we spend so much time focusing on “that assssss, ” we forget how much of love’s chemistry is contingent to a beautiful face and genuine personality. Personalities that used to cut through our television screens when Jada would flex that B’more attitude in a scene. The authenticity back when there was no desire to portray women as just an over-sexualized, clay-like-body to Instagram-obsessed people! Yes, I’m aware that my latest single is called “The Body.” I also am aware we that barely showed the body… Maybe, just maybe, I thought I could trick these dudes into looking a little deeper. And if only for one video, bring back the glory days of a more genuinely prestigious, “Black Hollywood.” Illuminate. Nice! What do you think of what Wale has to say?

WTF?! Ray J Makes Emergency 911 Call To Prevent Princess Love Murder-Suicide According to TMZ reports : Ray J was afraid his girlfriend was going to pull a murder-suicide — offing him and then herself — just days after rapper Earl Hayes did the same … at least according to his 911 call that day. TMZ broke the story … Ray J freaked last month when he broke up with Princess Love, and he says she threatened to kill herself with a gun. We’ve obtained the 911 call he made … begging the dispatcher to send police to check on Princess. He repeatedly mentioned the Hayes murder-suicide — and that he attempted, but failed, to take Love’s gun.
