Poor Little Rich Boy: NYC Hedge Fund Heir Shoots & Kills Father Over Allowance Cut

SMH!! Manhattan Man Murders Father Over Lowered Allowance A spoiled NYC heir has murdered his father inside his parents’ Manhattan home…all in anger over his weekly allowance being lowered to $300.00. Via NYDN : A wealthy hedge-fund chief was gunned down by his adult son after he threatened to cut his allowance by a $100 a week and stop paying his steep rent, cops said Monday. Spoiled manchild Thomas Gilbert Jr., 30, flew into a murderous rage when he confronted his fed-up dad, Thomas Gilbert Sr., 70, over the downsizing of financial support, police said. “He was on a stipend from the family. Looks like he was in debt,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said of the accused killer. The freeloading son, a Princeton grad, shot his father once in the head with a .40-caliber Glock 22 handgun Sunday afternoon inside is parents’ multimillion-dollar Beekman Place apartment, police said. He then callously staged the murder scene to appear as if it was a suicide, placing the gun on his father’s chest and putting the dead man’s left hand over it, Boyce said. Gilberts parents recently told him they were cutting his $400 a week allowance by $100, a police source said. His parents also informed him they would no longer pay the rent on his apartment in a Chelsea building, where rents average $3,100 a month, the source said. As it turns out, this may not have been the first murderous tantrum the “spoiled manchild” threw in recent months. As news of the murder broke, neighbors began to suspect that Gilbert was responsible for a mysterious fire in the Hamptons a few months back. Via MailOnline : Last September 18, Gilbert was arrested for violating an order of protection three days after a Hamptons family home burned to the ground in a case of suspect arson. Multiple acquaintances of Gilbert Jr, repeated the rumor they had heard that the Princeton grad and Deerfield alumnus was a focus of suspicion when the house burned down. However, police have never identified Gilbert Jr. as a suspect nor has he been charged in the fire. In the early hours of September 15 this year, a blaze destroyed the beautiful Hamptons home owned by retired investment banker Peter L. Smith. According to sources, Peter Smith reportedly filed a restraining order against Gilbert Jr. this summer after an incident near his Williamsburg, Brooklyn home. SMH! So every time someone pisses this rich brat off, he has to burn some isht down or shoot somebody up?! It’ll be interesting to see what kind of time he gets now that his wealthy father isn’t there to save the day… Jefferson Siegel / NYDN

REVIEW: Tina Fey’s Class Clown Act Can’t Save C-Level ‘Admission’

Though smarter than your average dramedy, Paul Weitz’s  forced Admission faces some major identity issues. Tina Fey  plays a discombobulated Princeton admissions officer who must confront the limits of her morals when she learns that a potential Princeton applicant might be the son she gave up for adoption. What appears on paper to be an ideal three-dimensional, morally complex role for the quick-witted comedienne backfires in practice, relying on Fey to be funny in a movie that works better serious. Despite offering consolation to the world’s many Ivy League rejects that the gatekeepers sometimes make mistakes, low entrance levels await. Clearly, what Weitz wanted was to recapture some of Fey’s Baby Mama mojo (it earned a surprise $60 million, after all), relying on the actress to bring the same vulnerable uncertainty to another harried working-woman role. But that film was conceived as a traditional laffer, whereas Admission is based on Jean Hanff Korelitz’s more nuanced novel, in which Fey’s seemingly straightlaced character is thrown for a loop by a highly unusual applicant. While the book treats this wrinkle as its big surprise, the more plot-driven adaptation serves it up as a central concept, positioning Fey’s Portia Nathan as an increasingly screwball character struggling (and mostly failing) to maintain her professional ethics amid a messy personal crisis. Through a series of clunky, on-the-nose character-development scenes, the pic establishes Portia’s life — or, more accurately, her current state of denial: She’s fallen into a predictable routine with her tweedy lit-professor b.f. ( Michael Sheen ), her fastidiously clean workspace and her general intolerance of kids. Instead of indulging auds’ natural curiosity with a look inside the closed-door world of college admissions, the pic leaves Fey and her co-stars to play dress-up in a wood-paneled office where Wallace Shawn amiably poses as the dean of admissions and everybody carries around orange folders like so many hyper-efficient Oompa Loompas. The impression essentially favors Princeton as it reveals the fair, yet relatively inflexible process by which Portia and rival Corinne (Gloria Reuben) evaluate high school seniors’ essays and extracurriculars. Each folder conjures a fresh, optimistic-looking teen at the edge of the reader’s desk, the majority of whom then plummet through an invisible trapdoor after failing to meet the high threshold. With Portia and Corinne competing for a promotion, Portia throws herself into her usual visits to prospective students, giving the same canned speech at every stop until she arrives at New Quest, a newly accredited — and highly experimental — school overseen by fellow Dartmouth grad John Pressman ( Paul Rudd ). Implausibly, John remembers the day and hour Portia gave her baby up for adoption and has somehow managed to match it to his star pupil, a freakishly smart but terribly awkward teen named Jeremiah (Nat Wolff). But Pressman’s timing in revealing the information couldn’t be worse: Not only is this a sensitive time at work, but Portia’s b.f. is searching for an opportunity to break things off, and her long-frazzled relationship with her mother ( Lily Tomlin ) is coming to a boil, all of which drives Portia to behave as only movie characters do, sobbing, smooching and puking at the most inopportune moments. Other New Quest students question the value of what they see as the sexist, racist, homophobic institution Portia represents, but Jeremiah wants to attend Princeton. Problem is, he lacks the grades to get in. Watching the final admissions process, one wants to believe the officers become this invested in everyone they consider. And yet Portia goes to extremes to boost Jeremiah’s chances, manipulating co-workers and even breaking in to alter his file. The comedy feels forced as Fey works overtime to insert unnecessary zingers at the tail of every scene. If the cast weren’t so endearing, her actions could easily sour an audience on the whole experience, and Admission digs itself a hole only an ensemble this appealing can escape. Tomlin in particular enlivens her limited screentime as an irrepressible free spirit — a woman who truly understands the meaning of acceptance. Follow Movieline on  Twitter .

Steven Tyler To Release Tell-All Autobiography In May

‘Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?’ is Aerosmith frontman/’Idol’ judge’s second memoir. By Gil Kaufman Steven Tyler Photo: Tony Duran / FOX Some rock-and-roll lives are so epic that they require more than one official telling. That’s clearly the case with colorful Aerosmith frontman and “American Idol” judge Steven Tyler , who is preparing to release his second memoir, “Does the Noise in My Head Bother You,” on May 3. According to the book’s publisher, HarperCollins, the long-in-the-works book promises to share “the unbridled truth, the in-your-face, up-close and prodigious tale of Steven Tyler straight from the horse’s lips … All the unexpurgated, brain-jangling tales of debauchery, sex & drugs, transcendence & chemical dependence you will ever want to hear.” Tyler (born Steven Victor Tallarico), 63, wrote about his wild life in 1997’s Aerosmith autobiography “Walk This Way,” but with his higher profile on “Idol,” now seems like the time to let his younger fans get a window into his 40-plus years of rock-and-roll high life. “I’ve been mythicized, Mick-icized, eulogized and fooligized, I’ve been Cole-Portered and farmer’s-daughtered, I’ve been Led Zepped and 12-stepped,” Tyler explains in promotional materials in his classic hoodoo jive talk about his colorful past. “I’m a rhyming fool and so cool that me, Fritz the Cat, and Mohair Sam are the baddest cats that am. I have so many outrageous stories, too many, and I’m gonna tell ’em all.” He’s added plenty of new drama since the last book, including a very public feud with his longtime bandmates , an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a few stage falls, a relapse, a split with his second wife and the death of his first wife, a battle with hepatitis C and throat surgery, and a triumphant return to the spotlight on “Idol.” It was unknown at press time, though, if the book will contain much material on his “Idol” gig. “Tyler tells what it’s like to be a living legend and the frontman of one of the world’s most revered and infamous bands — the debauchery, the money, the notoriety, the fights, the motels and hotels, the elevators, limos, buses and jets, the rehab,” reads the book description. “He reveals the spiritual side that ‘gets lost behind the stereotype of the Sex Guy, the Drug Guy, the Demon of Screamin’, the Terror of the Tropicana.’ And he talks about his epic romantic life and his relationship with his four children.” Are you excited for Steven Tyler’s book? Mindless Behavior Call Meeting Janet Jackson ‘Heaven’

Roc Royal, Ray Ray, Princeton and Prodigy open Number Ones Tour. By Vaughn Schoonmaker Mindless Behavior Photo: Johnny Nunez/ Getty Images In the age of Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Willow Smith and the cast of “Glee,” teen group sensations have slid off the radar after the boy band and girl group hurricane of the late ’90s and early 2000s. Mindless Behavior are here to change that. Filling the hot slot of Janet Jackson’s opening act, Mindless Behavior are currently traveling the country for her Number Ones Tour. MTV News caught up with Roc Royal, Ray Ray, Princeton and Prodigy in their dressing room at the legendary Radio City Music Hall in New York City to find out what it means to be “mindless,” what it’s like opening for Janet and what we can expect from the 13-year-olds as they strive to headline their own tour someday soon. “Two years ago, we all auditioned for the group,” Princeton explained from behind his large designer sunglasses. “Our managers took us to Interscope, and they signed us to Streamline Records. And then, after that, we started working on our album, #1 Girl .” Mindless Behavior’s yet-to-be-released debut album will include featured artists Ciara, Lil Twist and Tyga. Regarding the band’s name, Princeton explained, “Mindless Behavior is our movement that we want everybody to join.” “Being mindless is having confidence and being yourself,” Ray Ray added. The boys intend for their album to find mass appeal. “Our music is very R&B and pop,” Princeton described. “When you listen to our first album … there are a lot of songs that adults and kids can relate to.” As far as subject matter, Ray Ray noted, “All of our songs talk about girls. We love the ladies.” With inspirations including Diddy, Eminem, Michael Jackson, Kanye West and Usher, the boys of Mindless Behavior bring wild synchronized dance moves, some high notes and some serious rapping to the stage. “When our manager told us that we were going to be on tour with Janet Jackson, we couldn’t believe it!” Ray Ray gushed. “The first time I met Janet, I was stuck. I couldn’t move.” Princeton recounted, “I kept telling them, ‘Is it just me, or is the room warm?’ I think it was just me because I was so nervous.” “When we walked in her room, it felt like we were in heaven,” Roc Royal remembered. Prodigy was tickled by the experience: “She’s really relaxed and quiet, and she looks gorgeous.” Janet even offered the young hip-hop artists a bit of advice: “She said to keep doing what we do and we’re very talented,” Princeton said, beaming. “Coming from Janet, that was big.” The boys said they have felt very welcome on Janet’s stage thus far on the tour. “Janet fans are amazing!” Roc Royal said. “There’s not one person in the crowd that’s sitting down or looking away or texting or doing something else,” Princeton added. “They’re always looking at us.” The fact that Janet was the headliner didn’t stop dozens of Mindless fans from waiting outside of Radio City on the three nights of performances, screaming toward all windows in sight with the hope that the boys were in one of them. “Every time we’re in New York, they’re outside waiting,” Princeton said, gesturing toward the nearby open window through which screams repeatedly traveled. “They inspire us to do better onstage,” Roc Royal noted. “And they like to give us gifts!” Ray Ray said, referring to the mountains of merchandise from the M&M Store piled around the dressing room. The boys of Mindless Behavior hope to treat their fans with a full headlining tour of their own sometime soon. “When we headline our first tour, it’s going to be something that people have not seen before,” Princeton promised. “It’s going to be something that the fans love,” added Prodigy. Roc Royal exclaimed: “Everything’s going to be mindless!” Are you a Mindless Behavior fan? Let us know in the comments below! Related Videos Opening Act: Artists To Look Out For

Mindless Behavior Say Touring With Justin Bieber Was ‘Crazy’

‘Bieber, he’s a great dude. He gave us advice backstage,’ bandmember Roc Royal tells MTV News. By Mawuse Ziegbe Mindless Behavior Photo: MTV News According to Mindless Behavior , touring with Justin Bieber is a rowdy experience. The rising quartet, which includes 13- and 14-year-old Philadelphia and Los Angeles natives Prodigy, Roc Royal, Princeton and Ray Ray, hit the road with Justin Bieber in December. When they stopped by the MTV News offices on Friday, they dished that opening up for the teen superstar meant rocking the stage for thousands while grappling with the Biebs’ hard-core fanbase. “It was crazy,” plaited singer Ray Ray admitted. “He has a lot of fans.” Fellow Mindless singer Princeton — who fans may remember as that cute krumpin’ kid from Gym Class Heroes’ 2006 video for “Cupid’s Chokehold/ Breakfast in America” — added that in addition to dodging legions of Beliebers, the boys had to bring it in massive arenas. “Every night, 15,000 fans,” the curly-haired crooner said, adding that the teen crew used the adrenaline to pump up their performances. “It made us nervous, but the minute we hit that stage — and the stage is big, by the way, like really big — but the minute we hit that stage the nerves just turned into great energy.” Getting face time with concertgoers also helped to ease their nerves. “Before the show we always did meet-and-greets, so the fans were really nice and very supportive,” Princeton explained. With their peppy text-friendly jam “My Girl” gaining traction and their status as budding heartthrobs blossoming, the Mindless fellas got some tips from Bieber on how to handle their growing fame. Rapper Roc Royal said the “Baby” singer was really cool about doling out pop-star guidance. “Bieber, he’s a great dude. He gave us advice backstage. He’s nice,” Roc said. “He told us don’t be nervous because it’s just fans, and you love it.” Roc added that Bieber was always down for a laugh — even if it came at the expense of the Mindless guys’ eardrums. “[Our] favorite moments [were] when Bieber came into our room and we start playing,” he smiled, recalling an instance in which the pop megastar barged into their rooms blasting an ear-shattering horn. “Like, he starts blowing the whistles in our rooms. [It’s] like, ‘Aw, man stop!’ “He came in on a Segway, and he was like [makes horn sound]. We were like, ‘Ah!’ ” Roc continued. “Definitely those moments when we were backstage and we were in our sweats just having fun.” Pop-star mentorship aside, the boys insist that Bieber isn’t going to get away with the reckless whistle-blowing. Ray Ray joked that the guys might just turn the intense energy of Bieber’s fans against him. “We gonna put fans backstage so when he comes he gets attacked,” he laughed. Princeton had another idea: “Take his Segway!” he said, pretending to jack Justin’s wheels, exclaiming, ” ‘What up, Biebs? Vrooom!’ ” Did you see Mindless Behavior on tour with Justin Bieber?
