T-Pain Says Lil Wayne’s Jail Time Put T-Wayne Album On Hold

‘We just gonna wait until he gets out to really get in on that,’ he tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid T-Wayne Photo: Young Money The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Despite naysayers’ talk that the duet album between T-Pain and Lil Wayne will never happen, Mr. Pain says the project is very much still alive, just on hold. “The T-Wayne album, we’re actually gonna wait until he gets out,” Pain said about Weezy’s jail time . “He has so much going on. He has Rebirth out right now. I don’t wanna interrupt that. We just gonna wait until he gets out to really get in on that. We recorded a bunch of songs. But, right now, it’s time for him and his personal sh–. We definitely got an album’s worth of material, but it’s only an album’s worth. It’s nothing to pick from. We just got an album. We can put out whatever we feel like and say, ‘Hey, this is T-Wayne’s album,’ or we can actually try to make it good. Like we’re actually trying to make an album and say, ‘This is the good T-Wayne album.’ Rather than just record 12 songs and say, ‘Here you go, mutha—-as! I know you want it. You gonna buy it anyway, just ’cause you think it’s good.’ ” Pain, who always has a joke up his sleeve or in his top hat, had a lighthearted response when asked what he thought of his supergroup teammate having to go to prison. “It happens, man,” the singer said. “People go to jail. That’s something he’s gotta go through. I’m happy it’s not f—ing 10 years. That’s just something that’s going on. I know his commissary [prison store] is ridiculous. He’s got so much money in his commissary. You think Baby is gonna let him sit up in there and eat Doritos? Wayne got [his food] coming with steaks. … I know what’s going on there. “Young Money is still there also. He’s in the studio 24/7,” Pain added. “It’s gonna be like Tupac. You still gonna get 1,000 songs from Wayne. You ain’t gonna miss nothing. It’s gonna be like he never went to jail. I’m pretty sure they’re gonna put out a gang of songs. I’m pretty sure they’re gonna do a ‘Free Lil Wayne’ campaign. That’s how it goes.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . Ludacris Hopes Battle Of The Sexes Makes ‘Female Voices’ Heard

‘It’s such a male-dominated industry that I feel like females need more of a voice,’ Atlanta MC says. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway NEW YORK — According to Ludacris , there’s just too much testosterone in hip-hop. So with his forthcoming Battle of the Sexes album, the Atlanta rapper decided to inject what he felt was a much-needed dose of femininity to the discussion. “It’s such a male-dominated industry that I feel like females need more of a voice, so we wanted to hear more of what the hell they had to say,” Luda told MTV News about the album concept. “With that being said, I went out and got women from the past, the present and the future — everyone from Lil Kim, Eve, Trina, Nicki Minaj. I got records where I’m talking about women … and where women are talking back to me.” Originally, the project was slated feature Ludacris and his former Disturbing Tha Peace first lady Shawnna. The rapper wanted to model the album after collaborative LPs Jay-Z and Foxy Brown and the Notorious B.I.G. and Lil Kim once promised but never delivered. With Shawnna’s departure from the DTP camp, however, Luda decided to revamp Sexes into an expanded effort. Monica and Crime Mob’s Diamond are among the other females set to participate; Ne-Yo, Trey Songz, Flo Rida and Gucci Mane are also featured on the album. Ludacris said once he put the call out to the ladies to join in on the project, the responses were overwhelming. “They were loving it,” he said. “It was even better when we shot the ‘My Chick Bad’ video and the remix. I had all those women on the same set. It was history. They love the fact that someone is trying to get the female voice out there more.” The Battle of the Sexes tracklisting, according to Def Jam: 1. Intro 2. How Low 3. My Chick Bad (featuring Nicki Minaj) 4. Everybody Drunk (featuring Lil Scrappy) 5. I Do It All Night 6. Sex Room (featuring Trey Songz) 7. I Know You Got a Man (featuring Flo Rida) 8. Hey Ho (featuring Lil Kim and Lil Fate) 9. Party No Mo’ (featuring Gucci Mane) 10. B.O.T.S. Radio (featuring I-20) 11. Can’t Live With You (featuring Monica) 12. Feelin’ So Sexy 13. The Fall of the House of Murdoch [Decline]

Rupert Murdoch —the dashing, daring, fearsome and fearless press baron, the mogul among moguls—will will celebrate his 79th birthday next month. As he approaches his final years at the helm of his empire, he finds it crumbling around him. Sure, News Corp. reported a better-than-expected $250 million profit last quarter on the strength of Fox News and Avatar , and all indications are that it has weathered the recession intact. But Murdoch’s lifelong crusade has always been about more than just money—it’s been about acquiring power, routing enemies, and the glorification of his own ego. And he has always accomplished those goals surrounded by a merry gang of corporate bandits, happily slitting throats and cutting deals with a vicious and entrepreneurial esprit de corps traceable to Murdoch’s own tyrannical mien. It was an extraordinarily well-run company, guided by an iron fist. No more. “It’s terrible now,” a News Corp. insider tells Gawker, relating the slow, Shakespearian devolution of Murdoch’s fierce machinery into turmoil, factionalism, and infighting. The old man, nearing the end of his reign, no longer inspires enough fear or loyalty within his own ranks to keep the jostling for power beneath the surface, and a Lord of the Flies ugliness abounds. Roger Ailes has transformed Fox News into a highly profitable rogue political operation, jeopardizing Murdoch’s most prized asset—his access to political power—with an unending stream of volatile rhetoric. His longtime consigliere and liaison to the Democratic power structure, Gary Ginsberg, decamped last year and just joined Time Warner. Matthew Freud, his own son-in-law, is lobbing bombs at Ailes in the pages of the New York Times . And Murdoch himself, though spry by any standards for a 78-year-old, is showing his age: His leadership has become unfocused, insiders say, and he’s made a bizarre string of public statements, from agreeing with Glenn Beck that Barack Obama is a racist to claiming he never said that a few days later to blaming New York’s political woes on Gov. David Paterson’s blindness . The internal turmoil has led the News Corp. insider to commit the unforgivable sin of speaking of Murdoch in the past tense: “He had a good run.” The growing factionalism within News Corp.’s ranks as Murdoch nears the end of his days is likely to be the topic of a New York magazine story on the company, by reporter Gabriel Sherman, that is set to run next week. Sherman’s nosing around has sparked considerable chatter in Murdoch-land, and insiders are said to fear that it may begin to shake loose some of the crumbling edifice of Murdoch’s empire. If Murdoch were to stop for a moment when he celebrates his birthday next month and, King Lear-like, survey his kingdom, here is what he would see: The Hapless Heir The battle for who will replace Murdoch at the helm seems to have come down to a choice of his son James or anybody else. Lachlan Murdoch has been exiled to Australia and recently sold off the bulk of his personal shares in his father’s company to fund his own acquisitions. Murdoch’s daughter Elizabeth seems unwilling to give up Shine, her television production company, and is an unlikely choice. That leaves James, whose anal-retentive management style is said to be reviled by many News Corp. regulars. Where Rupert and his old number two Peter Chernin—whose conflicts with James led to his departure last year—were freewheeling and tended to trust their deputies, James is controlling and obsessed with memos and progress reports. As he inserts himself into News Corp.’s operations, he’s undermining the buccaneering culture his father encouraged. “With all the memos and structure, it’s almost more like GE than News Corp. now,” says one insider. James’ chief flunky is Matthew Anderson , the overly aggressive and scheming flack that James brought on board in the wake of Chernin’s departure to help grease the skids for his ascension, who demands that talking points and briefings be prepared for his boss to engage in the most casual conversations. The Meddling Wife To mix Shakespearean metaphors, Murdoch’s second wife Wendi Deng is the Lady Macbeth of his kingdom. Obsessed with Hollywood glitz and eager to raise her profile as a mogul’s wife—and harboring ambitions of her own as a potential power player in her husband’s model—Deng floats among News Corp.’s properties, dabbling in films and even maintaining an office at MySpace at one point (she’s still involved with MySpace’s operations in China). She briefly partnered with the wife of former MGM chairman Harry Sloan on a movie starring her friend Zhang Ziyi —the star of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon —before the project fell through. Deng’s social ambition is gargantuan, and she is cultivating a mogul’s wives sewing circle including Anne Wojcicki, the wife of Google co-founder Sergei Brin. The Rogue Knight Roger Ailes’ Fox News brings in $700 million in annual profit to Fox News, and was the only reason the company made money last year. But the festival of white rage that Ailes has unleashed to bring those dollars in has put Murdoch in an awkward position with the White House—a place he never likes to be, politics aside. The tension between profit and access blew up last month in a bizarre New York Times story featuring Ailes banging his dick on the table about how successful he’s been and Matthew Freud, Elizabeth Murdoch’s husband, delivering a pointed attack on Fox News’ “horrendous and sustained disregard of the journalistic standards.” It’s unclear where Murdoch stands on Fox News, aside from the fact that he loves money. Insiders say it was none other than Wendi Deng and James Murdoch who arranged for the Times ‘ Tim Arango to talk to Freud for that story, meaning Murdoch’s closest family members are plotting against his biggest earner. Add to those the mess at the New York Post , which is facing a rash of lawsuits exposing the foul racism and sexism that editor Col Allan has fostered, and the boondoggle of MySpace, which Murdoch bought for $580 million in 2006 only to watch it get demolished by Facebook. Murdoch is a vile man, who has done vile things. It’s fitting that the black empire he built so efficiently over the course of his life should begin to fray at the end of his reign. But it’s still kind of sad.

Nicki Minaj Isn’t ‘Rushing’ Her Debut Album

‘I’d love to put an album out this year, but I don’t believe in rushing things,’ Young Money MC says. By Shaheem Reid Nicki Minaj Photo: MTV News Nicki Minaj ‘s latest string of guest appearances have garnered her plenty of attention — actress Michelle Trachtenberg even posted a vlog of herself singing Nick’s verse to Robin Thicke’s “Shakin’ it 4 Daddy.” The blogs are also buzzing about her verse (and Freddy Krueger look) in the Ludacris “My Chick Bad” video, as well as her appearance in the Mariah Carey “Up Out My Face” clip. Will these famous collaborators return the favor and jump on Minaj’s debut LP? “I’m sure they will. You know what’s funny — I thinking I’m gonna have more features than I even wanna put on my album,” she told MTV News recently. “I’ve gotten great feedback from artists I look up to and never thought I’d work with. They’re already in line to be on the project. But it’s like, ‘Do I want to put out a debut album with a 1,000 features on it or do I wanna finally showcase Nicki?’ I’m not worried about features at all because I’ve been blessed to come in the game and work with top-notch artists from the inception of my career.” Those guest appearances and her verses on the Young Money album will have to tide her fans over for the time being — she’s just getting around to recording her album. “I’m the very beginning stage of the recording process of my album,” she explained. “I have songs that where I am now, they aren’t a great representation of me to where I’m at musically. I wanna start from scratch but I do have my single and it’ll be out. It’s gonna be ‘Massive Attack.’ “With the album, just like with my mixtape, I never like to rush it,” she added. “With the album, I think it’s more important that people get accustomed to seeing a female rapper again. Before I drop an album, people need to come out and see. People don’t even know what a female rapper does. We’re so not used to seeing it. It’s nonexistent in categories. We don’t get nominated. I need to work [the people] up to accepting a female rapper again and accepting my style and all of that — then the album will come. Honestly, I’d love to put an album out this year, but I don’t believe in rushing things either. We’ll see.” Related Artists Nicki Minaj

Jennifer Lopez Parts Ways With Sony Records

With the release of her new album up in the air, the singer/actress is set to host ‘Saturday Night Live’ this weekend. By Gil Kaufman Jennifer Lopez Photo: MTV News Jennifer Lopez is scheduled to be the host and musical guest on “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, but unlike most host/guests, at the moment Jenny from the Block doesn’t seem to have much to promote during her appearance. That’s because, according to Entertainment Weekly , the singer has split with longtime record label Sony Music’s Epic Records, which was slated to release her delayed seventh album, Love? , in April. After taking time off to become a mother of twins with husband Marc Anthony, Lopez was working on her comeback album, releasing the shoe fetish song “Louboutins” last year. She famously wiped out while lip-synching that tune at November’s American Music Awards , but when the song fizzled on the charts, failing to crack the top 10 on the singles tally, the heat on the project apparently cooled off. “Jennifer had a wonderful relationship with the Sony Music Group, and they have shared many successes together, but the time was right to make a change that best serves the direction of her career as an actress and recording artist. She is grateful and appreciative to everyone at Sony for all that they accomplished together,” the singer’s manager, Benny Medina, said in a statement Monday. Her rep told EW that Lopez is already negotiating with another record label. A Sony spokesperson could not be reached for comment at press time. The story broke on Monday on the Deadline Hollywood blog, where it was reported that Lopez’s contract had ended and that she’d fulfilled it with “Louboutins” and another recent single, “Fresh Out the Oven,” which leaked online in October. The report also stated that it’s unclear if Lopez was finished with the album, which reportedly features the Neptunes, Danja, Jim Jonsin and Rodney Jerkins. Unnamed Lopez “insiders” said the album was “by no means done” and that she had only finished a few songs for it. Lopez is slated to return to the big screen in late April in the romantic comedy “The Back-Up Plan.” Related Artists Jennifer Lopez

Rihanna Says Next Album Will Be ‘More Energetic’

Singer wants to combine the ‘grime’ of Rated R with more up-tempo pop for her next effort. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by MTV Korea Rihanna Photo: MTV News Rihanna has had a difficult past 12 months in the aftermath of her assault by Chris Brown . But the “Hard” superstar has endured, by being both outspoken about her experience in hopes of helping others and by channeling her experience into Rated R, her most rounded effort to date. She told MTV News last year that she “vented” on the project . Don’t expect her next album to be as dark as Rated R, though. Rihanna said the follow-up, which has no timetable set yet, will be less intense. ” Rated R, I love the sound of it, in terms of the bass,” Rihanna explained. “I really like the bottom, the grime of it. But if I were to combine that with more energetic, up-tempo pop records, then I think that will be a happy marriage. And that’s where we’ll probably go next.” Rated R was inspired mostly by Rihanna’s ordeal in the wake of her and Brown’s breakup. The singer was the subject of media headlines worldwide. She kept away from the spotlight after a brief reunion with Brown following their altercation. But when Rihanna returned, she had an album that chronicled her months away from the glare. “This album is an expression of all those feelings that I went through in the last eight months, just different emotions,” she said shortly after Rated R ‘s release. “All of it isn’t angry, all of it isn’t dark and sad, ’cause I didn’t go through that the whole time. That was part of it. It was really a roller coaster, and you get that when you’re listening to the album.” Related Artists Rihanna

Drake Says Thank Me Later Influenced By Nas, Andre 3000

‘I went back and really studied Nas and Andre 3000 and then came back with this album,’ rapper said about his debut album. By Jayson Rodriguez Drake Photo: Tyrone Kerr/ FilmMagic Drake has plenty of people onboard to give him advice on the process of recording his major-label debut album, Thank Me Later. There’s Lil Wayne, of course, his lyrical mentor. And Kanye West, who the Toronto MC said has been his biggest musical influence . Jay-Z, in interviews, has even gone on record relaying some tips to the upstart rapper. According to Drake, though, the former “Degrassi” actor sought out the audio work of Nas and OutKast’s Andre 3000 to help inspire the work on his project. “I went back and I really studied Nas,” Drake explained in a video recorded over the weekend and posted online on Monday (February 22) . “Nas was somebody that I used to listen to his raps and never understood how he did it. I always wanted to understand how he painted those pictures and his [rhyming] bar structure. I went back and really studied Nas and Andre 3000 and then came back with this album.” Thank Me Later is due later this year on Young Money/Universal Records. In the spring, the rapper will kick off a headlining, eco-friendly tour to promote the album. The album will be Drake’s first solo project since 2009’s So Far Gone, the dark mixtape that featured the breakout hit “Best I Ever Had.” While the Young Money cohort has been mum about his plans for the follow-up, he did reveal his debut would be more upbeat in comparison to his mixtape. “It’s gonna be bigger, it’s gonna sound happier,” he said. “More victorious, ’cause that’s where I’m at in my life.” Related Artists Drake Nas

Kanye West’s New ‘Coldest Winter’ Video Is ‘Haunting,’ Director Says

Nabil Elderkin calls clip, premiering this week, ‘minimalistic, slow and very visual.’ By Jayson Rodriguez Kanye West Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images Kanye West continues to release videos for 2008’s 808s & Heartbreak album as the rapper is set to debut the latest, “Coldest Winter,” this week. The clip was helmed by frequent collaborator Nabil Elderkin who also directed West’s “Paranoid” (featuring a cameo by Rihanna) and “Welcome to Heartbreak.” Elderkin said for “Coldest Winter,” one of the most personal records on the emotional project, based on West’s past relationship with his former fiance and the lost of his mother, the video isn’t as intense as their previous work together. “It’s pretty minimalistic,” he said. “It’s slow and very visual. I just wanted to catch the vibe of the song and not get too literal. Because the lyrics are very close to Kanye and go much deeper than the video goes, obviously hearing the song you know it’s very emotional.” In the track, West, replete with an ominous AutoTune-tinged quality to his voice, express his dismay over a lost loved one. “Goodbye my friend, will I ever love again?” he croons repeatedly throughout the track. The director wrote the treatment for the project and described the final product as a boundary-pushing effort compared to their past work. According to Elderkin, the pair experimented in the visual medium in a way they haven’t ever done before. He said the process was more challenging for him, particularly since West wasn’t a part of the editing process and only saw the final version. The MC, however, approved the finished product. The final version even includes a revamped version of the track, according to Elderkin. “This is definitely more of a haunting one,” he said of the number. ” ‘Cause this is sort of a remix. I don’t think anyone has heard this version of the song. He did some really amazing sound work to this one. This one he got into his production a little bit more.” At press time, the debut date for the “Coldest Winter” video had not been announced. Related Artists Kanye West

The Google CEO and His Mistress: The Tell-All Blog

Eric Schmidt has long campaigned for free-flowing information, and even against the very idea of secrecy . But we doubt the Google CEO loves disclosure so much he’ll approve of an indiscreet blog-cum-memoir by his sometime mistress. Schmidt parted ways with Bohner last summer , but that hasn’t kept him out of what a tipster in his ex-girlfriend’s social circle called her “pet project:” a multimedia confessional autobiography, including a Google-hosted blog called “Recovery Girl 007” , and eventually a book. On the blog, Bohner writes about Schmidt, dubbing him “Dr. Strangelove” and disclosing that he gave her a prototype iPhone. She also calls Steve Jobs a “stoned Jesuit preist” (more below). That aside, the intricate online memoir-in-progress primarily details Bohner’s recovery from cocaine and alcohol addiction via 12-step programs and yoga. It’s not clear how Bohner is funding the project, which has seen the former CNBC correspondent hire an art director, webmaster and editor, all prominently credited here and at the bottom of this post in what might just be the most crowded masthead ever assembled for a personal Blogspot. One gossip thinks Schmidt’s money is somehow behind the project, but we’re not so sure; barely a year ago, when he was still dating Bohner, the married billionare was showering her with little more than love and jewelry, despite an overture for him to put money into the documentary company where Bohner worked. Maybe Bohner’s hocked some of those gifts, or is simply relying on savings. It certainly doesn’t seem as though she’s become reentangled with Schmidt; our tipster wrote that the couple are “hitting it too occasionally for her liking” — which could well mean not at all. What Bohner has so far detailed of her personal autobiography is certainly rattling stuff of the sort that would pull a caring lover’s heartstrings. She writes about snorting cocaine in Hyde Park, London; bingeing on tequila in Los Angeles; sipping brandy at age eight; quitting booze and then relapsing; shaking and heaving at a friend’s house when trying to go dry; and getting checked in to a detox center. (It is a “Colonel Stevenson” who introduces Bohner to brandy as a child in Southern Spain. That this same Colonel Stevenson appears on Bohner’s more public blog is, along with a pointer from our tipster, how we know the former Donald Trump ghostwriter is also responsible for the Recovery Girl 007 blog.) We assume Bohner will also eventually give the backstory behind her criminal record. Using her birth day and year, gleaned from her blog, and a public records search, we found she’d been sentenced to just under three years (of probation?) in South Florida (where she now resides) for aggressive assault with a weapon, no intent to kill, in a 2005 Florida incident. In New Jersey she got three years probation for a crime we’ve not yet determined. Then there were Bohner’s landlord issues in New York City. After two civil filings from a building management company in late 2005 and early 2006, Bohner was forcibly evicted in May 2006, according to a public records search. Despite repeated attempts, we were not able to elicit any quote or rebuttal from Bohner on her project or background. On her website, Bohner writes about turning her life around with help from a Buddhist monastery in Thailand, where she worked, and from a popular Los Angeles yoga instructor, Keith Fox. Schmidt has good reason to hope that turnaround sticks: On Bohner’s site, the former business journalist writes repeatedly about the men in her life; it’s not hard to imagine Bohner burning an ex who falls out of her good graces. In addition to Schmidt, Bohner’s dated author Michael Lewis (to whom she was briefly married) and Lazard executive Steve Langman. Among the lovers on the Recovery Girl site is someone code-named Dr. Strangelove, who is often in Los Angeles. “Dr.” Eric Schmidt holds a Ph.D. as well as a home in Santa Barbara County. Dr. Strangelove and Eric Schmidt are one in the same, as the first of several excerpts below makes clear. During a trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands (emphasis added): I haven’t thought about Dr. Strangelove in such a long time-I try to sweep all of that data completely under the Persian carpet. That’s a lie. I think about him every so often in these fleeting cinematic flashes…I have completely stopped sleeping. My friend Jason is so worried about it that he confiscates my Blackberry… I’ve been sleeping with my Blackberry just in case Strangelove might send an e-mail. If I was really smart I ditch the Blackberry for the iPhone he gave me – the prototype version . But I have yet to arrive. Stephen Jobs is not St. Stephen. He’s just a stoned Jesuit priest lost in his garden . Strangelove still has his stranglehold on me and nothing is new under the sun. Later in the same post: The dream is always the same… strolling through winding paths at a government insane asylum in northern Massachusetts.I’ve been committed-against my will. It is Strangelove, my genuinely caring, concerned boyfriend . He has convinced me, or, he has convinced me that I’ve convinced him, that I am suicidal. The dream always begins with me walking the grounds of the campus. I look for the cafeterias with the free food. I can’t find the line for the free bus back to Santa Monica. I keep pulling on the locked doors. At the Buddhist temple in Thailand : How did I get here? There was the phone call. There was the betrayal. Dr. Strangelove had lied about his involvement in it all . And then there were a couple of conversations that followed. And all I remember feeling was that I had to get out of L.A. After detox in South Florida : You see I wasn’t going to go back to Los Angeles. That part was clear. The L.A . experiment hadn’t worked. Game over. Case closed. The work thing had ended when I went to the monastery in Thailand. And the relationship was officially over; Dr. Strangelove was dead . Next chapter. We’ll certainly be reading Bohner’s future installments closely. And we’re sure Schmidt will, too.
