‘Avatar’ Sequels Planned For December 2014, ’15

Director James Cameron outlines his plan to shoot the sequels together. By Aly Semigran Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington in “Avatar” Photo: 20th Century Fox On James Cameron’s watch, come 2014 and 2015, it will, in fact, be a blue, blue Christmas. The writer/producer/director, who was at the helm of 2009’s Oscar-winning, box-office-record-breaking “Avatar,” told Entertainment Weekly that fans of the big-screen digital breakthrough should expect its subsequent sequels within the next three to four years. “I am in the process of writing the next two ‘Avatar’ films now,” Cameron said. “We are planning to shoot them together and post them together, and we will probably release them not quite back to back, but about a year apart.” Cameron said that the “current plan” is for the follow-ups to hit theaters by “Christmas ’14 and ’15.” While the first “Avatar” took more than four years from inception to screen, Cameron told MTV News back in December 2009, “My next goal is to refine the technique, make it easier so it doesn’t take as long.” “From the time we capture and finish the capture, it’s literally nine to 10 months to get the CG characters working, to get their facial musculature working. … So now we have Jake, we have Neytiri. Sam can step right back into it, the characters will fit them like a glove, and we’ll just go on. So a lot of the start-up torque that had to be done for one movie really makes more sense if you play it out across several films,” Cameron explained. While the 56-year-old did not divulge on too many plot details for the “Avatar” sequels, he did confirm to EW that characters such as Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), should be expected to make a return. “Basically, if you survived the first film, you get to be in the second film, at least in some form,” Cameron said. After hinting that the sequels would take place in Pandora’s ocean, Cameron spoke to MTV News last year about how he would make the new environment come to life. “I think what we should do there is — because we’ll have to have characters that are in and under the water — is that we should actually capture them underwater,” the “Titanic” director said. And while Cameron’s storyline may change from the first to the second and third films, it seems his purpose behind the project has stayed steadfast. “Fox has partnered with me to donate a chunk of the profits to environmental causes that are at the heart of the ‘Avatar’ world,” he told EW. “I didn’t want to make more ‘Avatar’ movies without a grander plan in place.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

J.K. Simmons Reveals ‘Spider-Man 4’ Character Arc

‘J. Jonah Jameson was going to be somehow exiled or disgraced or demoted,’ actor tells MTV News at Sundance of scrapped film. By Eric Ditzian J.K. Simmons Photo: MTV News PARK CITY, Utah — We’ll probably never know the full extent of what Sam Raimi had planned for “Spider-Man 4,” including widespread rumors that John Malkovich would play the villain Vulture . Sony Pictures bailed on the project early last year and is currently rebooting the franchise with Marc Webb in the director’s chair. But pieces of Raimi’s aborted “Spider-Man” puzzle could drip out in the future. In fact, J.K. Simmons, who played Daily Bugle head honcho J. Jonah Jameson, kicked MTV News a puzzle piece when he outlined his character’s planned arc for the flick. “J. Jonah Jameson was going to be somehow exiled or disgraced or demoted and end up in some little cubicle somewhere and be railing, even more than usual, against the world,” Simmons told us at the Sundance Film Festival . The actor was in town to promote “The Music Never Stops,” a moving drama about a man whose brain tumor renders him unable to differentiate past from present. But our talk inevitably turned to the “Spider-Man” that will never be, and Simmons admitted he was sad to see his version of the franchise die off — not least because it meant he wouldn’t get to cash that hefty check. “I’m still reeling from the rug being pulled out of us,” he said. “I had just bought a house I can’t afford!” Shortly before Sony pulled the plug, Simmons had been eying work on another three “Spider-Man” films and was having creative meetings with Raimi. “There wasn’t a script-script yet, but I had seen Sam a few weeks before that and we talked about story ideas, because on those movies, we always started on the script and we expanded on it,” he explained. “There was a lot of either us coming up with stuff in the room or doing it literally on set — a lot of improv-y stuff with the whole cast in those office scenes.” Simmons added: “He was saying, ‘This is the basic outline, now go bring me funny stuff.’ ” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Jay-Z, Kanye West’s ‘H.A.M.’ Beatsmith Lex Luger Looks Ahead

‘I feel like I can go where I want to go,’ producer tells Mixtape Daily . By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Cristopher Schafer and Samuel Rogers Lex Luger Photo: MTV News Behind the Beats: Lex Luger Last year, Virginia native Lex Luger emerged on the scene as a producer on the rise with a pair of breakout numbers: Waka Flocka Flame’s rumbling “Hard in da Paint” and Rick Ross’ industrial-strength banger “B.M.F. (Blowin’ Money Fast).” This year, however, he’s already showed a more diverse approach to projects, a full-length effort with Three 6 Mafia’s Juicy J and the first single from Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch the Throne joint LP. The young beatsmith — who, like Big K.R.I.T., learned how to produce using the PlayStation video game “Beat Generator” — expects to showcase his range in 2011. “My sound is hard, but I want people to hear another side,” Luger said. “I got R&B, pop, everything, and I want people to see that and hear that. I feel like I could do that now because of this Kanye West and Jay-Z record. I feel like I can go where I want to go.” Bow down. Five-Star Stellar Hits Rick Ross’ “B.M.F. (Blowin’ Money Fast)” : “To take something that a lot of people thought was nothing and to turn it into another dimension of sound was crazy to me,” Luger said. “The reaction from people that I saw was crazy to me. That’s when I really knew this is what i wanted to do.” Waka Flocka Flame’s “Hard in da Paint” : Luger said he was in Atlanta the first time he heard it. “I don’t listen to the radio or go out that much; I just work,” he explained. “When I got to Atlanta, I think I was on the way back from the airport and my boy turned on the radio. My boy was like, ‘Yeah, this is it.’ I said, ‘Turn it up,’ and it felt crazy.” Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “H.A.M.” : ” ‘H.A.M.’ really came about in New York City. Me and Kanye, we had did ‘See Me Now.’ I played him a lot of beats, but he liked the ones that I didn’t expect him to like. I left, like, eight beats with him; he called me, like, two weeks later and he said he wanted, for sure, two. That was one of the ones. … I sent him the track out. He did what he did to it, still I didn’t hear the song. I couldn’t hear it until everyone else heard it. Working with Kanye was crazy. I can’t really explain it. He’s a perfectionist. He has to have everything perfect and out the ordinary, 10 times greater than everything. He’s a crazy guy, but he’s fire.” Hottest Streak Thus Far From 2010 up to now: He produced smashes from Ross, Waka, Slim Thug and his recently completed Juicy J mixtape, Rubba Band Business . Currently, he’s hoping to get in the studio with Curren$y, Drake, Nipsey Hussle and Wiz Khalifa. For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out . Related Artists Kanye West Jay-Z

Adam Lambert Taking Time Writing ‘Honest’ Follow-Up

‘American Idol’ runner-up predicts sophomore LP’s first single will hit airwaves in late summer. By James Dinh Adam Lambert Photo: MTV News Glamberts rejoice! Adam Lambert is working on his next album, and he’s ready to get personal. In an effort to avoid an unfortunate sophomore slump, the singer is taking his time making the follow-up to his debut, For Your Entertainment, completely sincere. Speaking with MTV News at the season-three premiere of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” in Los Angeles, the “American Idol” runner-up dished a few details about the LP. “I’m in talks, so it’s all kind of being conceptualized right now, and what we’re hoping for is maybe by the fall,” Lambert said of the project’s progression. “So, I’m going to take my time and really write the most personal songs, the most powerful songs. I really want it to be something that’s really honest and real.” But before the LP drops, the “Idol” alum predicts the project’s lead single will hit airwaves in late summer. The 28-year-old singer revealed that the album will be in tune with the rock/pop sound of his debut, but with a bit of a twist. “I’m starting to talk to some writers and come up with some ideas, and I’ll be writing a lot of it myself,” he told OnTheRedCarpet.com . “It’s going to be very pop, very rock, maybe even a little dark.” Fans got a taste of some new-ish material from the entertainer when Lambert dropped a five-song EP in December. “Acoustic Live!” included stripped-down versions of the singer’s For Your Entertainment hits, including “Whataya Want From Me.” Are you excited for Adam Lambert’s next album? Stalley Is Shooting For Greatness On Lincoln Way Nights

Ohio native gave up NBA aspirations and tells Mixtape Daily, ‘I’m more than an MC.’ By Jayson Rodriguez Stalley Photo: Courtesy of Stalley Fire Starter: Stalley In person, upstart rapper Stalley is unassuming and measured. But once the former high school sports star gets in the booth, he delivers with the same kind of authority that landed him on the University of Michigan men’s basketball team. Now, on the cusp of releasing his next project, Lincoln Way Nights (Intelligent Trunk Music), a mixtape set to drop in February, the Ohio native is poised to make the transition from underground sensation to starter. “I’m more than an MC, I’m actually a writer. I can write songs. I can write good songs, and that’s what I want to do,” Stalley told Mixtape Daily. “That’s what I did on this project. I wrote out full songs, with ill concepts, ill lyrics and ill beats. Everything is put together. I want to be a great American writer, not just an MC, not just a rapper. So to be that, is just amazing to me.” The Creative Control/ Ski Beatz affiliate first made noise last year with his Madlib-inspired project, MadStalley: The Autobiography. Since then, he’s made his mark in a variety of ways, including blog partnerships with Slam magazine and HighSnobiety, a clothing sponsorship with 10 Deep and putting out the rumbling track “Hercules.” Now, three years after giving his undivided attention to hip-hop — back-to-back injuries at Michigan and then Long Island University shifted his focus — he’s beginning to see the payoff. That decision wasn’t easy for the Massillon native: His Ohio hometown is obsessive about high school sports (check the movie “Go Tigers” ), but Stalley was able to channel that intensity into the laidback Lincoln Way Nights (Intelligent Trunk Music) collection. “When you’re someone known to be a lyricist, when you’re writing certain music, it comes off as dumbing it down,” he explained of searching for a sound over punchlines. “And people are confused, ‘Is this good?’ ‘Cause you’re used to this super lyrical dude. I took that and put it to the side and was just me. I spoke my story in a deeper way over deeper beats. So, I’m really happy with it. I’m becoming the artist I want to be.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . Related Videos Mixtape Daily: Stalley, Rick Ross

Is Justin Bieber’s “Never Say Never” Movie a Must Watch?

Just barely legal to do ANYTHING in this country, Justin Bieber has the world, and every tween and teeny bopper (and some grown women) hanging on his every word. With his young voice, his ALL THE WAY fly style (which I can’t even hate on. Cause his shoe point is on point) and who can forget the hair. Now he is adding a film to his repertoire. Never say Never named after one of his songs (of course) will hit both 3d and 2d theaters February 11th (a day before my 21st birthday). Now I’ve watched the trailer and this seems quite interesting. (or not!) It is basically a documentary of Justin Bieber’s life and how he was into drumming from a young age and the movie continues up until current day and the latest craze of Bieber Fever. (glad I don’t have that) If you’re a Bieber fan, I suggest you go to the doctor before seeing this movie cause you just might pass out during the movie. There is an incredible mixture of old family movies, of Justin as a child (lol oh wait he still is a child) No but seriously, it’s good that his family took the time to document Justin making beats on chairs, playing the piano, playing the guitar because it is quite obvious that has paid off. Also mixed in is some of Justin’s You Tube video. Which we all know was how was discovered. (I need to get my You Tube game up) The movie also gives a behind the scenes look at the Biebs on tour with his mentor Usher, his performances with the big names in the industry. And of course quick interviews with the ever loyal Justin Bieber fans, for without which he would be nothing. And of course to make the movie all nice and warm and fuzzy, the moral behind the movie is to never let someone tell you that you can’t do something. Hints the Never say Never title. People close to Justin, in the film attest to the fact that he was turned away by major labels. He was told that he would never sell. And bottom line – he wasn’t going to make it. And if you’ve been living under and rock or smacked on the head by a dead bird, he has proven many people wrong. Part of me, when I first saw the trailer, was like ok he could’ve had his own ‘E True Hollywood Story” and kept on moving, but I think it is a very smart business move for Justin and his team to make it a motion picture. Because I am willing to bet that he was ALL THE WAY hands on with this project, which means possible royalties from ticket sales, and of course when it’s on DVD he will be making money hand over fist. Touché Justin…Touché. I’m not sure I personally would spend my money to see this movie, and even if I wanted to, I do not want to stand in line with a bunch of screaming and over exaggerated Bieber fans. But I know the film will be a hit at the box office without a doubt. Tryin’ To Look Up Amy Adams’ Skirt on The Muppets Set of the Day

I don’t really know who Amy Adams is. I just know that I am trying to look up her skirt on the set of The Muppets movie. You’d think Hollywood would have the ability to find new things to make movies about, but shit’s just remake after remake, after remake, and despite having memories of watching The Muppet show and liking it in the 80s, my friend tried to make me watch the shit recently and I wanted to kill myself, those fucking creepy stuffed things are irritating as shit.. The only way I’d be down with this project is if it was a hardcore porn, not cuz I want to see Amy Adams fuck, but cuz I want to see muppets fuck, and if Amy Adams happens to be there, so be it…. Either way, here are the pics, lacking in vagina lip….but I give the best I can….it’s not my fault Amy Adams is boring as shit.

Dr. Dre’s Detox Not Due April 20, Rep Says

A rep for rapper/producer says viral video isn’t referring to long-awaited album’s release date. By Jayson Rodriguez Dr. Dre Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage After a video went viral of Dr. Dre seemingly announcing an April 20 release date for his long-awaited Detox, a rep for the rapper/producer told MTV News that the clip wasn’t referring to the album’s arrival. So what was the legendary producer referring to in the clip? That remains unclear at press time. Dr. Dre has been at work on his highly anticipated LP for years now, scraping together several versions of the songs at various times; in one case, he gave several beats slated for his project to 50 Cent for the G-Unit superstar’s debut album. In November, Dre’s first single, “Kush,” hit the Web and was soon followed by a potential follow-up, the Eminem-assisted “I Need a Doctor.” A month later, Dre premiered the video for “Kush” featuring Snoop Dogg and Akon. The clip, along with a cover story in the latest issue of hip-hop magazine XXL, seemed to confirm that the rap Chinese Democracy was finally slated for release. The producer’s penchant for perfectionism has long been the reason for the delay of Detox, which will be Dre’s first album since his 2001 LP in 1999. “[I’m] trying to put it out by the end of the fall,” Dre said in an interview this past summer about Detox. “Trying to give everybody what they’ve been waitin’ for and make sure they’re not disappointed; that’s all I’m doing.” What do you think Dre was referring to in the viral video? Swizz Beatz Says No Monster Mondays Tracks Will Make Haute Living

‘That’s really just a forum for people to promote great music,’ producer says of weekly free-music series. By Mawuse Ziegbe Swizz Beatz Photo: Sohyung Kang/ MTV News Swizz Beatz is leaving his free music on the Web. The Grammy-nominated producer’s weekly Monster Mondays series of gratis ear goodies follows in the footsteps of fellow MC and songsmith Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Fridays campaign , but unlike ‘Ye, Swizzy maintained that his upcoming Haute Living album will be largely free of Monster records. “Monster Mondays is its own entity for right now. But will I put my first single on Monster Mondays? 100 percent. Monster Mondays, Swizzworld,100 percent. I’m gonna promote my stuff when it’s time,” Swizz recently told MTV News. “That’s really just a forum for people to promote great music, which is now turning into them shooting videos for it, labels putting up budgets for it. It’s just a great forum.” True to the spirit of the initiative, some of the music has already turned up on other projects, like the Diddy-Dirty Money track “Ass on the Floor,” which first hit the Web via Monster Mondays but ultimately ended up on the trio’s debut LP. So far, everyone from Ace Hood to Busta Rhymes has participated in the campaign — which kicked off in October — but Swizzy singled out his team-up with lyrical legend Rakim as his personal highlight of the series. “My favorite song on there is ‘King Tut.’ Getting a chance to work with Rakim and let people to just hear him, like, in 2010 when he did it. Like, that’s Rakim right there. Just to be able to say that I did that was super fun and [there’s] no politics involved. We don’t gotta deal with nobody. It’s no politics — I’m not talking to no labels, no management. It’s like, ‘Yo, you either wanna do it or not,’ ” Swizz explained of the project’s energy. Swizz has also switched up Kanye’s original music-centric blueprint by putting out a brief documentary of the creation of “Speechless,” a track that features his superstar wife Alicia Keys and longtime Ruff Ryder crony Eve riffing over Yeezy’s “Devil in a New Dress” beat. As the hitmaker is apparently in full-on collaborative mode — outside music, Swizz has also struck up partnerships with Reebok and luxury car company Aston Martin — he also got the production pupils from his New York University class in on the Monster Monday action. “Then taking it to what I did with my wife with the documentary with her and Eve, taking a whole other side and adding a documentary vibe to it. The biggest thing out of the documentary, other than them seeing the process, was it was done by some of my students from NYU,” he said. “Just taking that and adding talent with talent, it’s just fun. It’s all fun.” What Monster Mondays track do you like best so far? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Swizz Beatz
