Michael Jackson’s Michael Has King Of Pop’s ‘Spirit,’ Producer Says

“This feels like Michael, this feels like the spirit of Michael,” Teddy Riley tells MTV News. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Steven Roberts Teddy Riley had a long-standing working relationship with Michael Jackson, and the producer said Jackson’s latest project, Michael , is as authentic an LP as any of the superstar’s past work. “Oh, they’re gonna say this is him, that’s the first thing,” Riley told MTV News about fan’s anticipated reaction to the set. “And this feels good. This feels like Michael, this feels like the spirit of Michael. And we love him, that’s what they’re gonna say.” The project, which arrived in stores and online Tuesday (December 14), is the first posthumous MJ collection since the singer passed in June 2009. Former WikiLeaks Staffer to Launch Alternative OpenLeaks Today

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — A former staff member of WikiLeaks said he will launch a new alternative website that he promises will be more transparent than WikiLeaks. Daniel Domscheit-Berg, the former deputy to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange says he will launch Openleaks ( www.openleaks.org ) Monday in an effort to aid anonymous sources expose sensitive information to the public eye. As of this morning, the website displays nothing more than the Openleaks logo with the message “Coming soon!” The new website will be launched on Monday from its Germany headquarters as part of a board of directors-run, undisclosed foundation, said reporter Jesper Huor in a documentary by Swedish broadcaster SVT that will be aired on Sunday. “Openleaks is a technology project that is aiming to be a service provider for third parties that want to be able to accept material from anonymous sources,” Domscheit-Berg said in interviews conducted in Berlin. Domscheit-Berg said he left WikiLeaks after a falling out with Assange over the lack of transparency in the organization's decision-making process. In an interview with OWNI technology website, Domscheit-Berg declined to further elaborate on his dispute with Wikileaks but said that “in these last months, the organization has not been open any more, it lost its open-source promise.” He added that Openleaks intends on providing a vehicle to publish leaked materials without taking on a publisher role itself. “If you preach transparency to everyone else you have to be transparent yourself. You have to fulfill the same standards you expect from others, and I think that's where we've not been heading in the same direction philosophically anymore,” said Domscheit-Berg in the documentary. Domscheit-Berg said he had issues with the way WikiLeaks handled larger leaks, including the 400,000 classified US war files from Iraq and 76,000 from Afghanistan from earlier this year. He said that it would have been wiser for WikiLeaks to publish these documents “slowly, step by step, to grow the project.” The launch of Openleaks comes after mounting speculation about the existence of copycat sites of the controversial site. Meanwhile, both WikiLeaks and Assange continue to face pressure after the site published 250,000 secret US diplomatic cables last month. Financial institutions such as Swiss Postfinance, Mastercard, Visa and Pay Pal have cut off the means for people to send donations to WikiLeaks, while Assange has been imprisoned in the UK and faces extradition to Sweden on sex crime allegations. added by: ras_menelik

The Wikileaks Word Frequency

The Wikileaks Word Frequency A word cloud visualization of the words in the wikileaks documents. Size of the word reflects its frequency across the 292 documents released thus far. *** From the London Guardian article “12 Days of Wikileaks” “President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad dismissed the Wikileaks revelations as “psychological warfare.” Iran's foreign ministry spokesman thundered: “The enemies of the Islamic world are pursuing a project of Iranophobia and disunity. This project only protects the interests of the Zionist regime and its supporters.” Still, the documents will reinforce the regime's world view by underlining the huge effort being made by the US to contain Iran by applying pressure for UN sanctions over its nuclear programme or stopping arms deliveries to groups like Hamas and Hizbullah. It will be harder to maintain the pretence of good relations with Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states because of exposure of their fear of Tehran. Iran remains defiant and is not as isolated as Washington would like. It is influential in Iraq and has good relations with Turkey. It is clear that Barack Obama's efforts to reach out to it have failed, with some arguing he was never serious about engagement. The status quo looks volatile and threatening.” added by: maasanova

Meet the Most Dangerous Man in Cyberspace: The American Behind Wikileaks

In the spring of this year, before Wikileaks unleashed a flood of secret U.S. government documents, Rolling Stone met with “hacktivist” Jacob Appelbaum, a volunteer for the organization and a die-hard true believer in freedom of speech and personal privacy. Reporter Nathaniel Rich learned about Appelbaum's troubled childhood, his first forays into activism — in 2005, he set up unauthorized satellite internet connections in Iraq and, right after Hurricane Katrina, in one of New Orleans's poorest neighborhoods — and his growth into a global force for his beliefs. Appelbaum is the public face of Tor Project, an organization that, by introducing intermediaries between computers, is used to prevent some of the world's most repressive regimes from tracking activists' movements online. Dissidents from China, Tunisia and a suspected high-level member of the Iranian military have used it to protect their identities. While Appelbaum's work for Tor has been substantial, more notorious is his extensive work for Wikileaks. “Jake has been a tireless promoter behind the scenes of our cause,” founder Julian Assange said. The Wikileaks controversy has led Appelbaum to go underground, using Tor to protect himself and evade surveillance. He's set about living a life of anonymity, one where his mail is sent to a private drop, he pays rent in cash, and he doesn't enter his home address into any computer. “You can never take that information back once it's out there,” he said. “And it takes very little information to ruin a person's life.” http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/gear-up/blogs/November29/239095/238012 added by: ras_menelik

The Damned Things Aim To Bring ’20-Foot Zombie George Washington’ On Tour

Hard-rocking supergroup features members of Fall Out Boy, Anthrax and Every Time I Die. By James Montgomery Scott Ian and Joe Trohman of The Damned Things Photo: MTV News Nearly three years ago, Joe Trohman and Scott Ian met up, drank a fair amount and started talking about — of all things — their mutual love for Thin Lizzy. That initial conversation was the de facto beginning of the Damned Things, their heavy-riffing, hard-strutting new band. Of course, back then, both men were still busy with their day jobs — Trohman as the guitarist of Fall Out Boy and Ian as the epicenter of thrash legends Anthrax — so rather than pursuing the idea of forming a group together, they simply recorded a demo and kept the project under wraps, referring to it only with a super-secret (and sorta-awesome) code name: Methuselah. As you probably know by now, in the time since those initial sessions, things have changed , which means that, as 2010 comes to a close, Trohman and Ian now have a full band (joined by FOB drummer Andy Hurley, Anthrax guitarist Rob Caggiano and Every Time I Die yowler Keith Buckley) and a brand-new album, Ironiclast, due next week. About the only thing that’s changed is the name of the project. Seems no matter how rad of a handle it might have been, Methuselah just wasn’t going to cut it. “It was a really a good name; we couldn’t use it for legality’s sake,” Trohman laughed. “There’d probably be some guy in a Florida trailer park that was like, ‘I was in Methuselah in the ’60s, and check out this band with these current dudes that I think are rich. That’s my money!’ ” “There were a few bands called Methuselah,” Ian added. “But nobody actually had it trademarked, so we could’ve used it, but the second we would’ve done anything, our lawyer was like, ‘Expect to be sued,’ so we didn’t want to start this with a lawsuit.” So instead, they settled on the Damned Things — “Keith thought of it, because he’s a words guy,” Trohman joked — and got to work, reshaping their older material into a lean, mean batch of songs that somehow manages to incorporate the best elements of each member’s other> bands (the speedy riffs of Slayer, the hooks of FOB and the growl of ETID) while still remaining, at its core, a very retro-leaning record, with the blue-collar heart of Thin Lizzy and the majestic fretwork of Led Zeppelin being two obvious touchstones. And, somewhat surprisingly — given, you know, the whole Fall Out Boy connection — they’ve managed to win over even the most die-hard of hard-rock fans. For the most part. “It’s gratifying. I love the band and love the record, and everybody else in the band loves the band and loves the record, and that’s, first and foremost, the most important thing to me,” Trohman said. “And we all have made music in the past partly for ourselves and partly for other people, so it’s nice to see people digging it whether they want to or not. … I’m actually happy to see that there’s people that really, really like it, or don’t like it, because of the fact that we’re able to invoke some sort of strong feeling. It’s a good thing, I think.” And despite the varying nature of their respective groups, Trohman and Ian say the Damned Things remain, for the foreseeable future at least, their main focus. That’s sort of the whole point of the thing, really. “We’ve got tours lined up to the summer at this point — actually, options and opportunities to do stuff worldwide all the way through October. And that’s obviously what we’re hoping for. We were hoping we’d make a record that would stand on its own and not be about, like, ‘Well, let’s just book this band because it’s these guys from this band and these guys from this band,’ ” Ian said. “It’s really been about the record. The record’s been the driving force. If anything, with the success of [first single] ‘[We’ve Got a] Situation [Here]’ on the radio, it’s been more about that than even who’s in the band anymore, and that’s kind of what we’ve been hoping for, and that’s why we get to go on tour, and that’s why we’ll keep playing shows. … Really, when it comes down to it, nobody really cares who’s in the band if you make a crappy record.” And to that end, they’re already lining up plans for their upcoming shows (including a two-month run on the J

Q-Tip Explains His Issues With A Tribe Called Quest Documentary

‘It’s not only Tribe’s story; it’s all of ours,’ MC says of his concerns. By Jayson Rodriguez Q-Tip Photo: Mark Von Holden/WireImage Last week, Q-Tip stirred things up online when he tweeted that he was not in support of Michael Rapaport’s A Tribe Called Quest documentary . The MC and the director remained silent on the matter, refusing interview requests from a number of outlets. On Tuesday, however, Q-Tip appeared on satellite-radio station Shade 45’s morning show and explained his message. The veteran lyricist spoke with fill-in host Elliott Wilson of Rap Radar and said his opinion has nothing to do with his group being the focus of the doc, but with his role as a producer. “I’m a producer on this film; Tribe is a producer on this film,” he said. “When I speak, I’m speaking for the whole group. A lot of people think I’m speaking individually, even though I addressed it as ‘I’m not supporting’ it. In reality, as producers, there’s just different things that need to be done, edit-wise. The sentiment of the film is there. We feel like it’s 80 percent here. It’s just not there [all the way].” The Tribe MC said he and his groupmates have a final say over the project, per the agreement they made with Rapaport, an actor and first-time filmmaker. Although Tip wouldn’t specify the exact nature of his discomfort with the project, he said because the project is the first of its kind — “an extensive cinematic documentary about a hip-hop group” — it’s more than just a Tribe issue. “There’s so much riding on this,” he said. “It’s not only Tribe’s story; it’s all of ours. So we got to make sure sh– is down right.” Will you check out the Tribe documentary? Let us know in the comments. Related Artists Q-Tip A Tribe Called Quest

T.I.’s No Mercy: An Album Guide

Released as he serves an 11-month prison bid, Tip confronts his demons on introspective new LP. By Jayson Rodriguez T.I. Photo: Moses Robinson/ WireImage When T.I. announced after his release from prison earlier this year that his next album would be titled King Uncaged, the Atlanta rapper explained that the project would touch on his time behind bars but also hark back to the themes of his earlier material, which leaned heavily on street narratives. However, when he was arrested again in October — and subsequently sentenced to 11 months in prison — Tip reconfigured the album, including a title change. No Mercy arrived in stores and online on Tuesday (December 7). If the LP’s new name doesn’t convey the sentiment of the project, the content certainly does. Throughout No Mercy, T.I. is equal parts repentant about his mistakes but also fiery as he attacks his detractors, accusing them of turning their backs on him during hard times that have included two jail stints in less than 12 months’ time. “No Mercy” On the title track featuring The-Dream, Tip strikes a good balance, looking in the mirror while also turning it around on those who can’t see past his success, where he says he’s actually battling demons. “There’s no mercy for me, no crying myself to sleep,” The-Dream sings in his airy falsetto. “No mercy for me/ Nightmares have become my dreams.” “His wife and sons and daughter know that every day he tried to be a better person,” Tip raps over the measured production. “All they want is better verses/ To market to the merchants/ But when it’s closed curtains …” “Get Back Up” The theme of clemency continues on “Get Back Up” featuring Chris Brown . The sprightly number is loaded with rhymes that lash out against the media and blogs, among others, but the lyrics are conveyed in melodic tones, hushing the vitriol. The Atlanta MC, though, also shows signs of accepting responsibility for his faults, behavior that he carried over from his days in the trap: “I admit, yeah, I done some dumb sh–,” he raps in the song. “Disappointed everybody, I know/ Try not to hold that against me, though/ My road to redemption has no GPS/ So guess time must be invested for this to be manifested/ Yes, it’s hard living life in the spotlight/ Trying to dodge the haters the same time as the cop light/ The Bible says let he without sin cast the stone first/ The sinners are the ones that judge him, who was wrong first?” “Welcome to This World” No Mercy isn’t all gloom. T.I. is still an exceptional MC, and he holds his own lyrically with a list of guests that would excite a five-star hotel manager. On the brooding “Welcome to This World,” featuring Kanye West and Kid Cudi, Tip and ‘Ye trade boastful verses about the high-life. “She coming home with me, she finnin’ meet her doom,” Tip spits. “She ain’t saying I’m the greatest, finnin’ to change her tune/ The coldest and the hottest, call me December and June/ Deliver euphoria straight to your room.” “All She Wrote” On “All She Wrote,” Tip and Eminem swap bars about spending time with the wrong woman. “Poppin’ Bottles ” After jumping on Drake’s breakout 2010 track “Fancy,” the Toronto MC reunites with Tip for “Poppin’ Bottles,” a woozy strip-club anthem. “Amazing” And “Amazing” is a bottom-heavy banger, courtesy of the Neptunes, that also finds Tip setting aside the album’s weightier themes. But the best work on No Mercy stems from Tip dealing with adversity . The rapper admitted to a pill addiction in a Vibe magazine cover story and recently penned a blog on his personal website confessing that he’s “sick and tired” of being in and out of prison “Castle Walls” He teams with Christina Aguilera for the deeply personal “Castle Walls.” It’s here that Tip confronts the consequences of his actions; a captivating documentation of this chapter in his life. “Honestly, to me, I think I lose every benefit/ Of all that I’ve accomplished if my kids never win at sh–,” he raps. “Me knowing this, why should the verse I laid/ Be more important to me than the persons I raised? “I guess I’m saying that to say that opportunity today,” Tip continues. “Don’t equate to all the time it takes away from your kids.” What do you think of T.I.’s No Mercy ? DJ Khaled Teases Lil Wayne Collabo On We The Best Forever

‘When I work with Wayne, I always get the most classic verses,’ he tells Mixtape Daily. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway and Rahman Dukes DJ Khaled Photo: MTV News The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive If DJ Khaled’s records are movies, then the Miami-based radio jock is a director. And like all good cameramen, he wants to keep his script closely guarded. His next project is his first for Cash Money Records, and he’s looking to kick things off with a lead single that would put “The Matrix Reloaded” opening scene to shame. “I don’t want to tell you the name of the artist yet,” he told Mixtape Daily. “I want people to be surprised. But I have my first single.” It might not be that hard to figure out who he could have in store for the record. He’s new to Cash Money, and a certain Cash Money artist was recently released from prison. Plus, the two have a penchant for making smash hits together. “I can tell you for a fact that me and Wayne did work together,” Khaled said. “I’m not gonna lie, he’s on it. We’ll let that one go.” The album We the Best Forever marks Khaled’s major-label debut, and he’s hoping to make major moves with the set. In the past, he’s delivered two big hits on cue with each release. But now, he’s planning to stretch his LP out like an outfielder reaching over the fence to steal a home run. “Bigger team, and they’re letting me do what I want,” he said. So far, he’s 75 percent done with the project, which will also feature Chris Brown and Keyshia Cole on one record (he called it “Olympic torch music” because it’s so inspirational), Cee Lo Green (“Sleep When I’m Gone”) and, of course, Weezy. “When I work with Wayne, I always get the most classic verses, like ‘We Taking Over,’ ” Khaled said. “And this verse with my new one, it’s … I’m not even gonna lie: It’s amazing. “It’s one of them anthems that I do,” he added. “The streets are gonna embrace it on another level. When you hear it you’re gonna be like, ‘This is what I’m talking about.’ It’s that anthem, I got them.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines .
