Wale Was Rooting For Hometown Wizards In NBA Draft Lottery

‘Nah, we can’t get the #1 pick,’ the DMV MC recalls thinking of Wizards’ chances at star point guard John Wall. By Shaheem Reid Wale Photo: Getty Images Most of Wale’s hometown teams are giving fans great hope for the future. The Washington Nationals have a tremendous blue chip prospect pitcher in Stephen Strasburg. The Redskins acquired a first-ballot Hall of Fame quarterback in Donovan McNabb via trade and, this week, the Washington Wizards hit the lotto! One of the worst teams in the NBA, the Wizards struck the jackpot by winning the NBA lottery, which entitled them to the very first pick in this year’s NBA draft. It’s projected that the team will go with University of Kentucky Point Guard John Wall. “I’mma have to call old Johnny Boy today,” Wale said by phone from Atlanta, where he’s been in the studio with Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka Flame and Yung LA. “I never met him. I’mma just talk to him. Hopefully we’ll get him. You never know, but either way, he’s gonna have a tremendous career.” Prior to the actual Draft lottery, 14 teams were ranked in order of their regular-season records. The league-worst New Jersey Nets held the top position and, therefore, the best opportunity to get the #1 pick, with a little more than a 25 percent chance. Meanwhile, the Wizards were in the middle of the pack of 14, with a 10 percent shot. The Wizards, of course, came out on top, moving up to get Wall. Wale said he was conducting business on Tuesday, but found it difficult to concentrate with the NBA draft lottery under way. “I was actually on a conference call with [an] important company,” Wale said. “It was a countdown. Then it was like, ‘Nah, we can’t get the #1 pick.’ When it got to five left, I was like, ‘No way.’ When it was three [teams left], I completely dropped out of the conference call. I was not paying attention at all.” Wale says Wall could bring the Wizards much needed energy. “Young blood, new blood,” the DMV MC said. “I think he’ll complement Andray Blatche and Gil [Arenas] as well. I think Blatche can definitely be one of the best forwards in the league — at least the top of the East Coast. I think [Wall] will give them a opportunity to do a little more. I think [Blatche] showed he’s capable of being one of the top big men in the league when everybody got traded [last season].” Still, Wale concedes the Wizards will need a little more than Wall to get back into championship contention. “We obviously need the fan support,” he said. “We need to change the morale of the team; they have to believe they can do it. I’m a big LeBron James fan, but I’m also very supportive of all the teams coming out of D.C. I’m extra supportive. I always sit on the [arena/stadium] floor and cheer on the teams whenever I’m home: Redskins, Nationals, Capitals and United. You go to the Redskins games, and people support them good or bad. The flow at the Wizards games was not looking good towards the end of the season. I wanna turn that around.” What do you think of Wale’s loyalty to his hometown teams? Tell us in the comments! Consequence Says Kanye West And Q-Tip Bring Him To A ‘Higher Level’

MC hopes to drop a single soon from Cons TV, co-produced by the two hip-hop heavyweights. By Shaheem Reid Kanye West and Consequence Photo: MTV News G.O.O.D. Music artist Consequence says he has another single coming soon. This one will be off his Cons TV album, tentatively slated for summer. “We have one or two joints me and Q-Tip gotta tweak, and we should be putting out the first joint very soon,” he said. “Before Memorial Day, we should have the next single.” Cons’ album is being produced by the unstoppable beat combination of Kanye West and Q-Tip . With his label CEO and legendary cousin on the boards, Consequence knows there is zero margin for error. “You gotta work,” he said. “You gotta work even harder, because the expectations of what the records should come out to be are on a higher level now than when you’re working with upstart producers. [Working with a] Joe Schmo, there’s no expectations. They haven’t established a lineage, they haven’t established a track record for greatness. When you have Grammy winners and hip-hop legends doing your record, the records have to be at an unequivocal high. You have to rise to the occasion of what the project is. If you don’t, they are still going to be who they are, which is great pressure. You just gotta hit a jumper in somebody’s face. You can’t settle for the two; you gotta hit the three when the buzzer is about to go off.” The Queens native said he kept his recording within the familiar confines of the Big Apple rather than going to Hawaii, where Kanye has been recording and producing for various other artists. “Everything I did for my record was done in New York. Me and Kanye worked out here for my record, and me and Q-Tip are finishing up here as well,” he explained. Consequence has the mixtape Movies on Demand out right now. The project features the single “Childish Games” which guest star Asher Roth. Do you think Consequence will make Kanye and Tip proud? Let us know in the comments! ‘Mean Girls’ Follow-Up ‘Mean Moms’ In The Works

Lindsay Lohan and company won’t be back for new flick about suburban parents. By Jocelyn Vena Lindsey Lohan on the “Mean Girls” poster Photo: Paramount Pictures Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried and Rachel McAdams learned their lessons about putting enemies in their burn book a long time ago. But Hollywood seems to think a different generation should get in on the action. Following the theme of the 2004 comedy co-written by Tina Fey “Mean Girls,” “Mean Moms” is being prepped for the big screen, Variety reports. No names have been attached to star in the project yet, but Adam Shankman, Jennifer Gibgot and Jill Messick are all in talks to produce the flick for New Line. Much like “Mean Girls,” “Mean Moms” will be based on an advice book by Rosalind Wiseman. Wiseman’s “Queen Bees and Wannabees: Helping Your Daughter Survive Cliques, Gossip, Boyfriends, and the New Realities of Girl World” was the basis for the Lindsay Lohan flick about a girl who goes from homeschooling to the dangerous world of high school. The new film will take on the subject of the author’s 2006 book, “Queen Bee Moms and King Pin Dads: Dealing with the Parents, Teachers, Coaches, and Counselors Who Can Make — or Break — Your Child’s Future.” According to Variety, Dara and Chad Creasey will write the “Mean Moms” screenplay about a “happily married mother of two who moves from small town America to the high class suburbs and is faced with confronting the cut throat world of competitive parenting.” None of the characters from the first flick will appear in the sequel. Scant other details are known about when production will begin or when it may hit theaters. Wiseman’s first novel, “Boys, Girls and Other Hazardous Materials,” which explores bullying among boys as well as girls in the digital age, was published earlier this year. T-Pain Thinks ‘American Idol’ Could Help Him Sell More Records

‘I don’t know if they let you use Auto-Tune, but if they do, I’m a shoo-in,’ he tells MTV News. By Jayson Rodriguez T-Pain Photo: MTV News T-Pain is diligently at work on his next album, but it seems like the Tampa, Florida, native is already thinking about the marketing plan for the project. ” Revolver is coming,” he told MTV News on Saturday, backstage at Chris Brown’s “Virginia Stand Up!” benefit concert . “We’re just trying to see. … It’s hard to sell records unless you’re Susan Boyle, I guess. Nobody is selling records. “I should compete on ‘American Idol’ the way they’re selling records when they come off of there,” T-Pain laughed. “I need to be a part of that competition. I don’t know if they let you use Auto-Tune, but if they do, I’m a shoo-in. I’m two shoes in! I’m a pair of shoes in.” The computer-aided crooner hasn’t released a project since he was embroiled in a pseudo-feud with Jay-Z after the rapper released his single “D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune).” Pain initially announced his follow-up to 2008’s Thr33 Ringz would be Revolver, although he flirted with the title UBER. But that project, which he said was going to be released last year, appears to have been shelved. Recently, T-Pain announced that plans for a joint album with Lil Wayne are now on hold following the rapper’s incarceration. He told MTV News in March that it didn’t make sense to rush the project while Wayne was preparing to begin his prison sentence. “The T-Wayne album, we’re actually gonna wait until he gets out,” Pain said at the time. “He has so much going on. He has Rebirth out right now. I don’t wanna interrupt that. We just gonna wait until he gets out to really get in on that. We recorded a bunch of songs. But, right now, it’s time for him and his personal sh–. We definitely got an album’s worth of material, but it’s only an album’s worth. It’s nothing to pick from. We just got an album. We can put out whatever we feel like and say, ‘Hey, this is T-Wayne’s album,’ or we can actually try to make it good. Like we’re actually trying to make an album and say, ‘This is the good T-Wayne album.’ Rather than just record 12 songs and say, ‘Here you go, mutha—-as! I know you want it. You gonna buy it anyway, just ’cause you think it’s good.’ ” Are you excited to hear T-Pain’s next album? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists T-Pain

Diddy Reveals Justin Timberlake Collaboration On New LP

Diddy-Dirty Money’s Last Train to Paris drops at midnight on June 28, right after BET Awards. By Jayson Rodriguez Sean”Diddy” Combs Photo: Getty Images The Train is almost at the station, and the closer it gets, the bigger the stars on board. Diddy announced Tuesday (May 18) during the 2010 BET Awards nominations press conference that Justin Timerlake will be on Diddy-Dirty-Money’s Last Train to Paris album, now slated to drop at midnight on June 28 following the star-studded show, he revealed for the first time. The former ‘NSYNC frontman joins confirmed guests Drake, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Swizz Beats, T.I. and Rick Ross on the project. Diddy didn’t disclose the name of the JT collaboration or describe the the song. Timbaland, however, is believed to be a contributor to the set and it may be safe to assume that the pair, who work together often, assisted Diddy with a tune for his project. The song would mark Diddy and Timberlake’s first time together on a record. Last week, Diddy visited the MTV News offices and said that Last Train to Paris, which originally was billed as an electro-sounding collection, is actually more R&B and soul based. The collection is thematic, he’s said, following a storyline of Diddy finding love and losing love as he ventures from London to Paris in an attempt to resurrect the faltering relationship. “One of the things we’re trying to represent is emotion,” Diddy told MTV News late last year about the album. “Not being afraid to show emotion on record. A lot of records out right now — no disrespect to them, but they’re all surface. It’s about what people have, or a dance. All our records are gonna be about love, feelings and emotion. Last Train to Paris is a love story and the most vulnerable album I’ve ever been involved in. It’s raw emotion — you get a feeling, a vibe.” Are you excited to hear Diddy and Justin Timberlake’s collaboration? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Diddy Justin Timberlake

N.O.R.E. Explains Unreleased Nas Cameo On The War Report 2

‘It was something in the vault, but we made it brand-new,’ Nore says of ‘With Me.’ By Shaheem Reid N.O.R.E. Photo: Gregg Delman Nas is with it, Capone-N-Noreaga are obviously with it, so all that’s left is for the public to hear it. Nas appears on C-N-N’s new LP, The War Report 2, via the song “With Me,” and, as Nore told us, he didn’t have to go to far for the guest spot. All he had to do was look in the vault. “I can’t remember [how long ago] we finished the song, because me and Nas have recorded so much material in the past,” Nore said. “We came across this [particular song and] made a new beat to it, switched a lot of things around. But it’s a wonderful thing. It’s not a recent verse from Nas. It was something in the vault, but we made it brand-new. If you don’t know it’s old, you won’t know. It’s the way a lot of people want to hear Nas.” Nore and Nas had a falling-out some years ago and really haven’t spoken much since then. N.O., however, said time has healed the wounds, and as you can hear on their album, he doesn’t have any problems with his fellow Queens native. “Me and [Nas’ brother] Jungle speak all the time,” Nore said. “Me and God’s Son haven’t spoke direct, but I been speakin’ to Jungle, so it’s looking like everything is gonna be everything in a minute. You never know when you might see brothers together. At the end of the day, Nas is pro-Queens like I’m pro-Queens, like Akinyele is pro-Queens, like Capone is pro-Queens. Everybody from Queens is pro-Queens. I feel great about [Nas] being a part of this project. That’s always gonna be our O.G., our older brother.” Besides Nas, Raekwon the Chef, the LOX and Busta Rhymes are among the guests on the July 13 album. The duo just shot a video for “Hood Pride” last week in New Jersey. It features guest appearances from Jim Jones and Joell Ortiz. “We’re redoing the movie ‘Life,’ ” Nore explained. “I’m Ray Gibson, which is [played by] Eddie Murphy in the movie, and ‘Pone is Claude Banks who is [played by] Martin Lawrence in the movie. We’re basically going in. Somebody is gonna try to take ‘Pone’s cornbread, and I’m gonna tell him not to let anyone take his cornbread. So we gonna go in. We got Rick Cordero directing, and we’re going to make a funny and great, entertaining video.” Are you hoping for a Noreaga and Nas truce? Let us know in the comments! Nas Says Working With Damian Marley Helped Him Through Personal Drama

‘I kept my head clear and focused on what we was doing,’ he says of recording Distant Relatives. By Shaheem Reid Nas Photo: Def Jam Nas shared a brotherly bond with Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley while recording their Distant Relatives LP , which was part of the reason he has been able to get through his much-publicized personal turmoil over the past year. In April of last year, Kelis filed for divorce from Nas . Since then, the two have been embroiled in a court battle over child support. Still, despite whatever drama the MC found himself, it didn’t blur his focus on his new project. “Personal life is what it is,” he said Monday (May 17). “Everybody goes through it. Working on this record got me through it. Rockin’ with D got me through it. His whole squad, his whole team, the way he rides, his whole culture. He didn’t have to push anything on me. He didn’t have to say anything particular. Just, I know this is my brother right here. Rockin’ with him, I kept my head clear and focused on what we was doing, so it was all good.” Their joint effort hits stores Tuesday. The two started a tour in support of the project, touching the stage in Chicago over the weekend, and they hit New York on Monday night. “People don’t know what to expect still,” Nas said of their live shows. “It’s a good thing the album is out. You can enjoy it, come through, anticipate certain songs. We’re doing an album for the first time, so we’re still getting the kinks out, but each show we do, it’s just growing.” Nas promised that the duo will get “heavily” into the album at their concerts. The guest stars on Distant Relatives include K’Naan, Josh Stone, Lil Wayne and Jr. Gong’s brother Stephen Marley. “He’s on two tracks, his vocals, which is on ‘Leaders’ and ‘In His Own Words,’ ” Damian said. “He also produced those two tracks and a track called ‘Patience’ on the album. For me, it’s a natural thing. All of my albums prior to this was produced by my brother and myself. That’s how we do music. It’s another natural step for us to do music on this album also.” “It’s mind-blowing, man,” Nas added about being in the lab with the Marley family. “Anytime you see family, you’re always taken aback and see the similarities between people. When you see Stephen, you see Julian — all the brothers. It’s an amazing thing. Sometimes I think, ‘What if their father was here to see all of them, how well they’re doing now?’ He’s gotta be proud — even now. It’s a beautiful thing. [My brother] Jungle definitely came through. We made it a big family affair; the Marleys and Joneses: We chillin’.” The current single from Distant Relatives is “As We Enter.” “Great fun shooting that music video,” Jr. Gong said. “It’s almost like, in some way, a version of the live show. We get up there, performing for the camera. It reminded me of the ‘Road to Zion’ video. The look of it.” Would you like to be a fly on the wall in the recording studio with Nas and the Marleys? ‘20,000 Leagues Under The Sea’ Films Being Prepped By Two Studios

David Fincher is in talks with Disney, while ‘Wanted’ helmer Timur Bekmambetov may direct for Fox. By Adam Rosenberg David Fincher Photo: Pascal Le Segretain/ Getty Images Two competing undersea voyages are being prepped for Jules Verne’s “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.” One belongs to Disney, with “The Social Network” director David Fincher in talks to helm and “Bourne Ultimatum” writer Scott Z. Burns pegged to develop the script. Elsewhere in Hollywood, Fox is prepping its own adventure with Captain Nemo and his submarine, the Nautilus; sibling filmmakers Ridley and Tony Scott will produce and Timur Bekmambetov (“Wanted”) is in talks to direct. The classic sci-fi/adventure novel was on the fast track for a McG-directed Disney adaptation until late last year, when the “Terminator Salvation” helmer departed after the project was put on hold indefinitely. The Hollywood Reporter ‘s Heat Vision blog reveals that Fincher approached the studio’s new production head, Sean Bailey, some weeks ago about the project. Fox’s project is further along, as Heat Vision blog also reports that Fincher and Burns have yet to finalize any deals. The Scotts are working with “Clash of the Titans” co-writer Scott Beacham now on developing a script. Bekmambetov isn’t confirmed, but given that Disney doesn’t yet have a script nailed down, Fincher will likely direct another film before he dives down “Under the Sea.” There are no concerns over the rights to adapting “20,000 Leagues” because it’s in the public domain; anyone can work with it. The tone of Disney’s take is unknown, but it is believed that the Fox version would shift from a period setting to a futuristic one. It’s worth noting that this bears a resemblance to another adaptation that Bekmambetov has spoken about, a complete with a supernaturally talented whale and psychic-powered whalers. Jay Sean Would ‘Love To Work With Rihanna’ On Next Album

‘Down’ singer is more than halfway done with the project, set to include Lil Wayne, Pitbull and more. By Akshay Bhansali, with reporting by Tim Kash Jay Sean Photo: Nuzhat Naoreen/ MTV News Sorry, Jay Sean fans. If you were expecting a new song to follow his first two Stateside singles “Down” and “Do You Remember,” you’ll be disappointed. While many a message board (and Sean himself, at one point) touted the ballad “War” as his third single, the pop/R&B singer has, in fact, moved on — not on to another gem from his U.S. debut, All or Nothing, but a brand-spankin’-new album. “We are basically straight on to the next one,” Sean told MTV News when we caught up with him at the New York studio of the Orange Factory, the production outfit behind the majority of All. “I was already halfway through the album by the time ‘Do You Remember’ was hitting radio. We listened to it, and we were like, ‘You know what? I want to hit them with something fresh right now, not something that is off [this] album. Let’s go now, while we are ahead of the game, while we are ahead of the curve.’ ” Last September, Jay Sean became the most successful male U.K. urban artist in U.S. chart history, with “Down” topping the Billboard Hot 100 . The singer is now well on his way to releasing a new album. “I’d say we are three-quarters done,” Sean said. “The majority of the album is [produced] by the Orange Factory, the same people who did ‘Down’ and ‘Do You Remember.’ I think this album is a little more grown and sexy. Not saying that I’ve grown older and sexier, but for me, this album is a natural progression. And that’s where I wanted to go and where it felt right. After dropping two singles, boasting the likes of Lil Wayne , Sean Paul and Lil Jon, the artist from Hounslow, England, already has a few more exciting partnerships in the can for this next project — and another he’s hoping will come to fruition. And Sean recently made his own guest feature on Mary J. Blige’s emotional “Each Tear.” “She’s actually gonna be on my album as well,” Sean said of Blige. “You’re gonna see Pitbull on the album. Wayne, of course. We are gonna get some of the Young Money characters involved. But really, I’d love to work with Rihanna. So I’m gonna see if I can come up with the right song for that.” Who would you like to see featured on Jay Sean’s next album? Tell us in the comments!
