Rick Ross Says ‘Super High’ Video Is ‘Like A Flashback Of ‘Easy Rider’ ‘

‘It’s gonna look like a mini-movie as opposed to just a music video,’ co-star Ne-Yo says of the F. Gary Gray-directed clip. By Shaheem Reid Stacy Dash and Rick Ross Photo: MTV News Rick Ross is sitting on top of the world — in his new video for “Super High,” Ross, along with his lady, straddles his motorcyle on a mountain top. “Shout-out to F. Gary Gray,” Ross said recently on the set of the clip. “That’s my favorite director throughout film. I met him … Diddy introduced me to him one night. When I completed the record, I flew out to L.A. and met with him. I played [the track] for him. I gotta shout him out big time. … But he video is actually like flashback of [the movie] ‘Easy Rider’ — a bunch of homies hoggin’ the highway. We run across a beautiful young lady which happens to be Stacie Dash , and a dude — he’s a d—– bag. I end up snatching her and spending the rest of the evening with her, the way a boss should.” “It’s basically Ross and his gang riding around doing what they do,” guest star Ne-Yo said of the clip. “This is my first time working with F. Gary Gray. So far, so good. He’s a movie director, so everything is gonna have that cinematic edge to it. It’s gonna look like a mini-movie as opposed to just a music video.” Sure enough, Gray choreographed a scene were Ross and his road dawgs surround the sports vehicle being driven by Dash’s original beau and, of course, Ross got a performance scene as well, let his swagger shine in his custom-made leather jacket. In a later scene, Ross and Ne-Yo sit at a table together in a bar filled with tough guys and sexy ladies. While on set, Ne-Yo did say that the song has nothing to do with indulging in narcotics. “It’s just about feeling good,” The Grammy Award-winning singer clarified. “Doing things that maybe regular people can’t do. You work hard so you get to play hard.” Ross explained that he was inspired to write the record while looking down at Central Park from Diddy’s penthouse in Manhattan. “The concept actually came from me and Diddy — we was running around New York City one night, went back to his penthouse and that’s where the actual term ‘super high’ comes from,” Ross offered. “It’s 5 o’clock in the morning. I’m just burning, I’m thinking. [Diddy] turned on ‘Purple Rain,’ Prince. A few homies were in there — D Roc, me and him reminiscing, talking about Biggie. After the conversation I just stopped watching the movie and walked to the huge window. And I was reflecting like, ‘Wow.’ It had me reflecting on how far I came as a artist and as a person. “When you trying to get better as an artist, a lot of times we coming from the streets. We’re flawed in a lot of ways. We trying to get better as people,” he explained. “I was reflecting on that, realizing how significant the title Teflon Don is, even though that was one of my first rap names and one of the first tattoos I got. I just came with the whole first verse looking out the view: ‘From my n—a Diddy view, I think I see his vision too/ ‘Purple Rain,’ over Central Park, chillin’ with my goons.’ I was just capturing them moments and putting it over beats.” Teflon Don is slated to drop on June 29 and Diddy, Kanye West and Jay-Z have all contributed to the project. ‘Robin Hood’ Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know

We take you inside Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe’s reinvention of the folk hero. By Eric Ditzian “Robin Hood” Photo: Universal Their collaborations have taken them across the globe and through the fabric of time, from ancient Rome to French wine country to the drug-filled streets of ’70s-era New York to the hidden world of government espionage. Back and forth, back and forth Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott have gone with “Gladiator,” “A Good Year,” “American Gangster” and “Body of Lies.” For their fifth movie together, they’re headed back in time again — way back to the 12th century. It’s in this time period — a moment during which England was undergoing often violent social, political and economic upheaval — that they choose to set “Robin Hood,” a sort of origin story of the folkloric champion of the common man. MTV News has been following this project from its origins as well, bringing you development updates, casting news, trailers, clips and interviews with the cast and crew. Now that the film is due in theaters on Friday (May 14), we bring you everything you need to know about “Robin Hood” with another edition of MTV News’ big-screen cheat sheet. From ‘Nottingham’ to the ‘Hood’ Back in summer 2007, Scott had plans for a film called “Nottingham” that would feature the iconic sheriff facing off against a Robin Hood cast as the bad guy. “L.A. Confidential” writer Brian Helgeland was tapped to write the screenplay. Producer Brian Grazer called it the ” ‘Gladiator’ version of Robin Hood” and cast Crowe as the sheriff. A year later, the project took a wacky turn, when Scott told MTV News that Crowe would be playing both the Sheriff of Nottingham and Robin Hood . But wait! Months later Grazer told us that Crowe would play a version of Robin who takes over the identity of Nottingham after he dies early in the film. But … but … wait! By February 2009, the project had shifted again. It was now called “Robin Hood” and would tell its story strictly from that title character’s point of view. Got it? Crowe is Robin and he faces off against Nottingham, just as the folklore tells us. Populating Sherwood Forest With the plot specifics locked down, Scott began to build the rest of his cast. Cate Blanchett signed on to play Robin’s love interest, Maid Marion. Mark Strong was cast as one of the king’s enforcers, William Hurt came onboard as a legendary knight named the 1st Earl of Pembroke, and Danny Huston became the nefarious King John. Filming kicked off in late March 2009, and by the end of the year, the first trailer popped up online. It was filled with plenty of creepily dark forests, an eerie soundtrack and a sneak peek at some truly badass action scenes. The scope of the movie was clearly enormous. A second trailer — showcasing more action and a heady dose of storytelling — dropped online in March. We also found out the film would open the 63rd Cannes Film Festival . Meet Your New Folk Hero Before Crowe and Scott took their film to the Mediterranean, we got a look at a slew of fresh clips: the King’s ill-advised taxation scheme , Robin’s introduction of his blushing new bride , a nighttime ambush in the forest , a peek into Robin’s childhood and one wicked horse-and-sword battle scene . The director and actor also sat down with MTV News to take us inside the process of creating their fresh take on the well-known Robin Hood story. “I just wouldn’t have done it if it were a conventional take,” Crowe told us . “There’s no need for anyone in the world to see that series of clich

Project Natal World Premiere E3 Event To Air On MTV

Gamers will get their first look at Xbox 360 device on June 15 at 3:30 p.m. ET. By Russ Frushtick Soccer player Tristan Bowen plays Project Natal at the Xbox Booth during E3 in Los Angeles on June 2, 2009 Photo: Michael Buckner/ WireImage E3 is always an important time for gamers, but the show is limited to members of the games industry, so everyone else is forced to experience the news second-hand. That’ll change this year, as MTV Networks will be airing Microsoft’s world premiere of Project Natal, giving viewers a glimpse at what the future holds for their Xbox 360s. Airing on Tuesday, June 15, the premiere will feature a performance by Cirque du Soleil and will demonstrate new features and games specifically for Project Natal. First shown at E3 2009, Project Natal is a new piece of hardware that attaches to the Xbox 360. Equipped with a camera, the device senses the location and position of players standing in front of it. This allows gamers to control the action on the screen simply by moving their bodies. Unlike the Wii or PlayStation’s upcoming Move motion controller, Project Natal doesn’t require participants to be holding anything while they play, which is good news considering all those unfortunate Wii-mote accidents a few years back. In the announcement, Microsoft Senior Vice President Don Mattrick was enthusiastic about the opportunity to air the event. “We look forward to making entertainment history again at E3 Expo 2010 and can’t think of a better partner than MTV Networks to exclusively share our news, experiences and Cirque du Soleil’s amazing creativity with an entirely new audience.” Before the MTV premiere, brother station Spike TV will be broadcasting Microsoft’s E3 media briefing live on Monday, June 14. Specific details and announcements are usually kept well under wraps until the show actually begins, but previous years have focused on new games and updates to the Xbox 360 platform. Last year’s media briefing was particularly eventful, as it featured an appearance by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, who were on hand to promote “The Beatles: Rock Band.” “The World Premiere Project Natal for Xbox 360” show will be airing commercial-free on MTV, June 15 at 3:30 p.m. ET, and then on Nick at Nite, mtvU, MTV Hits and Logo, at 9 p.m. ET that evening. Microsoft’s E3 media briefing will air live on Spike TV on Monday, June 14 at 1:30 p.m. ET. Both events can also be viewed live on GameTrailers.com .

‘Geek a Week’ Cartoonist Len Peralta Collects the World’s Greatest Geeks – An Urlesque Interview

Filed under: Art / Design , Exclusives When Len Peralta , a talented illustrator who has worked with web celebrities like Jonathan Coulton and Paul and Storm, was looking for a new artistic challenge, he asked a friend for advice. “Why don’t you do a Geek a Week ?” his friend asked. What’s a Geek a Week, though? Len decided that it’s a series of trading cards (and corresponding interviews) of notable geeks. He started the project on March 1st and it will eventually feature a year’s worth of weekly geeks. The art is all original work by Len and the stats and bios on the back are by Paul and Storm. The series already includes JoCo, nerd rapper MC Frontalot, Jay and Silent Bob director Kevin Smith and more. I chatted with Len about how the project is going and how he got to know some of the coolest geeks in the world. We started with the big question: how did Len go about getting all these notable geeks on board with his project? Everything comes back to Coulton. I drew visual responses to Coulton’s “Thing A Week” music project (where Coulton recorded a new piece of music for 52 weeks straight). During that process, I was introduced to Paul and Storm and they hired me to develop the art for their CD News to Us . Since then, we have become very good friends. One of the reasons I thought I had a fighting chance is because I had a pretty good base from which to start. I knew Coulton and Veronica Belmont and the MST3K guys, but after that I was sort of relying on my contacts to help create the ripple effect. Okay, that makes sense, but 52 people?! That’s a boatload of geeks! I had to ask Len how many he’s already lined up. Ha! I just did an assessment a few days ago. As it stands, I’m about midway through. I’ve got about 26 or so confirmed and I’m trying to keep slots open for some really big names. There are a lot of geeks to choose from and I expect there will be omissions, but that’s the beauty of it. How can I collect those elusive George Lucases or Steve Jobses? Steve’s been answering his email lately, so I told Len I thought he might have a shot at getting Apple’s head geek involved. I wrote to Steve. No answer yet. Maybe I’m in the “to do” pile. However, Len told me who we can expect to see in upcoming trading cards and podcasts in the meantime. People who you can expect to see coming up in the deck are Wil Wheaton, Grant Imahara (Great freaking interview with him. He actually said it was the Geekiest conversation he’s had in quite some time.) I’m also trying to grab geeks from all walks of geekdom, so you can expect some D&D geeks, some science geeks and hopefully more videogaming and music geeks. The people involved in this project are all fantastic, but the challenge itself is interesting too. Does Len have to do both the card and the interview before he can consider a week completed? Yes, in my crazy rules for this I had to interview them, which was my way of “collecting” them. The card is sort of the proof of that. It has to be more than just “yes, draw me!” That’s too easy. There has to be some meat to the challenge. Anyone can draw the people I’m drawing, but connecting with them is a totally different thing. So, Steve Jobs and George Lucas, if you’re reading this: connect with Len and get behind this awesome project. I want to see you on Geek a Week! And everyone else, head on over and give Geek a Week and Len Peralta’s other work a look. Share link:// Geek a Week link:// Len Peralta Continue reading

Jennifer Aniston, Paul Rudd Re-Team For ‘WanderLust’

The pair, who starred together in 1998’s ‘The Object of My Affection,’ will reunite for the Judd Apatow-produced comedy. By Jocelyn Vena Jennifer Aniston Photo: Andrew H. Walker/ Getty Images After working together in 1998’s “The Object of My Affection,” Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston will reunite onscreen for “WanderLust.” The film will be produced by Judd Apatow, and Rudd will also be onboard as writer and producer. David Wain, who worked with Rudd on “Role Models,” will direct the movie, which centers on a couple who take refuge at a commune after they lose all their money, according to Variety . Rudd will help with the script, which will be penned by Wain and Ken Marino. Apatow recently told MTV News about the project, saying, “I’m producing a movie that Paul Rudd’s in that’s shooting in the fall, which David Wain wrote with Ken Marino, and they’re going to announce that soon.” In other Aniston movie news, she will re-team with her “The Switch” co-star Jason Bateman for the movie “Horrible Bosses.” Also onboard for the film are Colin Farrell and Charlie Day. The film centers on “three friends who team up to murder their overbearing bosses with disastrous results.” Seth Gordon, who directed “Four Christmases,” will direct the movie. But that’s not all for the very busy Aniston. Next up, the actress, who appeared in “The Bounty Hunter” earlier this year and who is set to release the aforementioned “Switch” later this year, will stretch her singing muscles in the flick “Goree Girls.” “We’re still doing it, it’s going through a rewrite and it should be happening sometime next year,” Aniston told MTV News recently about the movie. Based on a true story, the film is about a group of 1940s female prison inmates who start a country-western band. “I’m still trying to figure out where in my schedule to find its little spot.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Lil Jon’s Revamped Crunk Rock Trades Rock For ‘Lifestyle’ Music

‘We live life to the fullest — that’s what crunk rock really means now,’ he tells MTV News. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Lil Jon Photo: MTV News Lil Jon once proclaimed “crunk ain’t dead,” and these days, he could easily rework that former mantra in support of his long-delayed Crunk Rock album . The long-in-the-works project finally has a release date set, June 8, and Jon is in full promo mode behind the project. The album, in the works for four years due to a feud with his former label, transformed over time from a rock-leaning effort into one that reflects his new life as a working DJ. “Initially, when I started work on it I was collaborating with a lot of rock producers and rock musicians,” he told MTV News. “And then, as time progressed and as I was going through stuff with the label and as I was DJing again, then I got the new deal and so on and so forth. The new energy started to come around me by being in the club. It started meaning we’re crunk all the time, we party like rock stars, we live life to the fullest — that’s what crunk rock really means now. “Because there’s so many different kinds of Lil Jons that’s on this album that it’s not just rock and roll,” he added. “You got some rock kind of collaborations, but you got some electro collaborations, you got crunk music, you got dance music, you got all kinds of stuff, Bali funk. We got so many different kinds of collaborations on the album that it changed really into a lifestyle. We live like this.” Crunk Rock features an array of producers, including David Guetta, Drumma Boy and Steve Aoki, whom Jon recently worked with on the DJ’s own project. Pitbull, R. Kelly, Mario, LMFAO and 3OH!3 are among the collaborators who chipped in to help Jon on the album. The producer said he took a step back from manning the boards on Crunk Rock to help him reset and recharge after his battle with TVT, whom he released a number of albums with before. But the beatsmith, who has scored hits for Usher (“Yeah!”) and E-40 in the past, said fans should expect to hear him on upcoming projects by Flo Rida and Pitbull, among others. Last week, Lil Jon premiered his latest video, “Outta Your Mind,” featuring LMFAO, the lead offering from Crunk Rock. Are you excited to hear new music from Lil Jon? Let us know in the comments! Eminem Says Recovery Will Not Have Skits

MC also tells Shade 45 about Recovery LP, collaborators. By Shaheem Reid Eminem Photo: Nigel Parry Eminem has said that when he opened up his planned album Relapse 2 to a variety of producers, he was inspired to not just change the direction of the LP, but rethink the project completely: He buried the Relapse sequel and started working on Recovery , which will be out on June 22. “I kinda went back to the lab on that whole concept,” Em told radio personality Angela Yee on her Shade 45 show “The Morning After,” on Thursday (April 29). “As I started getting to work with different producers and sh–, the very sound changed and I kinda turned the corner.” Em rattled off an impressive array of trackmasters that he secured for Recovery, including Dr. Dre, DJ Khalil, Boi-1da — who produced the album’s first single, “Not Afraid,” which debuted Thursday — and Havoc from Mobb Deep. “He sent me a couple of tracks,” Em, a huge Mobb Deep fan, said of Havoc. “They were both cool, but one of them was that sh– and I had to do something to it. I’m just happy I got to work with him.” Jim Jonsin (T.I., Lil Wayne) also worked on the LP. “He was open to ideas,” Jonsin told Mixtape Daily . “He was real respectful to my craft. He let me do what I do. He asked me ideas on some of the lyrics. We had ideas for lyric changes. Certain words may or may not work on radio. We talked about that. He had a setup outside of the room to do production, but I’d rather be in the room where he was at, and he was cool with that. And I knocked out a couple of joints in there while he was in there with me. He was pretty open and he let me do my thing. He did his thing. It was a pretty good experience. “We touched on something that I haven’t done anything like that before,” Jonsin added. “It’s unique in a way for myself. It’s a place I’ve been wanting to go, and I’m so happy he allowed it to go down. He played a huge part in the record. Without him on it, it’s not the same. I don’t wanna give up too much about what it is and what direction.” Slim Shady told Yee that Recovery is diverse and doesn’t have a uniform sound. “There’s a variety of different things, different moods and things like that on there,” he said of the LP. “There’s not just one overall sound. It’s a bunch of different sh–.” Another surprise Em dropped about the album: for the first time, he will not have any skits. The often-hilarious segments had become a hallmark of a Slim Shady’s albums. What do you think Eminem’s Recovery LP will be like? Let us know in the comments below! Related Artists Eminem
