Lil Wayne To Release Prison Memoir In November

‘Gone Till November’ will come out two years after Weezy’s release from Rikers Island. By Rob Markman Lil Wayne Photo: MTV News Lil Wayne has a story to tell. Well, Lil Wayne probably has a bunch of stories to tell, but this fall the multiplatinum rap superstar will release “Gone Till November,” his memoir based on the diaries he kept while he was locked up for eight months on Rikers Island in New York. The book, which will come out in November, two years after Weezy’s release from prison, is being described as an internal monologue, according to the Associated Press . It will be released through Grand Central Publishing, a division of Hachette Book Group. Weezy was freed from Rikers Island on November 4, 2010, after he served eight months of a year-long sentence for an attempted gun possession charge. Police had arrested the rapper in 2007 following his headlining performance at New York’s Beacon Theatre. Wayne eventually pleaded guilty to the charge and turned himself in to authorities in March of 2010. MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway caught up with Wayne in Miami at a welcome-home party just days after his prison release. When asked how his transition from prison was going, Weezy simply responded with a grin. “I forgot about yesterday,” he said after thanking his fans and family for their support. He hasn’t completely forgotten, however, now that Wayne, who has since toured the world and released his double-platinum Tha Carter IV, plans to reminisce a little. Flavor Flav To Release Memoir In March

‘Icon’ will cover rapper’s time in Public Enemy and on reality TV. By James Dinh Flavor Flav Photo: John Shearer/ Wire Image In keeping with the recent artist-to-author trend that’s seen everyone from Jay-Z to Justin Bieber penning books, Flavor Flav will release a memoir called “Icon” in March. Published by Farrah Gray Publishing, the book, which has been listed on Amazon.com, will be a 264-page account of everything Flav, from his early days in Public Enemy to his recent years as a VH1 reality-TV star. According to Amazon’s product description , the hip-hop icon will take readers “in vivid detail behind the scenes of his multi-faceted career.” Not only will Flav reveal the underlying tensions within Public Enemy and with Def Jam records, the hype man will also divulge details about his early struggles with addiction and his multiple visits to rehab and jail. But his memoir isn’t all pain and suffering as the 51-year-old star will also give glimpses into recent years, when he reinvented himself as a VH1 reality ringleader, spawning the hit shows “Flavor of Love” and “Strange Love,” alongside Brigitte Nielsen. Straddling the worlds of music and reality TV, Flav presents his take on both of them and describes how he has dealt with the pressure. On the cover of “Icon,” the rapper appears in a red suede jumpsuit with his signature accessory, a big clock hanging from his neck. Rocking matching sunglasses and an unusually stiff afro, Flav slouches underneath another clock chain attached to his bold name stamp. At press time, Flavor Flav’s publishing company had not yet responded to MTV News’ request for comment about the memoir. Are you excited for Flavor Flav’s memoir? Lydia Hearst to Portray Lindsay Lohan-Like Character in New Movie

Lydia Hearst has landed her dream role, assuming this aspiring actress has fantasized about drugs, denial, promiscuity and multiple court dates. In the upcoming movie Dogs in Pocketbooks , the publishing company heiress will portray “a bratty movie goddess in and out of rehab, in trouble with the law, and hounded by greedy agents, predatory paparazzi, off-the-wall stalkers and crazed media,” according to screenwriter Charles Casillo. Sound familiar? Casillo freely admits this role is “based on Lindsay Lohan.” What qualifies Hearst to take on Lindsay? Well… she’s posed naked for GQ , spent time as a fake lesbian , and dated a total loser . It’s like she’s been training her whole life for this part! As you might expect, the Lohans aren’t taking this news silently. Family lawyer Stephanie Ovadia says producers are “using [Lindsay’s] likeness without her being compensated. Not only that but they are advertising the fact that they are using her likeness.” Warns Dina Lohan: “Anyone bringing negativity will be dealt with accordingly.”

Kim Zolciak to Write Relationship Advice Book

Kim Zolciak once dated a man known as Big Poppa. She then had a fling with a female DJ named Tracy Young and is now having a baby with a 24-year old defensive lineman named Kroy Bierman. In other words: who else would you wanna take relationship advice from?!? We ask because Farrah Gray Publishing has confirmed that it’s signed a deal with Kim to pen a book about love and dating. Says founder Dr. Farrah Gray: “I’m thrilled to have Kim apart of my publishing house, her upcoming book is sure to wow fans everywhere. She is sassy, smart and sophisticated.” Up next, we assume the company will sign Amber Portwood for a memoir about responsible parenthood.

Democrats Imply a Publisher Promoting Republican Books Could Be Illegal

Over at stopnetregulation.org , Seton Motley reports that if the Democrats can’t ban books, they’ll try to ban book promotion. Democrats are furious that the conservative Threshhold imprint of Simon & Schuster (a corporate cousin of CBS) published a book by three House Republicans titled “Young Guns,” and included a promotional video:    That was too much free speech for the Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), which lawyered up and sent the publishing house an ominous letter intimating it may be in violation of several campaign finance laws – claiming the video was an in-kind contribution to Republicans. This despite the fact that… Corporations are permitted to make independent expenditures with no coordination with candidates… Or the simple possibility that Simon & Schuster has printed tens of thousands of copies and would now like to, you know, sell them. The DCCC’s attorneys suggest it’s improper for a corporation to host a video on its website that in turn directs viewers to Rep. Eric Cantor’s ERIC-PAC website that solicits contributions for Republican candidates for Congress. But consider this: if Simon & Schuster really wanted this book to fly off the shelves, or Republicans to be helped, wouldn’t they offer a much more prominent video presentation — on a CBS property like 60 Minutes? It wouldn’t be the first time. (They put Simon & Schuster-published  The Big Short by liberal author Michael Lewis in that promotional slot.) Seton continued: Never ones to let the facts get in the way of a good beating…. The DCCC is looking for an “assurance” that the book will be promoted legally. This is chilling language and a chilling move coming from the Party that is (for now still) in control of Congress – what with their ability to hold “investigative” hearings and haul anyone they wish before them for intimidation purposes disguised as interrogative ones.  Not to mention a Democrat President with the keys to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and what is quickly becoming the most ideological and partisan Justice Department in our nation’s history.  It doesn’t occur to Democrats and liberals that they too can write a book and get it published and promoted – in just the same manner as have the Republicans?  You know, meet free speech with free speech. Apparently not.  Instead they seek to drop the censorship hammer.  Again.

‘American Idol’ Winner Lee DeWyze’s Debut Due November 16

‘I’m really proud of what I’ve done so far,’ he tells MTV News of yet-untitled album. By By Gil Kaufman, with additional reporting by James Lacsina Lee DeWyze Photo: MTV News The major-label debut from season-nine “American Idol” winner Lee DeWyze will be released November 16. So far, that’s about all we know about the yet-untitled CD from the suburban Chicago singer/songwriter, who beat out dreadlocked soul mama Crystal Bowersox for this season’s crown thanks to an all-American story about his rise from humble paint-store clerk to household name. The soft-spoken DeWyze, 24, has been writing and recording songs for the album while logging miles on this summer’s American Idols Live! Tour and said in a statement accompanying the announcement of the release date that he’s been “very fortunate” to record with some amazing songwriters for the disc. “I can’t wait for everyone to hear my debut album.” Technically, it’s his third album , but it’s his major-label debut, since he released two previous efforts on the small Chicago label WuLi Records: 2009’s Slumberland and 2007’s So I’m Told. On those discs, he honed the everyman, sensitive growl that helped him win “Idol,” where his slow and steady rise and humble demeanor catapulted him past season-long favorite Bowersox. MTV News recently caught up with DeWyze at the Los Angeles stop of the “Idol” tour and he spilled a bit of detail on the songs he’s been working on and the sound fans can expect to hear. “I’ve written on every song. … I’m more or less looking forward to showing everybody what I do outside of the show and outside of this. To be able to be my own artist and do my own thing, I’m really looking forward to.” He said he couldn’t talk about which artists and songwriters he’s working with but hinted that they were ones he’s listened to and is a fan of. “What’s really most important about the album for me is keeping it true to what I want to do and the kind of music I like to make and having it be real, not just some words thrown together,” he said. “I like to write about love and relationships and emotions and feeling … being down and up. I like writing about things that everybody experiences and to be able to put that into my music … it’s going to be fun.” As if the grueling “Idol” tour isn’t hard enough, DeWyze said he’s flying in and out of New York, Los Angeles and Nashville on his days off to write and record the songs. “I have a lot of say in it,” he said of crafting the sound and mood of the disc. “I have a lot more say than people would think. It’s going to be really good. I’m really proud of what I’ve done so far.” Though there’s no official title yet, DeWyze said he has a few strong contenders. “These are things I dreamt about doing years ago,” he said of working on a major-label album. “To be able to actually do it now is pretty cool.” There has been no word yet on the release date of Bowersox’s album, though the runner-up’s disc has typically hit stores a few weeks after the winner’s effort.
